Red Door #4

The Other Brother

Rate this book
Things happen as they’re meant to.

There’s no avoiding your destiny…

Dillon Byrne always believed in fate.

He would meet someone. Fall in love. Be a family.

All in that order.

Sometimes fate has other plans…

Life changes in an instant. Love is lost.

But how do you let go of the life you once had?

To appreciate the magic of a brand new beginning, you have to make peace with the ending first.

Endings are never easy, but a beautiful beginning is destined to follow, isn’t it?

And just maybe out of sorrow, joy can grow…

The Other Brother, book 4 in the Red Door series, contains subject matter which may be sensitive or triggering to some and is intended for mature audiences. While you don't need to read the previous books in the series, as this is a standalone novel featuring a unique romance, it is highly recommended. Red Door is a series of interconnected standalone novels. All of the main characters reappear and some storylines connect throughout each book. For the best experience, read the series in order.

Dyan Layne is a nurse boss by day and the writer of edgy sensual tales by night—and on weekends. She's never without her Kindle, and can usually be found tapping away at her keyboard with a hot latte and a cold Dasani Lime--and sometimes champagne. She can't sing a note, but often answers in song because isn't there a song for just about everything? Born and raised a Chicago girl, she currently lives in Tampa, Florida, and is the mother of four handsome sons and a beautiful daughter, who are all grown up now, but can still make her crazy--and she loves it that way! Because normal is just so boring.

Such a great book. I first fell in love with Dillion in book one and I’m so happy he got his own book. The author cracked my heart wide open and then slowly put it back together again.

This will be vague as I don't want to give away any spoilers. Technically this is standalone. However,it is an interconnected series and you will have a better understanding of the book.

Dillion has always sacrificed his happiness for his family. His love for his brother was far more important to him. Then the unthinkable happens and once again he has to make difficult decisions for the one he loves.

We are taken on a beautiful love story about grief, healing, and love. It is such an incredible journey. When Dillion loves you, he gives his all, heart, and soul. Plus, let’s not forget this is Dillion, he is sexy and kinky. I mean all the men are But Dillion takes the cake. The Other Brother is my favorite book in the series.

If you haven’t started this series, What are you waiting for? You will not be disappointed.

4star but just for my Dillon 🌟
88%complete

Dillon was the steady pilot light, burning at a constant simmer. He’d always been there. She must’ve fallen for him too, but the fall was so soft, so sweet, and so gentle, she hadn’t even noticed when he caught her.

I have been patiently and anxiously waiting to read The Other Brother, and Dyan Layne did not disappoint. Dillon's story had me cheering for him, hoping he would finally find love, to finally be a part of something bigger and better and a loving relationship with someone he can trust and be himself with.
This story, this well written, exceptionally executed story, broke me at 24%! I rarely, if ever, cry reading a book. The Other Brother had me bawling like a baby before I was quarter through reading it. I was angry, upset, and might have let Dyan Layne know. She gently told me she was sorry, but that this was what had to happen. I disagreed, but when I finished reading this beautiful story, I have to agree with her, it was the way it should be.
Fabulous series and 10 ⭐ star story!
Well done Dyan Layne!

No matter how much you think you're ready, some books you just cannot prepare for. This is one of those books. Dyan Layne has written a masterpiece with The Other Brother.
She pushed my limits. Boy did she push them!
I bawled like a baby.
I screamed and threw my kindle.
And I may have even cursed her more than once.
This book hits hard and it hits somewhere deep. It's definitely the most emotional of the series thus far. Stories such as this are the ones I will remember for years to come.
I read to feel, and The Other Brother moved me in a way so few do.
You can't have roses without the thorns and you can't open your heart to love without opening the door for pain.
I'd say gather your courage, your tissues, and say a prayer for strength but I don't think even that will prepare you. But if you're strong enough, this is a journey you will not soon forget.

Dyan did it again! I absolutely enjoyed this read so much.

Dillion has been one of my book boyfriends since the beginning of the series. I love his compassion and he is always placing others before himself. With making sacrifices he faces circumstances that take you on a very emotional roller coaster.

