Vampires don't get happily ever afters.
Jack Valentine finally has her shit together. She has a great job, great friends (well, one at least) and a girlfriend whom she loves, even if she can't work up the courage to tell her that yet. Unfortunately, she also has an archnemesis who's about to punish her crimes in the worst possible way: by making her spend time with him.

When the body of a human judge is found in a locked library, there's no denying that she was murdered by one of the Silver – by a vampire – and the evidence points worryingly close to home. For Jack and her team, it's becoming increasingly hard to separate allies from enemies.
With conspiracies on every side, the simmering tensions in Silver society are about to come to a head. As usual, Jack intends to be right in the middle of it. She does like it when things get messy.

R A T I N G: 4.5 stars to Judgement Day! ★★★★

A series that’s not afraid of its own belonging in the bookish arena of fanged urban fantasy. The slinking vampires, the edging atmosphere, the untimely love skirmishes, the intrigue, the crime, the mystery, I very well might be in love with it all. Or maybe that’s just Killian Drake.
A propulsive second installment that has me half-starved not for blood, but for a plot that only thickens with evasive and well-maneuvered intrigue. Josie Jaffrey has a way of delivering a story that’s almost utilitarian in style and voice but completely on the ball with an understated allure that shapes up a plot I never, not once, wanted to abandon. Thankfully, I was in a lucky enough position to read Judgement Day in the wake of May Day and it picks up steadily where the first book ends - honestly, I couldn’t restrain the laugh that needed to bubble up. Ms. Valentine certainly knows how to make an entrance. An ominous undercurrent lingers through and chases on the heels of a continued, atmospheric mystery.
Jack - the mess - Valentine is back for round two in her pursuit for guiltless justice in Judgment Day. Following on from May Day , this second addition to the Seekers series eclipses the space of four months and settles right back into this preternatural urban fantasy. A fitting title for what I should coin a game-changing shift that revises everything Jack and her fellow Seekers stand for and against, all they know as unassailable law.
Still, Jack has to reap the judgment of literally fraternising with fire. Because yes, she’s back in the not-so-humble abode of killian Drake, unmoved in the face of her judicial punishment after a worthwhile scheme that she’s definitely not sorry for. In her defense, she had a good reason, but that enjoyable sway in deliberate interest lands her in probation with her notorious frenemy. One who holds her fate in his wily hands. It’s a good thing her word isn’t law, but in this case, Killian Drake’s is.
A day in the life of Jack Valentine isn’t boring, that’s something she can say for herself. She’s more of a disorderly deviant than a team-playing protege but her guild are her people, her ilk in a world spoiling with disquiet. The Seekers are pulled further into blindness and out of the loop while the players are on the move; while secrets and political strife swirl in the arena of old-age Silver.
Christening her opposers with assumption and conjecture gives Jack something to fight against, but If there’s anything she hates more than her tally of antagonisers, it’s her own defenselessness. That just won’t do for this fresh-faced Silver in spite of all that holds her pregnable in a country of fellow blood-drinkers who outlive her by ancient numbers. She may have attracted the vitriol of the big contenders but she’ll humour the snubs and she’ll definitely be offended by the contrary. If you just happen to be one of nature’s natural thorns, why not barrel your way through the rose bushes while stabbing the waste on the way down? That’s Jack in a nutshell.
It’s not all mellow sailing in lovers utopia for Jack though. She might have won the lottery by snagging herself an uber-intellectual girlfriend but the mini-fractures are showing, made bigger by the unscrupulous, meddling baron that stows away behind the doors of his mega-mansion. He’s the uninvited third party to Jack’s budding relationship, and try as she might, she can’t shove the recall of their hasty tryst and all that came after out of her think tank and into her residual cache of ‘no space for Killian Drake’. Far away from daylight and the first relationship that means something to her. Their history of sparring and snubs precedes them, so Jack’s about to do what history does so devilishly well: repeat itself.
I must divulge. I’m presently in the thrall of book hangover territory. I had to make a real effort to tamp down the giddy fangirl in me after reading this, it was just so good! Well-written and teeming with May Day’s current of investigative mystique and fermenting secrecy that charts the ambling, inquisitive forecast; it’s as curious as it is queer, as suggestive as it is deviant, as character driven as it is a rolling gambit. The plot drives on and the diverting characters move with it. And that ending (everything was knowingly leading up to THAT ENDING ) made me rue the valley between me and the arrival of the next book. I savoured every bit of Judgement Day , those morsels stashed away into the recesses of my scattered thinker
I had set voyage on the ship I wanted to sail with Jack, Tabitha and Killian, but you get to make the discovery all on your own. Killian Drake is still the unknown. He’s got the whole non-committal but elaborate aura wreathing him and the smoldering unsaid moments between him and Jack elude to what might unwind (what I hope will unwind). The will-they-won’t they strikes out for when will they. Everything between them feels forbidden and unmapped but strangely natural like two separately lit flames that lean in the space of each others’ heat.
Add in the fact that I love the biting enmity and barb-slinging one-upmanship that’s routine with the energising power play of enemies-to-potentially-something-else and you’ve got the friction that keeps on giving, the provocation that snaps the passion back into place every time. I loved it. It’s exasperating and characteristic as much as it Is amusing and even charming. You can’t access the person behind the veneer with the Killian entirely but the pieces you get are worth planting yourself in his favour. Either Josie Jaffrey is fooling me so brilliantly, but Killian Drake has my faith big time for what might post-date Judgement Day. Killian Drake and Jack Valentine have some killer on-page chemistry.
Jaffrey’s Seekers series holds a vessel of potential. She has an underemphasised talent for keeping a reader invested without the overstated, inflated pull of dramatic storytelling and theatrical prose. The writing, just like irreverent Jack, is without preamble. It’s completely moreish with simplicity. With the first open blood bar set to open in In Oxford and another death that puzzles the Seekers into trepidation, there are question marks sprawled all over Oxford and its high society.
But what takes first place for concern is a lurching interior revolt that pierces Silver hierarchy and leaks out into civilian casualty. Jack and her fellow vampire detectives are out of their depth as a batallion that stands between open-wide Silver exposure and the camouflage of their entire race. You can’t outmatch staunch tradition. You can’t pit a cluster mice against a nest of snakes. You can’t lock horns with a type of beast forged by an age of hibernation.
Everyone is playing for self-involved interests and the tide of closeted dissent, open division, divided allegiance, manipulation, betrayal and moving threats frames a stalemate that intensifies the coming of a day for judgment. You can appeal for the truth but you can’t lay waste to a lie that stings where it hurts and Jack’s right at the periphery as much as she’s in the middle of what’s about to take shape.
This series brandishes a body of work that reads amazingly well. The elemental phases of the moving story inspires fresh curiosity, shifting conjecture and a palpable interest that pulls forth and pushes back menacingly, temptingly and a little bit savagely. Double-bluffs, double-guesses, herd disunity, micro-feuds, fraternising with friends, finks, foes and recalcitrant desire, all on the heels of another grisly investigation that sits at the foreground of a cloak-and-dagger backdrop. And those slippery vamps orchestrate so well.
I’d blissfully let myself believe that this installment had the staying power to last forever and that rosy hope cunningly packaged my artless undoing when I ruefully ran out of pages to read. It’s been so long since I’ve steeped in the vapour of a series long enough to care about what happens next. While vamps aren’t my favoured creature of choice, I adopted their species-specific quirk because my senses were heightened, sharpened and fully-tuned to Judgment Day! Even the half-hearted and most well-read of bibliophiles should read this.
Josie Jaffrey is splaying her cards in the most impelling ensemble and even if she’s really a deer in headlights stumbling her way through the indie graft, her consistency and creative sense precedes itself. She’s a dark horse galloping her way into the literary fray, kicking up dust in a space made for her. Sometimes desperate and taut, sometimes darkly comical, angsty and atmospheric, sometimes dour and sultry. Jack’s brain has fashioned the leads into a picture that reckons a blood war and only the first few drops have fallen. I stretched this book out for all it was worth and I’m as frayed around the edges for what’s to come.

