What do you do when the person that is supposed to help is the one you’re running from? Angel Evanston is about to find out. Emily Bright and her best friend Harper White have big dreams, but a chance meeting has changed the course of their future. Now they may not have any future at all.
Two years ago, Angel survived something so traumatic it sent her into hiding. She’s committed to living a life that honors the losses of her past, despite her physical and emotional scars. That means proving she isn’t the coward she was once accused of being.
When Angel finds Emily, bloody and traumatized, in a truck stop bathroom. The story Emily tells is incredible: a sheriff abducts and tortures women, then turns them loose on his ranch to be hunted like animals.
No one has escaped… until now. Emily got out, but Harper is still on the ranch. Angel must choose between turning a blind eye or being the kind of person who helps others, even if it means putting herself in peril – again.
If you like Karin Slaughter, Criminal Minds, and fast-paced stories that keep you on the edge of your seat, you'll love The Hunted: Sins of the Father.
Things about me: • I lived in 19 houses before I was 20 years old, and my family was not in the military. • I started an animal/human welfare nonprofit that continues to operate and keep families together. • For 8 years I owned a buy one, give one pet food brand that supported rescues & shelters across the country. • Unsurprisingly, I have a thing for ‘special’ animals like my dog Chance, who was paralyzed in the back end, and my canine child Charlie, who was born blind. No animals will ever be hurt or killed in my books. (People are totally fair game.) • Even though I’m not a tech bro, I lived in my warehouse for a year (not as cool as it sounds, btw). • Before I ran away from home in LA and moved to Iowa, I worked with celebs. • I used to have severe social phobia; now I’m a big-mouthed, opinionated beast.
I read the first book in this trilogy (although it’s called a duality) The Dollhouse and enjoyed it. This book picks up Angel’s story two years after events of book 1.
For the last two years 17 year old Angel has been riding shotgun with feisty trucker, Concetta Bonaventure, or CB as she is known. One night when they’re parked up at a truck stop Angel goes into the ladies loo and hears someone crying in one of the stalls. She manages to coax the woman to open the door and is shocked at the sight of the traumatised and abused woman. Angel wants to call the police but the woman, 23 year old Emily is aghast. She said the person that tortured her IS the police! She managed to escape while he was hunting her on his property.
Angel helps Emily to the truck. CB is not keen to take on another damaged person but Angel wins her over and they patch Emily up as best they can. Soon Emily starts telling them that she needs to go back and save Harper, her friend that was ‘taken’ with her and is still in the clutches of the sadistic police officer. The rest of the book is about their efforts to save Harper. I’m not going to tell you how that goes but it’s not plain sailing!
I can’t say that I enjoyed the content of this book because of the sheer brutality of some of the scenes. And yet, and yet - Sara Ennis paints her characters in brilliant technicolor! They are so well portrayed you can’t help but empathise with them (well, obviously not the bad guys). If you are going to read this book, you should read the Dollhouse first. Meanwhile I have the third book to go. I hope it will be less violent. Many thanks to BookSirens and the author for proving me with a free copy of the book which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.
Well, Sara Ennis has once again given us a bingeable, dark story and I loved it. I picked it up to start, just a few chapters before bed, and before I knew it I was halfway through it. The next day, I finished. It is one of those stories that you will be thinking about when you are not reading it, a sign of a great story.
Now, you really need to go into The Hunted: Sins of the Father blind. Reading The Dollhouse first would be best as you will understand Angel and why she does what she does a whole lot better. This one picks up after The Dollhouse. Angel is now 17 and travelling across the country with her new best friend, a female trucker. At a rest stop she meets Emily in the bathroom and she tells a story that Angel cannot ignore. She knows she has to help her, and the drama begins.
Thank you so much to Sara Ennis for sending me an advanced copy of this book to read. Grab it December 1st
TRIGGER WARNING: Rape, Sexual Abuse, Physical/Mental Abuse
Book #2 in the Duality Series by Sara Ennis.
What do you do when you find yourself running from the very person that is supposed to help you???
