Jack and company are hot on the trail of the notorious pirate Left Foot Louis, who they believe has the Sword of Cortâes, but Arabella, the first mate, has a personal score to settle with Louis that could jeopardize the entire mission.

I am an adult reading this middle aged book series but I like that this one had a little bit more of reality of kids fighting adults and what could happen in the Caribbean
I finally picked this series back up. I lowkey just forgot that I was going to re-read these books from my childhood lmfao. But I’m back at it, and I just finished the third book, Pirates of the Caribbean | Jack Sparrow: The Pirate Chase
Now, this book was quite enjoyable. I thought the second book was very boring and mid. But this one is the best thus far. Once again, as these are fairly child-friendly books, they are very easy to read. Short, big font size, maybe a 100 pages or so...
So I read through it very quickly, and the pacing was also fast. But even for its short format, I found the pacing to be good. Quite a lot happens in a short amount of time...
Hiding from Left-Foot Louis’ ship, the mystery of Puerto San Judas, exploring the island, the theft, encountering Louis at the church… the chase, fighting Louis, claiming the sword, and respawning Cortés! There was content, and it kept me entertained all throughout.
Something that turned me off early on was that the writing quality can be kinda low tbh. I saw straight-out misspellings of words and names. Not often, but still. That’s just sloppy and lazy. Clearly, the book wasn’t edited and quality-checked enough.
However, to be fair, this may just apply to the Norwegian version. I've owned these books since I was very young, and so I own the Norwegian translations. I only ever owned the first 4 books.
I’m gonna read the whole thing whenever I finish those 4, so I could read the rest in English, and that’s lowkey preferable as well. But I’ll kinda get ocd from switching languages in the middle of a book series, so… No, I don't think I will.
There's still no excuse for it, no matter who’s in charge of publications in other languages. But the English version is the canon version, so I hope that one’s perfect at least. But I do like the story and the pacing, as I said!
We get some cool character development for many of the main characters during this book. I suppose Tumen, Jean, and the cat (lmao) are the ones who stay more or less the same. But I actually started to warm up to Fitzwilliam in this book, that was cool to see.
When I read this as a child, and honestly now that I re-read the first two books as an adult as well, I saw Fitz as this dork who Jack bullied with good reason. But there’s more to him. He’s more humanized in this book. He shows faults, he opens up more…
But he’s also brave, and supportive of Arabella. He’s quite an honorable gentleman, really. And if anything, it’s kinda sigma to be this well-dressed knowledgable, well-spoken aristocrat mf’er hahaha. I’m liking him more and more. And he’s skilled with the sword too.
I think Arabella warmed up to him more as well. I suppose I always saw her and Jack as potential romantic interests for each other in the future. But I know that he doesn’t end up with her regardless, because she’s not in the movies, where he’s obviously much older.
Something could still happen at some point, but it could actually very well happen with Fitzwilliam too. And I’m sorta a little ok with that, if they decide to go that route. We’ll see. I do think she finds Jack charming in his own kinda way, and likes him to some extent.
Even if he annoys her. But I don’t get the impression that she’s exactly attracted to him. Not right now, anyway. But she did blush when Fitzwilliam complimented her… Interesting. Arabella probably has the most interesting arc in this book.
She reveals to the whole crew that Left-Foot Louis indeed was the man who murdered her mother, thus essentially ruining her life. And she shows a deep anger, hatred, and a brutal side we’ve never seen before. She is extremely close to killing Louis in cold blood.
Eventually, the others convince her not to, because they think she’ll regret becoming a murderer like him. And it seems like they’re correct. Buut… She kinda indirectly kills him by accident regardless. Because she says she wants him to face justice or something.
But she’s holding the magical sword of Cortés when she says it (yes, they found and claimed it), and I suppose the sword took it as a literal command. So he disappears into thin air. It’s hard to know what actually happened to him, but I don’t think we’ll be seeing him again.
She’s pretty heartbroken after doing this, wondering if she actually killed him or not. So at least, I’m glad she didn’t directly kill him. The dialogue was impressive in this book. There was good comedic banter, and moments where the different characters connected more.
I’ve liked all the book covers thus far, and this one also ranks high. I love how powerful and fiery the colors are. There are also a select few pages in all these books dedicated to some artwork depiction of what’s going on.
I must say that I find the art style pretty cool and fitting. It’s in black/white. I usually prefer colors in general, but I do recognize that some comics or books like these feel appropriate in black/white. Like The Walking Dead. I think it feels relatively appropriate here too.
I find the book's title a little vague. They didn’t really chase after any pirates, if anything they tried to avoid them lmao.
But I guess there are a lot of pirates (including the Barnacle crew, even if they’re in denial about it) chasing after the sword of Cortés along with its components.
We’re left on a cliffhanger, where the crew finally has the sword of Cortés, along with the sheath and the parchment. They’re shocked as they see the actual ghost of Cortés appear behind Jack. It’s gonna be very interesting to see what goes down in the next book.

. ¿Os gustan las historias de piratas? ¿Y Jack Sparrow? 🌝 Lo siento, es mío.
Another one of Jack Sparrow's adventure books I received back in 2013 from my dad. It has been eleven years and these small books are better written than most of the adult fiction and fantasy we read in the present day!
The adventure of the crew of Barnacles is not to be missed by any kid! I'd suggest you buy a copy from the series any time you visit the bookstore, for yourself and any minor around you.
A bit about the book: From the Waves of the Carribean to the Shores of a Faraway Island, the sword of Cortes is pointing to its stolen home! A lively town turned to a ghost, is telling a tale of all that is to come!
I can tell you that I enjoyed this book so much that I couldn't wait for my next audible credit to get the next book in the series. I actually purchased the next bundle, books 4 through 6, because I had to know where this arc was going. I highly recommend this as a fun summer read for adults who remember watching Pirates of the Caribbean with Johnny Depp. The audible versions are great because the narrator does a fantastic job of emulating Jack Sparrow's way of speech.
Fun story about a young Jack Sparrow. If you love Pirates and Jack, then this is a fun read about the start of the story of how Jack became Jack. I like how they’re separate but continue the story well and connected
Jack Sparrow the pirate chase is a great book. I request anyone to read it it is a very fun and exciting book. The twists and turns of the book and the vents that happen upon the way are so good. That is why I request this book.
I love that the ending is so interesting that you can't wait to read the next volume. In any possible way you can't just stop reading it , cuz from the start tell the end the story is exciting and you will never get bored of the scenes.
0 stars bc of this garbage message that if you kill the person who assaulted and murdered your mother in cold blood, you're just as bad as them. f*ck that.