I flew through the pages and it still hasn't left my mind. Mainly because of how it ended! (That was ... something!)
Judgement Day is the second instalment in the Seekers series, an urban fantasy/paranormal series. It's one of the few Vampire books I read and loved. Each book has a mystery element, too, as we follow Jack who is a Seeker, basically the vampire police, that has to solve Silver crimes. Although the Silver have a slightly different take on what a crime is ... which is a part of how we left off May Day.
I was sucked right back into the story from page 1 and honestly? I couldn't put it back down until I had finished it. I flew the pages and loved all the tension.
Jack is a brilliant main character because she is stubborn, determined and moody and sometimes does stupid things because of it, but she can acknowledge that which I greatly appreciate. And she is very sassy and sarcastic, especially around the Baron (I live for this!) Another plus in this second book was that we got to explore Jack's (and a few others) more vulnerable sides. Some scenes really tucked on my heartstrings.
The way the relationship between her and Tabitha progressed was super realistic and got super ... let's say interesting ... towards the end. Definitely didn't see that coming.
Talking about characters, I think I've already said that in my review of book 1 but I quite like Boyd. We got to see another side of him in this book and I really enjoyed that. The whole Seeker team is so fun to read about because they are all so different from each other and that makes for some really fun scenes.
The stakes got higher in this and I was here for that. Jack didn't only have to solve a murder with her team, keep the relationship with Tabitha going while having to deal with Drake but also something bigger. And I don't think we've seen the end of it yet. Colour me excited!
I already knew I would enjoy Judgement Day but, as did book 1, it surprised me how much I loved it. And I keep thinking about the end and I am not okay with having to wait!! I need the next one.
If you love a unique take on vampires, mixed with some murder mystery with complex characters, lots of tension and witty banter, and a writing style that grips you from page one ... this is for you!
I've also read the first book in Josie Jaffrey's other series, The Gilded King, and really enjoyed it but I have to say, I prefer the Seekers series!

