Heart-breaking, emotional and left me a stunned mullet.
TEQUILA, SLAMMED was such a beautiful and emotional, angsty read that when I finished it, I felt like my heart had taken some heavy hits and given a swift kick for good measure from Author Deborah Carter. It's novella length, but there was a lot happening and no words were wasted in the telling of Garret and Addison's heart-breaking story.
Told in my favourite first person, dual POV, Addison and Garret had a soul-deep love that he'd not appreciated until it was lost with no hope of redemption. He'd lived as a reclusive and broken man with no idea about how life had played out for Addison and his estranged brother. I felt it was so tragic and it hurt even more as he came to terms with Addy's return to the Island where the brothers had grown up.
I also loved the way in which Ms Carter told their story. The prologue opened with the traumatic event that had caused the loss of Addison's baby and her memory. The layout was present tense with memories told in italics, and even as she was left with grief and nightmares, she'd not recovered and moved on in any way. I felt a heavy weight upon me as I read her chapters. So many times I felt I could've appeared in the author’s inbox with some devastated unhappy looking emoji’s.
I couldn't believe the wringer Ms Carter put them through! I was gutted, deader than a Dodo even, and ended up in tears. My mind was full of what-ifs. These are the second-chance romance resolutions that I do love, but still leave me reeling. What-if her husband had continued his selfish path and kept his own council on his way out? What-if she'd not got there in time? What-if?
And let me just say here, that Karma got the best of Nate-freaking-Alexander, and it got him good. I was just sorry it took so long, and that in itself was another what-if. What-if he hadn't been on his way below deck so to speak? (well, he went there in MY mind anyway! 😈) Would he have copped to the secret???
I love novellas, especially those written by the authors I love because I know I'm getting the full reading experience but with fewer words, and a quicker gratifying feeling of an HEA achieved. Wow, TEQUILA SLAMMED delivered all that and more. Even with the best resolution that could be played out, I felt like I'd run the gauntlet and those dammable what-ifs still plagued me.
Truly, if you're after a quick and emotional read that packs the punches of a full-sized book, check out TEQUILA, SLAMMED. I can't stop bleating about how much I loved it. 🍸💕🌞✦

What the hell!? I didn't see that twist coming! I've never known to hate a character so much, what a nasty vindictive piece of work (I won't say he/she so as not to give it away!). I'm not sure I would ever forgive them. Deb loves her descriptive narrative and lashings of alcohol to boot (I mean the characters!). The storyline centres around two main characters, Addison and the lustful Garrett. If you love your doses of romance and tequila, you will love this book. Thanks for the fun read Deb.

A fantastic story that kept me enthralled the whole way through. Beautifully written, so descriptive, and true to Deborah Carter's other works, there is a nice wee twist in the story.
