Make sure you have everything done around the house because you can’t put this book down
I liked the way it wove the characters in and out throughout the time frame. My marine brother would have loved it as well as my cousin. Enjoy!

Corruption, greed, deceit, lies, dreams, and death describe this novel to a T. This cast of characters has a secret they are hiding, or at least some of them are hiding one. The others are determined to uncover the mystery of why so many have died over the years. It also gives us a look into the film industry, what goes into making a movie, and how those attributes could make or break a film and those involved.
The story jumps around a lot - from the past (1945 or so) to the 1970s to the present. It took me a while to get used to the jumping around and to understand the significance of the scenes from the 1940s since you truly don't understand it until about 3/4 of the way through the book.
This is a fast-paced book with many plot lines and characters to keep up with. The book also shares some pages of a screenplay, but the significance will take some detective work to uncover the truth. I was surprised at some of the twists and turns the book took with the different characters, including those that were running for their lives. It is amazing how much deception there was from the various characters, and it seemed like anyone could be bought or paid off.
I did think that the book was about 75-100 pages too long. Others would probably disagree, but at times there was text that didn't seem to add much to the storyline. I did enjoy the action and the fast-paced novel, and we give this book 3 1/2 paws.

Fall Out was an entertaining and complex adventure! It's told from different points of views with both fictional and actual historical events and entertaining characters! There are a few different settings and they were gorgeous to read about! The details of the events were vivid which really added to the reading experience! The way the author built the suspense and then gave you just enough to keep reading was great! Such a wonderful debut! I can't wait to see what will come next from M.N. Grenside!

As a librarian, I consider myself quite well-read. I was shocked to realize that this was Grenside's debut novel. The intricacy of the plot, which weaved in historical events with fictional ones, had me hooked from the beginning. It is a talented storyteller indeed that can create such a tale of intrigue and action, while taking you all over the world. I kept thinking that this novel would play out brilliantly on the big screen. Until then, I will anxiously await the sequel...please tell me there is a sequel! I highly recommend this sophisticated tale...gripping until the end!

A chilling complex international thriller. An uncompleted film, a missing man and a historical war criminal mystery are all threads of this cleverly constructed plot.
Told from multi-points. of view the story of betrayal and greed unfolds. Glamorous settings and historical events, both actual and fictional, make this an absorbing read. The authentic and relatable characters each have a part to play in solving the mystery.
The detailed story varies in pace as it seamlessly moves between characterisation, flashbacks and adrenaline-pumping action. Full of visual imagery, the story reveals its secrets as if the reader is an eye witness. The use of screenplay interspersed with the prose, adds interest to the story. It provides important clues to the mystery.
The ending is exciting and gives the reader the completion they seek.
I received a copy of this book from Urbane Publications in return for an honest review.

An absolute MUST read - seriously! If you want to travel the world without ever leaving your bed, then this book is for you. The gripping and intricate plot takes you to LA, France, Switzerland, and Vietnam. It's a true thriller and an absolute page turner. The characters are dynamic and incredibly well developed. As the book switches narratives, it feels like you're truly inside the mind of every character, living multiple lives at once - a great escape from the real world! I get easily bored, but the unexpected plot twists, rich historical roots, perfectly described destinations, and fast-paced plot kept me hooked. Every page begged the question, "What will happen next?". You really can't put it down. I did some research on the author and he has a history with film and television production, so the screenwriting feels superiorly authentic due to Grenside's personal expertise. While it is fiction, it's loosely based on true events so it's even more exciting knowing there's a truth behind it all. It's the perfect combination of action, romance, mystery, and history. Honestly, this unique book has it all and would be the perfect Hollywood blockbuster! I can't WAIT for the sequel! 11/10

An original story line with the film industry as a backdrop. The research into detail is fascinating, I shall look at a tin of pipe tobacco in a different way from now on. The characters are engaging and the vicarious travel through the varied places in the story help to take the reader far away from his/her preoccupations. All in all, a good read and I much look forward to the sequel. "Bastion" featuring the fascinating little island state of Malta. Perhaps we might even be treated one day to a film/series, who knows.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I like thrillers if they have three-dimensional characters. (I always think of the poor pale minor characters in Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next literary detective series, when I say this.) Major and minor characters get the royal treatment in this book, which makes for a much more satisfying story. This story is a whopper! Movie business, history, world travel--it has them all. Oh yeah, and violence, too, but an elegant sort of violence to go along with the action. Treat yourself now to this very good read!

Having been in the business myself for over 40 years, it felt similar to many of the adventures I have lived, of course with more thrills, suspense and danger.
The author certainly knows film making and expertly exploits all its intricacies and weaves them into
a highly believable if somewhat heightened reality.
Highly recommended for a fun read, a real page turner.

It has all the right ingredients: a complex, tense plot line, ultra glamorous international settings, believable characters, a treasure hunt, car chases, plenty of sex, violence and death - all cooked perfectly and blended to provide a great literary meal. You get, as well, a fascinating insight into the movie business. This is a better written and more sophisticated book than is typical of the genre, gripping right to the last page.

A brilliant page turning thriller debut where M.N. Grenside keeps us guessing while threading together a complex but all too human story of love, loss, betrayal and death against the background of the movie industry.
Excellent detail throughout shows a master of the craft of suspense in the making who deftly adds elegant minutiae which both enhance the storyline and demonstrate an author with cinematic scope in devising this intriguing yet plausible tale.

A brilliant thriller. The excitement builds up and you can't stop reading. The mystery grows, a bomb revelation is followed by more revelations and you do want to reach the end to unveil the mystery but, at the same time, you don't want to put an end to the excitement. A further interesting aspect is that the story is based on historical facts. Excellent book.

A really great read full of twists and turns, sharp observations and historic detail. You are led on a high octane adventure, zig zagging across the world, and taking in the culture and characters you’d expect in a thriller about the movie industry. You find yourself imagining the movie version as you read the book...and it should be a great movie!

Great read! The author is a real expert on the inside workings of the movie business and has woven a thriller about an unmade movie that is full of intrigue and surprises. It is not a story that involves the local neighborhood but rather takes the reader around the world.

A truly gripping read based in the world of movie making. Vivid and true historical details previously unknown to me were revealed throughout. I found myself hiding behind my hands rather absurdly (as I do in the cinema), so graphic were some of the scenes.
I can see how this book would easily translate onto the big screen and I am really looking forward to what this author has next to offer.

This is a thrilling read that races across the Globe from LA, London, Southern France, Philippines and the Swiss Alps. The complex characters have the authenticity that comes from an insider knowledge of the movie business that debut novelist M.N. Grenside has in buckets. A fun book. I don’t normally read books in English as Italian is my first language but this was a joy. Descriptive, fun characters, great locations and full of clever twists and turns. And I learned a lot about movies and a true dark secret of history.

Absolutely best book I've read in recent times, as the plot unfolds, it becomes more and more addictive you just won't want to stop reading!