Jacqueline “Jack” Valentine has been a Silver (vampire) for twenty years. She’s still new to this world, but she is an effective Seeker (paranormal police and tidy-upper of human messes). Her astute observations and unwillingness to let things slide means that she has come to the attention of several powerful members of the Silver community. Judgement Day is the second book in the Seekers series by Josie Jaffrey. Jack is back with another case of a human killed by an unknown vampire. There is further evidence of something bigger at play. The victim is the human descendent of Jack’s captain, and the more they look into the murder, the more questions arise about what is really going on.
I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment. Jack has a bad habit of acting before she thinks, but she always has the best intentions. Likewise, she tends to express all of her feelings with actions rather than words and it was really sweet to watch her relationship with Tabitha evolve. Drake isn’t ready to let her go though, and he runs interference at every opportunity. Only, Jack continues to be purposefully ignorant about their connection. This is another strong paranormal investigative story, but there is so much more going on behind the scenes. Jack is still a young Silver and, based in Oxford, they have their own little community. The shadow of the Solis Invicti and the leaders of the Silver is looming closer. You get a definite feeling that things are ready to explode at any moment, and Jack’s sense of who she is and those she trusts is about to change. Judgement Day was so much fun, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series by Josie Jaffrey!

I read May Day (book 1 of the Seekers series) towards the end of 2020, for a blog tour, and I absolutely loved it. I was immediately desperate for a second book in the series, so when I heard Judgement Day was being released, I was so excited! I had extremely high hopes for it, and Josie Jaffrey certainly delivered!
Once again, I have to take a moment to mention how impressed I am with the way Josie always includes trigger warnings in her books. It is important, and it is something that I think everyone should be doing!
From the start of the book, we dive straight back in to the story, and the crazy world of Jack Valentine. Nothing will ever go smoothly for Jack, and having to put up with Killian Drake is one of her main problems. The relationship between them is a complicated one, and despite the fact that I’m not really a huge fan of romance, I am LIVING for their sexual tension and electricity. I can’t be the only one who is really routing for them, right? But this relationship is causing so many issues for Jack, both personally, and professionally, just when she thought her life was on track.
The continued downward spiral of the Silver society is so clear, tensions are running extremely high, and are pretty much at boiling point. When the body of the human judge is discovered, after being murdered by one of the Silver, it is only a matter of time before everything explodes, and you can guarantee that Jack will be right at the heart of it. The case is certainly one that keeps you on edge, especially with all the additional drama on top, and it makes this book impossible to put down. Every new discovery or piece of evidence just creates more questions, and I needed answers!
Jack Valentine has become one of my favourite protagonists, she’s just so much fun to read! She’s fierce, sarcastic, and she takes no shit from anyone. I love her no care attitude, even though it often gets her in to trouble. I would very much like to be friend with Jack, I doubt there would ever be a dull moment. She’s not afraid to run head first in to danger if she needs to, or if she knows that that’s the only way to get answers, and I really admire that. She puts herself right in the heart of the danger in Judgement Day, and it has you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. I am so invested in the characters in the Seekers series, and it makes the danger in the story so much more thrilling and exciting, because I genuinely care about what is going to happen to them, especially Jack.
There were so many unexpected twists to this story, and an absolute bomb shell was dropped on Jack that I never saw coming. This book really is a wild ride, and I loved every second of it! The Seekers series is becoming a strong favourite of mine, and Josie has definitely claimed herself a spot on my list of favourite authors. I am already desperate for another book in the Seekers series, and I NEED MORE JACK VALENTINE IN MY LIFE!

Judgement Day is the second installment of the Seekers series. Seekers are vampire agents who try to keep the word about vampires spreading to the human population. They help clean up messes and figure out murders by vampires.
The book starts off a little bit after the ending of May Day. Jack is happy with her lovely girlfriend. Or she wants to be. But the jealousy her girlfriend is skyrocketing at the mention of Killian Drake, Jack archnemesis who she is attracted to that came to a heading in May Day. I really wanted Jack to be happy with her girl but it was just way too obvious what was going on.
In the midst of her very personal problems there is an opening of the first blood bar in Oxford and a body found by a human judge, clearly murdered by one of the vampires. I found this plot interesting because a lot of things started to fall into place. From the first book as well. Things that didn't seem to fit or weren't quite wrapped up got some kind of an answer in this book. I do like it when books keep carrying things over like that.
I enjoyed Judgement Day because of that. I felt lke I was fully wrapped into this world, easy to settle back into and be dragged along the story while there still being enough room for my own thoughts of what was going on. It was a strong installmen. A lot of the questions marks I still kind of had at the end of May Day I did not have. I knew exactly what I was getting into.
As always it was a pleasure to follow Jack around. She might not always be the easiest person but she genuinely cares about the people around her. Like with what happens to her drinking buddy in this book. Still supporting her best friend even though he'd love to join the elite that she hates. She cares about them so I as a reader care.
Jack and Killian had less hot scenes in this book because Jack kept the walls up and Killian actually respected that. Sort of. But instead of sexy sniping at each other we got taking each others stuff so the other had to come after them. Ah young love, haha. It sounds childish but it just fits so well for the kind of relationship they have with each other. And Jack is just naturally incredibly petty like that.
All in all Judgement Day was a fun and solid sequel to May Day, that solidifies the characters and a bigger plot that is coming.

