Now THIS is a book that just keeps sucking you in! Received an eARC short section of this book, and IH MY FOD it's so good!!! I'm pretty picky when it comes to witchy fantasy, as I find a lot of them really corny and the tropes reused over and over, but this book is absolutely stunning! I was not expecting at all to be so jazzed about this. I was intrigued when I saw the author telling a short synopsis of it in their TikTok, but rarely am I so sucked in after the literal FIRST sentence. Bravo! I will absolutely be purchasing the full length book if not chosen to receive one free. Thank you for my newest book obsession HAHA!
Loved the diverse range of stories in this collection. There was something for everyone. Each of the tales was well crafted and I definitely want to read some of the authors again. It’s rare to get an anthology where the stories don’t become a bit repetitive after a while but this one kept me interested the whole way through.
I received an ARC of this and have to say that even though it's short and has a few typos, it's a wonderful introduction to a new world and some fun characters. I can't wait to read more about Claire and Kalob!
I read Faith Gibson's The Pirate Spell and Curse of The Blood Hunter Moon by ND Tesa.
The Pirate Spell is about Lilly and Dominic. I first encountered them in Gregor of the Stone Society. Their story was greatly anticipated. Faith did not disappoint. Loved learning about how they got together. Would have loved to learn a bit more about them but understand these stories are limited.
The second one I read was Curse of the Blood Hunter Moon. It was ok. I like my stories with at least a little steam. The story itself was good. I'm hoping to find the time soon to go back and check out the other stories.
I have read the short story! I'm hooked, so ready to read everything this author has! I don't want to spoil anything about this story, but it won't take you long to get hooked and could read for hours
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of the black backed mirror and I can’t wait for the release to read the rest of it! It was a very cute and engaging story.
*I received an ARC copy of the black backed mirror*
I loved short story and am already hoping we get more of the story! It was such a unique story line and I absolutely love how you test to see element affiliation!
received an ARC copy of the black backed mirror Such a fun quick and clean read! I wish it was longer and more detailed to answer all my questions (what happened to Kalob's teacher?, Does the mirror play a bigger part?, What happened during the 1 year time line leap?, 1 year seems like a long time to with hold a love interest and then BAM it hits them so quickly! ) But is a short story, so can understand why it had to leave so much out. Hopefully someday Jamie will write the full length story! If all the other short stories in this book are as good as this one- I'll keep the five stars!!!!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of The Black Backed Mirror by Jamie Dalton.
This little story was sweet and charming and lovely for the spoopy season. I do think it suffered a bit by being a short story as opposed to a full novella or novel. The characters were charming but rather one dimensional as they didn’t have the space to be fully explored. I felt similarly about the plot. It was all very surface level but I think that was simply a product of the length.
Overall, though, I did enjoy it. It was a fun story and very entertaining. The ending was very sweet and I was glad for it. Definitely would read more of this authors writing.
I received an excerpt of this anthology as an ARC, The Black-Backed Mirror, by Jamie Dalton. I really enjoyed the story. It was cute and pacing was good. There was a time jump, but I also realize there is a limit to words for shorts used in anthologies so I wasn't mad at it, but would love to see her maybe expand this story in the future to see what happened during that time! I did send some feedback on a few non-story related things, but overall enjoyed it. The descriptions were good but not overdone as we can see with fantasy sometimes. The whole story was very fresh and not one I've seen a million times (not that tropes are bad). And the ending left me feeling warm and fuzzy! Definitely a good Halloween release!
I recieved an arc copy of "The Black-Backed Mirror" by Jamie Dalton. With this small sample I fell in love with the main characters and I can’t wait to read the rest of the story. It started out by jumping right into the current time line of the story, which is my preference. It was very well written and didn’t go to far with the details, allowing me as the reader to imagine the scenes the way I would see them. If the other stories in this book are as great as this one, it will be an absolutely amazing book. Jamie did an amazing job!
**recieved an arc copy of "the black backed mirror" by Jamie Dalton ** This is an absolutely cute story. While there are a few grammatical errors and time-line jumps, it is worth the read. And I'm sure these things will be corrected before publication. I love the idea of the mirror. Wish there was a bit more interaction with it to really solidify the characters together.
I loved this book. I received an arc in exchange for an honest review. I have read novellas in the past but this felt more like a prologue to a story than a novella. Hopefully more to come
I received an ARC of the short story, Black Backed Mirror by Jamie Dalton. This was a cute short story! Wished it could have been longer to hear details of Claire's past and more interactions with Vivian at the inn (love interesting secondary characters!). But even without those it was a warm (not a pun!) cozy read. I look forward to more stories from Dalton and look forward to the other stories in this anthology that inspired this amazing cover.
I received an eARC copy of one of the stories in the anthology: The Black-backed Mirror by Jamie Dalton. If the rest of the short stories are like this one, this anthology will be amazing! Looking forward to getting the complete anthology on the 31st!
I was lucky enough to be given an ARC of The Black-Backed Mirror by Jamie Dalton. The story suffers from the limited word count as there are many things I as the reader would have liked to have seen. The world-building is light, and it is dialogue heavy--all functions of the word count I feel. It makes the characters and plot a bit too one dimensional, as another reviewer has said.
BUT if you are looking for a quick read where a woman learns to heal and accept her worth after an abusive start in life, you will love it! And it does make me want to read the rest of the Anthology.
I read one of the stories from the anthology The black mirror and it was amazing. The author is so talented and the story flows smoothly and has all the elements that you would one, romance, adventure, suspense. The only problem was I wanted more after it was over. Jamie Dalton is an author to watch and I can't wait to read more of her work. (I was given an advanced copy of this short story and chose to review of my own volition).
So i recieved the Arc for the black backed mirror by Jamie Dalton and have to say i was hook from the start Claire and Kalob short story has me wanting more and i cant to read what happens next. This first book i read by Jamie Dalton. And it wont be the last. This is great short sstory if you need a quicky read.
I received an arc copy for the black backed mirror and I really enjoyed it. Despite it being short I was invested in the characters and would have enjoyed reading a full novel about them. The scenes were very descriprive I could picture the places they went very easily. Definitely worth the read, I am excited to read the full anthology.
Having already read her novel Follow the Hummingbird, I picked this up primarily to read Elena Carter's story The Secret Spell. It didn't disappoint. I'm looking forward to seeing The Secret Spell developed into a novel or two. Great characters, interesting premise, and terrific writing. Bravo, Elena!
I received this as an ARC for the Black Backed Mirror. Quick version sweet, sincere, fun magic, positive friction, and the one bed trope.
The mc's past was definitely what kept me reading and I enjoyed finding out, seeing the changes. I do wish there was more so that we could learn more about Kalob but this is a fun quick read.
I really loved these characters. It was a perfect set up into their full world. Im very interested in how their magic comes to be! Kalob definitely has more to his story! Excited to read more from this author!
I received an ARC copy of The Black Backed Mirror and loved Claire’s character and her hopes to overcome her past. The love interest is delightful and charming. I hope to give a more thorough review when the full book becomes available.
I read the Black Backed Mirror by Jamie Dalton. It was pretty good. I’d love to read it as a fully fleshed out book, just to learn the backstories of the MCs! Definitely recommend
I had the pleasure of getting an ARC copy and I definitely need more details this was delightful tease I want to know more about both characters and their back stories
