It's an extraordinary oral history - in some respects, very difficult to read because she does not have the skill to help the reader find their way through people and places but her 'felt experience' and the domestic and personal details make it fascinating. Her voice comes through very strongly and you imagine she is speaking it, which is both a huge plus and minus as it tends to jump around and make some of it very difficult to follow. But well worth the effort.