I’m a big fan of Josie Jaffrey’s Silverse, and was happy to dive into Judgement Day. It’s the second book in the Seekers series and needs to be read after May Day – that said, you do not need to have read the rest of the universe to enjoy this one, but it certainly makes it a wee bit more enjoyable if you’re aware of the bigger picture.
I’ll be honest and say May Day was not my favourite Josie Jaffrey book, but it certainly had me curious about the series. Fortunately, Judgement Day hooked me in the typical Josie Jaffrey way. There was plenty to enjoy throughout this one – the romance, the mystery, the drama – and it kept me hooked. I was eager to see how all the pieces came together and fell deeper for the characters. Although I saw the ending coming, there were some unexpected details thrown in throughout. Lots of details were introduced, and I’m excited to see what happens in the end.
Without a doubt, I’m eager to see what the next book brings. There are plenty of elements that I’m eager to see come together, plenty of details I am desperate to see play out. If you enjoyed the first book in the series, you need to give this one a read.

Jack Valentine is a Seeker in Oxford. What’s a Seeker? Well, a Seeker is like an enforcer of the rules. For vampires or Silver as they are called here. Basically, a Silver police officer for other Silver. So, a Seeker’s basic job is to keep humans from discovering Silver. When a human judge is found murdered and signs point to a Silver as the murderer, Jack and her team of Seekers are brought in to solve it. Fairly simple, right? No. Oh, no. Things are about to go horribly sideways just when she’s managed to get her life nearly together.
I loved book 1, May Day so I was fairly certain I would love this one. I was correct. What a convoluted and fucked up plot and I mean that in a good way. What a ride! It’s filled with twisty political machinations, personal issues, mystery, mayhem, and surprises. Lots of action, great characters, and snappy dialogue keep the plot moving forward at a good clip. Before I knew it, I’d come to the last page. And what a page it is. WHOA! What just happened? I absolutely cannot wait for the next book to see how Jack deals with all that has transpired. Because I'm sure she’ll do her usual of getting wasted off her ass. She can be a dumbass that way. I still like her though. Do you like a good paranormal mystery filled with kickass characters? Then do not pass this up.

This took me longer to read than May Day, but I still really enjoyed my time with it. I tell everyone that this series gives SVU vibes with British vampires, and I stand by that statement. This plot has LAYERS and I am here for it.
The political intrigue, the secrecy, betrayal, the sexual tension between Killian and Jack - all of it is utterly captivating.
I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entirety of this book and the ending had me gasping and fangirling like nobody's business.
The twists in this were so good and I wasn't able to guess where the story was going.
I am eagerly looking forward to starting book 3. If you love urban fantasy, mysteries, and vampires this is 100% for you.

OKAY. That was one hell of a sequel. I tore through this book, scarcely able to put it down. I thought MAY DAY was twisty, but JUDGEMENT DAY took so many unexpected turns that it gave me whiplash. I ordered the third book before I was even done with this one, and as I’m writing this I’m already halfway through it. I. Cannot. Get. Enough.