Angel Evanston survived ‘The Dollhouse’ two years ago and is determined to live a life that honours who she is and hopes to become and not the person that was traumatised and suffered at the hands of a crazy man. Angel is on the road with her new bestie CB in her 18wheel home away from home. After skipping town and the well meaning Baden family.
Meanwhile, Emily and Harper are embarking on a journey to the rest of their lives, leaving Texas behind to find fame and fortune in L.A. After a stupid (unforgivable) mistake that Oakley, Emily’s boyfriend makes Em and Harpy are about to pay - perhaps with their lives.
At a road stop Angel finds a bloody, beaten and traumatised Emily in the bathroom and Emily retells her incredible and terrifying story of the Sheriff who stopped to ‘Help’ the girls but took them to his ranch to torture, rape and HUNT them.
Emily managed to somehow escape but is looking for help to rescue the still captured Harper. Will Angel be able to help save Harper before the next Hunt begins and what is CB keeping a secret from her bestie.
What a ride, this book in comparison to the first book was night and day. While I really enjoyed the The Dollhouse, my major complaint was that it was a bit long and the sentence structure was a bit too descriptive. It is as if the author has plucked those thoughts from my own head and changed up the style. The flow of this book was a dream. Short chapters, short sentences easy to read structure and a bit of sarcastic humour thrown in there. 🫶👌
Angel is still our main character but she is older and the author has done a fantastic job of writing the same character but making her every bit the 17 year old she is. Kudos to Sara Ennis, for being able to portray a young girl who is old beyond her years but still has teenage sass. 👏
At the end of book one Angel (at age 15) had struck out on her own determined to make her own life - the Baden family while kind and loving just felt suffocating to Angel - she met CB who saved her life (literally) and took her in and onto the road for the truckers life. 🚛
CB comes with her own baggage but she is a funny, gorgeous Latina woman who drives a bright pink (yep) ‘18 Wheel Rig’. I really thought she was awesome and I would have loved a bit more of her in this story and I really hope she is appears in Book Three The Mercy: Angel of Death. 💃
Angel comes across Emily - who has been badly tortured - in a truck stop bathroom and she helps Emily to open up about what happened to her. After an unforgivable act made by her boyfriend who was giving Emily and Harper a ride to L.A. He leaves them stranded at a truck stop with no money and no way of getting anywhere. Enter the ‘friendly’ Sheriff who picks up the girls to take them to safety. 🚔
Little do they know he is about to take them to their absolute worst nightmare and ‘Vero’ a psychotic crazy lady who wants to ‘play’ with them. 😱
The book is broken up into multiple POV and keeps a good timeline - we hear from Angel, Harper and CB. It is easy to follow and the author brings to the forefront some horrific torturous events but rather than explain in graphic details that would have been stomach retching, she tells us just enough to allow our imagination to fill in those terrifying blanks and there I think is the true genius of this story. The showing the reader and not play-by-playing each individual cut, bruise, rape and graphic detail. 😬
I don’t know about you but my imagination is pretty darn good and I was biting my nails and gripping my pillow pretty tightly throughout. 🫣
The ending while nice and neat is a little too neat for me - it was good to see an end to the Alfred story, and see some HAPPY 🤗 times - the author does leave us a little tidbit at the end where you gasp and say Noooo but we know there is another book so lets hope we find out more. 😮
Overall, I preferred this book to the first one and if you weren’t interested in the storyline of the first book you could easily read this as a standalone there is enough detail about Angel in this to get to know her backstory without having to read book one. I think its worth a read but it is a little long so if you don’t have the time or inclination my recommendation is to dive straight into this one as it is the better book. 📚
Thank you to Good Girl Charlie, NetGalley and the author for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to @saraenniswrites for my gifted copy. Picking up a few months after The Dollhouse ended we are back with Angel and some new characters too.
Full disclosure - I want to let you guys know this is very dark (darker in my opinion then The Dollhouse) and much more graphic. Now, that’s my jam but if you are squeamish or sensitive to scenes of rape proceed with caution.
