About the author

Kelley Armstrong

292 books33.6k followers
Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.

Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far too many pets.

We Are All Monsters Here 4 stars
Standalone story, first published in Seize the Night: New Tales of Vampiric Terror (see my review there)

The Orange Cat 4.5 stars
Cainsville story, previously published in Portents (see my review there)

Angels & Absinthe 4 stars
Standalone story, first published in Hark! the Herald Angels Scream (see my review there)

One Last Story 4 stars
Standalone story, new to this collection. The horror in this is the real world horror of the pandemic, but also the creepiness of the setting: a cabin in the woods, where an octogenarian author, who lost her husband to the pandemic, decides to retreat to write "one last story". I really enjoyed this one. I liked the main character and I liked the portrayal of how with writing - as with life - things don't always go as planned.

This was another great collection of short stories from Armstrong, I'll be keeping an eye out for volume three! I love how each story is so different. The two stand out ones for me were the first and the last. All of the stories were so imaginative and different from what you expect.

Quick short stories set in darkness

A set of short stories that are quick to read and are full dark tales. Enjoyable, emotional at times and satisfying. Looking forward to the next set.
