Brexley’s journey has led her to the most coveted object in the world. In discovering the Nectar, Brexley finds other secrets and truths she was not ready for, ones that destroy everything she has ever known, confronting a power within herself she is not ready to face.
Magic is a balance. Things come at a cost. In saving lives, Brexley destroys her own power, cutting the connection with the infamous legend. When faced with devastating loss and destruction, the fabric of friendship, trust, and love are put to the test.
Trying to forget her grief, Brexley delves deeper into stopping Istvan, uncovering the depths he will go to gain power. She is thrown deep into the underbelly of greed and deceit, leading her back into the depths of hell.
Stacey Marie Brown is a lover of hot fictional bad boys and sarcastic heroines who kick butt. She also enjoys books, travel, TV shows, hiking, writing, design, and archery. Stacey swears she is part gypsy, being lucky enough to live and travel all over the world.
I have no words. The series keeps getting better and better by each book. The action was so good in this one and the cliffhanger, once again was chef's kiss.
Warwick and Brex are so perfect together. I adore Killian. I swear if anything happens to him, I'll flip out🙈😂 The other supporting characters are so well written. You can't help but fall in love with them.
Keeping it short, I can't wait to find out what happens next. AHH I'M SO OBSESSED WITH THIS SERIES 😩😩
Trigger warnings: Panic attack Drugging Kidnapping Degrading Gore Death Violence
Review: I read this book in a few hours and I NEED the next book NOW!!! It was so action packed I constantly felt bad for the characters, they could never have a moment of peace. One thing that bothered me though was the whole mate revelation, it happened WAY too fast. And that their bond was non-existent, GIVE IT BACK-
But aside from that, this book has now taken my heart, cut it into tiny pieces and left them at the bottom of the ocean.
I feel like I’m brain dead from reading this for 7 hours straight on my phone with no breaks. It was totally worth it.
I don’t think I will survive till Blood Lands is released. Until then, I’m going to think about how much this book hurt me daily<3
(Before release date: I KNOW this is going to be amazing, no need to wait giving it 5 stars! I'm literary sitting here WAITING for this to be released, nothing else matters.)
As a whole, this book felt like a bridge in the series to something more… and that’s not exactly a good thing. Even though there were some big revelations in the series, and I’d still give the series as a whole a ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 stars – I think Bad Lands is only a solid ⭐⭐⭐/5 stars.
SHORT PREVIEW: As Brexley breaks free from the lies surrounding the HDF and her surrogate family, more and more truths are uncovered regarding family ties, rebel groups, and even Brexley herself. In this fourth book, revelations from the past will come hurtling forward with stark clarity, and people thought to be long dead will appear in the last place our main characters expect to find them.
THOUGHTS: As this series goes on, I find myself loving the escapism of it because everything is so fast-paced, but at the same time, feeling like I’m waiting for something massive to happen. There are only two more books, and since I’m so deeply invested at this point, I’m going to finish, but I need more to happen in the next book and to feel like I’m really getting somewhere towards the 'final battle' or whatever the ending will really be.
CHARACTER BUILDING: - Brexley: I feel like even though her character has figured some things out throughout the series, she hasn’t really changed much. Her personality remains the same – but what I did like about her was that she had to learn some humility in her physical abilities etc, throughout the book. So far, that hadn’t really happened – because even after she survived Halalhaz (the first prison) a few books back – I think she still retained the fire that she ‘beat’ that prison. - Warwick: It’s really hard for me to like his character. He seems mostly brutish and not smart. That’s not my fave style of MMC. - Killian: Oh Killian. I much prefer his type of dark and broody and I wish this is who Brexley would end up with!! But alas.. she’s with Warwick. Killians' character though, throughout this book – true cunning and so far one of my favorites. - Caden: Will we see redemption for him? He’s a bit simpy for my tastes, but perhaps he’ll pull a Chaol (TOG) and snap out of it. - I will forever love Kek. She is my favorite – no need for further explanation.
THE ‘MEH’ STUFF: - This was not my favorite book in the series. I don’t like when action-based plot elements repeat themselves throughout the series – I want new things to happen, especially when the characters remain the same throughout the series. - I also feel like Brexley and Warwick are so toxic, and it’s REALLY getting on my nerves throughout the book. He seems like the proverbial F-boy, and she has massive daddy issues – driving them together and messing things up.
