The Winds of Change

At the request of the council, Brooke is sent into a foreign harbor where the locals don't trust her. She'll have to convince these strangers to fight alongside the watchmen, even if it means bringing them to their deaths.

Desperately clinging to the hope of a better future, she refuses to back down. Her word is all she has and not even the council can take that away.

But the sinister ideologies of the watchmen are deeper than she could ever imagine, and Brooke is caught up in their dangerous game. If she does what they ask, her family won't be safe. And if she rebels, taking matters into her own hands, the earth may be destroyed again.

The Winds of Change, book four in the City on the Sea series, picks up where book three ended. Our heroic female lead character is faced with insurmountable odds in a destroyed future full of corruption and deceit. A deadly force may loom on the horizon, but the real danger is much closer than it seems.

Heather Carson really never disappoints. Picking up right where Land of Promises left off, we follow Brooke becoming a force to be reckoned with. I went back to Land of Promises to read the last couple of chapters as a refresher and Winds of Change flowed seamlessly from there. I loved this book, the development of characters, the relatable emotions, the mystery of past relationships, and the discovery that more people are involved in the depth of well kept secrets! Well done but it’s not over yet! Brooke still has more work to do! Now we wait for book five.

This book was exactly what I wanted in this series although it threw me through some loops and had me on an emotional roller coaster. This book is well written my love for the characters in this series has not changed if anything it is stronger! Hoping so hard there will be a book 5 because I just love the world building in this you feel like you are part of their lives and adventures! I am absolutely in love with every part of this series! It is a must read and one of my go to recommendations for people! Amazing job heather!

Okay... first of all, if you have not started this series, ARE YOU CRAZY?!

Secondly, Heather Carson has done it again. One minute I'm happy, the next I'm bawling uncontrollably, huddled in blankets trying to catch my breath. I have not been able to see straight since starting this book. I had to wait for a while to start it because I knew it would be the only thing to happen once I did start.

Our hero, Brooke, is once again at sea. She has to figure out how to console her heart after finding out she is not truly going home, but to another city on the sea, being away from Calder, and finding Atlas, the Watchman who loved her grandma. Brooke wants to prove everyone wrong about her. She is not just going to sit back and let... events happen *SHHHH* no spoilers ;)

I think the writing style of this series is definitely different from other books, but I like how it is broken up and not just a long soliloquy or internal monologue. I look forward to the next book! I am also eager to see if Lopt is worthy of our "goddess." So far, I kinda like him A LOT! Though I need to stop having fictional crushes, HE IS ONE! I want a man to treat me like I am the light of the world. Heather Carson should help write a good husband for me *prays my dear spouse never reads this*

I love you Heather and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series! 5 books seems fair. Are you going to warn me ahead of time if it turns into 6? or am I just going to have to be shocked... AGAIN.

Heather Carson has delivered once again! I’ve really grown to love this series. Initially I was drawn in by the concept but the characters are what has kept me here.
I actually think this might be my favorite of the series so far, a close tie with the second one. So much action, twists and turns, and emotions are packed into just 160 pages.
It was so fun to see Brooke reunited with past characters and to see all the events of the previous books finally coincide.
The only thing is these books are so short! Part of me thinks book 1 and 2 could be combined and then book 3 and 4 combined, so you can definitely read it that way, but it would be nice to have them connected cohesively.

To answer the question at the back of the book, yes, I think we need a fourth one! It would be so interesting to see how the people of land and sea integrate and learn to work together, and I really want to see Brooke settled and happy. We’re just missing a bit of finality.

Overall, excellent installment in the series!

YA Dystopian

The Winds of Change was another page turner, full of action and intrigue. Still recommend if you’re looking for a quick exciting read that is entertaining. There were things I liked and things I didn’t. Brooke has changed so much since the first book that I’m struggling with my feelings about her character. Also so many questions that I have not gotten an answer to. Then there is the insta love with little foundation, which is weird. It’s just a little confusing, I still don’t feel like I know Calder the male MC at all. At this point I think I know Lopt, the other male character who is a friend way better, maybe that’s on purpose and guess I will find out as I finish out the series. I really hope this wraps up nicely because I do really like the idea of this water world vs the land concept.