Judgement Day by Josie Jaffrey is the second book in the Seekers series, which is an urban fantasy, paranormal, mystery series with vampires who have to solve deaths and crimes committed by the Silver, that is by vampires. I adored May Day so when I found out that the second book was being published, I couldn’t say “yes” fast enough.
This book is set in Oxford just like the first one and I have really been getting into urban fantasy lately, so I really enjoyed it. We also get to see some other parts of the city such as the Rad Cam, but also more parts of the Baron of Oxford’s mansion, Crimson (a new club) and we spend more time in the college where the Seekers live and work. I love Josie’s descriptions and I could definitely picture all the places we get to see through Jack’s point of view.
I had forgotten how much I loved Jack but as soon as I started reading this book, I was sucked back into the story and into Jack’s point of view. I love her as a character. She is so sassy, determined, strong-willed, but she also has a vulnerable side that was explored more in this book that made her an even more complex character in my opinion. I also still love Cam and Naia, they are great colleagues and I liked that we got a bit more insight into Boyd too. Tabitha was interesting in this instalment, that’s all I can say! And Drake, omg, what an infuriating character. I could totally feel what Jack was feeling when they were together.
I think that Josie has written one of the most unique bunch of vampires I’ve ever had the opportunity to read about. They call themselves the Silver because of something special that happens to their eyes (won’t say what!) and they are not the typical “can’t go out in the sun” vampires. I really, really like this take on the vampire and I think that Jack is definitely one of my favourite vampire characters ever.
I also love murder and mysteries and this was a really intriguing one that turned out to be a lot bigger than just a murder committed by a Silver. The Seekers are tasked with keeping themselves secret and figuring out murders committed with Silver violence and taking care of them. I loved the murder and mysteries in book one and they continued in book 2 but got a lot bigger than I was expecting. I love how the whole thing was pulled off.
I knew I would really enjoy it because May Day was a fantastic first instalment in this series. Judgement Day remained strong and I think it even got better, which is uncommon in the second book in a series.
I love Josie’s writing style. As I just mentioned, she is one of my favourite authors and one of the reasons for that is that her writing style always captures my attention and doesn’t ever drop it. I love reading her words because they are funny and also immersive. I felt the pace was very good also and I struggled to put the book down when I needed to get on with work.
I gave this book 4.5 stars and I thoroughly enjoyed every single page. This was a great book and I just couldn’t read those last chapters fast enough. I was shocked by some revelations and I found the mysteries and secrets to be really well executed and highly enjoyable.
If you love books with a unique take on vampires, murder, mysteries, secrets, complex characters with developing arcs through the series, a well-executed plot, a great writing style and some tense relationships that you can’t help but root for, then you have found your book. I highly recommend Judgement Day to all vampire, fantasy, urban fantasy and mystery lovers.

It had a slow and "too policial novel" start for my taste, however, this book was full of situations that make us curious about the direction that this story will take.
So for a little background: Jacqueline “Jack” Valentine has been Silver (vampire) for 20 years, but in vampire years she's still considered a rookie. Jack works for the Seekers, kind of a Vampire CSI whose purpose is to keep the existence of these supernatural beings a secret from humans.
I love that Jack is a strong and independent woman, but that on the other hand she is still struggling with what she wants for her life and the way she's constantly growing and learning from her mistakes.
And the slow burn? wow 🔥🥵
If in the first book we were already attached to the fantastic love triangle of Jack, Drake and Tabitha, in this book we are completely undecided about which couple we ship.
I love this world and the way everything is created! When I read this book, I had just finished reading the Solis Invicti saga, whose story takes place after the Seekers series, and even the slight mention of Benedict and I was already getting on my nerves...! That's why I find Josie's writing extremely engaging, I'm able to feel so much empathy and affection for some characters and extreme hatred for others!
With the end of Judgment Day we managed to suspect who will appear in the next book and how it will meddle in Jack's life. I am very excited to read the sequel (when can we expect the third book, Josie? 🥺).

So for a little background: Jacqueline “Jack” Valentine has been Silver (vampire) for 20 years, but in vampire years she's still considered a rookie. Jack works for the Seekers, kind of a Vampire CSI whose purpose is to keep the existence of these supernatural beings a secret from humans.
I love that Jack is a strong and independent woman, but that on the other hand she is still struggling with what she wants for her life and the way she's constantly growing and learning from her mistakes.
And the slow burn? wow 🔥🥵
If in the first book we were already attached to the fantastic love triangle of Jack, Drake and Tabitha, in this book we are completely undecided about which couple we ship.
I love this world and the way everything is created! When I read this book, I had just finished reading the Solis Invicti saga, whose story takes place after the Seekers series, and even the slight mention of Benedict and I was already getting on my nerves...! That's why I find Josie's writing extremely engaging, I'm able to feel so much empathy and affection for some characters and extreme hatred for others!
With the end of Judgment Day we managed to suspect who will appear in the next book and how it will meddle in Jack's life. I am very excited to read the sequel (when can we expect the third book, Josie? 🥺).

