“Sometimes God gives us safe spaces to retreat so we can come back healed.”
This was a great story and one with a unique male main character - I don’t think I’ve read about a male hero who’s served prison time.
The theme of this one is that what’s inside of us is more important than our circumstances. Winston ‘Jack’ Stewart arrives in Deep Haven in Fall at the encouragement of his friend Boon Bockham. Boon knows that Jack, an ex-con and former paratrooper, needs a place to start over.
Nurse Colleen Decker is also looking for second chances. She joins the Crisis Response Team, too, as a flight nurse. She reminds us and Jack that it’s our relationship with God that defines us, not other’s opinions of us.
My heart broke reading about the misunderstandings and damage done as a result of a lie of omission.
This was a little difficult to get into at first, but I ended up loving it. We are all Hanging By A Moment, aren’t we? I hope I extend the same love and understanding that I expected of Deep Haven residents.

Wow! This author captured the essence of Deep Haven in Hangin’ by a Moment! I was captivated from page one and taken on a powerful emotional journey with these characters.
I liked that from the very first moment Jack entered the story, the reader knew that he had served time in prison. It was clear that he was a good man and that there was a story behind why he was there. I was anxious to know what that story was. When it was eventually revealed, what had happened made a lot of sense to me.
This story had the great Deep Haven vibes that come from wonderful interactions with the community of Deep Haven, along with a beautifully developed love story. My heart soared with Colleen and Jack as they fell in love amid the turbulent situations they found themselves in. And it plummeted at one point and I felt the pain in my own heart as hurtful words were said in anger. Wow! This story is definitely one of may favorites of this new Deep Haven Collection.

Come on back to the wonderful little town of Deep Haven, MN for the fifth installment in the series. Susan May Warren and Andrea Christenson deliver the goods here and in a great way.
Colleen Decker and Jack Stewart are the stars here as each struggle with inward fears. Andrea Christenson proves she is a voice to watch in Christian fiction as she fleshed out these great characters. The spiritual theme is so good, too, as it always is in a Warren book, too. Our circumstances do not prove our worth to God. God looks at the heart. Well done!

Characters: I'm so glad Colleen finally got her own story, and I enjoyed seeing her growing more courageous and taking risks to help people as she trained to be a flight nurse. And poor Jack ... I wish he hadn't felt like he had to hide the time he'd spent in prison. I can understand why he felt bad for what happened, though.
Language: Clean.
Moral: I'm getting worse and worse at picking morals out of books. For this one, I'm going to go with a theme of friendship. :)
Plot: The action scenes, character growth and dilemmas, and a developing romance kept me flipping pages.
Romance: Clean. Just a few kisses.
Writing: Andrea Christenson's writing worked well for this book (good descriptions, dialogue, etc.), and I'm looking forward to reading more by her in the future.
Overall: Hangin' by a Moment was a quick, entertaining read, and I'd recommend it to those who enjoy Christian fiction and contemporary romance.

Colleen Decker decides to leave the big city for her hometown of Deep Haven for some much needed R&R. Coming home feels like a step back in her career, so she agrees to take flight nurse training. Jack just wants to start over, so he takes Boone up on his offer to move to the small town of Deep Haven, where he get's a job as chef for the VFW. He has experience in pararescue, so he offers to help Collen train.
I love these trips to Deep Haven, with its small town charm, familiar friendly faces, and new friends. I liked Colleen and Jack's chemistry as they get to know each other, as Jack helps her train and condition for the demands of being a flight nurse. Jack is very supportive, patient, and he praises her strengths. I like how he grows in his faith over the course of the story, learning that God doesn't hold his past against him anymore.
I love that there are so many familiar faces in this story, and I loved that Colleen is the girl from a previous series, and that we get to catch up with her parents too. This series is full of gems, and I love following up with characters from the Susan May Warren universe in Deep Haven, yet you can also read these books as stand alones without any prior Susan May Warren reading experience.
A charming read, with endearing characters, faith and plenty of heart. Great characters, setting and interaction!

