The Sopranos meets Ghostbusters in this action comedy starring Gene Rizzo and Devon Grace, two hitmen working for the infamous mobster, Alfonso Carboni. After being recruited into a mysterious Government agency not only will Gene and Devon have to hunt and kill ghosts, they will have to dodge Alfonso Carboni and his men.
I went in to this story wanting a good time and it delivered. It's a simple premise and I appreciated how it came together. It is an action comedy and it also reminded me of a buddy comedy with the two main characters having a similar relationship to Lethal Weapon or Pulp Fiction.
There are elements of the story that go places I wasn't expecting it to and I enjoyed how the writers created their own world.
I would recommend it to readers who are just looking for a fun time and nothing serious.
It's OK. I really wanted to love it, but the pace lags at times. Giving it three stars for the creativity, and because I'm glad it exists, but truthfully I'd rather give it 2.5 stars.
I think the main problem is that the boss Alfonso is actually too boring. The henchmen are delightful, as is the Pam Grier knockoff character. My advice to the author is to punch up the boss’ flaws and personality a bit more so that he is entertaining to read about. Otherwise it's kind of annoying that Alfonso is stepping in the way of their new life/story for no reason that I care about as a reader.
Like it started off strong as Godfather meets Ghostbusters.
But then it kept trying to be too many things on top of each other and it lost the fun pull. Too many stories that jumped around not giving a clear timeline of what was going on.
The best part of the whole story was the deep friendship between Gene and Devon. Two hitmen who have each other's backs and aren't afraid to let the other how much they mean to each other.