I absolutely devoured this book all in one day. I will say grab that box of tissues, be prepared to yell. It had me in my feelings for sure.

Each book in the Red Door series can be read as a standalone but for full effect, I highly recommend reading all these books. You will not be disappointed.

***SPOILERS***

How does one begin to write a review for a story that encompasses so many thoughts, feelings, and emotions into one, a story that resonates with an interconnected family of brothers, cousins, wives, friends, of love, happiness, of devastating heartbreak and loss, but also of second chances for a future destined by fate could not have come at a higher price.

A girl walks into a bar for an interview, Dillion sees her first, only when his brother Kyan walks in and she is instantly smitten, what starts are something small, turns into something more between Kyan and Linnea, leaving Dillion in the friendzone with Linnea, having lost the girl that he had set his sights on, loving her from afar, whilst his brother gets to live his life with the woman he loves, a future he no longer believes in, setting him on the path to self – destruction. Only a brother would never begrudge his own brother for loving his girl, a love so profound you must wonder, is it meant to be?

An industrial accident sees Kyan loose his life, his brother Dillon and cousins Jesse and Brendan along with Linnea’s brother Seth deliver the earth shattering news to Linnea, pregnant with their first child and now a widow, it is hard not to be overwhelmed with the insurmountable grief and loss of a loved one, so bereft in the despair, the pain agonizing, but with the support of family and friends Linnea gets through the worst day of her life and the days that follow, leading up to the birth of her and Kyan’s daughter Charlotte Kyan Byrne.

And the days that follow, all the firsts without Kyan are hard, but still they get together, to celebrate and commemorate what is most important to them all to meaning of family. And through it all, Dillion has been Linnea’s rock, and together they connect on a deep level, they express their love for each other, Dillion wants it all with Linnea but how do you let go of the life you once had, to appreciate the magic of a brand new beginning, you must make peace with the ending first, and after almost screwing it up with Dillon, Linnea sets it right for the both, and just maybe out of sorrow, joy can grow and it does in the most miraculous of ways.

Their story was raw, as it powerful and confronting. It was fast paced and thrilling, it made my heart race and soar to unfathomable heights.

These characters will impact you in every way possible, there will be moments that will make you laugh and cry but have you thinking what the f***, but its these pivotal moments that expose the perplexing tangle of hurt, loss, anger, and denial, powerful in themselves, the secrets, lies, pain, motives, and truths which becomes all the clearer with those deep revelations.

I was hooked from the very first chapter right up until the last. The different point of views told a telling story of heartbreak, love, and loss, of their past connecting with their present. The author knows how to write, to ensnare her readers to ensure they will come back for more, me I will come back for more.

It holds so much drama, action, slow burning passion, betrayal, trauma, romance, intrigue, friendship, lust, loyalty, trust. It will hook you, have you turning the pages to find out more, the themes and triggers were defining pivotal moments that made these characters even more stronger testing any reader, reading this story, it enables the readers to really connect with the characters, and as the story unfolds the readers see a lot of development and growth from the characters singularly and together.

And those s*x scenes in and out of the bedroom were f*****g erotic, the explicit language and dirty talk was filthy, downright wicked, sensually dirty, forbidden, emotional, wrong, intense, obsessive, daring, explosive, physical, provocative, possessive, controlling, oh so steamy, deliciously wicked, dirty, hot, beautiful, naughty, raw, rough, powerful, passionate, wet, dominating, and wild.

There is no avoiding your destiny, for Dillion, he got his happily ever after with Linnea, for his brother Kyan was destined to love Linnea first, for Dillion was then destined to love Linnea last, and love her he did, keeping his promise to his brother always.

This book was so much more than I was expecting, it grab my heart from page one and the story was painful but beautiful.

Dillion's book is finally here and his story is one you don't want to miss reading. After so long Dillion's life seems not complete. The closes to him have found their happiness while he still searching for his. At front he seems that he has it all but deep inside he is lonely. He is a man that could sacrifice his happiness for the other people he loves. There has been many tragic moments in his life but when the biggest tragedy in his life happens Dillion needs to be there to support the ones he loves putting his feelings aside once more.

This story is about healing, finding peace and most of all love.

