I’ve always seen my aunt Charity as beautiful.

As her niece, I’ve had the pleasure of growing up knowing the beautiful woman she is, and never being disturbed by her scars. It’s impossible for me to look at a picture of her and see her for only her oddities, as a stranger might.

When I look at her, I see the wonderful aunt, sister, and woman of faith she is. I see her independence, her creativity, and her humility that have inspired me for so long—even though she lives states away. I remember her sympathy and compassion for me as the oldest in my large family, and her offer that I reach out to her if it’s ever too hard. She was an eldest child too.

In fact, I think it may have been the first time I saw a picture of her without her scars when I was reading her book. And the way my little niece brain works, I view her as being more beautiful now, scars and all.

When she was twenty-five, her doctor said that the biggest thing that stands out about her is her faith. I 100% agree.

It is an absolute delight to invite others to read the story of my beautiful aunt. To take up the journey of a girl who was faced with hardship too big for her, but not too big for her God. Renew your trust in the Creator who has stood by the side of so many others as they have faced tragedy. And look ahead to when He will make all things new again.

Reading what she went through and her journey to recovery was an experience for me. I had always heard the shorter version. The shorter version didn’t skip the part where she looked death in the eye yet lived on—but it missed just how long and hard the road was to Aunt Charity becoming the wonderful person I admire today.

I haven’t experienced tragedy the same way the older people in my life have. But seeing Aunt Charity face tragedy in her book gave me a more full understanding of life. I couldn’t get enough of it—I flew through the book in less than two days. And it fills me with excitement to see it go now to others.

I can’t wait to see how this book touches other lives. How it sparks hope in those who have seen tragedy, and how it brings a new understanding to those who haven’t.

Okay, just wow. I said yes to advance reading this on a whim -- I probably shouldn't have, things have just been crazy. But I'm SO GLAD I did. This book and Charity Freeland's testimony are powerful and beautiful.

This was convicting and encouraging in the best way. I honestly think every single person would benefit from reading this. But especially those who are going through suffering.

Charity Freeland shares with honesty, hope, wisdom, and Biblical soundness. It felt like every time I opened the book to read, the chapter spoke directly to something going on in my life that day/week.

Charity Freeland has hit a “home run” with Life Beyond the Scars. As a lifelong educator, I am always looking for books that will inspire, educate, and motivate me. Life Beyond the Scars exceeded my expectations.

Charity Freeland grabs your attention with her terrifying story of surviving an awful crash. The reader then takes a journey, with Charity, through her recovery struggles. When most people would give up or blame God for their adversity, Charity not only praises God, but shares with all of us the wonderful Goodness of God as well as her commitment to overcoming adversity and being an example for others.

As a reader, this book will inspire you to live a better life, filled with happiness, hope, and passion. With every chapter you will be educated through practical strategies that will help you develop a life full of hope, grace, and passion and you will be motivated to develop a closer relationship with God, your family, and friends. Ultimately, Charity Freeland has taken hope and passed it on to others through this book.

I give Life Beyond the Scars my highest recommendation. You will find that you will re-read this book, many times, as your life will be positively affected.

Through the details of the tragic accident that she suffered when she was 17, Charity Freeland pens a story of perseverance and fortitude. She chronicles how the horrific burn injuries she suffered as a result of the accident permanently altered her physical appearance as well as the internal impact that it had on her. Charity details the number of surgeries that she had in an attempt to regain some sense of normalcy and the scars that were a results of many of those operations. She is able to describe to us how she overcame her external scars while still struggling with the scars on the inside. During her journey she is brought to a new understanding of her faith which transforms her personal relationship with Christ. It is through this relationship that Charity draws her identity and not from the person starring back at her in the mirror.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is struggling with their faith, suffering from a distorted and disenchanted view of them self or anyone that needs to have their humbleness realigned.

This book is an absolute MUST read! The book is inspiring, spiritual, and much more.

Charity tells her story with an horrific accident, the healing process, her path with Christ, her family and friends. She was able to take such a horrible life change and explain her walk with Christ along with healing in an inspiration way.

I’m not someone who picks up a book in my free time, but this book was amazing and I couldn’t put it down. Not only does Charity explain her story and walk with Christ but it also makes you sit back and think about your journey with Christ. I loved the way she wrote the story, put her thoughts in bullet points, and I adored the Bible verses.

I would recommend this book to everyone and anyone regardless of what path your on in life, religion and or beliefs. This book is a true inspiration and will open your eyes in a beautiful miraculous way!
