Los tres cerditos yoguis y el lobo que perdió la respiración
A calming spin on a classic fairy tale from #1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Verde
Once upon a time there lived a wolf who lost his huff and his puff. It was a BIG, BAD problem! One morning, the wolf came upon a peaceful little yogi doing sun salutations. The wolf wanted to huff and puff and blooow her hut down into a big pile of straw. But instead the yogi suggested, “Let’s meditate on that!”
Soon the wolf met a second yogi, and then a third. He may have lost his huff and puff—but with the help of three new yogi friends, can the wolf find his breath?

The story of the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf becomes a silly and dull self-help book promoting yoga and meditation for anger management issues.
August 27, 2020
Yoga books for kids can be hit or miss. This one, framed by the story of the Three Little Pigs, is fairly strong. It teaches kids some basic breathing techniques (as well as a bit of yoga) so they can help regulate themselves when they feel like huffing and puffing and blowing something down.
The story follows the structure of the original fairy tale quite well, although the twist is that the wolf is our hero. Sometimes he gets angry, though, and then he huffs and puffs and blows things down. This doesn't make him very popular. One day, he loses his huff and puff, and it's up to a trio of friendly yogis (who also happen to be pigs) to teach him how to reclaim his breath... in a healthy way.
The illustrations are basic, but very colourful and kind of cute. They work well with the simple story. I also like the fact that the third little pig uses they/them pronouns; it's a cute touch that helps the book feel a little more inclusive.
Overall, this is a nice little picture book. Be sure to check out the notes at the end for more breathing and yoga exercises.

A wonderful example for children on how to cope with feelings of anger and frustration by learning proper breathing techniques through yoga. The illustrations are of a young wolf and the three little yogis are the pigs. This is a really cute take on the original story.

This was the favorite of the books I read to Alena today. It's clearly a retelling of the "Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf" with a big twist. I think it's meant to be truly educational, but it also made me laugh out loud. It's about a wolf with anger issues and the smart, enlightened pigs who mirror meditation and yoga human ideas. I wasn't expecting any of it. I've been reading a lot of self-help books since the start of the pandemic. I've learned more about yoga, meditation, and thought management in general. I learned a couple of new things from this book! I'm so glad people want to help children learn how to manage their emotions. Mental health is so important!

There once was a little wolf who was always huffing and puffing and blowing everything down whenever he was angry. One day he loses his huff and puff but fortunately meets three little yogis who teach him how to breathe and mediate, and eventually how to control his emotions. An imaginative retelling of The Three Little Pigs that is both an engaging picture book and a useful introduction to yoga, deep breathing and calming mediation techniques.

A mindful and cute take on the 3 little pigs. The wolf has lost his huff and puff and is introduced to yoga practices to find his breath. The book includes real exercises that littles can do as well! Definitely recommend.

THE THREE LITTLE YOGIS AND THE WOLF WHO LOST HIS BREATH is a great picture book that teaches children meditation and breathing exercises to deal with big feelings like anger. The wolf gets angry sometimes (like all of us), and when he gets angry, he huffs and puffs and blows things. However, this makes other people upset, and the wolf doesn't really like the way it makes him feel. He doesn't really know another way to deal with his anger.
One day, he finds that his breath is gone and he can't even huff and puff. He comes across a little yogi with a straw house, and tries to huff and puff and blow it down, but he doesn't have enough breath to do so. The little yogi doesn't get upset and instead tries a breathing exercise with him. However, it does not help when he remembers how angry he is, so they go to the next little yogi (with a house of sticks) with a similar result, before going to the third little yogi, who asks questions the wolf had not been asked before. He then helps the wolf to find his breath with a new exercise.
What I loved: This book really walks the reader through these breathing exercises, all of which are valuable tools for children who might be handling big emotions. The book has themes about mindfulness and caring for people who might scare you (empathizing with bullies, as the pigs do for the wolf who tries to destroy their houses). These can be helpful for the right audience and suggests that anyone can handle their big feelings with extra thought. The breathing exercises are definitely easy to copy with the detailed instructions from the book, and this is really handy.
What left me wanting more: As a small point, the amount of words needed to convey the story is quite long, so this would be better suited to older picture book readers, but the fairytale element does make it seem younger.
Final verdict: Overall, this book is a great lesson in mindfulness exercises to handle anger or upset feelings. This book can be a great tool in introducing breathing exercises and/or the need to try several techniques before finding one that works for you.
Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

The Three Little Yogis and the Wolf who List his Breath is a fairytale story that is here to help us feel better.
The Wolf begins the story and has lost his breath. We see how when Wolf gets upset or frustrated, he blows his breath in anger. Wolf comes across a peaceful Yogi who is meditating and Wolf is jealous of his peacefulness. The Yogi tries to help him come up with some ways to help him remain calm relax. When Wolf gets upset again, the Yogi moves on to the next, who also comes up with some peaceful strategies to help Wolf with his anger issues. When that doesn't seem to help, he gets upset again about losing his huff and puff. Moving on to the next Yogi, what will happen? Will Wolf get better? Or will he continue to show his anger by huffing and puffing?
This story is great to teach students how to share their feelings and how to remain calm. The Yogis show strategies on how to handle anger and talk to the wolf on what some safer ways are to voice his anger and frustration. It would be great to read when a student is struggling in class and cannot seem to figure out how to safely and calmly share frustrations.
This is a WOW book for me because students need to learn how to show their emotions. It is a spin on the classic story we know, but shows a deeper meaning of it. Students will see how to show emotions when they are angry about sharing, or worried about what will happen next, or even when they are frustrated on a problem in class. It is good to show students it is okay to have emotions, we just have to learn how to use them safely.