Without giving too much of this story away the only thing I can say is : "prepare yourself for the amazing love story".

Dyan Layne has become one of my to go authors because her stories give you a whole new perspective of a love romance.

I have loved Dillon from the very first book.🥵🍆 Dillon to me was always fun and flirty, but his angst always lingered. He is so sweet but he burns a little, & I am so thirsty for him. It drives me crazy!

He loves getting wild in the bedroom. To him there is nothing better than letting your guard down and riding hard or slow. As long as you are free with him. I have loved this crew from the very first book. They are truly a family that loves and accepts. There is no room for judgement. It is so wonderful we get to catch up to everyone. These men are good men that get serious and kinky in the bedroom. I mean, what is better than a man caring for you, whispering all the filthy things he is going to do to you, and delivering! I am painting my door red!!! (If you know, you know)

I soaked up every page, every vivid detail Dyan Layne provides. It took my breath away. Someone who considers himself stuck in the shadows or an outcast, doesn’t realize how much he fucking shines. 🤧

No spoilers here. Because it’s a journey you have to endure. COME ON THIS IS DILLON!!! It’s his time. My aching heart needed him at every page. Dyan Layne delivers a devastatingly beautiful book that breaks and heals. Combine that with sex and sensuality, and it’s heady. It’s fabulous writing that stimulates our senses.

It delivers heartache and hope for those who have loved and lost, felt like an outcast, or who have suffered. Dyan Layne wrote a book about how pain can be a part of your change and how acceptance will help you reach for the stars. (Dillon will also make you see stars, you get me ? 🥵)

Let me start by saying that Dyan Layne has delivered an absolutely extraordinary story.  While Serenity 💜, Affinity 💗, and Maelstrom 💙 were all exceptional stories, The Other Brother will bring readers to their knees.  Be prepared for an emotional and torturous journey that will leave you crying and still believing in all the possibilities that love can endure. Have faith on this journey.

Dillon Byrne has always been the one in the shadows.  He’s provided the love and support his family needed. And his love for his brother, Kyan, always reigned supreme. Nothing stood in the way of Dillon making sure his family thrived.  And he paid the price for that is so many ways.

When unimaginable circumstances seize control of Dillon’s life, he must make decisions that affect those closest to him. And once again, his life, his happiness, his future take a backseat to the lives of others.  But it’s a choice he makes with a bit of regret but honor and love.

Dillon’s journey is one that leaves the heart not only grieving for all his losses but hoping for him to finally discover love and happiness.  Time has not always been his friend.  Loss has often been a bitter shadow.  But maybe, just maybe Fate has made it possible for him to find what his heart has always longed for, a true love just for him.

The rest of the beautiful family and friends make appearances as well. We see their love and amazing support and strength offered to Dillon. We once again, welcome them home.

It’s a bit difficult to convey my thoughts on this profound story without spoilers.  Incredible love and heart were obviously put into Dillon’s story.  Be prepared for a rollercoaster of feelings. There’s fear, pain, grief, heartbreak, love (so much love), unity, and hope.  Just be prepared to fall in love with Dillon.

Thank You Dyan Layne for this amazing 📖.

Tragedy, devastation, love, and learning to live in a present tense that differed from what they all thought it would be. An ending that would break you and a continuation of a forever. This book must be read with tissue. Fate is a fickle "you know what" but she puts you a path and she will not be denied. She is perfect for him. Now is their time to be tested and tried. I have not read a more beautiful story than Dillon's. We have waited so long. We love him and all his broken pieces. It is time for him to find his happily ever after. This book will tear you apart and put you back together in an astonishing way. I absolutely loved this book! Dyan has an amazing gift. . .

Author Dyan Layne gives a powerfully emotional raw story of how you can find love & unite with people through the toughest of times.

I loved everything about Dillon Byrne. He is now my top favorite book boyfriend in the Red Door series she has given us.
All these books can be read as stand-alone but believe me once, you read one, you will want to read them all.

Dillon's emotions through his book are felt hardcore.