FAVORITE QUOTE: "You're not the type to stick around for happily ever after. So don't pretend you were ever going to." - I love it when women actually stick it to F-boys 😂
NOTES: - Indie author (which sometimes can be hard to find copies, but - I found a used copy of this one and a few more on Alibris though, so I didn't have to go through Am@zon and put more in Bezos's pocket. That's not relevant to the review but I gave myself a solid pat on the back for it. ) - #4 in series - 🌶🌶/5 – Less open-door s3x in this book, much more action based. - LGBTQ+ representation/themes - TWs: attempted sexual assault
⚜𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄⚜ By now you all the spiel, this is my next Re-read for this series to prepare for Shadow Lands release day. And yes, i still went through every range of emotion available for us miserable humans to feel. It was not pretty but it was gooood. ]|I{•---------⋘⋙---------------•⪼⦕࿅⦖⪻•---------------⋘⋙---------•}I|[ Well 𝐆𝐎𝐃𝐃𝐀𝐌𝐍 this book a dark turn. It was like an ever ending avalanche it just kept going and going, adding to it's size until it became a freakin' bulldozer. 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 everything in its path. How the hell am i suppose to read the 5th?!? I'm honestly asking here. Everything that happened until that 𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐏 𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐄 killed me. As in as was dead and buried nothing left to see here. But then what came next??? 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐅#𝐂𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌 𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐄 brought me back to life. My life mission has been accomplished. I can go back to being dead and in peace now. “Lófasz!” He bellowed, punching his hand into the wall. “Don’t you get it? It’s all you, Brexley.” My name thundered through me, not with magic, but with the way he used it. The way it sounded on his lips, curling over his tongue with power. “Look around you.” He motioned to the door. “With or without the magic, every man here is willing to fight for you, stand next to you, die for you.” He put his hands near my head, caging me in. “And it’s not the bitch’s power which makes us bend. It’s all you.” Ire strained his features. “I won’t lie; I had hoped it was the magic, something that could be broken. Terminated. I tried to tell myself that with every step I took away from you, every hour I stayed away. But fuck…” He leaned his head down, his mouth barely an inch from mine, his form entirely encompassing mine. “It wasn’t. Now the link is gone, and I got what I thought I wanted… my life back, to carry on like I always had.” He lifted his lip with a snarl I could feel flutter through me. “Seeing you tonight made it extremely clear.” “What?” I whispered. “Before you, nothing I ate had any taste.” His mouth almost grazed mine. “All I could smell was death. Nothing but killing made me feel anything. Then you walked into my life.” His hand slid under my jaw. “And I don’t see just gray. I feel, smell, taste, and want to fuck you in every color.” ]|I{•---------⋘⋙---------------•⪼⦕࿅⦖⪻•---------------⋘⋙---------•}I|[ Okay that is it. 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢. I'm gonna go lick my wounds now. If you like reading the same thing 4 times it’s for you
I mean really. It’s super odd that the same things keep getting reused and NOONE giving feed back was like, “hey uh, maybe cut back on the ‘boooom’ distraction, and motorcycles.” ???
There was no exact scene in this book so that was nice, but plenty of booooms.
Spoilers ahead
I don’t hate these books they really keep my attention, which is good writing I just get disappointed that it could be SO much better ya know? Warwick still hasn’t grown as a person, though there was a “my mate” scene, shocker. I feel like we went back and forth all over the place walking so I had a hard time grasping the scope of the world, like is everything within 12 miles? Anywho, we find out more about Brexleys history, what she is (kinda? Not really), about the nectar and all that jazz but it all kinda falls flat. It felt like 4 books of build up for a weird he said she said on the battlefield, absorbed magic, evil queen, drink a couple shots for it to make sense type of explanation, let’s not look too closely at that though, clearly no one is reading these books for scientific magical explanations. Besides that happening pretty much anyone you thought was dead isn’t. Until they are in this book (maybe actually dead?). Caden is still being wishy washy puppy. And we fall into another prison only this time it’s the whole cast of super trained fighters who care and know each other well included. Why they don’t get out? Learn sign language, Morse code (brexleys pulse reminded her of this once so I was hopeful but alas nothing) or something?
Makes no sense to me. Fae power pills or no. They could quite literally just flash mob the place together and dance out.
Lastly it ends on a huge cliffhanger. I should care, be in agony over it but I’m just kinda meh like I was at book 3. Will I read the next book when it’s out? Sure. It’s a good time, just don’t expect much from it.
