David Nunn considers himself a good man. Employed as a counsellor for a mental health charity in North London, his typical day revolves around broken minds and dysfunctional lives.
Then, one day in January, a young man staggers into the charity’s office; no appointment booked and seemingly in the grip of a drug-induced episode. David reluctantly agrees to see the young man.
It proves a brief but fateful encounter.
Within days of that meeting, two men gatecrash David’s life; their motives wildly different but each making a demand. What they both have in common is their propensity for violence and deep-rooted psychological issues.
As his world descends into turmoil, David must decide if one of those men can save him from the other. Perhaps more importantly, can he save a self-confessed headcase from himself?
I've read all of Keith's books got hooked on 86 fix, but for me the Clement books are full on smile inducing great stories. The journey of each character as the get support from the big guy to solve the life changing chaos they find themselves in to the change they make through his influence are fantastic to read. This is another great book about a character you sort of roll your eyes at in the beginning to genuinely rooting for by the end all through his interaction with Clement. The buddy up movie feel to the story is great as is the odd couple dynamic and delving further into Clements life before you know what is really good to. The end had a bit of finality to it but I'm hoping that is a double swerve from Keith as a Character such as Clement should be around for the next soul who needs a guardian angel.
Just finished the fourth and what I assume to be the final instalment of the Clement series and I wasn't disappointed. It rounded the series off nicely and left you with a feeling of closure. I have loved the fact that each of the 4 books has a very different problem but Clements unique assistance is the constant running through. I have wanted to pick the book up and read at every possible opportunity to be immersed into the story but as with all Keith's books I haven't wanted it to end . I discovered Keith by accident about a year ago when the 86 fix was a book available in the kindle library. It wasn't my usual genre but being a child of the much loved 80's I decided to give it a go. I wasn't disappointed and have been hooked on Keith's writing ever since having devoured at least 8 of his novels . They are all different but with that unexplained element of the unexplained supernatural\sci-fi. Thank you Keith for your brilliant books can't wait to start my next one. 😊
I liked this book bunches. Clement is himself, and a welcome appearance he is for this reader. In terms of the familiar, he does the same outside the lines assistance to the (in this case) narrator that he did in the other volumes.
The specific problem and the details of the help are different. But anyone who reads a series values and expects this: in a mystery series, there will be at least one murder, the sleuth will solve it relating to police procedures, either outside as an amateur or inside/around as a police detective (of whatever rank).
Clement is fun, and ironically comforting in an uncomfortable way. Having said that, I didn't like his mission-person. The narrator is to me the least sympathetic of all four of Clement's aid-recipients. Normally I'm a push-over for an unreliable narrator. But in this case, I thought he was a jerk and self-deluded. That was funny considering he thought Clement was needing mental health treatment.
Anyway, the book is well worth the cost and the time. What else can you ask of any book?
I am reviewing the fourth in this series, although I have read the first three as well. All of them make for easy and enjoyable reading. The humour and of course Clement with his prodigous appetite, emission of noxious gases and seventies attire is great. What made this one less fun was the person Clement was helping - Nunn is bit of a po-faced bore and in fact I found both him and his wife quite annoying. Then again perhaps they were meant to be.
The one thing that I find irritating in the series is the use of the past tense. As in, "he was sat there" "she was stood there". This is a construction that is used colloquially and in dialects and can be used if a person is quoted but otherwise it is not grammatically correct. What is wrong with "was seated" or "was standing" Unfortunately it is creeping in to more and more books that I have read on the Kindle and it never ceases to exasperate!
I love the Clement series, I love all of Keith Pearson books, find the story always goes at pace, brings the main characters to life.
Keith has the knack of keeping you engaged from the first page, God knows why this guy isn't a mainstream best seller, funny engaging stories with a fair bit of mystery thrown in every time, I always get lost in his books, instead of a half hour of tv when I wake up, it's a half hour read!!
Really can't speak highly enough of this author. I always get near the end of his books and start feeling sad that it's coming to an end.
Read this, read the whole Clement series, matter of fact, read all of Keith's books.