I cried, I loved, I hated, I felt his pain and his love for his family and the ones he cares about.
And Dillon surprised me with his sexy kinky self.  Who knew? Well you did but not to this extent which had my cherries twisting a bunch and blushing like a fool.

I love how this story pulls you into the character's story and makes you never want to leave.

Be ready for some twists & surprises in this love story.

The Other Brother is a Top 2021 Must read! I am still in a book hangover that I don't want it to go away.

Did I mention I really love Dillon?

This is another great addition to the Red Door Series. Not going to lie, Dillon has been my favorite since Serenity and his story does not disappoint. The trials and emotions that he has to endure just add to the importance and commitment to his love. You will cry, you will smile, and you will scream while reading this book. We, as readers, and the characters have to go through all the emotions to appreciate Dillon’s HEA. Sometimes Fate does have another plan.

I was happy to see all of the other Red Door characters and the support system that have for each other. ❤️🦋🎸🏈🌹

Kudos to Dyan for writing such emotional story and thank you for taking us on this journey!

Sweet mother of God, I survived another one of Dyan Layne's books... by the skin of teeth.

I'll keep it short as to not include in any spoilers!

Having a brief taste of the Dillon Byrne in Serenity, you can relate when I say The Other Brother was everything I ever wanted but never knew I needed to conclude this Byrne brother chapter.

The red door series will leave you more than hot and flustered. But on a deeper level, represents everything opposite about sexual repression.

As I write this review I sit and think of the journey Dyan has taken us all on in the Red Door world....
Dillon didn't get his HEA until now, I knew Dyan would knock me off my feet with his story, but I didn't know how much she would destroy me in the process...

The Other Brother hit very close to home for me. I lost my dad in July, and so reading the grief this family felt was very real to me. I am still grieving my father, and so I felt what they felt on a much deeper level than I normally would. I cried with them, got angry with them, cheered when they started to overcome their guilt and grief, and above all, felt their hope and their ability to find joy in life and live again. That everything would be okay in the end. Grief doesn't have a timetable. And the characters show that even when your heart breaks, you can still see the stars in the sky...you know the moon will still shine in the darkness...

Dyan ripped my heart to shreds all over again with their story, but she also helped me heal a little as well. I would give TOB more than 5 stars if I could!
Amazing job book ma! This is hands down the best book you have written so far!! You blew me away, and this is a story I will never forget! Love you bunches!

Grab the Tissues & Dive on In! Dyan Layne’s Writing is Incredible!!!

What a beautiful, incredible, heart wrenching story. I fell hard for Dillion from the very first book and this book will have you falling and loving him even harder.

There is so much to unpack with this incredible story. So much that goes on. But you are mesmerized by every detail, every chapter. Your heart beats strong and fast for these characters. Feeling everything they feel.

If you read all the book in this series and are about to start this one, dive in! You will love it. If you haven’t read the others, start from the beginning. It will make loving these characters even better. Dyan Layne is an incredible, heartfelt writer. You feel her love she has for her characters. She will pull hard at your heartstrings in this book, but it will all be worth it!

I was graciously provided an ARC of this book. Where do I even begin! I knew going in it was going to be a tough read! I love angst, love a book that makes me cry so that wasn’t much of an issue… but at one point (which I won’t go into details because I don’t do spoilers!) at one point I tossed my kindle aside and said Nope! I was pissed… but then after cooling down and realizing that this author has never steered us wrong and would never write anything that wasn’t pertinent to the story, I continued and I am so thankful I did. Dyan took something tragic and made it beautiful. It was already a love story in the making in Serenity. She just completed the circle in The Other Brother. Was it heartbreaking? Yes, yes it was. Was it meant to be… yes. Am I still broken hearted? Definitely! Do I Hagar another fave in Dyan Laynes Red Door series? Absolutely. Five Star read!

Oh my goodness if you haven't jumped into this book series yet, you are seriously missing out. This book is an emotional roller coaster, I was left crying into my wine, while my husband looked at me crazy, it is actually that good. This is the 4th book in the Red door series and it is Dillion's story as he tries to figure out what he wants in life and if he should give the woman, he's been dating a chance, because he really wants marriage and kids like his brother as well as his cousins have. There are some seriously hot and passionate scenes in there, that will have you running to the store for batteries. There are also some serious ugly crying scenes in this book, but so worth it, Dyan Layne has a way of taking a book and grabbing your attention from page one. This is an amazing, emotional, hot, steamy, and passionate story. Take a chance and read it you won't be sorry!