This is just as thrilling, unputdownable and also gives the reader hope. The characters are just as excellent. I am in love with CB (a new character) she is a bad ass that takes no shit and she made my heart happy. The less you know about this the better. Go in blind, you won’t be sorry. Sara gives us that incredible writing and twisted plot line I’ve come to love. Can’t wait for The Mercy next spring! It feels so long away 😩
• multiple POV • heart pounding and fast paced • great character development
This book picks up nicely after The Dollhouse. The new characters were awesome - especially CB, she is a badass! Also, short chapters for the win. This is my first thriller series to read and I'm loving it. Can't wait for the next book... 😏
🗣️ Thank you to Sara Ennis for the opportunity to read and review your book! All opinions are honest and my own.
** Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion. **
Wow. The suspense in this one is incredible. This book is the sequel to The Dollhouse. Angel finds herself in yet again, another dangerous situation. Other characters from the previous book pop up as well. I really enjoyed this book. Could not put it down. The Mercy is next, coming Spring 2022. I cannot wait!!!
I’m sure all of you have seen the amazing reviews for the first book The Dollhouse. In this sequel, we are back with Angel who finds herself in another nightmare situation when she comes across a bloody and traumatized girl at a truck stop washroom. Get ready for a crazy, wild, adrenaline fuelled ride that keeps your heart rate up. Once again you get a good mix of a crazy plot, some pretty graphic scenes and lots of action. Definitely worth a read!
THE HUNTED picks up a little while after THE DOLLHOUSE ended. Angel is almost 18 and has been traveling with a female trucker when a fateful stop at a rest stop bathroom changes everything.
The less you know going in, the more thrilling your experience will be. And if you still haven't read THE DOLLHOUSE, what are you waiting for? Get caught up now before THE MERCY releases next year!
Two years ago, Angel survived a traumatic event that's driven her to live a more courageous life, despite her physical and emotional scars. Emily and her best friend Harper have big dreams, but a chance meeting with a sheriff changes their path. When Angel finds Emily, bloody and traumatized, in a truck stop bathroom, with a story of abduction and torture, she can't turn a blind eye, especially since Harper is still in captivity. Will Angel be able to help, or will it be too late?⠀ ⠀ THE HUNTED is the thrilling sequel to Sara Ennis's Duality series. Moving on from THE DOLLHOUSE and witnessing Angel's hell, I was relieved to see her thriving and well. Although she was still stubborn as can be, her endearing and relatable nature continued to reel me in. CB, Angel's truck driving partner in crime, was a great addition to the series. Her feisty attitude brought a distinct type of sass to the script that I highly appreciated.⠀ ⠀ The brutal scenes of Emily and Harper's kidnapping were gritty and sinister. Some parts are not for the light-hearted; luckily, I'm not the squeamish type. I like when an author pushes the envelope because sadistic individuals exist in the world as tragic as it is, which leads me to the sheriff and his cackling hyena partner. Or, as I like to call them, the epitome of scum. Sara did a spectacular job in creating a villainous duo that brought the seething hate out of me.⠀ ⠀ Even though THE DOLLHOUSE has a special place in my heart, THE HUNTED was a stellar follow-up. My only criticism this time around is that the ending felt a bit rushed, but it still maintained a heart-pounding deliverance. Also, I would have liked to dig deeper into the sheriff's past, even if I detested everything about him. Overall, Sara's incredible talent is indisputable. The dark, and twisty storylines, hit my thriller-loving heart each time. I am excited to see where Angel takes us next in the third installment!
Thank you Sara and Alicia for gifting me a physical & ebook! —— 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱: 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗢𝗳 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 is the sequel to 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 where we follow Angel, who now has to help 2 other young girls from their abusers. This is a book you need to go in as blind as possible so I won’t offer a synopsis. While The Hunted can be read as a standalone, I would highly recommend you read both in sequence, as this book makes multiple references to characters and events that took place in book 1.
