Cal has problems…man problems. A torrid affair with Travis, a six-foot sex demon, has the celestial beings in a tizzy and she has been forced to make amends.
That’s the issue with having an angel for a dad. There are certain expectations—not to mention the fact that she’s also sharing her bed with a rather delicious warlock, Max. All she has to do is round up a few troublesome vampires and a rotten demon here or there and her work is done.
Or so she thinks…
Reader advisory: This book contains a brief scene of violence.
The characters were nuanced and well-written. I also enjoyed the banter between the odd gang and found the particulars of their relationships interesting to say the least. The plot moved quickly (almost too quickly) but I found that did not diminish the sequence. We got the backstories, the climatic midpoint, and the dramatic third-act.
This is not to say this was without faults. The book started mid-hiccup: this is my fancy way of saying that it just started. We are treated to a salacious sex-scene immediately and pertinent information sort of intermittently cropped up in the narrative.
Also, the sex scenes were pretty lackluster. Very unlike paranormals. That's not to say it's a bad thing, but the steam is pretty mid in this one.
That said, you'll enjoy this if you like paranormal romance novels with feisty female heroines, mid-steam, and complicated situationships.
P.S. I got a review copy from the author, but that did not in any way influence my ratings.
I wasn't ready lol. A steamy RH adventure novella with a half-witch, half-angel female main character, and her half-demon and her warlock companions. We jump into their world as they travel from place to place worldwide to complete tasks and missions and monster hunters.
I had the honor of reviewing this book from the New Adult Book Club and the author Katy Hunter herself. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It was unexpectedly exciting and I had multiple moments where I was laughing out loud at something a character did, said, or thought. I loved getting to know Cal and the boys and I think the ending really connects the story to the next two novellas. And the spice?! Woo, shit had me blushing! But I cannot wait to read the rest of the series and I would recommend this if you're looking for a spice>plot type of series.
What I liked about the story: The characters had potential. Their backstories alone set them up for plenty of drama and conflict. Also appreciated that each of the main characters had a distinct "voice." I could generally tell who was speaking without being dependent on dialogue tags. The dynamic among the three of them was compelling. The quirky eating habits of vampires was unexpected and caught my interest.
What I didn't like about the story: The pace of the story felt plodding. Sometimes the exposition felt excessive, and the main conflict doesn't even appear until a third of the way through. The steamy scenes were often underwhelming. The characters are young, strong, beautiful, and supernatural, but the intercourse they had was quite average - mortal, even.
This short story throws the reader right into the story and then zips along on a wild ride. I like with characters and the paranormal world they lived in, I just felt like the story could have used some further character development and romantic development. I liked that tidbits about the characters were interspersed throughout the story, but I needed more. A fun fast and light read.
The dynamics between the three main characters was great. The story line was different and how it moved along was okay. The introduction to their parents was interesting. Overall it was okay.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This one may not be the longest book but don’t think you aren’t getting an amazing story with so much happening and an introduction to some really exciting characters. Cant wait to see where this series goes
