About the author

Erin Winters grew up in Raleigh, NC and currently resides in Lynchburg, VA with her husband and son. When she was little she wrote many stories she would likely be appalled to rediscover now, and wanted to be an author around the same time she wanted to be a dolphin trainer. Neither panned out at first, but Erin started writing on the side in August 2017. She started training in the Israeli martial art of Krav Maga around the same time, and enjoys putting bits and pieces from those experiences into her books. Erin also loves steak and potatoes, board games, and curling up in fuzzy socks with a cup of hot chocolate.

Excellent way to teach children about their emotions and that you love them no matter what.

This was a really beautiful read to connect children to their emotions and to reaffirm that parents love them no matter what strong feelings they are having.

Written by Erin Winters and illustrated by Kaitin Bucher, “I Love You When You’re Angry” is a perfect book to make sure that children know that they are loved no matter what. Winters uses a rhyming pattern throughout the book and uses simplified language that a young child can understand.

The illustrations were really pretty. Bucher used forest animals and their young to portray that all living creatures have offspring that sometimes don’t always act and react in ways that their parents want them to. But despite this, the care and love they have for them is always present.

This is a cute book for children and one that they will likely love to read.

A Rhythmic Study of Feelings

I Love You When You're Angry is a sweet and versatile book that helps parents to explain their love for children in all moods while helping at the same time to provide words for littles who may not quite grasp their emotions although nonchalant may still be a stretch.

The book dedicates itself to feelings and then the physical response that either parent, child or both may have with charming, bright cartoonish illustrations of wild animals to showcase emotional responses.

Finally the book ends with an illustrated emotional guide and some interactive questions as well as activities if you want to spend more time with the book.

I borrowed I Love You When You're Angry, by Erin Winters from the Kindle Unlimited Program.

The preschool children that I shared this book with in my reading group at the library loved it. All the emotions are covered and the mother animal tells the youngster that they love them through them all. I liked the faces of the emotions pictured at the back and used them to discuss emotions with my group. The open ended questions at the back were also helpful for any adult reading to a young child that wants to expand the learning expeerience offered in this book about emotions.

A longish read that covers a whole range of emotions, always reassuring the little one they are loved no matter their emotion and no matter the caregiver's emotion, eg "I love you when I'm tired; I love you when I'm cross." I think that's a unique and important distinction from other "I always love you books. Illustrations are cartoonish animals that will most appeal to babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Questions at the back encourage further engagement between reader and listener.

Such a cute book! Not only does it show cute animals feeling big feelings, but it's also so easy to read aloud. Definitely a good read to the littles. What an incredibly important message about loving our children through the good times and the challenges. I know this rings true in my home. This is a great book for parents and kids more so to let kids know that they are safe to express their emotions without fear of not being loved.

I would definitely recommend teachers and small/ private families to read this book with their children when they are upset or they feel you’re upset with them. This book explains how it is okay that someone is upset with you but, no matter what we never stay mad at one another.

Delightful rhyming walk through emotions

This picture book is a delightful “walk through Emotions” with animals illustrating the simple, playful rhymes. I found the meter extremely satisfying when reading and the adorable illustrations complete the storyline. Well done.
