Amelia the Mouse: Inventor Extraordinaire
Told in rhythmic rhyme, Amelia the Inventor Extraordinaire is the story of an overzealous inventor mouse who never gives up. Always willing to help a friend, Amelia never loses her enthusiasm as she creatively embarks on her inventing journey. If only we could all be so passionate! This story reminds readers young and old that success happens where passion and determination meet. It encourages readers to try and fail, and that each failure is an opportunity to learn. Even when it means inventing a rocket cane for your friend Winston . . . This story, accompanied by beautifully illustrated pages, will be a favorite with children and parents alike!

Amelia has an insatiable curiosity, determination, and perseverance. Readers will delight in her outrageous inventions like a shirt made of salami and a toothbrush for your toes.
One day Winston comes to him with a special request. He needs a cane that will not get stuck in ruts and help him walk smoothly. Amelia immediately gets to work. She comes up with some unique and outlandish inventions that are not practical.
Amelia never gives up. When Winston finally explains his exact needs, she comes up with a simple solution. Amelia understands there is no such thing as failure. When she encounters a setback, Amelia just tries harder.
Elementary school readers learn the lessons of perseverance and persistence. The illustrations are fun and vividly colored. Print size is a little bit small for younger readers to handle.

Amelia the Mouse: Inventor Extraordinaire is a great book for young children or to be a first reader for children learning to read. I liked that Amelia didn't let failure bother her but used it as a learning experience to try something new. It is very positive and it highlights how helping others is important. The illustrations are cute and fit the story.

this would be fantastic if it wasn't rhymed, as the rhyming's so forced that it's awkward to read and some of the phrases just become gibberish. but the story's good, and the message and illustrations are excellent.

I first heard about this book from a four-year old at school (almost five--Happy early Birthday, babe!). Her dad wrote it. And damn, wasn't she just the proudest little girl ever. So happy for her dad. So excited that he wrote this book. For her, for her sister, for all little girls and boys out there who need a book so honed in on positivity and creativity.

"Amelia the Mouse" teaches children (and adults alike) about never giving up, about the I-Think-I-Can I-Know-I-Can, about keeping a smile even in the face of disappointment. And if his daughters are examples of optimism and cheer.
Not only that, but it gives a subtle (not so subtle) nod to the STEM fields, to women in the STEM fields (to little girls in the STEM fields). Telling girls (and boys) that they can be inventors/scientists without making a big deal of it, of making it appear as just another choice (along side normally-female-led careers like nurses and teachers).
Who's looking forward to J.W. Kohler's next masterpiece?

Amelia (Mouse) was an extraordinary inventor.
Every morning it was off to the workshop to invent something else.
1-day Winston (rat) came to pay her a visit.
He needed a new cane.
Later he came to get it.

An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary; MS/HS age) rhyming storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational presentation, movie (don’t’ let failure get you down) an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

“Amelia the Mouse: Inventor Extraordinaire” is a beautifully illustrated tale for developing minds. The story tells that tale of Amelia, an inventor who is tasked with coming up with a creative solution to one of her friends’ troubles. Along the way, Amelia is confronted with many challenges as she brainstorms a solution to the problem. At each step, Amelia faces the task with a sense of curiosity and perseverance, until she finally comes up with a simple, yet creative solution.
I think this story is a wonderful addition to my collection. Its message is simple and timeless, and echoes the old saying, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!” If you are looking for a book that encourages readers to stay curious, think creatively, and always persevere, this one’s for you!
I look forward to seeing what other new and exciting adventures Amelia will go on in the future, and the creative inventions she will come up with along the way! Don’t pass this one up!

Amelia demonstrates perseverance and GRIT as she creates new inventions. "For Amelia knew it was never a failure, just a lesson to learn from it." I love that Kohler weaves this throughout the story. It sets the framework for believing in yourself and continuing to investigate and explore. Young readers need this encouragement to grow. Amelia is an appealing character and the illustrations bring the scenes to life. Readers will feel like they're joining in as she creates her latest inventions and finally finds a cane that works for Winston.

Cute and great
Great attitude to develop in children of all ages! Great Character qualities that will be helpful to all ages, even young college age children can learn how to deal with set backs without giving up.

Nice enough illustrations and a good message, but the rhymes were very forced. Plain prose I think could've enhanced this story!