Who do you consider to be your family – and how far will you go to protect them? Susan May Warren and Andrea Christenson explore those ideas in Hangin’ by a Moment, the newest installment in the Deep Haven Collection series.
I really love this idea – because, in may ways, I have a colorful family, and I bet you do, too. Even if it weren’t for those people who add some color to the tree, we all have our quirks, and sometimes that can make it difficult to get along – or to know how we fit in. Christenson dives deep into these ideas with this story while adding new characters to the Deep Haven family, and that makes for a really thought-provoking story.
Even better is the exciting, perilous moments where strong superhero rescue types are needed – and there are several. Who can resist a smart, hunky hero? Add in his background pain and you have a leading man you’ll be cheering on in every page. I love the way that Christenson dribbles out his backstory, keeping you on the edge of your seat all the while.
Hangin’ by a Moment is a thrilling addition to the Deep Haven Collection. I love the lesson within and hanging out in this fun town. Warren has created a really cool cast of characters, and each book brings more people to befriend – so grab some hot chocolate and snuggle up with your favorite quilt for this cozy autumn story. You won’t be able to put it down.

The second chances, the new love, and the home sweet home setting made Jack and Colleen's story all the better for a need to read fall read.
Warnings: attraction, kissing, flashbacks, panic attacks.
Recommend: 13/16 up for romance but it is pretty clean.

Deep Haven is one of those fictional places that has a soul all its own. Kind of like Stars Hollow or Maple Valley. It's just...sigh...like coming home.
Book #5 in the Deep Haven Collection follows Win/Jack, a guy who wants nothing more than to forget his past and find a place to belong, and Colleen, a young woman returning to her hometown desperate to prove she's not the troubled girl everyone remembers.
Susan May's book, You Don't Know Me is one of my top favorite novels set in Deep Haven, which is where I first met Colleen Decker. I have thought about Colleen and where she might be from time to time. Imagine my delight when I learned Andrea Christenson was planning to write Colleen's story! Her high school boyfriend, Tucker got his happy ending and by-golly Colleen needed her's too.
Andrea did a wonderful job of writing Colleen "true to self". Everything about the way she thought, spoke, reacted felt genuine and consistent. I really enjoyed seeing her overcome the trauma from her past and go after new dreams. That poor girl has been through the ringer in her young life! Her scenes with Frank and her Grandma were so sweet!
Win/Jack was an interesting guy. I'm always up for a great redemption story, so I appreciated how Andrea incorporated Jack's less-than-ideal past into this book. There were so many times when my heart went out to him. He just wanted people to see him for the man he is and not the man his past dubbed him. I was proud of Jack's progression in regards to his fears as well as his relationship with his Savior. Side note: I want a Colleen burger!
I did find myself wishing the author allowed us a deeper look into these character's hearts. Both Jack and Colleen were good characters, but as the story progressed I found myself wishing for more depth. Depth of emotion and POV, specifically.
Overall, a solid addition to the Deep Haven Collection. I loved catching up with more of my favorite Deep Havenites and am really looking forward to book #6. That blurb at the end has me all kinds of intrigued. Poor Nick!

Wow. I love how these new authors just keep getting better and better. This story was full of adrenaline-pumping action and swoon-worthy heroes. As someone in the medical field, I was curious how the author would address the medical aspects and I feel they did a decent job. I loved having a story about an ex-convict and second chances. Though this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, but you’ll recognize some of the characters if you’ve read the previous books.
As Win leaves prison behind, he vows to start over as Jack (his middle name) and agrees to Boone’s request to lay low in Deep Haven. His military training makes him a prime candidate for the flight nurse position the new Crisis Response Team needs but he’s reluctant to commit. When ER nurse, Colleen Decker, shows up, she admits to some interest in the job, but she’s not certified and would need some training. When Boone volunteers Jack to help train Colleen, a friendship begins to develop between the two. While Colleen and Jack are both haunted by some PTSD, can they find a way to work together and save lives, including their own?
The different emergencies that the author comes up with in a small town like Deep Haven is impressive (coming from a suburban/city girl). This story comes when I am currently residing in a rural area and makes me think about the complications that occur when trying to save lives. My stomach dropped every time they flew on the helicopter, and I give props to those that can work in these non-ideal situations. Colleen’s fears were real — imposter syndrome is a real thing — but she did what her gut told her to save the patient.
“I suspect He put that love of a challenge and adventure in your heart for a reason.”
I love this quote because it illustrates the creativity of God in His purpose for designing us a certain way. How often do we feel like we were made for a purpose that’s different than everyone else? How often do we feel different and like we don’t quite belong? Colleen’s character is so relatable for me and I really enjoyed getting to know her. I also loved seeing all the other characters that I’ve come to love in Deep Haven.
Highly recommend if you enjoy Christian romance with some humor, small-town charm and heroic rescues.