Heyhey, BookNerds! I am back again with a review for Seekers #2, or Judgement Day, by Josie Jaffrey! And let me tell you – I was so so thrilled to return to the world of the Seekers and get back into a case with my absolute favourite bisexual Silver Detective, Jack! However, before I dive into my review I should direct you to my review of May Day – Book 1 in the Seekers series! Ok, so to start off with I absolutely LOVED Judgement Day by Josie Jaffrey. Maybe even more than May Day, which I adored. Book 2 picks up where book 1 left off, Jack is in trouble for her questionable dealing of a problematic Silver in the May Day case, she is finally dating Tabby, and questions lingering from May Day are still causing pronblems and threatening Jack’s trust in those she knows. Book 1 sets up a lot of intrigue with shifting allegiances and questions as to who can be trusted and what is really going on in the Silver world, and book 2 dives straight into this web and starts to form an intriguing story.
Much like book 1, Judgement Day is centred around a murder case, one that bares the marks of a Silver killer. As Jack and the team work on the case more truths come to light about what is going on in the Silver world. Jaffrey is fantastic at building mystery and atmosphere – you truly don’t know who you can trust and it works so well because so many of the characters are just so strong that you want to love them and trust them. However, true to the conspiracies that are growing, a lot of the characters have their own motivations and intentions in this book and it is incredibly compelling and heart-breaking as we watch allegiances form and shift.
The story is told from Jack’s perspective, the case unfolds as she investigtes it, much like in book 1. I really adore Jack and her POV – it works well with the murder/detective plot, and compliments the conspiracy storyline that grows over the course of the book. It keeps us guessing and theorising alongside Jack, and gives us insight into her conflicted feelings and emotions as she tries to untangle the complicated web of Silver lies.
Having Jack as our POV adds alot to this book because Jack has a lot of fantastic relationships and dynamics with those around her. Jack is dating Tabby, but there is still unfinished business with Killian Drake, I am not normally a fan of love traingles but in this case I absolutely adored the romance element and the dynamics between Jack, Tabby and Drake. I actually enjoyed this because of how Jaffrey writes her characters, they are so well written and the chemistry between them is so perfect, we have past ties and emotional scenes that work well, and Jack ha actually actively made the decision to be with Tabby its not the stereotypical dynamic and it works so so well because of the characters involved. However, while romance is a big part of Jack’s life we also get some incredible friendships between her and other characters. I love Jack’s friendships they are so well written, and I love her dynamics with her team as well. The characters really make the plot of the book shine.
I also really enjoy the detective aspect of the plot! We revisit some familiar faces, get a healthy dose of science, and I really enjoy following Jack and her team as they theorise and follow up on different leads. The case is well written and I love watching it come together. There are a lot of diffrent plot elements that run throughout the case and alongside it and I thought they all worked together beautifully to create a tense, mysterious and intriguing story that keeps you guessing! And THE ENDING! AH! I absolutely cannot wait for book 3, I loved the little hints and clues throughout the book that led up to the ending and I am so so excite for book 3 to be released!
Honestly, if you love vampires, detectives, some steamy scenes, twisty plots, great characters and characters that keep you guessing – then you will absolutely adore this series and I highly recommend you give it a read. I cannot recommend this series enough – and trust me when I say you will love Jack too!
Overall, Judgement Day by Josie Jaffrey is an absolutely brilliant sequel to an excellent series that has everything you could want in a vampire detective book and more!

This whole series is a lot of fun, as long as you like (and you really have to): vampires, violence, crime solving that doesn't always work out happily, sex, and a bit more violence. It's part of that tradition of Oxford-based police procedurals, and I have to say I love seeing my place of work wrapped up neatly in books.
This installation starts off quickly - Jack is on probation for some pretty under-the-law antics in the last book, but is finally in a good place in her relationship, still part of the Seekers team, whose job it is to keep vampire antics (Silvers) out of human knowledge, and on track to investigate quite a juicy murder.
However, things did begin to feel a little repetitive after a while - Jack's girlfriend, Tabitha, is constantly checking in on Jack Valentine and her relationship with Killian Drake. The same characters and suspects start to crop up from the previous book, and form a major part of the investigation again. In fact, the actual murder seems to quickly take a back seat in lieu of a growing awareness of the political machinations of the Silver world.
In fact, the investigation into what initially sounded like quite a juicy murder begins to stall quite dramatically about halfway through, whilst the key players, where Jack is very much on the periphery looking in, square up against each other, using anything, or anyone, in their path.
Killian Drake, and his relationship with Jack Valentine is ... problematic? But sexy? It's very confusing. They snipe and play with each other, and Jack goes back to the bar and drinks her feelings away, before wandering back into his house and stirring up the latent sexual tension again. It's good but it's also very not healthy. And I just reading it makes me feel conflicted about whether I should be enjoying it quite so much.
The whole series is super fast-paced, well-written and really draws you in. But don't forget those content warnings - you've got to really like what you're reading.

I was almost afraid to read this book because I loved book one so much, I thought book two might be a disappointment. I was so very wrong. Judgement Day was everything I hoped for and more!
This book picks up shortly after the ending of May Day. Our intrepid Seeker, Jack Valentine, is facing the consequences of her recent actions. Unfortunately, her arch-nemesis, the Baron is in charge of her sentencing. I do believe he has an ulterior motive for the probation he assigns her.
Judgement Day matches the previous book in continuing this fascinating world of Seekers, Silvers, and intrigue. There is obviously a war coming between the factions and Jack is one of the last to know. How is she supposed to do her job when people hide things from her and interfere with her investigation?
There are heroes to cheer for and villains to hate, and a few characters the reader just can’t be sure of. This makes for a wonderfully tense atmosphere. I also loved the humor scattered throughout the story. There is just so much to love in Judgement Day.
I don’t want to reveal a thing about this book because you need to experience every page as it happens. So let’s just say, I highly recommend this tale if you are into the vampire world at all. It also has LGBTQ+ rep that is just as it should be, simply part of the story and no one blinks about it.
The plot is well thought out and the pace is fast and intense. I could not put it down and finished it faster than I wanted to. What a conundrum…read slower to savor it or power through it because I need to know what will happen next. I might even consider reading it a second time just for pure enjoyment.
I have my fingers crossed that Ms. Jaffrey is working on book three. I’m not ready to leave this world and its characters behind just yet.