I read a lot, all genres, and can't think of anyone I prefer reading.
This is the fourth Clement book and I am unsure if it’ll be the last .... I have truly enjoyed each and every one but this one was magnificent! After the third book I was unsure how this one would pan out and I’m pleased to say it didn’t disappoint. Once again Clement comes up trumps to help out the lead character, and I think the reason I enjoyed this latest instalment was because I could identify much more with the general storyline. I do love Keith Pearson’s books and the way that he always adds a touch of fantasy to each story..... one of my favourite authors. I am sure whatever comes next will be excellent, I’m just hoping I won’t have to wait too long
I can not express enough how much I enjoyed this book. It was a real page turning roller coaster of a story. I adore Clement, a true man of the 70s, with his though talking and politically incorrect views. Yet at the same time his wisdom and understanding of people and their situations. I also liked the character of David Nunn, this character's background story and highlighting mental health issues was good. I thought the way it all came together at the end was perfect. I was, however, sad to finished the book. I will miss Clement. Mr Pearson you Smashed it again. Thank you so much.
All 4 books kept me hooked. Original & well written
There's something unique about this series:I'm an avid & prolific reader & it's rare for me to come across stories that are so original. Mr Pearson also writes both eloquently & with a good grasp of how people would truly react to both every day & extraordinary situations. Clement is a fascinating protagonist & I really hope there is some way he can come back to both steer the "good'ons" onto better roads while inadvertently causing fatal a RTA for the thoroughly nasty "wrong'ons". I'm not normally so bloodthirsty: Perhaps Clement has rubbed off a bit on me too!
During these troubling times pure escapism. I am not into violent books, thrillers other than cosy ones or books about neglected or abused children and more and more books seem to be about these subjects. This book as with the others in the series are a delight the hero Clement is violent and sometimes it makes me cringe but it's always with a purpose - that is to help someone or rescue them from a bad situation. The only trouble is once started you get so involved with the characters you want to know they will all be safe. So once again I read it too quickly a sign I find of a good book. Loved the ending.
It’s not often I write reviews as I don’t have a talent with words. Therefore I find it challenging to make time to express myself and render an accurate account of my impressions. I decided to make an exception for Clement’s last adventure as a thank you for an author who’s talent never disappointed. Needless to say, I’m a huge fan of Clement series, each book is a rollercoaster of emotions, and even though a second read will not have the mystery element from the first reading, I will return to them with great pleasure especially if this turns out to be the end of the series.
I always look forward to delving again into the world of the double denim wearing Clement and whilst life has led me to be a little late to this latest party, once again Keith A Pearson certainly does not disappoint.
Another thrilling brush with the criminal underbelly of London for Clement’s latest unwilling associate with Pearson doing what he does best yet again in melding adventure, intrigue, humour and a touch of mystery into another belter of a novel.
I sincerely hope that Keith (and the eponymous Clement) continue to receive and grow the reputation they deserve, as much as I hope that there are more adventures for Clement to come.
Another brilliant Clement tale. I thought the novelty of a man stuck in the wrong generation may be difficult for his creator to maintain but he just keeps showing his readers a little more of Clement's back story with every book. The only problem I have is finishing each story too quickly and needing to wait for the next instalment. I'm hoping that there is one! Well done Keith, another great read.
Another fantastic book by Keith! Tried to make this book last but due to illness I have binge read in 2 days! Really hope there’s more Clement in future, you can’t help but love him! In years to come when my grandkids (who don’t exist yet!) ask me how I got through covid 19 I will be sure to tell them it was amazing family, friends, hardworking colleagues and headcase 🥰🥰
Again, I failed miserably at trying to drag out a Keith Pearson book. Savaged in 36hrs.
The Big Man coming back again with his superb attitude and love for women and pints and double denim. I was SO looking forward to this book and it didn’t let me down. I just love Clement and I love the other characters and their stories and how all the stories meld into one another. Another absolute win by my favourite author. Well done.