It’s another beautiful and memorable trip back to Deep Haven. Andrea Christenson’s characters will wrap themselves around your heart and their second chance at life will encourage and bolster your faith. It’s wonderful to see the older and wiser Nathan and Annalise Decker from Susan May Warren’s original Deep Haven series. Deep Haven is definitely growing and the new authors building onto the small town are doing so in a perfectly seamless and captivating way to invite the readers back to stay for a while.
Colleen and Jack are both traumatized from their past mistakes and the consequences but trying hard to overcome them through work. Neither sees romance or fellowship of loving friends and family coming their way to help them until they encounter both in Deep Haven. There is plenty of action as they work together on their Crisis Response Team’s chopper and quite a bit of medical drama as well as they respond to emergencies. It’s such a fun and exciting book that you won’t be able to put down!

I enjoyed this visit to Deep Haven, meeting up with Colleen (who we first met in the first Deep Haven series in
), seeing her all grown up and trying to learn from the past and make better choices. She is hard on herself, but also don't back down from challenges and enjoyed seeing her learning to be a flight nurse and how she was in her element when she faced emergency situations.
I was a teeny bit frustrated that everyone still referred to Tucker as bad boy Tucker, because come on, he grew up and so much more than his teenage reputation!

Jack, here was another "bad boy" with so much more to him than meets the eye. I loved how the author shown the reader glimpses of the past and filled it in as the story developed. I totally understood why Boone was in his corner - he really got a raw deal.
The chemistry between Colleen and Jack was there from the start and I enjoyed their relationship development.
I loved the small town vibe and how the family looked out for each other. I was a bit disappointed with Adrian, but he redeemed himself again a bit later.
The romance was sweet, the action and emergency situations brought in at the correct times. The author also surprised me of when and how Jack's past was revealed.
If you enjoyed Susan May Warren's previous books set in Deep Haven, you will also enjoy this one.

- yes I have a soft spot for him!Jack, here was another "bad boy" with so much more to him than meets the eye. I loved how the author shown the reader glimpses of the past and filled it in as the story developed. I totally understood why Boone was in his corner - he really got a raw deal.
The chemistry between Colleen and Jack was there from the start and I enjoyed their relationship development.
I loved the small town vibe and how the family looked out for each other. I was a bit disappointed with Adrian, but he redeemed himself again a bit later.
The romance was sweet, the action and emergency situations brought in at the correct times. The author also surprised me of when and how Jack's past was revealed.
If you enjoyed Susan May Warren's previous books set in Deep Haven, you will also enjoy this one.

HANGIN' BY A MOMENT is a story of second chances and redemption set in a small town. Great characters, the cozy feel of the small town, learning to build faith and a sweet romance make up this enjoyable read.
I really liked these characters. Jack is just a good guy regardless of how he lets a few mistakes and his assumptions about his father define him. Colleen is a woman who has faced some tough things and is working through her own demons. They hit it off in Deep Haven, but both don't really want a relationship, particularly Jack. They have a lot to work through individually to really be able to trust each other. I enjoyed their friendship and how that developed into something more, including some pretty swoon-worthy moments. The author also did really well with all the technicalities with working on the rescue team and particularly being a flight nurse. There were some pretty intense moments that definitely added to this story. Weaved throughout was a story of love and acceptance from God that especially Jack needed to learn.
In the end, was it what I wished for? If you're a fan of Deep Haven and the other books in this series, then you'll definitely love this newest addition. It's also a great story for readers who enjoy sweet, inspirational, small-town stories with great characters.

