Ever stuck between the thought whether our lives are shaped by our choices or is everything written in the stars? I've been contemplating between this thought every now and then. And this is the concept which sold me to pick up this book.

Written In The Stars by Divya Anand, a rom-com set in Bangalore. Sitara Srinivasan, product manager at 'Glam' cosmetics brand who has been going through some rough times at work and her life.

Enters dashing yet a little uptight, Abhimanyu Singh, the new marketing head at Glam. He is obsessed with astrology and Sitara uses this in her favour to approve her new plan. Abhimanyu is that character whose first impression at the company was set up very wrongly.

I truly enjoyed reading this fun yet super sweet office rom-com set amidst some amazing side characters like Ash, Upasana, etc. The story picks up after the first 100 pages and there's no going back. I highly recommend for romance reads to pick up this book.

I loved the reference given by Sitara in terms of books and movies. It just made her character more relatable and fun to me. The writing is also super easy going and upto the mark. Really looking forward to author's future works.

It's not very common when I decide to set aside everything and really indulge into a cozy rom-com, yet this one is not that crazy cozy but I loved it anyway.

When all her political manoeuvring to get promoted in her job didn't work Sitara Srinivasan decides to go with the star callings and use the marketing head Abhimanyu Singh's obsession with astrology to her advantage. Soon she is doing everything based on Abhimanyu's horoscope even though she ends up alienating her co-workers and friends. Hilarity ensues when Abhimanyu begins pursuing Sitara romantically because of his horoscope telling him that she's the one. For Sitara it's now love vs promotion.

Written in The Stars is a funny light-hearted rom-com to enjoy with a cuppa. Whether anyone likes to read romance or not this book is a go to for all who likes to read funny and heartwarming books. The book is set in a corporate theme but very well thought out so the theme doesn't get monotonous. It's a balance between office and personal life of Sitara. The characters are well portrayed and very relatable. An extensive picture of all characters is prominent throughout the book. All that hilarious situations and witty remarks works as cherry on top. A cocktail of workplace politics, gossips, fun, friendship and obviously love.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Up until I read this, I had very disparaging opinion of Indian YA authors. I mean I don't even know who reads Durjoy Dutta or Ravinder Singh without barfing at their pathetic attempt to pull a "Fault in our stars". Divya Anand surprised me. It has Sitara, an ambitious yet clumsy woman (she makes an entry with broken sandals and splashes rain water from her hair on the people around) who is quite career driven and doesn't have time to gush over the new cute guy in the office (or so she claims). There is Abhimanyu, the answer to my prayer for finding new fictional character to crush on. He has that entire serious corporate persona going on but surprisingly doesn't come across as a pompous ass. Gotta give props to Anand for pulling this off, I was sick to death reading about the stereotypical handsome but brooding business tycoons who our heroines have to woo over. Our dear Sitara has to work with Abhimanyu to ensure her project is successful and she gets her desired promotion, but the tactics she resorts to, ensues unexpected results that she did not see coming. Some office politics is also thrown in which prevents the books from becoming jst another romantic drag. Overall Anand's writing has a certain appeal, it easy to follow and does pack some humour in parts.
Despite knowing this was going to be a breezy light read I was mildly amused at myself for feeling disappointed when the book ended. I wanted to continue with Sitara's journey, even if it is her to and fro commute to office and occassional stops for trivia night. I wanted to know more, what happens in her work situation and also witness her happily ever after. Sigh. It is a short novel that is sure to draw you in and leave you with a smile.

•The guy's name is Abhimanyu. You hear that? Abhi. Manyu. That's about it, I was goner right then and there.

•Sitara is woe and woe is me. (Hindi wala woe). South Indian, check, superclumsy, check, loves quizzes? Check competitive? That's me, socially awkward? Yeah right sounds like someone we know *smirks*

• Now now, Abhimanyu is AMAZING. My gorgeous cinammon roll, you should dump Sitara and come date me. (Said what I said besides AstroZone agrees with me)

•Abhimanyu loves astrology and works only according to the life dictated by stellar predictions whereas Sitara is all science-ey in this matter. Basically, 'he did ballet and she was goth' situation. I'm not complaining tho.

•j'adore Sitara's friends can't help it.

•LOTS OF A. R. REHMAN references that had me on hook. Is it even a book about South Indians if we don't have a seperate section dedicated to the Mozart of Madras???! If not, it's blasphemy.

•Sitara is right, Tamil Rehman songs are So MUCH BETTER THAN HINDI ONES. fight. Me.

•The story is slow sure, but I read it in a day so yay champs, you get invested in this real soon.

•If that is how corporate world treats women, we need to step up our game and dethrone lots of Johns in there.