Also, if you thought The Dollhouse was dark, this book is much, much darker in the lines of horror literature. Both books have rampant abuse and violence but this sequel has 2 evil psychopaths who take it up a notch ten fold. So if book 1 made you squeamish, you might want to be in the right frame of mind to read this one. I had no hesitation to give 5 stars for book 1. But for The Hunted, I had to think for a bit, not because it doesn’t deserve 5 stars, it definitely does (and dare I say, was even better than book 1) but because it made me question if I must be a void soul for offering all the stars to such a savage story! 😂
Here’s the thing. This book is so great because Sara has a way of catapulting your attention with the characters’ thoughts and actions. When the bad characters engage, you can taste their viciousness. When the victims narrate, you viscerally feel their fear, dread or conviction to escape, but escape they cannot. Once you’ve experienced this book, expect to face a major book slump with your subsequent reads. That’s how fabulous this book was.
If my review convinced you to check this book out, grab your copy tomorrow on pub day. Watch out for her third sequel 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐲 in Spring 2022!
Angel survived the dollhouse and is now crossing the country with her friend, CB, when they come across another abused woman. This leads the two of them to help her try to hunt down the predator and rescue her friend. At the beginning, it really felt like this book was an afterschool special about the dangers of hitchhiking, and maybe trusting boys. Thankfully, it didn't go too far down that path before the story came into its own. The abuse was a bit too much for me, but thankfully it was always described as having taken place and the reader didn't have to read as it went on. That distance helped keep the book from being too much for me to handle. Although I still feel like Angel and CB had a clue they never followed up on (and it is really bugging me), I enjoyed reading their character development. Angel is still dealing with her past trauma and this installment in the series showed how it has deeply impacted her personality. I hope the next book is equally as engaging.
Thanks to NetGalley and Sara Ennis for a copy of the book. This review is my own opinion.
I loved this book so much! I read it in a little over a day and surprisingly liked it even more than The Dollhouse, which I didn't think was possible! The writing is amazing, and I enjoyed reading it from multiple POVs. CB was a great addition and perfect companion for Angel. Harper and Emily were such strong characters who made you feel their fear and pain. This was an action packed, suspenseful thriller that is not for the faint of heart!
I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series, The Mercy: Angel of Death, which releases Spring of 2022!
Thank you Sara Ennis for the gifted copy of this book and for having me as part of your ARC team!
I had originally decided not to read this book. From the info given about the book I expected it to be gruesome. I decided to read it because I was given th third book o read and review so I felt the need to read this first. Boy am I glad I did! Once again we are with Angle. She is 17 now and living the trucker life with a women called CB. When she find a battered half dead Emily in a bathroom stall she knows she has to help. Once again she finds herself in someone else's twisted world. I love how Ennis writes. You can feel the pain and anxiety of the characters as you glimpse into their lives. Without dragging out horrific details you still know what happens. She can make you grasp the abuse without turning you away from the story. Very much enjoyed this book and glad I spent the money to buy it
Rounding this up to 3.5 stars. The second book in The Duality trilogy continues on with Angel's life after The Dollhouse. This second half of this book is non stop action and true to this writer basically unputdownable.
Angel sees a tortured girl in a rest area bathroom and after her own horrible saga she can't walk away from her. The girls name is Emily and the story she tells is literally insane. Almost unbelievable but Angel's is seeing the brutal damages so it must be true. Only Emily says her friend is still with the monsterous people and she has to get her.
Of course why not go to the police? Like Angel anyone can see this girl was messed up. Emily says they can't go to the police. Her capture is the police. Now what??
Told with the same expert writing style the series continues. I however liked the first one better. It didn't hold the gruesome tales as the first one and was more of a rescue mission. It still provided me with a bingable reading experience. If you loved the first one like me this is a must read.
There is a 3rd book coming in 2022 and you better believe Im on board for it! The ending paragraph set it up perfectly. I love the writing style and Angel.... well all the characters.
Thank you to Sara and Alicia for providing me a gifted copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I want to extend my thanks as I received a complimentary Kindle eBook from the author/publisher as a winner of a Goodreads giveaway. I am leaving this review voluntarily as a courtesy.
