I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written, debut novel by Liana George. Nicki Mayfield is a profession organizer whose business has soured. When she agrees to one last job with a cantankerous, wealthy woman, it sets her on an unexpected journey of the heart and changes every aspect of her life. Set in part in China, this unique tale will charm its way into your heart.

Sweet book full of fun characters, fascinating locations, and a cause to root for. While it was hard to like some of the characters at the beginning, the growth they go through during the course of the story has you wanting to dive in and pull them faster. The author did a great job weaving the threads together for a satisfying ending, while also leaving me very much looking forward to the next book ... and the next!

Review:
This was my first time reading a book/series by Liana George so i wasnt sure what to expect but i have to say i really enjoyed this one. It reminded me alot like watching a Small Town Christian Movie.

The Characters were really enjoyable to read about. Nicole "Nicki" Mayfield was definately my favorite especially how she took a new job offer being a Personal Organizer for clients after closing up her business.

The Setting was beautifully described which made me feel like i was actually in a small town while reading especially when the scenery was described.

Overall a Good Book 1 in this Christian Fiction Series about a Personal Organizer helping a family when she finds a family's belongings connected to China!! Can't wait to read Book 2 soon!!

#BookReview: PERFECTLY ARRANGED by Liana George

Perfectly Arranged is a great start to the Hopeful Heart series. The title and the cover caught my attention. It’s so pretty. I enjoy organizing too but not as strict as Nicki though. She is a professional and it bothered her so much whenever she sees things are not in order.

Nicki and Ms. O'Connor worked well together. So I was not surprised that Ms. O’Connor asked Nicki to accompany her to China. They had to find out more about the business card with Chinese characters.

I became more engaged as soon as they landed in Beijing. The story was interesting with cultural aspects. So many unique and fascinating descriptions. I always wanted to see The Great Wall and this book made me want to visit it more.

It was in China that I started to warm up to Nicki’s character. She’s flawed and thinks mostly about herself. But I love how she stepped up and was passionate about dissuading Ms. O’Connor. I liked how her character developed in the story. God speaks to us in different ways. Nicki was still finding her way to God, but this trip brought her closer to Him. I’m happy she had her mom’s Bible with her. I liked reading her mom's advices.

I really liked Julia’s character and her influence on Nicki. She was so warm and loving. I like how they are different but the same in many ways.

The book was written in present tense. It didn’t really bother me that much. It was just different from the other books I have read.

This heartwarming story will take you on a journey to a different culture and self discovery. I was really moved by it. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. 4 stars

When Nicki's professional organizing business dries up due to one mistake (albeit, to her client, one very large mistake), she takes a temporary assignment with a demanding woman, hoping the payment for her services will keep her afloat until she can find a job in the private sector. Instead, a discovery of a business card lettered with Chinese characters made by Ms. O'Connor sets the two on a journey to China to discover what's at the address on the card. The women are assisted by a hired guide who takes them to the address, where what they'll find will lead to enormous choices for both Ms. O'Connor and Nicki.

Nicki's journey isn't just based on business decisions. She is faced with a situation that, whether it goes one way or another, will hugely impact people. How does a woman in a foreign land, unfamiliar with its culture or customs, go about making a positive impact, especially if it might also impact her job? Nicki's Christian faith, while definitely present, hasn't had to depend on God for something she thinks is impossible. An adventure...and a new friend...are before Nicki, and her heart might be changed in the process.

Liana George's Perfectly Arranged is a delightful read! No doubt including some of George's own experiences from her years in China, this book invites readers into a different culture and what it is like to experience it as a non-native. I loved Nicki and watching her meet God in a place she forgot He'd be in just as she was...and what adventure with Him can look like. Don't miss George's fantastic read. It is truly a delight.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the journey I went on with Nicki and Ms O'Connor.
Nicki uses order to find meaning in life and in a way, it made and broke her.
When she gets the opportunity to travel with Ms O'Connor to China, it opens up a whole new world to her and brings us along her journey of growth and discovery.
She attempts to make a change that might not be possible but goes for it anyway attesting to the individual she's become through the course of this journey.
This was a truly awesome read.

Well, I have to admit that Nicki drove me a little bit crazy with her need for organizing and control at first. The book starts with her in a tough place, and it only gets tougher when she starts to work for Ms. O'Connor. I liked how the characters developed over the course of the story though. It's worth sticking with the story, if you are like me and find it hard to relate to Nicki at first. I could relate to the grief that both she and Ms. O'Connor are dealing with, and I know that we all grieve in different ways. Overall, this is a delightful story with a unique cast of characters. I loved the journey that they go on, both the spiritual journey as well as actual travel.
This book will have you looking to organize your home!