Action and Romance

The synopsis for the first book in this series promised romance, and the Winds of Change finally delivered. I didn't mind waiting for it, since the rest of the series has been so narratively fascinating, but it's nice to see the characters get together.

The faster change of pace for this novel was definitely an improvement, and the tension introduced through both new characters, settings, and conflicts kept the forward momentum rolling along at a nice clip.

I really liked that after everything Brooke has been through in the first three books that there are still more surprises and plot twists to keep things fresh and engaging. Honestly, the series could have ended with this book and I would have been satisfied with that, but there were enough plot threads seeded into the first 4 novels that it'll be interesting to see how the last novel wraps everything up.

Heather Carson has done it again. The series as a whole is already amazing, before you read book 4 be ready for the emotional rollercoaster you are getting on! Much like the rest of the series I had a hard time putting this one down and had to force myself not to read it in one sitting. My love and connections to the main character Brooke were strengthened through out this book as she begins to step into more of a leader role. This was exactly what the series needed! I can’t wait to see what happens next **hint hint Heather we need a book 5!!** I highly suggest this book as well as the rest of the dearies!

As conflict continues to heat up, Brooke finds herself thrust directly into the path of conflict. She's asked to speak with the townspeople to see if they will fight, but when she does and they agree, the people still aren't happy. How can she better the world for her people and not repeat the violence from the past?
I still feel like this series feels like we are getting the story a few chapters at a time instead of a full novel with resolutions for parts of the story. It's definitely not the last in the series.

I absolutely loved this book! The other three books in the series had amazing world building and plots and this book definitely did not disappoint. I loved getting to know Brooke and all the other characters more. The ending had me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoy how fast paced the book was; I always wanted to know what was going to happen next. I have loved every single book in this series and I can't wait to see if Brooke's story continues!

Ahhhhh Heather!!!!! You are killing me. With this endings. You books have me enthralled I read them so fast.

Now I don’t know if it’s my kindle but the paragraphs and line spacing seem weird. Maybe longer paragraphs I stead of the short ones? That’s my only negative.

But the story omg!!!!! I could picture the whole thing in my head right to the very end. And another cliffhanger???? The next book is hopefully the last? No I lie I want more!!!!!

Absolutely Love It.

I absolutely loved this! Its perfect and I'm so happy Brooke got to see her family again. I think this went exactly where it needed too. And I'd love to see another book.

It was nice to see her figure out how to outsmart the women hating watchmen that were in her way. Its nice to see her make friends with Lopt despite his hatred for Calder. And, I can't believe that Calder is that daft.

Overall I loved this and would recommend it.

Still in love with the series

I wasn't sure what to expect from the book, but it was just as good as the others! My only compliant is that I have to wait for the fifth book when I thought this was the last!

Hope and Dismay

This series tells a story of keeping hope alight in the face of all else. Of fighting for the future and the change you want to see. But it's also a reminder that life doesn't go to plan, and sometimes, despite good intentions, we can hurt the ones we love.

This is a review for the entire series, all five books.
If you like dystopian YA series then this needs to be on your TBR. It has a relatable h who lives in world that ours could possibly become in the future. One of my favorite dystopian YA series .

This one was a bit of a harder read, not because the story was bad, but because the content was more intense. The actions and people in this book are harsh and deadly. The world itself is growing and we are seeing more and that means a harder, but amazing read.

The first half of this book felt like it was almost dragging, but it gained a better rhythm when the story picked up. I enjoy following Brooke on her journey and her growing relationship with Calder. Her adventure isn't yet over, and I wonder where the last book will go.

Some Adventure!

That was quite a ride I must admit. Of course there is a cliff hanger to get you to the next book right? I believe things are getting better, but this post apocalyptic tale depends on the belief that we run out of land so we have to cull the herd (sound familiar yet?). Looking to see if there is another book now.

I loved this book. I love the little glimpses we got into Calder and Brooke and I really hope they end up together in the last book. I think the world building continues to be great and I love how it sets up for the next books.

There's not a lot to say about this one without revealing major spoilers so I'll just say, my heart was ever so hopeful and then broken. I was only halfway through wondering there's no way this can end with this book or the final one. I don't know how Heather can do it, but I know she's the one who can.

Why does Lopt keep calling her "goddess?" It's annoying. Also, the story got real random in this book IMO. Maybe the final book will redeem this one.