Visiting Deep Haven is like seeing friends and family each time I start a new book! I love that most everyone I've come to love shows up in some way with each consecutive book! I mean, I need to catch up with everyone, dontcha know?
This time we're meeting Colleen and Jack. Colleen works at HCMC which is notorious for being a hospital in Minneapolis where crazy stuff happens. So, things you read in books can be true to life! An incident at work has her heading home to Deep Haven for some respite. You can sense from the first page how much she needs this even though she's not thrilled with the idea.
Someone else who isn't thrilled is Jack. Boone shows up to bring him to Deep Haven to take time to acclimate to being out of jail. He also wants to bring him onto the new CRT, which he wants no part of. While we don't know why he was in jail, you can sense he just wants to lie low and not connect with anyone if he can avoid it.
Well, we all know better don't we?! Colleen shows her chops throughout the story. I love how she's willing to try new things and put herself out on a limb. She seems to take life by the horns even when she's unsure. Jack gets thrown into the mix of her life and tries to hold back as much as himself as he can while helping her succeed. You can sense his inner turmoil throughout the story. And man, if someone knows how to carry a load of guilt and shame, it's Jack. Even when it's not warranted.
I really liked the high intensity of the training and situations Jack and Colleen go through. And I'm on their side when they say they need a different helicopter pilot! lol Bill stresses me out! Anyhow, they go through a LOT together and I love how they encourage and support each other for pretty much the entire story.
Anyone else ready to move to the fictional town of Deep Haven because I'm game!

We get another book in the Deep Haven series! Another mysterious stranger is coming to Deep Haven, and another small town girl is going to learn how to put down roots. This book focuses on Jack-formerly Winston Stewart-, a friend of Boone’s, and Colleen Decker, the daughter of Annalise Decker. Annalise got her own story in You Don’t Know Me which is the 6th book in the original Deep Haven series. I actually haven’t read that book, so it was added to my growing TBR! One of the things I really like about this series though is that it actually can be read stand alone. I have not read any of the original Deep Haven series, and I have not read the first 2 books in this series either. But I can still enjoy the characters and the story without being confused :)
Jack is just trying to find a safe place. After a terrible mistake that ended with him in prison, he needs to get his life back together. He has no desire to get involved in anything permanent though. But when his friend Boone asks for a favor, he can’t refuse. So he finds himself training Colleen Decker to be the newest flight nurse. No matter what Colleen does she can’t seem to escape from her past. After a freak mistake in her job as a ER nurse, she’s forced to take time out in Deep Haven. She ends up getting roped into the flight nurse job, and there she meets Jack. As Jack and Colleen start to fall for each other, will they be able to put the mistakes of their pasts behind them? Or will it follow them into their future?
This was another wonderful book in the Deep Haven series! Jack is an adorable main character, and I love how Boone pulls another new guy into Deep Haven. Jack had to conquer a lot of demons though. He was filled with guilt over what he had done, and he didn’t want to accept God’s forgiveness. I loved how compassionate he was, and he was incredibly heroic in all of his actions. He and Colleen were so cute together too!
Poor Colleen had gone through a lot in her life, and she was still struggling with all the trauma. She wanted to prove to everyone that she had changed from who she was as a teenager, but she felt stuck. She had to decide whether or not she could trust how God had made her. And whether or not the path He took her was the right one.
This was such a wonderful book! I would recommend it to anyone who likes sweet Christian romance. There were a few moments where the plot dragged a bit, but it was still a lot of fun! It’s a perfect, clean, fall romance!

I have loved the time I have been able to spend in Deep Haven this year. These books have been a sort of "comfort food" read each time.
this story follows a character that long time readers may recognize, Collene Decker (from You Don't know me).I really thought her character stayed true to what we had already known anout her while giving us a chance to catch up with her.
I will admit I was realy intruiged by the hero of this story. I love complex backstories and this one is one you don't see offten in contemporary Christian Romance.
And while I was reading I I learned more about air rescue and flight nurses. very interesting. I had the urge to even try rock climbing, but I think I know my limits and will stick with hiking.
This book had a very even pace and had a bit of angst to drive the story.
At some points I was getting frusturated when the characters didn't comunicate or did'nt rise to the growth that I wanted to see. I get that these moments were where the there for the plot to get driven forward, yet I didnt feel quite invested, as I wanted to. However it was an interesting and easy to read story. I enjoyed how previous characters were included. It is always special to visit Deep Haven!