I would like to preface this by stating that I have not yet read The Dollhouse, the first book in the Duality series, but after meeting Angel, CB, and the other cast of interesting and likable characters, I promptly purchased the Kindle eBook and plan to read it very soon!
In this cruel and perverted thriller, Angel finds herself drawn into another life or death situation when she stumbles across a young woman named Emily in a rest-stop bathroom. She and CB, a tough and spunky long-haul truck driver with a distinctly Latina feminine flair, take us on one wild ride in trying to save Harper and expose the sick and evil sheriff. The character development was excellent and I felt like I knew them all personally by the time I finished the book. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire read and didn't want to put it down! I highly recommend you check it out and read to see what happens... plus, the end tells us there is more to come and it sent shivers down my spine!
Sara Ennis has done it AGAIN! Phenomenal! Brilliant! I can’t even put into words how much I loved this book!! Maybe more so than the first! Which rarely happens.
Angel is now on the road with her tiny but mighty “guardian”, CB. And this woman doesn’t take shit from anyone. So she’s very “mother hen” when it comes to Angel. So when Angel finds a Emily bloody and injured in a bathroom stall, CB curses the world that Angel got involved. She knows Angel is stubborn and will not listen to her when it comes to following safety measures, and CB has a secret of her own that she needs to handle. But the person that kept Emily and her best friend captive ends up being the sheriff, stakes are even higher. As are their lives.
Definitely not for the faint of heart (there are some parts that may make you queasy). I love how the author went into short but sweet details on each character (I still hate Oatley I mean Oakley), and the settings (albeit I know exactly where the Palos Verdes peninsula is so I have an advantage here). Short and sweet chapters but I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Just W.O.W. Thank you Sarah for my ARC for my honest review. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don’t know where to start with this follow-up to The Dollhouse! The story follows Angel, who survived being kidnapped and tortured by Alfred. After two years, she finds herself encountering a bloody and traumatized girl in a rest stop bathroom by the name of Emily, who tells Angel she and her friend, Harper were kidnapped by a sheriff who tortures and “hunts” women. Angel cannot look away and decides to help free Harper.
Like The Dollhouse, this book is creepy, dark and disturbing. Once again, the author does an excellent job of making you feel like you are right there with the characters. My heart was pounding after every chapter and I literally chewed my cuticles down until they were raw! I also loved the short chapters. I cannot wait for the third book in this series!
Thank you to Sara Ennis for my gifted copy and for letting me be a part of your ARC team.
Thank you @netgalley and Sara Ennis for a copy of this arc in exchange for my honest review.
WOO! This book was a rollercoaster. I loved seeing how Angel functioned with life after her ordeal in the Dollhouse. I love her savior complex and how she used it to help others in this book. I loved the “good” characters in this book especially the trucker. The plot was good but I felt I needed more backstory on why the “hunting” started and not just who started it. I plowed through this book so fast because it had you that drawn in. I can’t wait to read what Angel got going on next. All in all, I gave this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💫
If you have checked out this author yet, I suggest you do it asap. You won’t be disappointed.
Excellent addition to this series - brutal, horrifying, honest and kickass. Angel enters a restroom - only to find a severely harmed woman. For the last few years, Angel has traveled with CB, a truck driver with her own tragic past. Though Angel will never heal, she has gotten by with a routine and friend who accepts her. Finding Emily - Angel can't walk away. Emily escaped horrific abuse at the hands of Vero and Jonny - a local Sheriff. Emily managed to escape - but her friend, Harper, is still trapped. And Emily won't leave her there. Loved it.
WOW! THIS is how you do a riveting, mind-blowing, jaw-dropping sequel!!! I was hooked from the first twisted page to the last! Sara Ennis has DEFINITELY joined my list of favorite authors. I am SO excited for the thrill ride to continue in the next book!!! This series deserves to be at the TOP of your TBR list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am recommending it to all of my fellow "bookies".
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book from NetGalley in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
This is the second novel in the Duality series! We get to follow Angel and her journey after the horrific experience from the dollhouse!
