Elle is a little girl who loves one toy in particular: The Whale. When Elle's father comes home from being on the sea as a sailor, he tells her stories about The Big Blue Whale. Each night, Elle goes on an exciting journey in her dream where she really hopes to see her father.
The illustrations in the book really caught my eye. I think this is a fun read for children because it gives us insight into a little girl and her favourite toy (the whale). Not only that, but it also highlights the great bond between father and daughter. The little girl dreaming about the whale might be symbolic of her pursuing her dreams within the comfort, care and safety of a familial bond. It is a heart-warming book that definitely made me feel calm and happy when I read it. I am sure children will enjoy the simple language, illustrations and the end message within the book. When she dozes off and dreams about her sea journey, it is clear that her dreams are inspired by her father's stories of the sea as a fisherman. It shows how strongly children are influenced by their parents and how impactful the story-telling bond can be. I would highly recommend this book to children and parents, so they may experience the same fascination of exploring the sea.
Angela Chirila’s My Friend is a Whale is a really cute story of a little girl that loves whales. We all have a favorite animal from childhood (mine being dogs ,always!) but the reason for Elle’s favorite animal being a whale is sweet, and the illustrations match the story wonderfully. I love how Chirila incorporated the idolization and fascination we have with our parents when we are young, and that these follow Elle into her dreams. Elle’s father is a fisherman that regales his daughter with stories of a whale he encounters when out to see. With this kind of storytelling, he really seems like the coolest dad in the world. This is a very lovely children’s book!
A lovely and tender bedtime story If you´re looking for a lovely and educating bedtime story, this is the best option. “My friend is a whale” not only is a tender book but it's also a story of friendship, imagination and love. This enchanted reading was written by Angela Chirita. The illustrations are so expressive that they depict very well the character´s enthusiasm about her journey. While I was reading it to my niece, I could notice her wonder about the plot and her willingness to dream like the character dreams. In a nutshell, it is a well-written story that highlights the importance of dreams and friendship. I would thoroughly recommend it to teachers and parents who enjoy telling wonderful tales to children.
My Friend is a Whale is one of the best children’s books I have had the chance to read. The way it is written is absolutely different from all other books because it is not a typical kid’s book, but it is one that emphasizes the bond fathers have with their kids. The characters are fleshed out well and they give us readers a chance to really connect and understand them and their ways of looking at things. Delightful descriptions of the whale, which is another important protagonist in this story, bring the animal to life. Subtly, the author educates young readers on the importance of animals in our lives and gives us a feeling of tenderness that lingers even after finishing reading this story. A sweet one!
As a mom of a three-year-old girl, I am always looking out for great books to share together at bed time. I believe that reading should be a part of any children's life, as it helps them develop their imagination and intelligence. My Friend Is A Whale, written by amazing author Angela Chirila, was a wonder find. The main character of this story, named Elle, is a very endearing little girl who loves to play with her toy whale.
We had so much fun reading this great story! We even pretended we were whales swimming in the ocean. I love this book so much I am planning to get one as a Christmas gift for every one of my nephews.
It is really usual that children become fans of dinosaurs, wild animals or sea creatures. Also, there are many hardworking parents that spend a lot of time in their jobs, away from their beloved ones. Author Angela Chirila mashed up both realities in “My Friend Is A Whale”, to give birth the beautiful short story of Elle. She is little girl who loves her whale toy, which every night accompanies her in her underwater dreams. This little and lovely main character brings her sailor father´s stories to her imagination, as she misses him so much. This book is simply and beautifully written, and at the same time, adorably illustrated. Little ones will surely enjoy it!
I received a copy of this book via a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review, and I am very sorry I didn't like it. I wanted to like it! The cover looked so promising. But the content didn't live up to my expectations. The rhymes are shaky at best, it's too easy to stumble for a young reader; the rhythm is inconsistent. But what upset me most of all were illustrations. They are bright and pretty, but I noticed they were also inconsistent in the level of detail, and not between pages, but between different objects in the same picture. And then I found Nemo. Literally, Nemo, with a mangled fin and all. Copy pasted into the book, several times.
MY FRIEND IS A WHALE PICTURE BOOK AUTHOR-Angela Chirila Kindle
A delightful story of 6-10 words in each sentence about a little girl named Ella. She has a lot of toys, but her favorite is the blue whale. Her father returns from his travels as a sailor and brings with him tales of the whale. At night, Ella dreams of the whale and the other fish in the sea.
A story about a girl, her stuffed whale, and how she keeps feeling connected to her dad while he's away working on a ship. It is a very sweet story. I won it from Goodreads' First Reads.
Ella is a little girl who loves to play with her toys but her favorite is a stuffed whale. Her father works on a boat and when he comes home tells fabulous stories of the whale he sees. These stories lull her into a sleep with vivid dreams of fish in the sea, and you guessed it, a whale.
This is a very cute story with vivid and bright pictures, perfect for kids of alk ages from 1 to 99!!