So we're back with the infamous Jack Valentine and we have what seems to be a similar story to the last. Only this time it seems that Jack has her shit together. She's doing well at work and is madly in love Tabitha...even if she can't tell her yet. Except Killian Drake is still coming between them despite Jack avoiding him for months. Now he's her probation officer with weekly meetings.
It'd be easy enough but a Silver has murdered a human judge in a locked library and the case is dead in the water. On top of all this, a new blood bar has opened and Jack isn't sure about the owners.
Judgement Day begins a few months after the end of May Day which you definitely need to read before this. Our key players have history and there are also a couple of storylines still active from it. Be warned though this one is definitely more smutty than the first containing a couple of intense moments.
As with the first book, I was quickly swept up in the story. The writing style just draws you in. What I Did Like:
+You easily fall right back into the world. It’s a seamless transition from book 1 while still giving enough of a reminder of what happened in the past to keep you on track if it’s been awhile since you read the first one.
+The characters. As it was in the first book, these characters are great! The banter, the depth, and the tension all work. This group feels so real. This could easily become a comfort read because you can surround yourself with this entire group (yes, even Drake).
+Again the entire premise works. The idea of vampires policing other vampires regarding their ability to keep the secret of vampires safe from humans is wonderful. This particular installment adds another level of tension we, perhaps, hadn’t thought of and that makes the book even better.
+That last line sets up book 3 PERFECTLY.
Who Should Read This One:
-Paranormal fans, this is vampire lore well written. There are things you haven’t heard of mixed with things you have in a way that just brings the vampire legends up to the modern day perfectly. Highly recommended.
-Mystery fans, stay with me … this is essentially a detective novel. This group of vampires (called Seekers) are the detective force for other vampires. Their procedures, reliance on science, and task force meetings will appeal to mystery fans who enjoy detective novels. Highly recommended.

I loved May Day so was so excited to be reading the second book in the Seeker series – Judgement Day.
If I had to sum it up I would say this is a vampiric crime thriller with elements of a traditional police procedural/police drama and added fantasy aspects. This combination work
I absolutely flew through this book. I love the world that Josie has built here. A world where humans and vampires live together in (almost) harmony. I love how the Silvers (vampires) live (mostly) normal lives with some twists and differences that are really thought out. When reading, this world is real! It fits and it makes sense and it’s totally plausible and realistic – it doesn’t feel like a fantasy at all. Everything just fits so well and is so cleverly plotted.
I love the character of Jack (Jaqueline) Valentine. She’s flawed and a little messed up but she is sarcastic, intelligent and very likable. I adored seeing her sweet side throughout her relationship with Tabitha and how they worked together despite being different however, there was no denying the chemistry between Drake and Jack and a secret part of me was willing that relationship on too.
This second instalment of the Seekers series is as amazing as the first one and I have only one complaint! How could you leave it like that Josie? I now impatiently await the third book.

故事模式跟之前一样，主人公杰克又参与到一桩命案的调查里，然后就是在各种线索里疲于奔命blah blah，破案小说的那一套，没什么新鲜的。中期重点又变成了三角恋，杰克一边跟女朋友塔比莎亲亲我我，一边跟男爵德雷克打情骂俏，然后德雷克告诉杰克，他一直在监视塔比莎，发现塔比莎背叛了杰克（但是直到这件事能对杰克造成最大的伤害时才告诉她，呵呵，男人），最终得知真相的杰克跟塔比莎分手了！
看到这里我已经对案件毫无兴趣（顺带一提最终凶手又是女吸血鬼，被抽干血关禁闭了），一路往后翻，然后就看到作者在最后用足足两章的篇幅描写杰克和德雷克啪啪，书里面男欢女爱干柴烈火，书外面我在惨叫“能不能选其他人啊？！”，整个人经受了严重的精神创伤，到现在还没缓过神来。
之前我还跟朋友开玩笑说作者有一颗想写暮光之城的心，只是受限于女权思潮，现在一看直接不装了！说是双性恋主人公，其实根本就是言情小说！然后我才意识到，作者花了一段描写德雷克的腹肌和屁股（呃），但是从来没描写过杰克或者塔比莎的身材——请直女作者不要写双性恋主人公，谢谢！写双性恋主人公也请不要把女同恋情的部分当成垫脚石，谢谢！