It's legit impossible to review this book without spoilers, so I'm going to keep it short. I'm glad I binged the entire series before thinking I could just tackle this one - even though it's technically a standalone, you need the context to be able to really feel the book's intent.

I loved this book. Though it was still as spicy as the others, it was also much more poignant and emotional. Dillon is everything, and I'm glad he got a happy ending.

Wow…. This book is so emotional and intense in all of the best ways. Dillon is such an amazing character. He’s always been so full of love for others and selfless especially where his family is concerned. I’m not super emotional when I read sad things because ya know… tears are the devils juice but geez Dyan really tugged at every last heart string I own. I can’t give much away but I promise the destination is worth the journey.

I was not prepared for this book. Or, I should say that my heart was not prepared. The Other Brother is an emotional read, and not just a teary-eyed kind of read. No. This book is a full on ugly cry. This book had me just bursting into tears mid-paragraph and unable to see the page.

Dillon has loved Linnea since he met her, but timing has never been on his side, and fate had other plans for them. Life can change in an instant though, and one ending is another beginning.

At first, I had a hard time getting into this story, but for strictly personal reasons. One: my son's name is Dillon, so that's a little weird. Two: the story is written in third-person POV which I always struggle with, but I became engrossed in the story itself so quickly that I was soon able to overlook both of these things. I am so glad that I kept going.

This story is the fourth book in the Red Door series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. This is the first book that I've read by Dyan Layne, so I have not yet read any of the series leading up to this one. There are a lot of characters in this story, and I did have a bit of trouble following them all at times, but the author does a good job of giving just enough back story to keep you following. You do need to have an open mind when reading, as there are some non-traditional relationships and situations in this book, and I will be adding this series to my TBR as I do want to eventually dive more into that world.

Again though, this book completely took me off guard with the emotions that it triggered. The storyline itself is absolutely heartbreaking. The relationship between Dillon and Linnea is beautiful, but the situation that they find themselves in is so complicated and unfair. I appreciated how the author took her time in developing their story. It didn't feel rushed. It felt real. TOO REAL, and that's what broke my heart.

This is an amazing story. I highly recommend that you grab this one, but grab a box of tissues while you're at it.

The Other Brother - Dyan Layne

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

::: SPOILER-FREE REVIEW :::

Rating: 5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Wow, for one I just love Dyan as a human and an author.❤

Her stories are spicy and unique, showing diversity, vulnerability and strengths.

This book was no different. It was a roller coaster that I feel so privileged to have been able to read!

OMG I needed a book about Dillion a long time ago and I finally got my wish.

My favorite male character when I read Red Door series was Dillion. I first fell in love with him in book one and I’m so happy he finally got his own book.

I haven't met a Dyan book I didn't like and everyone of her heroes own me. OWN ME!!

The BLURB alone had me anticipating this book, then one look at the COVER and I was signing up!!

This was so easy to get into, but not so easy to put down. I read this like the pages were on fire.

I loved that the story was serious but little parts made me laugh, breaking up the more emotionally charged scenes. I swooned, squeed, proclaimed my undying love for the book, and had to take breathers to wipe the tears that sprung up on me more than once.

I felt so in sync with the character's emotions and journey. I felt like I went through all their emotions without ever once feeling disconnected. I felt the love, I felt her pain and confusion, and I felt the healing.

I honestly do not have one single complaint about this book. Every word, every sentence, every scene puts the imagery of the story into your head so vividly that you feel as though you are right there, watching the events unfold.

Kudos to Ms Dyan because that's talent.👏

Oh and if you haven't figured it out by now... this is by far my favorite book in the Red Door series.

Dyan impressed me with her other books, exceeded my expectations with this one, and now, she has me as a fan forever!

I can't wait to get all books in paperback. They're going to be right up on my top favs shelf <3

Enough said! Go Read This Book/series.