Always a joy to read about Clement as he is duty bound, by the voice in his head, to help out someone in dire straits. This time it is David Nunn who finds himself dragged into the mire and, being a counsellor at a mental health charity, he has his doubts about Clement. Will he accept the help of Clement? Will we laugh out loud at certain times? Will David like T Rex? What do you think? A joy indeed.
I have already read the first three books but re read when headcase was released just to catch up,and was so glad I did! Wonderful books with interesting characters the number one being the double denim wearing Clement. Each book has its own story to tell with Clement coming to the rescue......just read for yourself and enjoy.Would highly recommend.
If you haven't read these, you don't know what you're missing. I've read and really enjoyed every Clement story so far. Book 4 is brilliant and in this one, Clement seems to have changed and hardened (as odd as that sounds). It is a shame that we have to spend so many (necessary) pages building the storyline but that's part of this series. I truly hope there is a book 5 and beyond.
I really love this series and the way that the various characters are "grown". I think that growing is a good metaphor for the way the author develops Clement and his story. We learn more about him in each book, but never enough for him to become familiar to us. The good guys are flawed, as in real life, but the bad guys are totally evil and easy to hate. More please.
Yet another compelling and wonderful Clement tale! The Bully Buster from Camden is a superhero whose power is calling women “doll” and getting away with it. No PC for C back in the days where women were dolls or love, and men were mate or pal. Now it’s a load of pronouns. My, how times have changed! How common sense has fallen from grace. Woke virtue signaling triggered? Oh no, have I just been triggered? We need more Clems in our lives.
Another absolutely cracking book from Keith A Pearson. Couldn’t wait for this latest Clement adventure and it didn’t disappoint. Another round of believable characters who just absorb you in a storyline. You can hear, smell and taste the setting of the book, you are submersed in the plot. Readers of the series will be left craving for more.
Absolutely fantastic book - the authors best work. An engaging, dramatic, humorous, roller coaster of a story that I just couldn't put down. The story telling is 3 dimensional with situations, events, personalities - palpable and emotional. You can't help getting behind the "rough diamond" that is Clement - 10/10
Absolutely class end to Clements story arc (maybe ?) loved ever one of these books raced through them as they came out and will probably go back to the beginning some point in the future. As I have already done with the 86 fix . Keith's writing style just seems to suit me, not overly complicated and at some points 80's retro would describe his style although this is only my opinion.
Read all four books and this one is brilliant like it's predecessors. I'm only sad if it's the end of Clement but as previously you never know. A great story and characters we can all relate to, not to mention the insight into emotions and feelings or beliefs. Great story, great guy, Clement we love you.
Another adventure with Clement and I'm left wanting more! How does 1acquire the 70s throwback?? I need Clement now and I'm a Doll, so cannot write anymore in case the big denim clad Demi God arrives and he's needing a brew and a full english! Another cracking read Keith Thank you
I loved this series of books and read them one after the other. I genuinely had a tear in my eye after reading the last sentence. No definitive answers were given but I think I prefer that outcome. The books have been engrossing, un-put-downable and emotional with some genuine laugh out loud moments. Read them!
Excellent series, and you HAVE TOO, must, should read the series. Clement becomes the friend you hope you never have and the best person to ever have in your life !! Love how you wrapped up the story. It fits with the whole premise you've woven into a stellar tale! A 5-star effort and a 5-star series!!
I have really enjoyed the Clement books. I was totally immersed in Clement’s life from book one to book four. What a great writing style Keith A Pearson has! The ending was brilliant, a completely fitting finish to Clement’s story, although I’m sorry not to have any more Clement to look forward to.
Presuming this to be the last Clement book, I intended to read it carefully and savour it. It was too good and too unputdownable. From enjoyable 70s vibes to a Father Ted-like Ecumenical Matter of Good and Evil, with perfect characters and dialogue throughout the quartet.
Was advised to read this series of books by my brother, knowing is taste in literature I was a little hesitation but thought I would give it a go. This was the best advise given to me by my brother, could not put it down,so different funny in places and being brought up in sixties and seventies immediately recognised Clement. Brilliant
Actually devastated to have finished this book. Clement will always have a place in my heart. If you’re considering starting to read Keith’s books, what are you sainting for...do it.