I am loving these trips back to Deep Haven in this new collection. The new characters are quickly becoming old friends and I love seeing them again in the books along with the characters from the older books.
This story is a journey for both characters to find their true paths in life. They are both searching for meaning and fresh starts. And both characters are so appealing.
Jack is a former pararescue jumper looking for a second chance, family, belonging and a new life.
Colleen is a nurse is looking for a fulfilling career and to escape her panic attacks and trauma of the past.
This novel has some heart stopping action and intense moments. Working on a Crisis Response team is the real deal.
It also has many lessons. One of which is that God knows our heart and His plans aren't changed by our bad experiences. He uses them through us to minister to others. God takes ordinary people and things and uses them.
These Sunrise authors are the real deal. Their stories never miss a beat in taking me back to the beautiful little town on Lake Superior.
The thing I love about the Deep Haven stories is that every novel demonstrates the importance of friends who are like family, who support and love you through trials and good times. It also shows how God shows His love to us through others, how he loves us no matter what we do. We can be forgiven.

The ultimate story of redemption and second chances.
This is my first meeting with Colleen, but I guess she appeared in one of Warren's earlier Deep Haven books (I've read many of those but not that one). She's strong and competent, but a terrifying event resurrects old ghosts and makes her doubt those things about herself. Who can't relate to that?
I loved the adventure feel of this book. Ride along on some harrowing helicopter transports and fall in love with Deep Haven and its residents all over again.

After several nail-biting moments, one intense scene left chills. Soon after, I had glistening eyes more than once. Gratitude for second chances, restoration and redemption from the past and finding family in all forms of community are driving themes in this Deep Haven can't-put-it down read. Andrea Christenson beautifully weaves scenes of realistic health care challenges and side effects of trauma for first responders.

Hangin' by a Moment is book five in the Deep Haven Novel series. This is a nice story that will stand alone, but it does reference people from the previous books in the series, so it is best to read them in order. This is a very well written, descriptive story that was hard to put down. I enjoyed reading of the training Colleen did to be able to join the rescue team. I enjoyed that this story also brought back a family from the previous series and built on what has happened in their lives. This story focuses on faith forgiveness, especially in Jack's life, with his past and his father and with his friend Boone. I enjoyed that Colleen and Jack have gone to the quiet lakeside town of Deep Haven for a fresh start.

As always it was a great pleasure to return to Deep Haven. This was such a beautiful story of redemption. I enjoyed Colleen as the heroine of this tale. But I really loved Jack. Rooted for him from the first page. My heart broke for all he went through. But it made the ending o so satisfying. Well done, Andrea for writing this amazing story!

There are several fictional small towns that I would love to live in and one at the top of the list would be Susan May Warren’s Deep Haven, Minnesota. Except for the winters – it gets quite cold enough here in Tennessee for me. I absolutely love Warren’s brilliant idea and her generosity in publishing new novels by beginning authors set in Deep Haven, even to the point of including some of her own characters from previous novels. I have been a fan of Susan May Warren for many years and I have even more respect for her talent and integrity now.
Hangin’ by a Moment is the latest book in the newest Deep Haven series and is penned by Andrea Christenson. With a hero and heroine that readers will be sure to love, the story features Jack (Win) Stewart who has just been released from prison with nowhere to go and is invited by his good friend Boone to spend some time in Deep Haven. Boone has even found him a job and a place to live. Colleen Decker is an ER nurse whose recent traumatic experience has triggered enough anxiety that she returns home to Deep Haven, intending to spend a week or two before returning to work at the hospital. Obviously God has other plans for both Colleen and Jack who quickly find themselves working together and encouraged to join the local crisis response team.
As I can always expect, Hangin’ by a Moment is action-packed with life threatening emergencies, lovable down home characters, ample humor, and a complicated romance. It is always fun to run across characters from previous books in passing but I particularly liked how the main focus was on Jack and Colleen. Hangin’ by a Moment is a sweet, story about Jack Stewart and Colleen Decker. Jack is trying to forget his past and Colleen is trying to find her purpose. Together they find romance. Jack carries a lot of guilt over a crime he served a year in prison for, but with the help of a wise and good friend, he begins to see God is in the business of redemption and His redemption applies to Jack despite his past. Colleen learns through personal challenges that maybe she’s been missing what God has in mind for her to have a satisfying and rewarding life. As with all the books in this series, there is the message of God’s infinite love for us. You’ll revisit familiar places and see some old friends – some you might even get a little angry with for a few moments. There are several harrowing rescue scenes that will satisfy your love for action if you’re an action lover. It’s a very entertaining book with a deep message of hope. Andrea Christenson and Susan May Warren have penned another excellent story in the Deep Haven Collection.