A promising start to a new series

My rating is 3.5 stars

Though Nikki didn't realize it at first, she and Ms. O'Connor had so much in common! Both were hurt deeply in the past in ways that affected them into their present.

It was interesting to read about the life of a professional organizer. While a part of me scoffed at how Nikki was able to use her skills in the messy office in China, I realized that it actually made sense and could work. Wow!

Descriptions of the country and some of the cultural differences were also interesting. I had no idea there are chair lifts for ascending and a slide for descending from the top of the Great Wall of China!

Nikki's need for order made her an incredible organizer. It had never occurred to me the many ways a need for control might manifest itself, or how it could affect one's view of everything around her. The contrast between her almost spartan lifestyle with her mother's hoarding, and the reason behind it, was as stark as it was touching.

A spiritual thread ran throughout the story, focusing mainly on Nikki's lack of relationship with the Lord and her unfamiliarity with the Bible, despite being a Christian. Julia, one of the Chinese people Nikki met, was a delightful testimony of the joy of the Lord even in less than ideal circumstances.

Other than Julia, I found the characters a little unrelatable. Nikki came across as selfish, though it was clear that this was partly because of the pain she carried.

One aspect of the story that made it difficult for me was the use of first-person present tense. This is a fingernail-on-the-chalkboard thing for me and Perfectly Arranged caused the same frustration. It was a big distraction from the events taking place.

Overall, this debut novel has potential. If you enjoy women's fiction, I encourage you to read it yourself and see what you think.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I really like this story. Nicki Mayfield’s  professional organizer business is going under and she is in desperate need for a job the Keep her from moving in with her very unorganized, maybe hoarder mom. But when she get a callback from someone she has reached out to, she finds herself helping to organize a room for a most obnoxious woman. Which leads Nicki on an interesting journey she never saw coming.

Liana George does an outstanding job writing her first debut novel. With characters worming their way into our hearts, some quickly, some take a while, I thoroughly enjoyed the journey with Nicki and Ms. O’Connor, taking in all of the detailed descriptions of each scene. And I learned a thing or two in the process. I loved the trip to China with twists and turns and secrets unfolding, and the relationship between these two as it grew. There’s so much more to this lovely delightful read that you really need to read it for yourself to get the full impact of the story. The sweet element of faith throughout in the lives of the characters makes Perfectly Arranged even more enjoyable.

When I saw this book cover and the title, I was puzzled at what the book could be about, and I rarely read the back cover to a book so I wasn’t sure what to expect. After reading the story, I find that the title and cover fit perfectly with the story. I hope you will check out Perfectly Arranged by Laina George for a few hours of sweet entertainment!

I first want to thank Travelling Pages tours and the authors for sending me a digital copy of this book to read.

If you are looking for a wholesome, easy read, non romantic Christian fiction to read, this is it!

I really enjoyed this story, with the culture of China being incorporated. I have to admit, I wanted to go organize my house with all the organizing talk at the beginning of the book.

I can’t wait to read the next one!

I loved this book. Great characters, a heroine you’re rooting for, and travel to a foreign country—what could be better? Layered with a mystery, a darling baby just waiting for a serious operation and loving parents, and a tender, conflicted mother/daughter relationship, Perfectly Arranged is a book that tugs at your heart and stays on your mind for many days after finishing. Highly recommend!

I fell in love with this lead character right away and quite enjoyed following her surprising journey. It’s so refreshing to read a well written book with a positive, encouraging message. No foul language, no overdone sex scenes, just a regular girl living in a real world with real challenges and letting her faith lead her. It was honest and engrossing and I can hardly wait for the next installment! Well done! I highly recommend it.

I was caught up in the story from the first line. I love that Nicki is a professional organizer. She is down-to-earth, sweet, and easy to connect with. You immediately empathize with her fear of having to move back in with her mother. I think most adults have the same fear when things are not going quite as well as we hoped they would be going.

After three years of blood, sweat, and tears, I've failed at the one thing I'd believed I was meant to do.

Ms. O'Conner immediately reminds me of Emily Gilmore when her character is introduced. I find her a bit cold and abrupt. However, as the story goes on we get a much better understanding of her character and the layers that surround her.

After seven hours of intense work, I finally finish organizing all of Ms. O'Connor's shoes.

When Ms. O'Conner is going through her father's things she finds a business card with a Chinese address. I didn't understand her decision to immediately take off for China to find a secret, why it was so urgent, and why she insists a virtual stranger go with her. She is extremely impulsive several times in the story, which seems contradictory to her character.

Ms. O'Connor's allowing a powerful emotion to dictate her actions, but I can't let her.

