Addison Arrowdell writes spicy adult romance that has heat with heart. She believes that even the darkest story should have laugh out loud moments and loves writing witty dialogue.
If I'm traveling across country, alone, the last thing I'm doing is inviting a complete stranger to, not only share my hotel room, but also, to join me on my drive. I'm definitely not going to invite another stranger in another strange town to join me and my other stranger/friend in our hotel room. And I'm definitely not going to stop and pick up a third stranger walking along the road.
Every time she picked up a new person and invited them on her road trip, I rolled my eyes. I guess I couldn't' just suspend reality enough to buy into this story.
The writing is fine, the story just wasn't for me.
Also, the is M/M heavy, so if you aren't into that or don't care for it, I would just skip this book. I don't have an issue with it... well not really. I don't like it when, in RH, the h isn't the center and this book is less of a RH and more of a bunch of people in a relationship with each other... the h could disappear and they'd all still be together.
I'm not gonna rant and be all 'negative Nancy' about this book because it really isn't that bad if you can get over the fact that a single woman meets a bunch of strange men and lets them tag along with her on a drive across the country.
I would like to thank Addison Arrowdell for the gifted Copy. I was not compensated for this review and all opinions are my own.
Wow.....Let me rephrase WOW! This book was not what I expected. I knew that it was spicy and I knew that it was a RH but what I did not expect was the In depth feelings I would have while reading. The emotions and character development was off the charts good and I loved every second of this story. The book follows Hailee who is in a toxic relationship. She decides to leave her boyfriend and head to Vegas to stay with her sister. Along the way Hailee meets 3 incredible men who help her with unresolved feelings and insecurities that have plagued her. The men are also helped by Hailee and together form a very cohesive family. Now Addison has placed trigger and content warnings at the beginning of the book. If any of the items are issues for you, please take heed before reading. This book is very spicy but does so in such a way that it is beautiful at the same time. I absolutely fell in love with this story. If you love contemporary romance...with spice, you will fall in love like I did. I give this book 5 very well deserved stars.!
This was my first book by Addison, and I wasn't disappointed. I found Road Trip to be a unique fun concept of bringing the group together. RT is a fast burn (HOT!), contemporary story of one woman's journey away from her old life, gathering her new life on the way. Its poly rather than RH, as there are MM scenes separate from the group. Amidst all the hot and steamy scenes (you don't have to wait long- hit the first only only 12% into the book) you meet some lovely characters, who learn a lot about communication, redemption, self discovery and trust. You get different points of view per chapter. Sometimes I can find this a bit distracting, for if I leave in the middle of a chapter to go do something and come back, I forget whose head I'm in. However, I like to know what's going on in the different characters heads- we see a lot of the back stories there. Considering I didn't really put this one down, I didn't run into that problem of forgetting whose head I was in! ha! What's neat is this group are strangers that turn into so much more. Yes, its insta-love and connection- yes its unrealistic- but that's why we read the book- we want the warm fuzzies. Don't get me wrong, there's some tension there as well- just a little. The ex (s) are d*cks. And I'm glad they didn't take up too much of the book. I have to say, I wanted to know more about the characters- as I was reading, I kept watching the % of the book tick into the 90s and I was like- that can't be all..... I mean, it has to end somewhere- a road trip can't go on forever. She did give us an epilogue, so I did have some closure of what happened to them. All in all, I'd probably give it like 4.8 stars, but round that up to 5 for here. So buckle up, you're in for a fun ride!