A retelling of the three little pigs. Here, the Big Bad Wolf has lost his Huff and Puff. The little twist is that each pig is trying to help the Wolf find his huff and puff.
The pigs all do yoga and they each teach a real breathing technique to the wolf to help him control his emotions and help him find his huff and puff. It's a cute idea.
The artwork is simplistic and it does that job. I didn't think much of the artwork.
Still, I enjoy the yoga and the breathing. The little techniques are great for anyone and they are also great stress relievers. I give them to people to do themselves and try to reduce stress at work. People get stressed and forget to breath - seriously. Anyway, a nice little book.

October 4, 2020In this reimagining of the Three Little Pigs, a wolf has lost his huff and puff. The wolf spots a calm little pig doing yoga by a straw hut. All the wolf wants to do is blow the hut down. When the pig hears the wolf's wheezing, she offers to help him get his huff and puff back through breathing exercises. The wolf continues practicing breathing and yoga poses as he meets each of the three little pigs, all eager to help.
A great fit for a yoga storytime or any storytime focused on mindfulness and emotions with perhaps a nicer, more thoughtful message than the original tale. Nice inclusion of a pig with gender-neutral pronouns as well.

This was a cute treatment of the three little pigs fairy tale to offer a way to manage stress and anxiety for children. I especially appreciated the page at the back that outlined specifically how to do the different breathing techniques mentioned in the story. I did laugh at the one response that the librarian told me about when I picked this up at the library. When they read this one to the children for story time they asked them if they thought the wolf in this story was happier than the wolf in the original fairy tale. One little boy chimed right in and stated unequivocally that the wolf in the original fairy tale was happier because he had a full belly. Out of the mouths of babes...

OMG what a PRECIOUS little book!
I don't know that it will stand up to nightly readings, but I truly enjoyed this "3 Little Pigs" re-telling that involves the pigs teaching wolf yoga positions and breathing techniques. I mean how cute is that?! And many kids these days could benefit from the advice inside.
The only thing is, I wonder if this will age quickly? There are so many mindfulness / meditation / yoga books coming out for children right now, and I hope that doesn't slow down any time soon.

Even as an adult, I loved reading this book! The book follows the classic storyline of the 3 little pigs but tells the story with a caring emphasis on the "big bad" wolf. However, in this version, the wolf loses his breath and the 3 little pigs (also called the 3 little Yogis) help him find his breath again through yoga techniques. The book has a great plot and is fun to read, but also teaches young learners simple yoga techniques to calm their bodies in moments of panic. This book doubles as a fun and silly read aloud and a social/emotional lesson resource.

A great retelling of a classic. The wolf loses his cool and his breath and has trouble figuring out what to do. The three little yogis help him find balance through breathing techniques and poses, which help him relax. This is a great starting point for the kiddos who get angry and don't know what to do with themselves (which happens to everyone). A great reminder for adults too, breath through your "snout" and you might just feel better.

This is quite text heavy but it could be valuable to read with elementary children (or some older children, too). Yoga is something I started practicing last December and it has made me more aware of my breathing and of my body in general. I could see how that could be very valuable for children as well. I was not aware of some of the types of breathing that are mentioned in the back of the book so I look forward to trying them out!

A cute and uplifting take on the classic tale of "The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf". Wolf has lost his huff and puff, which means he can't release his anger by blowing houses down... Instead, he comes across three friendly pigs practicing yoga. Follow along on this journey to discover various breathing techniques that Wolf learns about from the three little yogis. Lovely, colourful illustrations.

Love, love, LOVE Susan Verde!
In this play in the Three Little Pigs, Verde's wolf has lost his huff and puff. He liked to huff and puff when he was angry and no he has no way to release his anger and tension. Instead of blowing down houses, the pigs nicely offer help, one at a time, and through breathing exercises, the wolf is able to find a gentle release for all that negative energy he was carrying around. Breathing mindfully, it seems, is better than huffing and puffing. Namaste.

I am a crazy big fan of breathing during every emotion. Anger, sadness, or even when one is happy. I love how the pigs aren't scared of the wolf but they befriend him and try to help him solve his problems. Breathe, Breathe, Breathe!!! Cute picture book with a great story and lesson.

Lily liked this one so much I had to sneak it out of the house to return it to the library! It helped to facilitate some challenging conversations about ways to calm ourselves when we're feeling overwhelmed. I even found some of the advice helpful.

I found this a very easy, but very nice read. The illustrations are simple but lovely, the text is simple for younger readers. I think the plot of the book is good and it is a nice twist on the three little pigs and the big bad wolf.
I would recommend it.

I really enjoyed this picture book, even as an adult. It was an interesting take on the classic Three Little Pigs, and I loved that they showed that not everything works for everyone and to keep trying until you find what works to manage your stress/anxiety/anger.

This is a great twist to the Three Little Pigs tale. The book is a social/emotional story about ways to help self-sooth and manage anger.
The wolf is super surprised when someone takes an interest in WHY he feels the way he does. A great tool for kids AND parents.

I thought this was a wonderful book. It mixed the three little pigs with meditation and yoga. Something extremely helpful with deescalating their anger. I loved it, because I am a big believer in meditation, anything with having kids practice meditation is something I approve of.
