A bright and fun superhero story that normalizes fear and celebrates the potential in all of us to be brave and bold.
Maisie dreams of being a superhero because they never get scared--right? But when she learns that even the biggest superheroes feel afraid sometimes, she realizes that it's perfectly ok to be fearful, and that you can still be brave, too.
Perfect for kids who love Superman, Spider-Man, the Black Panther, and Wonder Woman--and also for kids who just need a reminder of how strong they are inside.

A rhyming easy picture book about getting scared but knowing that even the coolest superheroes get scared sometimes, they just overcome their fears by being brave.
Superheroes Don't Get Scared is the perfect book for superhero fans like Maisie. Maisie decides she wants to be a superhero but thinks she can't because she's scared until dad explains that all superhero's get scared and bravery can be a superpower.
The children love superheroes and I love books that help children understand emotions so this book is brilliant for us. It's great to see a new superhero on each page with a different fear as this normalises it for the children and makes them more open to talking about fears they may have.
The children liked guessing the fear before we turned each page and found it amusing to see the pictures of the superhero once faced with their fears. Whilst the illustrations showed the superheroes fear I like how we got to see Maisie accepting the fear and supporting the superhero where she could as this shows the children that we can help them find their way out of the fear but also shows that we're not all scared of the same things and that no fears are invalid because of that.
Dad's speech to Maisie at the end of the book is a great way to help children make sense of fear and help them understand that fear is normal and we all have fears but it doesn't have to stay that way as you can face your fears. This is a fantastic book on fears that will help young children understand emotions and one the children loved, particularly because of the fun characters, colourful pictures and lovely rhyming text.
Calling all superhero lovers! This new picture book is a fun rhyming read aloud that had me and my littles laughing out loud! It features Maisie a young girl who wishes she could be more like the superheroes she loves and not feel so afraid. With gentle playful rhyme her parents help her see that being brave doesn’t mean that you don’t get scared. I highly recommend this one for any anxious littles who need a little extra help channeling their inner superhero.
My nephews love this book. The super heroes have ridiculous powers like covering people with bogies that keep the kids laughing, and there is a lovely lesson about being brave when you're scared.
Terrific book to encourage preschoolers through grade 2 that everyone feels afraid at times and that fear has to come before bravery can exist. Kate Thompson creates several superheroes with unusual powers such as BoogieBoy who snorts massive clouds of green from his nose to capture bad guys and Burpnado’s mega stinky, strong and loud green burps trap “baddies” in a belchy cloud. But each of her heroes has a fear-the dark, jiggly things or bugs-and each one of them manages to harness some bravery and tackle those very things with their unique gift. Readers/listeners will be entertained and reassured by this humorous, rhyming picture book illustrated superbly with pencil lines and digital color by Clare Elsom.
Such a great picture book about facing your fears. Little Maisie thinks superheroes don’t get scared. Through wonderful read-aloud rhyming text, we learn the burping, zapping, and bogey superheroes do get scared and what they are afraid of.
Maisie’s parents tell her that you can’t be brave without feeling fear first. And then you get to be brave when you face your fear. It's great to read with children, and the adults can talk through what it means to be scared and brave and that it’s okay. Happens to all of us.
The illustrations are brilliant. Funny, humorous, and so detailed by Clare Elsom.
A super funny book with superpowers including humungous MEGA BURPS and bogey blasts that will have kids giggling along as they're read to at bedtime or storytime! A great way to introduce kids to the concept of worries, fears and being brave.
