A Kids Book About Gender

Rate this book
“What gender means to you may be different than what it means to someone else. That's OK! That's part of what makes it so special.”

Gender can be difficult to define, but it’s something that's a part of all of us and who we are. This book isn’t meant to answer all the questions or tell you how you identify. It’s meant to help kids and grownups understand gender and create an open and safe environment for kids to question, experiment, and discover their authentic selves.

Well-done. The art is completely abstract, which makes the book have a more universal appeal. The focus is very tight; we don't learn anything else about Dale, or other people who have experienced gender identity issues. I, personally, did not get much out of it or enjoy it, hence the 3* rating. It might be a five star book for you, though.

This book is written from a personal level, to tell how the author feels about the author's own gender and feelings. It would be helpful for people of any age who are having non-typical gender feelings. It includes a bibliography of books and organizations.

A great, simple nonfiction book about gender; colorful but no pictures.

RBL note: I'm not sure on eligibility because this is a reprint, possibly just under a larger publisher? Content is unchanged, I believe.

I love that this book was so clear about gender meaning different things to different people, as well as gender evolving over your life. It’s a really good starting point for kids.