HOT HOT HOT This is the reverse harem I needed. Who wouldn't want to go on a journey of self discovery and find three gorgeous men along the way? Fast burn, super hot and with generous doses of m/m too, Road Trip follows Hailee as she escapes an emotionally abusive relationship by running away to her sister in Vegas. Along the way she meets Carter, Linc and Jax who have their own share of issues they're dealing with. Together, they have just what they need to start to heal. Just try and choose a favourite... I dare you! ;)
This book is a good read with some triggers that hopefully you can get through it is worth it to stick with it until the end. The group of young people (all in their twenties) seem to on a journey of self discovery, each on their own paths but needing each other to come to some very strong and real understandings both of themselves and each other. As unconventional as this book seems it truly does work. I am trying hard not to give spoilers but it is hard because the way Hailee, Jax, Linc and Carter come together even with the rough batches works. There is a Happily Ever After and once you read this book you will feel that they all deserve it. I don’t know who I am in love with more when it comes to the 3 guys but Hailee is one lucky women. Strength in numbers and in honesty is what this book is all about. Someone once said that the truth will set you free and karma is a bit**…well this book has this in spades on both counts. Read the book to find out what happens at the end of the road trip…you won’t be disappointed. It is a true feel good at the end story of 4 willing and consenting young adults.
This was the first book I had read by Addison, but boy oh boy will I be reading more! Road Trip far exceeded my expectations and was such a refreshing take on the RH genre. This is a fast burn, insta-love contemporary story of a woman who is running from her toxic old life and into a healthy new life with three of the hottest men she could ever want. There are some M/M scenes as well as M/F and M/M/M/F. The spicy scenes were HOT! Throughout the book you will get to enjoy the POV of all four characters, which allows for insight on their feelings and thoughts about the new group dynamic they have found themselves in. Fair warning, there are triggers within the book please read them before starting the book so as to not be surprised! I enjoyed this story and will definitely be recommending to others ASAP! I received an ARC of the story for an honest review.
the first 50 pages were a little too insta-lovey for me, but I definitely appreciated the added tension from one of the guys later on (who coincidentally became my favorite! sarcastic assholes to the front of the line, please).
I kind of wish it was solely a character-driven story instead of trying to force an actual plot. the plot wasn't completely terrible or anything, but it just felt unnecessary overall.
the 🌶 though?! ON POINT. I would also categorize it as more of a poly relationship than RH, but that's my jam so it only added points (a lot of points, btw) for me.
Wow. I laughed, I cried, I raged. Kudos on the correct uses of the words CUM and COME. Thank you! So many authors royally screw that one up! This book would have been an easy five star if not for the spelling fails and the fact that we don't get any closer about Brent and andrew. Did they just get away with it all? And her sister... WAS she doing what she was accused of? Anyway, this was an AWESOME story!
Well, this was one hot book! This is my first from this author (didn’t know she existed till she commented about her book in a RH book group on Facebook) and it won’t be the last I read from her. The only thing it lacked was a scene with Carter and Jax, and even with the epilogue we didn’t get an “I love you” even though you know they did love each other in that epilogue. But the main one is that scene I wanted with them. Other than that, it was a great RH read.
Okay this is how you write a RH! Like the chemistry between the group was so real and made sense! It was a bit of insta-love which can be hit or miss. But I think the way it’s written it just makes sense Now the steam in this book is off the charts like whew so spicy y’all! Definitely don’t read in public ;) I loved the way it ended! Check triggers as the book does dig into abusive relationships
This is an amazing book. I love how the story unfolds, and it has insta love feels. Definitely a feel good story about what happens when you finally start living life for your self. I like how each character has a pretty different past and use that to connect to each other. I couldn’t put it down. Addison did an amazing job at capturing my attention and dragging me down the rabbit hole with this story.
And the SPICE 🥵🥵🥵 this is one of the hottest books, the one on one is fire, but the everyone has fun is volcanic.
Holy smokes!!! Excuse my language but I had to go take care of lady buisness before writing this review! Hailee, Carter, Linc and Jax are so hot together and alone. Addison wrote this story flawlessly!!! The way these four got together was totally unconventional but their chemistry from the beginning was on FIRE! My lady bits tingled a little to much while reading this. I want more though!
In this book we see four different people connect on a deep level. Every one of the MC is damaged in some way – some escaped abusive relationships, some doubt their self-worth and some are trying to find people who will see them for them and not for their status/position.
They slowly start to heal each other, but it’s a slow process with a few setbacks.