I love how sweet this romance was. Colleen had lost some of her self-confidence because of events in her past and needed someone to speak truth to her. Jack was that person. He helped her to see past the stain of her mistakes to her true heart.
In a lot of ways, Jack needed a family to surround him and show him love. He found that in Deep Haven. Together, he and Colleen found balance and acceptance.

I loved reading this clean Christian romance set in Deep Haven! Easy to read, great characters, fun plot!
Colleen and Jack were great relatable main characters and I loved getting to know them and their back stories.

Don't let your past define you. That's what I got out of this story....Jack Stewart comes to Deep Haven to escape his past, son of a Senator and convicted felon, Colleen Decker returns to Deep Haven to help out her family and tries to prove she isn't the girl she used to be. This is Andrea's second book in the Deep Haven Collection. I feel like I'm back home in Deep Haven when I read her stories, she introduces new characters but brings in the old ones so it feels familiar. If there is ever a "book town" that I would want to visit it would be Deep Haven.

Readers will not be disappointed to read this installment of the Deep Haven Collection. I mean, please can we just stay in Deep Haven forever!? Christenson has done such a wonderful job not only bringing us new characters, but incorporating some old favorites (Hello Swoon, I mean Boone). Not only that, she shows readers how important it is to look at ourselves the way God sees us, not the world or media. That is such a great lesson to learn. A big lesson. One that we need! So story aside, thank you Andrea Christenson for that.
Now, back to gushing. Jack (AKA Win) is such a great hero. He's flawed, unsure of himself, and really is way too hard on himself. I actually could connect with him on a deep level while reading, because I find that I have some of the same flaws as him. I think that's why the message of this book resonated so deeply with me. But he's also got some swoon worthy qualities - caring, willing to help, strong, and a good kisser (hehe there are some get your fan moments!). His growth and redemption throughout this book were a joy to read. And his chemistry with Colleen was at just the right temperature. Guys, you're not going to want to put this down. Trust me on this.
Something else Christenson brings to this story is action. I'm talking rescue, nail biting scenarios that you're not sure how they are going to turn out. There is one sequence near the end - um yeah. Make sure you carve out some time to read it all at once because WOW it was suspenseful, dangerous, exciting, nerve wracking, and intense. There's some medical stuff going on (great job on the research here!), and honestly I almost felt like I was watching Grey's Anatomy lol. And that's a good thing because I enjoy watching that show (for the medical stuff).
I highly recommend reading this book, well the series actually. You won't be lost if you start with this book, but the others are so good as well that you don't want to pass them up! A season of second chances is the perfect description for this journey to Deep Haven! Hangin’ by a Moment is the 5th book in a new series from Susan May Warren where she pairs her fictional town of Deep Haven with an up and coming Christian fiction author. While I have not had the opportunity to read any of the four prior books in this series, I am familiar enough with Deep Haven, and made myself at home with these wonderful characters and exciting story.
Deep Haven is one of those towns where all of us wish we could spend a day. The small town charm, the neighborly people, and its sneaking ability to feel like home draw me in every time I visit. After a traumatic incident, Colleen decides to return for a visit of her own, thinking it will be a quick trip and she’ll be back to her busy life as an ER nurse. Little did she realize she would be pulled in a different direction to use her skills in a new way.
Jack seeks out Deep Haven to escape from his past. Thinking he can lay low and no one will uncover his secrets, he takes a job as a cook, serving up the most mouth-watering burgers (seriously, I need to know the recipes for some of them – they sound that good)! But once his secret gets out, he knows it will be too late to convince Colleen that their budding relationship is worth a second chance.
I want to applaud these authors for writing about two flawed, struggling individuals who suffered panic attacks because of some intense situations in their past. Subtle reminders of those situations creep up in the most inopportune times, and with God’s help and each other’s reassurance, they find a way to make it through. I think readers now are encouraged when they see characters that they can relate to, who have the same flaws that we do, and don’t expect the last page of the book to have a sweet little bow attached.
Readers that are new to any of the Deep Haven books will have no trouble diving right in to this story. It is full of exciting twists and turns, and the kissing scenes between Jack and Colleen are enough to give you heart palpitations! If you are looking for your next contemporary romance read, I promise – you’ve found it here!