I didn’t think it would be possible for me to love this book more than it’s predecessor but I did. Judgement Day contained everything I loved about May Day, except it was bigger and better and smuttier… yes, you read that right. Jack has just about got her life together, she is in a loving relationship and her job is going relatively well (if you discount the fact that she tried to burn someone alive.) But she knows it’s too good to be true, after being called out to a human murder that reeks of Silver Violence, Jack and her team are dragged yet again into the underground world of the Silver’s. The more she discovers about the murder, the more she realises that her crazy theories about the Solis Invicti from book one may not be so crazy. Jack may just have to place her trust in the one person she absolutely does not want to if she’s to get the information she needs.
Jack Valentine has become, without a doubt, one of my all time favourite characters. Her ‘I don’t give a shit’ attitude is one I strive to mimic. You absolutely do not want to get on her bad side, but we know that underneath it all she has a big heart, one that can be easily swayed. As much as I love her there were times in this book where I just wanted to jump into the pages and give her a good smack around the head. She is so blinded by past behaviour and grievances that she can’t see what’s right in front of her face. The benefit of this was it added a great deal of angst and drama to the story, the downside was I had to wait waaay too long for what I wanted to happen… I’m impatient ok!
If you love a good cast of side characters then look no further. My absolute faves from book one made a reappearance; Cam, Naia & Boyd, Jack’s teammates, Tabitha her girlfriend and Killian Drake, the Baron of Oxford and Jacks arch nemesis. Every single one of these character’s adds a little something to the plot, be it levity from Naia’s inappropriate wit or all the drama thanks to Tabitha and Drake. They may not get POV’s but they are all brilliantly brought to life and make the story that much more enjoyable.
I can’t tell you how much I love this series, truly genre bending it’s part urban fantasy, part mystery, part romance and Jaffrey blends it all together to make one hell of a story. I love that each book has it’s own crime to solve, but weaving through it all is another mystery, one that we get little clues too throughout both books. We know it’s building to something, something big, we just aren’t sure what it is yet. I, for one, could read an unlimited amount of books with Jack and crew solving murders, but i’m also incredibly excited to see where the author is going to take the underlying plot. Having read the authors previous works I do have an idea of where the story is going as this is a prequel series, but I am incredibly excited to see how we get there.
As much as I love the characters, and the setting, and the mysteries in this series, it’s the romance that initially hooked me. Judgement Day has slightly less angst than May Day, but that didn’t stop me from shipping my ship (I’m Drake & Jack all the way.) I am not a fan of love triangles but the one in this series it just written so well, it doesn’t detract from the story it adds to it, and also plays a large part in the series as a whole.
The ending of this book had me squealing with joy & then just squealing! Jaffrey is the Queen of foreshadowing because once it happened, I realised I should have seen it coming a mile away. There are plenty of plot twists throughout the story few of which I saw coming, and some that took me completely by surprise, but it was the ending that really got me and made me instantly regret reading this early because now I have a longer wait to find out what happens. I love this series so much, and am eagerly anticipating getting my hands on book three, even if I have to wait a year for it.

May Day (review here), the first book in this series helped me rediscover my love of vampires, so I was so excited to be part of the tour for Judgement Day, the second book in Josie Jaffrey’s The Seekers series.
The book is in the first person from Jack Valentine’s point of view. Jack is a relatively new, accidental vampire who works for The Seekers, a group of vampires tasked with finding vampires who risk their discovery by humans. Jack continues to be funny, clever, sarcastic, realistic and without any angst. Yes, she doesn’t trust her boss, her colleagues, her girlfriend, the Baron and is part of a strange love triangle but this doesn’t stop her from doing her job.
There are several mysteries and subplots in this book but they do dovetail neatly at the end. The premise for the next book is also set up by the end and I did like the mini-cliffhanger at the end.
We learn a little more about the underlying vampire hierarchy and politics that unfortunately affect Jack and her job.
Judgement day can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading May Day first ( because it really is a great read!)

I am beyond in love with Jack Valentine. She is a fierce, likely to make rash decisions but also quick to own up to them and move on. She is determined and this makes her most excellent at her job as a seeker, a part of the vampire police, tasked with keeping vampirism a secret.
Jack rubs a lot of people the wrong way in her approach but it also gets her right into the thick of the action. This second adventure in Oxford is no different. A murder mystery, a political conspiracy and Jack chasing down all the threads, trying to decide who to trust.
Magic: 5/5
The magic in this second book is very much like the first, but with higher stakes. The magic is in the power over the vampires, new vampire drugs and potential political ramifications abound.

Another fast paced, installment of the Seekers. Jack is relentless in her pursuit for the truth of her case and her larger conspiracy concerns with a heavy dose of romantic tension with her beau, Tabitha and the delicious and potentially dangerous baron of Oxford.