What I loved: Writing Following Angel's story What I didn't love: Felt very YA Internal banter
REVIEW - Writing/Ease of Reading: Sara Ennis's writing is always phenomenal! No doubt about that!
Plot: I'm not a huge fan of series, but I was really excited to get into this one because I loved The Dollhouse so much!
Character Development: this was done well IMO. Angel's character is further expanded and we get to take a peek into how The Dollhouse has shaped who she's becoming. The only hit for me was I never felt like I was reading in CJs perspective, or Emily's, or Harpers, etc... I felt like I was always reading from Angel's perspective and it trickled into the other characters.
Pace: I enjoyed how things started out, but it lost a bit of momentum for me in the middle. I had to put it down and came back to it later.
Level of Invulgence: mehhh, I didn't feel very invulged honestly. I wanted less of the internal banter and more of... something. This book goes more into Angel's character development and journey and less of an action-packed thriller.
Ending: In the ending, we got to read more about the trials based on the first novel and I really enjoyed that. Overall, Sara Ennis will still 110% be an auto-buy author for me and I'd still recommend reading this following The Dollhouse, but I wouldn't recommend reading this as a standalone.
**thank you so much Sara Ennis, for providing a gift copy to review!
This story was gripping from start to finish! I felt my pulse quickening the closer I got to the end and then the last page... talk about a cliffhanger. Although the content of this story is a bit tough to read about, I found the change in POV helped to break it up. I really enjoyed some of the characters carrying over from the first one into this one and the growth that happened there. Quick-paced, gripping, and twisty! The side characters were great and very likable and the villains were intense! Altogether, a great suspense novel that stands out from most I have read.
*SUPER HEAVY TRIGGER WARNINGS*
Since tragedy struck Angel's life, she has worked to piece herself back together. It's only been two years since her nightmare occurred and she has since taken to traveling the country with her new friend, CB. A random pit stop puts a troubled girl in her path, Angel finds herself unable to walk away. When the girl starts to tell her story, Angel realizes she may just be putting herself back in harm's way if she decides to help her. That is, if she can even comprehend exactly what evil this woman is describing. She hasn't even fully recovered from her own tragedy, can she really help this girl escape hers?
After angel survives the dollhouse, she is now riding with CB her friend the truck driver. One day they stopped at a rest stop quick and when angel finds a girl beaten badly she knows even though she's still finding her way through her pain she needs to help.
My thoughts
This book just wow I guess I should have read Dollhouse first but this book had me hooked in the first few pages. I love the relationship and the trust between CB and Angel. Angel has gone through so much and she might be timid and not want to face certain fears but in the end, she faces them head-on. Emily has such bravery that she finds along the way after all the abuse she goes through and just jumps back in to save her friend. Sara is now one of my favorite authors, definitely need to read the Dollhouse and can not wait for the 3rd one to come out. I really enjoyed how Sara gave each one a perspective it made it that much more enjoyable seeing it from all of their point of view. If you enjoy psychological thrillers go read them, they won't disappoint.
I just reviewed The Hunted: Sins of the Father by Sara Ennis. #saraennis #NetGalley
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
When I saw that Sara Ennis had a new book out, I knew I had to add it to my TBR list right away! The Hunter: Sins of the Father by Sara Ennis is the sequel to The Dollhouse, but it's fine to read as a standalone if you didn't read the previous book. The book revolves around Angel, a character from the Dollhouse, who stumbles across a broken and bleeding girl one day at a truck stop bathroom. Emily tells her a tale of horror, starting with being kidnapped by a local sheriff. The worst part is, her best friend Harper is still being held captive. Will Angel decide to help Emily? Will they be able to rescue Harper?
Here is a chilling excerpt from Chapter 1, which is from Harper's point of view:
"I hear him say, "Getting tired of the dark-haired one. No more fight in her. 'Bought time to turn her loose." My pulse quickens. DId he say, "Turn her loose?" Is he going to let us go? Ha. You're a fool, Harpy!' No way can he turn us loose. They can't leave us alive, not after everything they've done to us. For Harper White and Emily Bright, best friends with rhyming names and big dreams, this is the end of the road."