•We have not one, but two Tom Bentons (aka chaps who get their backside handed to them by female co-workers who were wronged by said chaps)

•Abhimanyu likes to sing and I was like, here, take my money. (ps. He sings Raabta like boy, how good can you get?)

•No smut but you know what, I'll take it. Please and thanks.

•I love love love this book for reasons quite literally written in the stars.

•PS, I believe in stellar predictions. Tell me I'm wrong all you want *shrugs*

Written in the stars is a lighthearted, humorous book. Sitara the protagonist and her love interest Abhimanyu in the story are the most lovable and memorable characters which connects with the readers instantly. Both the charactets are so adorable that as a kid, I immediately rooted for these two crazy kids to get together.

I totally admire the author's sense of humor. In many places you can't stop yourself laughing out loud. Their are some moments which might not be too intense in terms of love but you do feel weak in your knees.

This book has dealt with every emotion and relationship so beautifully that inspite of having some grey shades in few of the characters, you still find them likable.

No.

What’s with the character introduction and what’s with the characters’ problem?

Tried to show so much off while not coming to the actual plot.

And the guy’s introduction like he’s the only hot guy everyone must fall for got me like I needed to stop reading the book. The story seems so overfamiliar.

Moving on…

Written in the stars is a unique romantic comedy that is based on one’s belief in astrology. Sitara who is aiming for her promotion uses her boss’s astrology as a chance to progress and approve her proposal. Meanwhile Abhimanyu her boss is silently falling for her because his astrology suggests that she is the one for him.

Sitara in the urge of getting the promotion upsets her friends and is ignored by them because of her manipulative character. During the time period, where there was no one with Sitara, Abhimanyu stood beside her.

The start of the book was a bit slow and I wasn’t able to connect with Sitara because she somehow felt like a self-centred character who only focused on her work and herself. I loved how the Author has given references of different sitcoms, legendary musicians, literature and sports in the book via the form of trivia. The thing which I didn’t like the most in this book was that the humour felt like a forced one. As if the plot was trying to make this book a bit funny but it wasn’t adding up to the charm.

In the ending, I was finally able to connect with Sitara and I loved how she accepted her flaws and won over her friends and Abhimanyu. It was a good light romantic comedy read.

Divya Anand's 'written in the stars' is a witty and heartwarming love story of two individuals.

The writer herself is a product manager and has sewn a beautiful story of love, friendship and life as a corporate manager.

The story starts with Sitara, struggling to get promotion, despite working hard and entry of Abhimanyu as Marketing head, who apparently is a man who reads his horoscope before he does anything.

Now Sitara uses this to her own advantage and falls in love and Abhimanyu reciprocates the same but there is a complication that at some point they are guided by the horoscope that might have brought them closer to each other.

The book has adorable characters, trivia enthusiast, witty profiles, toxic colleagues (who add to the fun). The story is simple but sweet.

You can binge read on a lazy day, with some snacks on your couch...

Generally, Indian authors tend to write romance in such a westernized way that I can't help rolling my eyes at instances which I know can never take place in India.

So contrary to my early apprehensions, I ended up enjoying this book! It took me a while to get into it but then I was hooked, turning the pages in a flurry, waiting to see what would happen next.

In the opening scene, we get acquainted with Sitara, looking like a drenched cat and a total disaster. Her day hasn't been the best and her competitive streak at Trivia nights isn't getting her any points, both from a personal and game pov.

Desparately hoping for a promotion at her workplace, she runs into the new marketing head, the person she was least expecting to see.

Abhimanyu Singh is obsessed with arranging his professional and personal life around his horoscope of the day. In a bid to get the most sought after promotion, Sitara starts manipulating his schedule to fix meetings with him by checking his horoscope in advance and ends up losing sight of other important things in her life, including her friends.

With chapter names straight out of clichéd horoscopes and fateful encounters thanks to Bangalore's weather, here's what I liked-
🌿Pop culture refs
🌿Description of food
🌿Laugh out loud moments
🌿No insta love with gradual flow of romance
🌿Depiction of office politics with brainstorming sessions
🌿Bits of Tamil

What I didn't like-
🌿Felt the disaster to be over the top at times reminiscent to Sophie Kinsella's books
🌿The company name could've been original 😭
🌿The initial pace

All in all, I quite enjoyed it but found Sitara's friends to be jerks with equal contribution to miscommunication between them (it's the authors choice so not a con per se).

This book was an awesome read.

The story was great - office, work, stress, love, friendships, bosses and slime balls all put into one book. Totally Indian - English but the meanings are mentioned for non English words, so anyone can enjoy it.

Referrences are made to certain things only Indians may connect with but non Indians will understand anyway.