Hope this review helped you decide to read it or not despite it being disjointed. Couldn’t be helped after my head spinning a little from all the recycling
This message is for Stacey Marie Brown: HOW DARE YOU.
Okay, moving on. If you were worried about the action slowing down in this fourth book, never fear, you’ll be at the edge of your seat the entire time. The way Brown keeps feeding us hints of answers to all our questions while shoveling more questions at us at the same time is honestly impressive to me. I finally feel like I get a grasp on what is going on and where the story is headed and then the rug gets ripped out from under me time and time again. Where this book ends is a nod back to the innocent times early on in this series and you will not be prepared for it. The sadistic side of me was grinning wickedly while the sane side of me was gripping my kindle with white knuckles. Since this is book four in a fast paced series I can’t talk much about any of the characters or plot points without spoiling things but just know it’s just as intense and each book continues to level up.
WHAT?!?! Oh. My. Gosh. I had high expectations going into this book because the first three i LOVED and it STILL completely blew me away. The non stop action and suspense was sooo good!! The world building this one had was so interesting. So many questions got answered. So many twists i didn’t see coming. I laughed in this book. I teared up. AND THAT ENDING!!! Uuuuugh. I don’t even know how to function while i wait for the next book. Such an intense ending. This is my favorite book so far in the whole series. I’m obsessed with so many of the characters in this series 🖤
total filler. but entertaining filler, nonetheless.
nothing really happens in this that feels monumental to the overall plot progression of the series. the previous book was similar in baiting the reader and withholding some information, but this installment takes it a step further and doesnt offer anything new at all.
that being said, im still enjoying the series. i think the characters are what makes me still so invested in this. i liked that brexley and warwick had a realistic hiccup and resolved it in a way that felt organic. i also like how this particular installment gives all of the side characters equal attention. even though brexely is the MC, she shares the page equally with everyone else.
things take a turn towards the end of this, so im interested to see where the story will go in the next book.
Number first, if you're not reading Savage Lands, what are you doing? Cause it doesn't get much better than this in the fantasy or urban fantasy book realm. The world-building, the action, the litany of lovable characters, the NEXT LEVEL enemies to lovers, it's everything you could ask for in a series and more.
We left off with chaos in book 3 only to be plopped right back into it in Bad Lands. To me, every single one of these books has been cover to cover action, whether it be of the violent kind, sexual, or plot moving. In Bad Lands, there are no moments of rest, fluff, or recovery while this book plows right through with another 400+ pages of nonstop fighting.
Ash remains one of my favorite characters for his wit, loyalty, sexual fluidity, and overall commentary in this series but especially this book. Bitzy and Opie coming in a tight second with each hallucinogenic mushroom she eats.
As for Brexley and Warwick, we finally have some semblance of resolution in their relationship, though circumstances threaten to continue to rip them apart. Every time Warwick shouts KOVACS, my chest tightens. Stacey really knows how to write a swoon-worthy man we can all fall in love with from his actions, not his words, which is particularly difficult to do. I feel like with the previous books, we had a lot of sexual tension and negative emotions building, but Bad Lands takes an unexpected turn in their romance and forces these two to face their emotions head-on, for better or for worse.
If you loved the other books leading up to this, you will be just if not more satisfied with Bad Lands!
Omg what is Stacey doing to me. I just can’t. Ahhhhh, full review coming soon when I’ve recovered from that ending!
Actual Review: This is the best book in the series, I said what I said! It starts off where we left off in Dead Lands, Brexley faces the immediate questions that were brought up and more secrets are revealed pretty quickly. She is then faced with more challenges (the poor girl never catches a break) and I feel her development as a character in this book is greater still. Warwick is still our Warwick, honestly love the rough and no nonsense approach he has with situations.
Overall fantastic book and has one of my favourite lines in a spicy scene!!! Just that ending!!! Ohhh whyyyy!?
Bloody. Brutal. The revelations in this book are mind blowing. But somehow there are beautiful moments that make up for it. Reading this a second time, every moment feels more intense and meaningful.
Probably won’t write a more in depth review for a while because I need to reread the next book (Blood Lands) before the finale is released. 😫
the third book was so good and this was actually horrible. it felt like i was on a hamster wheel and im dizzy from everything that happened when nothing actually happened. nothing was new or interesting. brex got so annoying during half of it and the most interesting parts of the story were hardly discussed. you are basically reading book 1 and 2 again but worse. i had high hopes for this book so maybe i shot myself in the foot with this but it had such a potential to be amazing and not the waste of time it felt like.
for the next book i hope the story doesn’t keep going into circles cause this was rough. the new prison part is also dumb af. sometimes too much action in a book takes away from the story.
