This started out as a beautiful and romantic story. The developing relationship between Helen and Jon is very well developed. Both Helen and Jon are very naive and can't see past their nose or why anyone would want to hurt Helen. Helen suspects the correct person but can't imagining them doing such a thing. The story is well written up to the climax, but the ending is too fairy tale and the villain does not get justice for their bad behavior and I felt a little let down.

This is the story of Helen Freeman and Jon Garner. Helen, after losing her mother, secures a cook position at the Olsen's ranch. The Olsens are very well off, and have a daughter named Millie, of similar age to Helen. Jon Garner works as a ranch hand for the Olsens; his parents live rather far away, but he eagerly awaits the day they can live closer, and start a ranch together. Jon and Helen are rather smitten with each other, and spend time talking and getting to know one another. Meanwhile, Millie has set her cap for Jon, and will have none of Helen's interfering. So Millie takes cash from her father's desk and plants it under Helen's mattress, and says she saw Helen going into her dad's office, and when they check Helens room, they find the cash. Helen is ordered to leave immediately, losing her job and reputation, with no place to go. Her friend and co-worker Savannah quickly gives Helen a map and explains that her aunt lives not far away and may be able to help. So Helen walks, in a storm, to the aunt, Mrs. White's house. This is a good and twisted story, and what I like most about it is the honesty and goodness that comes from it. Nice read, hope you enjoy it too.

A Very Good Story

After Helen's mother died she went to work for the Olsons as a maid and cook. There she met Jon, a ranch hand also employed by the Olsons. Jon was immediately interested in Helen, but the Olson's daughter, Millie, was interested in Jon. Millie was very cruel to Helen, always belittling her. When Helen was accused of trying to steal money and fired, Jon and Savannah, Helen's co-worker and friend set out to prove that Helen was innocent. This was quite an undertaking. I loved this story, the characters were very likeable and the plot was interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Great Read

A great story of love and jealousy. A young orphan lady who works for a rich ranching family and meets one of the ranch hands who is a Christian also. Jealousy pops up its head when the rich ranchers daughter, Milly sets her cap for the hired hand, Jon, but berates Helen the cook and maid who Jon is talking with. Milly steals money from her father and plants evidence in Helen’s room to get her fired. Jon resisted Milly and had her tell her parents. A must read to get the rest of the story.

Historical Western Romance

I almost dumped your story when I seen the direction you were taking It with Millie. Was very disgusted by that. The ending was great BUT....... I could not read the extended epilogue. It kept erroring out when I was trying to download. I find this part is very important in finishing the story and was hugely disappointed about this. I do not understand why this is nor attached to the original story. I would NOT buy a book that did not have all of its pages inside it.

Innocent not guilty

Helen is making a living as a maid on a ranch. Jon is a ranch hand and is saving money to bring his folks closer to him. I couldn't imagine living in this time period. We have it easy compared to what they had to deal with. This is a sweet and clean romance . I went through so many emotions .I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Lovely Story

Well, it was about as sweet as a story can be. Appreciated that people were God-fearing but the author doesn't preach to her readers. It is simply a fact. Jon and Helen are kind, generous people. Millie is a spoiled, vindictive person that doesn't really change by the end of the story. The Olsen's were blind to their daughter's potential for dishonesty and scheming. Loved the happily ever after.

“honest heart and a kind spirit.”
What a lovely western it had just the right amount of drama and the challenges that the hero and heroine had keep me completely engaged. The villain of the piece is a real snake and the reason why shows just how selfish some people can be. I liked the main characters they were hardworking decent people. This faith-based book was a joy to read.

Well Written

This is a well written book that takes you back in time. I felt how tired Helen was each night when working for the Olsens. I could relate to the feelings of uncertainty she experienced in beginning an intimate relationship. Reading this book was like being at the movies.

Sweet book

Helen works for the Olson's and so does Jon. Helen is falsely accused of theft and has to leave. I love how Jon stands by her and sets out to prove her innocent.
The book is well written and you could find yourself drawn into the book, rooting for Helen and Jon's friendship.

Wonderful Story

Lovely moving story. I enjoyed the characters very much. Most were genuine and down to earth. Milky was a bit spoiled, but she fit the part of her character. It was hard to see Helen have to feel so betrayed. She had a strong resistance and was able to bear her problems gracefully. Good read and author.

I DNF this book. I tried to read this, but didn't get far into it. It had a Victorian feel with the servants, but had a more retro feel with the way the girls were speaking. I had to pass.