The grammar is well edited and I'm happy reading a good book in English by an Indian author.

Oh yeah! The end will surely bring a smile on your face!

'Written In The Stars', authored by Divya Anand, made for a very absorbing read. It held me in its grip as I went on a tour with the protagonists Sitara and Abhimanyu to understand how much life and love are dependent on our choice or written in the stars.

Started the book with a prejudice nothing much to look forward to but it managed to beat my notions. I was involved and hooked and was completely out of the world with a meticulously picked flaw in the hero his belief in astrology... didn't see that coming the way it did.

Disclaimer: I love rom-coms.

It’s difficult to find well-written rom coms set in india. Divya does a great job of creating characters, dialogues and adding a pinch of drama to the romance. Loved the scenes set at the pub and a special mention of the fantastic team names!

This book is recommended for college or high school people who want to have an insight into what corporate job life looks like, its pros and cons and obviously romance. Its easy to understand English gives it a easy read and non requirement of looking up in dictionary provided me a peace of satisfaction. For a crazy book lover like me, who loves to hoard books instead of read them has already finished 100 pages of readdd!!! Yess, a positive sign.

Visualise this, its a beautiful Sunday afternoon. A cup of hot tea by your side and a light read in your hand. So relaxing this scene looks, right? “Written in the Stars” is just that book you need to bring this scene into a reality.

Without giving away the story, let me tell you a bit about the storyline. Sitara- is a girl with a dream and a desire to grow. Can bend ways to get where she wants to but what happens in the transit. Abhimanyu- a typical boss topped with good looks to drool over. He has a weakness, he strongly believes in horoscope and the stars. Sitara has got hold of this weakness and is using it to her advantage to climb the corporate ladder. But when there is a good looking boy and an independent smart girl, romance is suppose to bloom right? But now Sitara is in a fix- she has to pick one, love or the promotion that she has been struggling for such a long time.

My take on the book: “Written in the Stars” by Divya Anand is a Romantic Comedy about life, corporate competition and love, all tossed well with the seasoning of astrology. This is Divya Anand’s 2nd novel and as a writer she has done a fantastic job. She has refrained from the cheesy lovey-dovey romance and given it a refreshing touch of horoscopes and stars. The language and the editing is perfect. Aah! that makes me so happy when I read a book. She has kept the story interesting with humor, trivia quiz which will get you racking your brains too and rom-com, which will want you to keep turning the pages.

Sitara has been scripted as a head strong, career oriented and an avid quizzer, making her completely likeable. All the characters have done justice to the story. The Astrology angle gives and interesting take to the book, making it stand out from the otherwise typical rom-com books.

The book took me to my office days where work was mixed with gossip and some samosa and chai to go with it. If you enjoy a light and quick read, this is surely for you. Weekend is around the corner, so order your copy here and get ready to have a relaxed reading this book.

I give it a good 4 out of 5 stars.

Written in the Stars is what happens when a curly-haired Sitara with a fierce competitive streak reaches a tricky point in her career and has to construe wild imaginative ideas to get her way ahead. Her crush Abhimanyu Singh turns out to be her astrology-obsessed boss and like a woman-possessed Sitara is suddenly consulting his horoscope to schedule meetings and plan launches.

She brushes her friends the wrong way and takes advantage of Abhimanyu’s vulnerability hurting everyone in the process. Is he naïve to not see through her devious plan? Can Sitara trade everything dear to her for a promotion? Is our destiny really written in the stars? This book is a fun take on these seemingly ‘serious’ questions.

My thoughts:

Set in Bangalore, this book promises a fun read right from the first sentence. Grappling with the punishing name picked out by her toddler elder sister, Sitara is at ease with herself amongst her friends while guzzling down either a beer or a Starbucks coffee. Her extreme competitive attitude is endearing at first and reaches astronomically crazy proportions as she foresees losing out her promotion to her manipulative colleague, Dhruv.

Written in the Stars has a lot of interesting elements that bring the story beautifully together. The challenges of a start-up, the process of product-design, everyday office politics and unrequited love make it seem like a real experience. Girl-bonding is the best thing at the centre of all this madness. Kavya is the darling friend we all need in our lives and Inaya is the cute niece anyone would want to have around.

Abhimanyu Singh, despite his strange astrology obsession is irresistible. His self-assuredness and chiselled features make you fall head over heels in love with him. The best part about this book though is the trivia night. I found myself wishing for their week to roll faster so I could see what’s in store for them. I hope George visits Mumbai and gives us a try too. Just kidding!

To sum up, expect loads of laughs in this book and some sullen moments to balance them out. Even stars twinkle, don’t they?