Can we take a moment to appreciate this author's dedications?😏😈 Savage Lands: To Jason Momoa: If I can't have you in real life, at least I can have you as my book boyfriend.
Wild Lands: For those who curse my name and call me evil... This book won't change your mind.
Dead Lands: For those who curse me, but still keep coming back for more... yeah, I know how you like it!
Bad Lands: For everyone calling me names, I bathe in your curses... with Jason Momoa.
This series may be a little bit predictable and repetitive, but I am addicted to it, and I care for the characters. Not to mention the MC never gets a moment of peace, things are always f*cked up.
Is it bad that I was predicting that the Savage Lands series was a wee bit too good to be true? It's not often that I get to the fourth book in the series without having some issues. In this case, I was devastated because the author failed to disclose that there is more in this series. Before I started, I went to Amazon and Goodreads to research whether the whole series was finished. In a lot of cases, the author will indicate it's 4 of 6 or hint that there is more. I was blindsided...and devastated. If I know that the story has more coming, I go in prepared or wait until they all come out. This time, I finished the story after having devoured books 1 to 3, with very little desire to go on.
The end of Bad Lands has left me feeling like the next book in the series will be a rinse and repeat of one of the earlier books. A fight to the death... blah...blah...blah... all hope is lost... blah...blah...blah. Keeping the characters the same is OK in a series, as long as you change the story up with each instalment. I just didn't get that vibe with the way this one ended.
The only thing I absolutely loved in this one, was the step forward (after 50 steps back) in the relationship between Brexley and Warwick. Finally, we get some honesty and a lot of hate sex which seems to be the way these two work. Each to their own and all that jazz, but it does get a wee bit old after the first 5 sessions of sexy times that come (literally) after a punch up. I know, that sounds really bad, but you have to read it to get it. They're both powerful, strong... Nope, there is no way I could ever make that sound better.
Anyways, I'm sad that I've ended Bad Lands disappointed. Maybe the wait for the next instalment in January is a blessing in disguise. I might even be tempted to go on ... IF ... I know where it's going and if it will keep going.
I really really wanted to like this but I am so disappointed. I keep hoping this series gets better because there is SO MUCH potential. This book was such a let down. The same scenes keep happening over and over AND OVER again.
If I had read this, I would have hated it! It was pretty much the same story as book 1. I felt like I had gone back in time. It was literally the same story line with minor adjustments. I don’t understand the high ratings to be honest 🤷🏽♀️
Bad lands may be my favourite book of the series so far!
This is the 4th book in the Savage Lands series, a New Adult Fantasy based in what we know as Eastern Europe almost 20 years after a war that dropped the wall between Earth and the Otherworlds.
The story continues with Brexley’s and Warwick’s search for: potentially mythical objects, answers to questions, and truths they didn’t even know existing.
One burning question on everyone minds… what is Brexley? I can tell you, Stacey didn’t disappoint!
Just as the first 3 instalments, the story is action packed and the romance was, once again, a rollercoaster!
The cliffhanger at the end of this book was absolutely genius and I will be waiting very anxiously for Blood Lands to see what happens next!!!
I broke; I did not bend. I snapped; I did not bow. They did not twist and cast me into something different. My broken pieces could be forged together. Made stronger.
Finally, the time has come for me to pick this series up again. Especially since the last book in the series is going to be released in a few days.
Anyway, it was better than the third book (which in my opinion was too choked full with action that I got lost in between the explosions). Something changed drastically in this one and I like it. It shook the relationship between Brex and Warwick and honestly, too powerful of a heroine is not always good to have in your books.
The last 20% of the book, major change up happened. Again, another thing I like. Nails were definitely bitten during this time.
It's hard to talk about the book in the middle of a series, you see. But yeah, this one holds up and onto the next one!
4.8 This one was definitely better than the last one. And that was a strong cliffhangered ending. But here is what I am hoping, None of them die.
Highlights: • But with or without my powers, I would bow to no man. Ever again. Women have always had to apologize or bend to their will. We were punished for their weak character. In doing so, we helped them keep us down like pitiful creatures they claimed us to be. When in truth, we were the dragons. Even in death, I’d go down with talons and flames.