Overall, The Hunter: Sins of the Father is a heart-pounding thriller that will appeal to fans of Karin Slaughter or Dot Hutchinson's The Butterfly Garden. Just like those books, The Hunter is not for the faint of heart. There are some descriptions of violence, gore, etc. that made me feel a bit queasy. Although there aren't any twists in this book, that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book. It's a straightforward thriller with nonstop action from beginning to end. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of thrillers in general, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in December!
Sara Ennis is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I read The Dollhouse a couple months ago, not knowing when I started it that it would be the first of a series. I am so glad we get to continue with Angel's story.
▪️Set two years after the events of The Dollhouse, Angel finds a girl named Emily in a truck stop bathroom, bloody and traumatized. She tells her that she had been abducted along with her friend Harper by the sheriff. He tortured them and set Emily loose to be hunted where she miraculously escaped. Angel must make a choice- turn a blind eye and keep herself safe, or help Emily attempt to rescue her friend.▪️
This was such a page-turner! I love multiple POVs and this was so clear and easy to follow. The torture scenes were held back a bit in this compared to The Dollhouse. You knew what happened to these poor girls but a lot of it was more like a recounting of these events and not in the moment. I think this will make it easier for a lot of people to read.
I loved the addition of our new characters, even the bad guys. They are so interesting! I binged the whole book in a day and a half. Even with the short chapters, I felt like there wasn't really a good place to stop because I had to know what was coming next. The ending was phenomenal and I could feel their terror and physical pain throughout the whole thing.
This comes out December 1st, so be sure to pre-order this and pick up The Dollhouse if you haven't already. Both are 5 star reads for me! Thank you so much Sara Ennis for including me in your arc team! The next installment- The Mercy, will be out in the spring and I am so stoked! 😁
This is the 1st novel I have ever read by Sara Ennis and I can genuinely shout from the mountain top that it WON’T be my last! In her extraordinary book, The Hunted: Sins of the Father, she effortlessly took me into a world full of beauty - beauty built upon devastation, haunting memories, pain and longing in her main characters. But "living their journey" as I read through this fascinating book about strength, determination & grit, I could see the true worth of the scars each carried. Scars that can either hold you tethered to the past or ones that can remind you of where you've been and all you’ve accomplished since then. Knowing full well that without those scars, you wouldn't be you. I am proud of my scars because they symbolize my survival. I have such a deep admiration for Sara for writing her book about transformation from victim to victory. I am going back to read the first book in this series now! Assuredly a 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ novel if ever there was one! Add it to your MUST - READ or TBR lists. Thank you Sara for reminding me that my scars are magnificent. I can't wait to read you next book. 📖 😊👍🏼❤️
Has a book ever given you a heart attack? This book may do just that.
Angel survived the horrors of Alfred and the dollhouse and she is now riding shotgun with her trucker friend CB. One day at a rest stop Angel comes across a badly beaten girl who says she has escaped the clutches of a monster, but he still has her friend. And he's a police officer. Without being able to turn this over to the law, Angel and her friends decide to handle things on their own.
This book is intense. The action begins immediately and does not let up. There are also some pretty graphic descriptions of torture--this is not a light read but it is fully engrossing and you will not be able to put this down. I read it in one day. This is also a book where you are going to be yelling at the characters and the decisions being made while simultaneously rooting for their survival. I cannot wait for the third book. Thank you Sara Ennis for bringing me a series I didn't know I needed, but am now obsessed with.
Book #2 of the Duality series follows Angel after the events of The Dollhouse. She stumbles upon Emily at a truck stop...battered, bloody, and terrified...and she has an unbelievable story. The local sheriff kidnaps, abuses, and then hunts young women for fun and her best friend Harper is still in his possession. What follows is a harrowing narrative, told from multiple POVs, about the efforts to save Harper and bring down the law man who was sworn to protect people.