There is a lot of smut and I usually don’t mind at all, but here I would like to see more of their story, more of them dealing with the secrets and half-truths/lies they are telling each other. It was pretty fast paced and I was a bit disappointed that the book ended so suddenly and the epilogue was six years in the future. Since there had to be the time jump I would love to see more of it. Like two years later... Four years later… etc.
Saying that I liked how the book was written, how there was said the characters are strong, because they were able to leave an abusive relationship and that it wasn’t their fault they stayed in it so long. I also loved that not only FMC was in this kind of relationship but one of the MCs as well. In books we usually see only women escaping abusive relationships, but I’m sure it happens to men as well.
Since there is also MM, I liked that the author pointed to the fact that even though it's the 21st century, people still have problems with same gender couplings.
Woooooo this book was spicy and brilliant! I loved the dynamic between a the characters and the chemistry was ON FIRE! While the spice is a lot, the story is just as impressive. The stories these characters bring separately and then together weaves a tale of belonging, found family/lovers, and being your authentic selves. Beautifully written.
Trigger warnings for: emotional and mental abuse, same sex couplings, graphic sexual content.
I really loved this! Kudos to the author for managing to strike a nice balance between all of the guys and giving them room to come to life and be their own individuals. The four of them made a really nice group and I loved their interactions (does have MM).
Definitely strong on the hurt/comfort vibes as they all have their own things to deal with, but it’s still relatively mild and I wouldn’t consider this a dark romance by any means. Does mention/allude to past SA though and there’s a brief scene about homophobia.
My main critique is just the ending…I’ll try not to spoil it but Hailee really should have been more involved in how it all went down I would have liked for both her and Carter to have had more agency in how it ended. All of the guys had some nice character growth but Hailee definitely felt pretty stagnant. Involving her at the end would have helped a lot.
Overall though, a pretty sweet romance with great characters and a touch of plot.
I enjoyed reading this book and found it a nice, fairly low angst, easy read. Hailee is escaping an abusive ex and driving to Las Vegas to stay with her sister. As she is driving anyway, she decides to make it a road trip and see some sights. On the way she meets three men who join her on her trip, Carter, Linc and Jax. I liked how the story developed and how you learnt a little more about each person as they became closer. There could be some triggers for some people so make sure you read the warnings if you aren’t. There is also a lot of MM content so if that isn’t for you then you might not like this one. On the whole I found it an enjoyable read and would read more from this author.
Ok but wow. I’ve it in one sitting, I began this book knowing it was a rh where everyone was involved with each other but it was so much more. 4 broken people that found and completed each other, the story was so heartwarming, the ménage was so well done ! It was really spicy but also so cute !! Loved it !!
This book completely blew away all my expectations- it’s completely mesmerising. The storyline just pulls you in, the detail and emotion have you not being able to put it down. Then add in the hot men, threesomes, foursomes, mm and the rest - this was steamy AF. It pulls at your heart strings, especially the scenes in Phoenix. The secrets and little twists were perfect. Loved the ending, oh so good.
I won this from the author in a Facebook Giveaway at the end of last year....slowly working through my physical TBR shelf.
This is a reverse harem road trip, all characters are trying to escape their pasts, and looking to start over somewhere new. Their connections are instant and intense. This might just be me but its reminecent of Dorothy picking up scarecrow, tin man & lion but the Emerald City is Vegas.
It’s a contemporary RH and true to the title, everything happens on one lovely journey on road. When I heard the name ‘Road Trip’, my first thought was what story can happen on road? Adventure can happen but emotions? How? But when I read this book I was stunned, it’s hell of a ride story. It’s all adventurous, fast paced, full of emotions and characters are so unique in their own terms. Addison has written a great spiced up story. The main character Haliee runs away from her current life and boyfriend, and takes a Road Trip to her new destination. She is in the phase of self loathing, full of doubts with the mental stress a abusing relationship can stem. She decides to give herself an escape from reality and figure out oneself and in the process she meets 3 amazing human beings with their own baggage- Carter, Linc, Jax. With each one of them, Haliee comes to a different self actualisation. These 4 come from different background with different struggles but when they find each other on one road trip, their life changes and an instant click happens, like finding the piece of puzzle that fits. I won’t explain more otherwise it will be spoiled. I was all in for that damm epilogue and it made my soul so happy. Read for yourself and you’ll thank me later.