Through this unlikely friendship, Nicki and Ms. O'Conner learn that things are not always as they seem. They learn quite a bit about each other and Nicki grows in ways that she didn't know were possible. As does Ms. O'Connor. I loved following their journey and experiencing China through Nicki's eyes. Having traveled and lived overseas I have been in some of the exact situations that Nicki found herself in. I appreciate that there is not a love interest in the story. It was refreshing to read a story and not have it be all about or even end in a romance. It would have been distracting to the storyline, which was incredible (despite my complaints!).

My biggest complaint is that I felt like the story ended abruptly. There were so many details in the story and then it just ended. However, it leaves room for the next two books in the series. The author takes us on an emotional journey with a few surprises that leaves us wanting more.

Thank you to the author and JustRead Publicity for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

Nicki likes life to be organized. But she is coming to realize that fitting everything neatly into a box does not always work. Especially if difficult human beings are involved.

Nicki has made a few mistakes that have resulted in her needing to close her professional organizing business. But then she gets a call that provides her with an opportunity for one more client. The only problem? This client, Socialite Katherine O'Connor is demanding and has expectations that are tough to meet. Nicki is worried that her determination may actually be a detriment. And it is at first - until the client comes to appreciate Nicki's approach.

Katherine finds something in her father's final papers that leads her to go to China. She decides to take Nicki along to assist. Nicki's caring heart leads her to be involved in ways she never anticipated. Has she finally found her place?

Although there is a sign that book 2 in this new series might be headed that direction, this book is not a romance. Instead it is a story of discovering your roots and appreciating where you have come from. The story is also about finding out how you can make a difference with your gifts.

Occasionally the main character was a bit negative. Her faith seemed a bit too subjective at times. But overall, I do think this is a strong read about learning to think about others. Final rating: 4.5.

I was provided a copy of this book as a part of a book tour. I wanted to write a review. If book two in the series comes out, I hope to read that one as well. All opinions are my own.

Nicki Mayfield is the main character in this story that is filled with soul-searching and faith. I read this lovely book in one evening, because I just couldn’t put it down. Nicki had a tough life and was going through a time when her business failed and she was contemplating moving back in with her mother, who was a hoarder. She was a wonderful professional organizer and her last costumer became a lady who changed her life.

She began working with a hard-nosed socialite, organizing her shoe room. When this lady’s father dies, Ms. O’Connor asked Nicki to travel with her to China on an adventure. Her estranged father had left an address in China amongst his most treasured possessions. After a rushed trip, they found that this was an orphanage. Ms. O’Conn0r was furious that he kept this secret, loving these children and not showing her love.

Nicki finds out that this orphanage takes in children with heart conditions and provides surgery and care. She is bold sharing her feelings with Ms. O’Conn0r, who promptly sends her home. Nicki is desperate to find a way to sway her employer. She turns to God, praying for His help to save the orphanage. I recommend this book whole-heartedly.

Perfectly Arranged by Liana George sends the reader on a trip around the world as Nickie Mayfield is dragged along to help her eccentric boss confront her past. The story focuses on Chinese orphanages and their important medical work. The author spent several years in China and draws upon this experience to tell Nickie’s story. George does an excellent job of showcasing Chinese customs and their orphanage system. I really enjoyed the setting of this story and the contrast between America and China. I did find the character development lacking and their transition to quick/not explained. I know this is the first book in series so hopefully we will see more of Nickie’s character growth on the page in the rest of the series.

When you finish reading Liana George’s debut novel, you’ll realize how perfectly fitting the series title is.

I had no idea what kind of journey Perfectly Arranged would take me on, but now that I know, it’s one I would happily take again. While I didn’t like all of the character—one in particular—at first, the growth they go through in this story is made better because of that initial doubt. And there were a few characters I liked from the start and just liked more by the end of the book.

George’s experiences living in China and as a professional organizer shine through the pages. I felt like I was there visiting The Great Wall with Nicki (and I didn’t know about the way you can get down that Nicki experiences. You’ll have to read the book to find out about it, though).

Finally, the most powerful piece in this book is the reason Nicki and her new boss are in China. Y’all, the cause that Nicki fights to save is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time and some of those scenes and people are going to stick with me for a long time.

We meet Nicki who is a new Christian with a difficult past relationship with her mom and her organizing business has gone under. This gal has had it rough and she looks at life through a pretty negative lens. She's a new Christian who is trying to figure things out.

Things get pretty crazy when she's offered a job with a hoity toity rich lady. Thankfully she has a warm assistant who sees how Nicki's skills will be a benefit. This relationship is a tumultuous one as well. Nicki can't seem to avoid them. I actually like her mom, but her mom's hoarding has negatively effected their relationship. I felt so bad for Nicki with the stress her mom's hoarding causes.

A last minute trip to China, yes, China helps Nicki soften more towards Ms. O'Connor and helps her find what she's meant to do in her life!

