English name: I’m Completely Clueless About Sockpuppet Accounts Being Unmasked
Cute story about a romance between a professional e-sports player and a famous movie star, but overall it was a bit underwhelming, especially compared to most of the other novels in this genre I've read.
My spoiler-ish thoughts below:
I enjoyed all of the flirting between Shen Qi and Fu Mingyuan when they were only interacting online, but their relationship developed way too quickly once they met IRL. They never even confessed to each other or talked about it their feelings, and all of a sudden they're together? I thought this was super weird. I even questioned whether I accidentally skipped a chapter, but that shouldn't be the case...
A lot of the usual aspects of e-sports / entertainment industry novels were missing, which took away from my enjoyment. Especially with both main characters' prominent positions in their respective industries, I definitely expected more shipping from CP fans and possibly even a supertopic opened for their CP (if nothing else, SQ is shameless to open one himself XP), but there wasn't anything on this front. Most of the story focused on the e-sports world, and there was very little about the entertainment industry and FMY's job as an actor. Also, something I love about e-sports novels is all the hilarious comments from the barrage when the anchor/player is livestreaming, but I felt like the comments here fell short. I'm usually cracking up when I read the livestreaming scenes, but for this novel I don't think I laughed at all.
The way the author described it, I thought FMY and SQ had met previously in their childhood or something, since FMY seemed to recognize SQ pretty quickly after seeing his livestream. I have a hard time believing he recognized his hands and voice so quickly while so many of Angry's hardcore fans didn't.
FMY's brother completely disappears from the story after the first couple chapters except for the occasional CNY family gathering, which I found odd since he's the reason they became acquainted with each other in the first place. And speaking of FMY's family, I still can't believe his parents are so accepting of him and SQ's relationship, to the point where the mom even hands him some adult videos and prepares his bedroom for their first time with roses. I would've liked to see them run into some more problems in this respect, but it was pretty smooth sailing.
The papapa scenes were also a bit cringey. Instead of skipping over them, the author uses some... interesting metaphors, shall we say. First it was the long weapons in their sheaths, then it was gifts and wrapping paper and lollipops, and finally the first time they had sex it was pounding the medicine??? It was funny but in a sad way.
At first, it was a slow romance and I found it quite mature. As they went deeper into their relationship, it started to be childish, but in a good way. The ML is so protective and in a way possessive but is good that he can still have control over his emotions. As for the MC, if I were to face him in real life, I would probably be annoyed by how arrogant he is. Hahaha. The good thing about the MC character is that atleast the author didn’t make him seem OP and he still makes mistakes here and there even during the competition despite him being called God A. I like how the author used the commentator to explain what’s happening in-game, although it takes more effort to imagine.
Danmei e-sport PUBG with a light story with shameless characters.
Honestly, the story is ordinary and the plot is widely used by other danmei. I just laughed a lot when I read I'm Completely Clueless About Sockpuppet Accounts Being Unmasked.
I feel so sad by how boring this book ended up being. I started reading this as a palate cleanser because my bookclub monthly read was really heavy... in the end this light read took me longer to finish just because it was boringly underdeveloped.
The characters were lovely but nothing much other than that :(
edit: oh, and I really dislike how jelous and weirdly possesive they are. Like... Shen Qi can't even hug his apprentice when the little dude was crying his eyes out because his father is a literal piece of shit without Fu Mingyi's consent? Fu Mingyi can't even interact with his fans and sign autographs without Shen Qi being overly jealous and claiming his propiety over FMY? like, my dudes, chill... this isn't healthy.
speedran the last 20ish chapters bc i got bored. i liked the characters enough though. i will never hate a shameless MC lol
the gameplay didn’t rly interest me, but then again this was my first PUBG novel whereas ive read a few LoL ones. im in the same boat as the reviewer who said they didn’t laugh @ the barrage comments. not necessarily a bad thing but if they were funny it obviously would’ve made this a better experience
Notes: It's weird because I usually get engrossed in esports novels, to the point that I lose sleep, especially when the showdowns are so intense. I have no idea why this actually sometimes puts me to sleep. I don't even remember much of what transpired, but I guess it was still entertaining or I would have dropped it.
Fun and cute! The last 20 chapters were a bit less interesting and the pacing wasn't as good. The extras (as an epilogue) were good though. It was a really enjoyable read!
