Winter Kisses at the Homestead Inn is a snowy, suspenseful romance about Emmitt, a billionaire heir trying to leave his playboy reputation behind, and Sloane, a private investigator who comes to the inn under cover and ends up caught between her assignment and her growing feelings. This is Book 4 of Kimberly Krey’s Billionaires in Hiding series, and it’s described as “Flirting with the Enemy.”

There’s a smart emotional tension to this story that really resonated with me. Sloane’s role as an investigator hiding her real motives adds depth and conflict. She’s not just there for romance, but for a purpose, and that purpose threatens the trust she builds with Emmitt. According to Goodreads reviews, their relationship starts awkwardly but grows in a believable way, as Sloane comes to care for Emmitt even while keeping secrets. Emmitt’s transformation from carefree playboy to someone considering a more settled, meaningful life feels genuine, and Krey writes his internal struggle with both vulnerability and charm. The winter setting at The Homestead Inn amplifies that warmth in a cold season: the inn feels like a refuge, and the physical closeness sparked by the snow and the holidays heightens both the romance and the stakes. That said, the “enemy” angle turns out to be more about conflicting missions than outright betrayal, so if you were expecting a full-blown thriller, the suspense might feel moderate rather than high. I rate it four stars for its emotional clarity, well-drawn characters, and how Krey balances romance with intrigue; I’m holding back a fifth star only because some of the suspense felt more comfortable than edge-of-your-seat.

Another great story in the series. I loved Emmitt's and Sloane's story. Clearly they start off on the wrong foot, but as they warm up towards each other it is beautiful to see, and the story is full of warm, love, and swoonworthy moments. This series has not disappointed at all.

Exciting plot line

As usual Kimberly Krey has written a fascinating and exciting romance with plenty of suspense. This plot is so twisted, I was sure everything would fall apart. I couldn’t see a way to find a happy ending. But I’m happy to say it happens. Winter Kisses does indeed end with a happily ever after. Well… until the true end. I love Sloane and Emmitt and am glad they like like each other.

This story is part of a series and tells of a family who must hide from the mafia due to their grandfather’s connections and past. They run an inn, an inheritance that is also their residence and source of income, although they are well-off and don’t need it. It does supply housing for all of the siblings and their new spouses and is a good cover for their new identities. In this book, Emmitt’s story gets told. This author writes clean romance and this series has some suspense as well. I’ve really been enjoying reading the entire series. I love the originality of the plot and all of the different characters are fun to get to know as well.

Let's hear it for book 4 in this series and Emmitt, who finally gets his very own love story! We're working our way through this whole family of siblings and while each sibling gets their own love story, there is a slow, overarching, building sense of danger. It's a cool thing and I really like it. It keeps me coming back for more!

I think Emmitt and Sloane have a great build to their relationship. It felt natural and believable. I settled in with the easily and quickly, even knowing how it was all going to blow up. This Duran family is resourceful and resilient though and they know how to support and help each other. I really like that strong sense of family in this series.

As stated above, this series is best read in order. They are all in KU if you have that which is where I picked up this book. This author is a favorite of mine and I love when she adds some suspense and danger into her books.

This story is part of a series, and I LOVED this as much as the rest!! So each book's main character becomes my favorite!! This is Emmit's story, but it involves Ava as well, as she is the one who is in danger of being found (these people are basically in witness protection). So Sloane is a French PI and she is looking into Ava to try and find her. Emmit is her in to find it out, she is portraying someone to watch him fly his helicopter for extra hours before being allowed to give tours. Anyway I wanted to dislike Sloane, and I could not! The way this all plays out... well you just have to read it. As Always Kimberly Krey weaves a GREAT story, makes you fall in love with the characters, she keeps it clean with out losing the heat, and a little suspense in there!! I did not want to put it down, and I cannot wait for the next installment!!

A good clean contemporary romance with a little suspense: Sloane (private investigator) arrives at the inn with the cover of being a flight instructor after she instigates a fake mandate for additional flight courses for Emmitt. Her mission as a private investigator is to find Anna Fielding (Ava), hired by Anna’s abusive ex-boyfriend. What she didn’t expect was the chemistry and attraction to Emmitt. Will she still expose Ava (Anna) and jeopardize a new relationship with Emmitt?
The continuity of the characters and series are great with good suspense. I really enjoyed reading it and would highly recommend it/series.

This was so good! I was hoping that Sloane wasn't a bad person. I love how Richard took awhile to come around and then he was all in. Their love story is so great. I love all of these characters! Thanks, Kimberly, for a great read.

This cast of siblings is very intriguing, mysterious and so much fun! It's Emmitt's turn for love and Sloane's secretive sass is just the thing to get the sparks flying.

I love how resourceful this family is. While they may not have always been close, circumstances have caused them to build a great relationship with each other and I love watching them each grow and find their true selves. But most of all, I love watching them settle into a life full of work, hope, and love.

Emmitt is a helicopter pilot and the sizzle with Sloane is destined to crash and burn with secrets galore. I enjoyed both characters so much, loving each interaction. True to Krey fashion, there are many facets to this story and twists and turns that kept me wondering how it would all work out when everything seemed so doomed.

Entertaining, intriguing, and swoony--all the makings of a fun story.

Sloane Bardo is a private investigator looking for Anna Fielding. When a report come in to Wren, Anna's ex, Sloane is sent to find Anna and bring her to justice. She arranges for a notice to be sent to Emmitt that his newly acquired helicopter pilots license is mandated to have further class time and air time and Sloane comes in undercover as the pilot trainer. As Sloane and Emmitt spend more and more time together, Sloane probes into Emmitt's life to see if he has had a relationship with Anna Fielding. In the mean time, Richard, Emmitt's oldest brother and Ava (previously known as Anna Fielding), were literally just married and are at the Homestead Inn's honeymoon cottage because of their need to stay hidden. When a phone call comes into the Inn, they stay in hiding while the threat is uncovered. Emmitt is turning over a new leaf and trying not to be a playboy and in the process, falls head over heals for Sloane. I love this story with great characters and just the right amount of suspense.

Only to have an undercover investigator come to the inn on the pretence that one of the owners needed to finish his extended hours on his helicopter license.