*I received this book for review. This is my personal opinion.

“We all have secrets we keep hidden from the world.”
This debut novel is filled with a traveler’s enthusiastic dive into Chinese culture when Nicki joins her employer on a quest to discover what waits for them at the mysterious address left by Ms. O’Connor’s deceased father. Ms. George does a fantastic job of balancing Nicki’s awe and joy at cultural differences in a way that highlights and celebrates cultures. I loved her use of Chinese proverbs at the start of every chapter, giving readers a peek into the Chinese way of thinking and their wisdom through the centuries. While I found it hard to relate to Nicki's employer and wished I could have seen Nicki go through some of the negative side of culture shock, I loved how Nicki and her employer are challenged to reexamine their priorities and life choices. Their interaction, their new friendships, and their eye-opening experiences in China prove that, to quote a line from the book, “There’s no telling what’s waiting for us on the other side of the world.” And there’s no telling how our lives can be changed forever by allowing ourselves to step out of our comfort zones.
I received a digital ARC of this book with no expectation in return. The opinions and comments above are mine alone.

In Perfectly Arranged by Liana George, the heroine, Nicki Mayfield, has a gift for simplifying belongings à la Marie Kondo, organizational superstar. Hired by a bristly socialite who owns more shoes than Imelda Marcos, Nicki considers which organizational method to use Shoe type? Shoe purpose? Or color gradients?

I thought this book would focus on the eccentricities of the rich who needed their super-abundant belongings organized. Instead, the narrative crosses the Pacific and focuses on Chinese orphans. Specifically, those with congenital heart defects who might not live without expensive corrective surgery. I loved this entertaining but delightful book and look forward to the others coming in this series.

Perfectly Arranged is an inspiring story about a young professional making her way in the world, her path taking her places she never imagined she'd have the courage to go. Though it isn't the focus of the story, I especially loved how the author shined light on the nuances of the mother-daughter relationship in young adulthood. Exploring the muddy waters of tricky everyday relationships, Perfectly Arranged is a great read for anyone wanting to escape a discouraging situation and find a glimmer of hope—even in the difficult people in our lives.

Nicki's employer, Mrs. O'Connor, takes her on an unexpected adventure to China in search of answers. Her experience is full of fun but also experiences that push Nicki and Mrs. O'Connor out of their comfort zones and force them to face things about themselves and their understanding of what is important in life. The combination of elements creates an interesting story full of fun that is heartwarming at the same time.

Perfectly Arranged was a great read. It had plot twists and turns that kept this reader's interest. The descriptions of China and the Great Wall of China were wonderful. This book was full of fun and heart warming adventures as well as some somber disclosures. The characters were well thought out and came to life on the pages. I read a great deal of Christian fiction in this genre and can say I would highly recommend this book for leisure reading.

Perfectly Arranged was nothing like I was expecting, which was a pleasant surprise. Taking a trip around the world on an unexpected adventure and revealing secrets of a mystery that has been buried deep for decades is just what struggling professional organizer Nicki Mayfield didn’t realize she needed. After a chance phone call and a temporary job leads to a ticket to China, what Nicki believes is her goal ends up turning into something else entirely. It just goes to show that you truly can find your heart’s desires in the most unexpected and unpredictable places.

I enjoyed learning more about Chinese culture and loved that this wasn’t a love story in the traditional sense. This is love for the unloved, seeing those that are forgotten, and becoming whole when you’ve always felt broken. I found a kindred spirit in Nicki, with our shared love of organization, order, and even our opinion of the Marie Kondo method, but her fearlessness is something I can only dream of being. How she stands up for what she believes in, leads with her heart, and breaks rules that need to be broken for the greater good.

Perfectly Arranged is the first book in the Hopeful Hearts series, and I am eagerly awaiting the second installment, as there are so many avenues that are left to be explored. I am hoping for deeper character development and just maybe a budding romance between two certain individuals that clearly have a connection. If it’s anything like this novel it’s going to be another wonderful journey with flawed but lovable characters, writing that immerses you in the narrative, and tackles some deeper subject matter with immense heart.

Happy and excited that I took a chance on this book! I was surprised to learn that this was a debut novel (and even more so to learn the second book is coming July 5th!). I'm a big fan of character growth being one of the strong points and this title hits every landmark with ease and a perfectly paced storyline.

Learning more about Beijing and China were a great addition and I felt immersed into the scenery. Even though I've never been, the descriptions wrap you up with all your senses. I found myself often admitting that I could relate to Nicki with her need for organization and control. But I loved her transition and picked up a few lessons that I could personally use!

The overall message is encouraging and inspirational, without being overwhelming or pushy. Looking forward to the second book!
