Some chapters of this book really spoke to me, whereas others didn't as much. I read this book before bed each night, and I think I was too sleepy to fully appreciate it so want to read it again during the day! Each chapter contains a reflection written to the reader from the point of view of Jesus, several short scripture verses, a reflection, prayer, and blessing.
I cannot encourage you enough to pick up this book- and a few extra copies for gifts! This is an awesome 40-Day Devotional with invocation, scripture, reflection, and prayer. Short daily read easing your mind of all the stuff it fills with. Relatable content for our lives today. Although I am a St Martin’s Press Winner of Kindle edition, I will be purchasing the book for myself as well as a few more for sticking stuffers & gifts.
While I am still reading this book, I have learned so much about myself AND my relation with Jesus. I am planning on getting copies for my family and friends. Now I have finished this book and it becomes Required Reading. And the rest of what I said in the first sentence becomes even greater now that I have finished this book.
A daily explanation and application of God’s amazing and glorious grace! I plan on reading this devotion each day for the remainder of my life on earth!
Excellent way to start the day. This book helped surround me with the presence of God in the early mornings and at night. Food for my heart and soul. Thanks for a great journey.
Every year I search for a resource of special devotional reflection during the Lenten season. I found a great volume this year. This book contains 40 daily reflections for deeper spiritual reflection upon the unwavering presence and availability of God's love. While 40 days fits nicely for the Lenten season, this book could be an invaluable resource any time of the year. Paul Bane (founder of the online Mindful Christianity page) ad Matt Litton (frequent national author for major religious periodicals) create a pattern each day - a reflection as if spoken by God - a few brief Scripture passages which tie to the theme - a reflection by the authors - a prayer - and a closing blessing. The 40 days are split into 4 sections or "seasons": I am always waiting - I am the Great Physician - I am the Way - and I am the Promise. Not too long, and not too pithy, these daily readings are just right for setting the tone for the day. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to develop a deeper awareness of God's presence each and every day, and in each and every situation, of life.
This is a great devotional and supplement to Bible reading. I like how the initial part of each chapter is in second person, making it it feel personalized to me. Then the scripture provides the support and verses for memorization. May we never forget that Christ resides in us, and that should bring us great joy and peace.
4.5 stars Very insightful meditations with supporting biblical verses, prayers, and a blessing. Really peaceful and calming to read. Will probably read again in a couple of months to remind me of all the little/big things I forget.
I received a complimentary copy from a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for my honest review.
I received this book as a birthday gift, and that’s exactly what it’s been. A gift. Each chapter seemed to be exactly what I needed to hear that day. This is the type of book I’ll probably read through more than once.
Loved this real and touching devotional! Felt like the Lord was speaking to me everyday. It was over to fast. Going to re-read now. Bought I paper copy for a friend who just lost her husband and Father. I know it will give her comfort.
I rarely write reviews. This book was exactly what I needed. I was incredibly frustrated with the hateful and political face of Christianity today. I found myself saying " But that's not Jesus. He never said that." I needed to spend time on what he said. This book helped me focus on Christ and what I am called to do. Spoiler ...it's to love him and others. Now I will read this again. Well done. As long as I am focusing on Christ and love ,even with the ' least of these'....then I can't be manipulated ,nor can I be hateful.

Deep truths expressed in easily understood narrative. Scripture verses that reinforce what the authors suggest Jesus is saying to us. A great resource to use to prepare for Easter, but really any time.
I very much enjoyed this daily devotional. It was for 40 days, which is very biblical. It was thoughtfully arranged and beautifully written, with excellent and appropriate biblical verses. Gave it 5 stars.
Based on section of Psalms 46:10, this 40 days devotional gets right to the point of God’s character and focuses on His amazing love for us, to be the master of our life, and that’s because He’s the only reliable source of our peace and well being. The daily readings are written in the voice of Jesus, a la Sarah Young’s “ Jesus Calling “, and closes with a prayer and a benediction. It’s an important addition to anyone’s morning worship, and is effective enough as a stand alone devotional.
This is the best devotional I have ever used. It is the only one I've actually finished and I've struggled to find one that comes close to comparing to this.
Perfect timing and just what I needed at this point in life! I related to so much and this has helped me through some tough days recently. I wish it was longer than 40 days!