Such a great read! The story itself is amazing! I loved seeing how each character grew individually and then together as a group. And then of course there’s the spicy scenes which were 🔥! I still can’t decide which of the guys is my favorite. Sad it’s a stand-alone and I don’t get more of them, but it’s honestly perfect the way it is and I’ll just have to settle for reading it all over again. ❤️
This book is hot AF and will melt your knickers off!!
Hailee is the FMC who leaves her abusive ex partner and decides to road trip to live with her sister. Along the way on day 1 she meets Carter who has also left his over controlling ex partner and they decide to travel together to Las Vegas. On day 2, they meet Linc and a three way, one night stand turns into something more. Day three sees the group meeting up with Jax. The four decide to travel together and see a few sights along the way. Hailee and Carter’s ex’s team up and cause issues for the group.
This book has multi POV’s and an epilogue six years later so we can see what they’re all up to.
It’s contemporary and a great poly read as Carter is bi, Linc is pan and Jax thought he was straight until meeting the group and exploring another side of himself.
Such a unique and quirky RH. I liked the fast pace of the story. Love standalones anyway. MM is quite new to me and I like it. I think Addison wrote these particular scenes really well. It was also refreshing to not read a dark and gritty RH. The story flowed well and each conflict and resolution worked well 😁 Jax is my kind of character 😊
Sometimes, you stumble across a book with a story that objectively shouldn't work, except it absolutely does. This is one of them. I mean... The underlying plot is so thin and has so many holes that lace would be jealous of how flimsy it is. The resolution to the big "plot problem" is ridiculous. I read it, noted the fact, and decided that I absolutely didn't care. I loved the book. Because the plot is a merely an excuse to make the true story shine: the characters. And sex. As a rule, I hate unnecessary sex scenes. I tend to skip them once or twice and when it gets too much, I stop reading. Road Trip has about a dozen sex scenes and I didn't skip a single one. They were all absolutely scorching, new, interesting, and somehow each of them added something to the story.
Four people travel west across the USA, each of them lost in their own way. The road is a liminal space and without society's limitations of what's "right" these four people can discover their missing pieces in each other. When society tries to drag them back in the form of homophobia, their own pasts and the scars they bear, it's their connection that saves them.
Haily and Carter each flee from an abusive relationship, still wounded and bleeding. Linc tries to escape an existence where nobody cares for who he actually is. And Jax... Jax doesn't flee anything, because he doesn't have anything.
I read this in a day. No, I didn't get enough sleep. And no, I don't regret anything. These people managed to worm their way into my heart and in the end, though I was satisfied and happy with their journey, I wanted more.
There just are so many things I still want to see, so many excuses to spend a little more time with these wonderful people:
Overall: If you want to have a good time with a book and fall in love with four very different, sometimes really flawed people, this is the book for you.
ARC Review I LOVED this book. I literally could not put it down. When Hailee decides to uproot herself from Chicago to go to Vegas she never knew it would change the course of her life.
When she has her first stop in Sioux Falls she meets high school geography teacher Carter who she instantly clicks with. It feels like fate when she finds out he is heading to Vegas just like she is.
Along the way they find another two people to add to their road trip, a model by the name of Linc and a mechanic named Jax.
“There’s no better feeling than when you meet someone who speaks to your soul.”
These four act like they’ve known each other their whole lives however when Hailee and Carter’s pasts come knocking, will the four be able to survive it?
The CHEMISTRY in this book is off the charts. These 4 fit together like a puzzle that was always meant to be. The storylines behind each character is phenomenal. I could rave about this book all day long!