•“Warwick has two levels: I don’t give a shit, and I care too much. He keeps himself walled up and protected, only letting a very few slip into his second level.
•There was a power in being primal. Only fulfilling your basic desires and have no consciousness outside of that. It tapped into the basic drive of people, even when we were layered with emotion and context.
•I could see her walls going up. The pain and abuse she had to live through, years of boxing it up so she could keep going on because so many men are insecure assholes who think by “putting a woman in her place,” they are somehow “real” men when all they are is weak and pathetic.
•People considered “breaking” a sign of weakness. I disagreed. Bending meant you could be molded and shaped into something else. I may be full of dents, scars, and trauma, but whatever they did to me, they could not bend and form me into their idea. They turned me rigid. Titanium. I broke; I did not bend. I snapped; I did not bow. They did not twist and cast me into something different. My broken pieces could be forged together. Made stronger.
•Misery could kill a perfectly healthy person if you no longer had the will.
Well, you can consider me totally mindfucked right now. Abso-freaking-lutely MIND. BLOWN. I don't even think that the state I'm in right now could be called a book brain hangover. It's more like a book brain apocalypse. Shit for real went down in this book and my mind is still recovering.
Just when I think that Stacey Marie Brown can't do anything more to my fragile heart, she goes and releases a book like Bad Lands. I really shouldn't be surprised at this point because she does this EVERY. SINGLE. TIME she releases a new book. Here I am letting my guard down for a fraction of a moment and in she comes with a mindfuckery of a book that sets my very soul aflame and rattles my core. It may very well sound daunting when phrased that way, but it is the best kind of high.
Stacey Marie Brown is the Queen of plot twists. You might think you know what's going on and then BAM! The story twists in a way you never saw coming. It is the sweetest, most torturous pleasure each and every time it slams into me. The way that Brown can hold the reader's attention and make the reader question everything is truly worthy of praise. Her writing really sets itself apart with her unique blend of savagery and intensity. She really holds nothing back in her stories and her storytelling reflects the ease with which the words flow from her. Her writing style is so mesmerizing that it sucks you right in. The world-building is truly spellbinding, capturing the reader with its atmospheric pull.
I cannot with you Stacey! From your exceptional world building to the ridiculous cliffy’s. Haha oh the torture. You slay every book! Bad Lands was no different. I can’t get enough of every character in this world. I am obsessed with Warwick and Brexley, and each supporting character has a special place in my heart. Opie and Bitzy never fail to provide hilarious commentary. So many questions are answered yet so many new ones arise. The intensity, the chemistry, the family bonds. I’m here for it all! Job well done love!!
Hi! Im in pain. I am writing this as a shell of my former self 🥲 I love this series so much, thank you so much for writing this Stacey truly I have no thoughts just tears and pain ❤️
This book is truly addicting, brutal, and mind blowing ! And absolutely essential.. at first, it answers a lot of questions (but brings other of course) .. It starts more or less calmly but the more we turn the pages and the more we are caught in a dark whirlwind… the last part is wonderfully dreadful … a real roller-coaster ! The romance is less spicy than dead Lands but with good reasons and takes a long-awaited big step forward.. you will not be disappointed with the revelation ! Warwick is formidable ! I loved every seconds of it ! I highly recommend it !
Halálház'dan Věrhăza Hapishanesine de düşmezsiniz be!
Nektar ve Brex'in bağlantısı biraz zorlama geldi.
Bad Lands is the 4th installment in the series and this book completely blew me away! I don't want to say too much as I don't want to spoil too much for this one. But it was intense, full of action, and very plot-driven, I loved seeing what brings the couple back together, and that ENDING, I am not sure how I feel about it. It kinda feels like similar to book one but I will save my doubts on that until I read book five, but even if it is then I will probably be okay with it as its addictive. I do apologize for the short review folks.
This book… OMG!! This series quickly sky rocketed to the top of my all time favorite fantasy series and book 4 does not disappoint. Be prepared to lose sleep to finish this book. We get some answers we’ve been asking through the first three books in this series, but be prepared. Book 4 leaves us gasping & asking SO MANY MORE QUESTIONS!
I have loved this story, and watching our amazing heroine Brexley find out who she is & why she is fighting for the people she loves. And will even go to the brink of death to save them.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. And a HUGE thank you to the author!!
This was my favourite book so far in the whole series! So much emotion and I love how involved you are with the characters that you feel so bad for them! So well written! I cried a couple times in this one!
