This book begins with a very important chapter - “Wow! You’re Getting a Puppy!,” which includes key information about qualities to look for in a puppy, the best time to bring home a puppy, what to avoid when getting a puppy, preparing your home, essential supplies, and finally, introducing the puppy to your home.

Then it’s on to basic training commands, like sit, stay, lie down, and come. Every time a command is taught, Malcom breaks it down into steps so it is easy to follow. The book also explains potty training, crate training and socialization. Other commands that are taught in a later chapter include wait, get off, watch me, drop it, take it, quiet, and more.

Malcom discusses fun indoor games like fetch, find, shell game, which hand, etc. then he goes into explaining Next outside games like agility training and hide and seek.

If all that wasn’t fun enough, Chapter 5 explains teaching your dog how to do tricks like shake hands, cross your paws, ring the bell, spin, and more.

Malcom devotes a whole chapter to potential training mistakes and how to remedy them. And there is a chapter on how to care for your puppy.

This is an excellent book for kids and for adults as well. It covers a lot of basics but also teaches commands and games you can play with your dog.

Thank you to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book not only gives excellent tips on how to train a puppy but also how to know if you are ready for a puppy and what kind of puppy suits your lifestyle. A big plus was at the end of each chapter the key points were listed so it was easy to go back for a quick reference.

Also, even though it says it is for kids it is a great source for adults too.

Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.

A complete and resourceful book

“How to Train your Puppy for Kids” is an updated, thoroughgoing book written by Andrew Malcom. It aims at guiding kids to train their new pet.

The reader is lovable and perfect from the very first page: it is beautifully illustrated and it contains QR codes that lead book owners to a Facebook group of a community of trainers, among other great websites. It also contains a brief and clear manual on how to use this book, which is perfect for both parents and children.

I loved the book because it turns the unforgettable moment of making a pet a new family member into a valuable learning experience. The book is perfect for family time since it can be understood by the whole family. It gives an excuse for family gathering and for creating a life-long memory. It also teaches children to be responsible and it fosters cooperation, teamwork and independence at the same time.

Purchasing this book was more than a worthwhile investment to me, and this is why I recommend it.

Wonderful!

Just from the first chapter, I could already tell that this was going to be a must-have if I ever decided to get a puppy (as opposed to an older dog from a shelter). Mr. Malcom brings up so many good points! Ones I did not even think about until I read them. One of the things that stood out to me was the when to get a puppy. The author advises that, while holidays are a typical time to present the family with the gift of a puppy, it can cause unnecessary stress on all involved, including the puppy. Malcom makes many valid points such as this and I can tell he is quite an expert in the situation. What I love most is that he does not exclude the children. He even points out that it is vital the children be a part of everything in relation to training the puppy. I truly enjoyed this book and will recommend it to anyone, whether they have children or not. That is how good the information in it is.

“How to train your puppy for kids” is a fun guide that teaches us how to train a puppy. The book is addressed to children and adolescents who have welcomed a new friend and want to establish a unique bond with the latest family member.
The reading is entertaining and the advice and steps are very easy to follow. The descriptions and explanations are accompanied by graphs and drawings making them simple to understand and attractive for children. The book also contains a list of tips to facilitate the accomplishment of each stage in the training process.
We have been able to make a big change in our family after buying this book since we were very disorganized with the puppy running free around the house. Now, my child has learned to be responsible training the dog and they enjoy their time together.

Such a great book that can engage the kids greatly. With clear pictures and simple step-by-step procedures, the book tends to educate the little ones about their new best friend. The better part is that the tips and tricks are about training and building a bond between the kid and the pup. It indeed helps the children be responsible and know the value of taking care of their loved ones. Bringing a new member into the house can sometimes be overwhelming, a little bit of preparation is all that is needed and this book can be a savior for both kids and grownups. To anyone who wants a new pup or who already has one, it must grab this “pawsome” read.

My sister decided to adopt a puppy and this book seemed ideal for her, because she has a 3-year-old son. "How to train your puppy for kids" is a fun book with everything we need to know to train our new dog member. Involving children in raising a dog is essential, no one says it is an easy task, but it is not impossible.
Step by step the author Malcom explains the different tricks that we can teach our new members. I loved this book because the truth is that I saw a few readings where children are included to train the puppies. That is why I recommend this book and give it 5 stars out of 5.

How to train your puppy is definitely a must-read book for children and for parents as well if they are thinking of enlarging the family with a dog friend. I've read it to my nephews and they absolutely loved it as the different sections accompany them throughout the adoption process of their new puppy. Andrew Malcom, the author of the book, adopts such a clear and friendly style that makes it perfect for the children and also for parents who want to explain and help once their puppy is at home. I really enjoyed the section where Malcom explains how to teach our puppies to do their business outside and how to make some fun tricks. It's easy to follow and entertaining from the beginning.

How to train your puppy for kids is a great tool that we are using at home. We have a new puppy and it was not easy at first to educate him. That’s why we ended up reading this book and putting into practice the advice that Andrew Malcom gives here.
The narrative is simple but interesting. I really like that it is aimed at kids because this way they can participate in the process. Most things about training a dog are for adults.
The drawings certainly add a plus to the book. The ideas are well explained and separated into clear points. I surely recommend reading this book because I believe that it’s helpful.

How to train your puppy for kids by Andrew Malcom is a guide that will give you different tricks and an extensive guide so that the little ones of the house can learn properly how to train the puppy. It also helps the children bond with the animal in a fun way.
This was an excellent way for my kids to interact with the dog but also, and not least important, it gave them responsibility… This way my children know that the dog is under their care, and they feel a great commitment! The book is really fun to read, and it is very easy for kids to understand as well. It has a lot of information for adults that can help train your oldest dogs. I recommend this guide with 100% satisfaction

This is an excellent book for anyone wishing to train a puppy. I recommend this book for adults as well as children. It is easy to understand and covers all bases of dog training. Since I have 2 six-month old puppies, I plan to incorporate this book in our daily training rituals and use it as a standard I can refer back to when needed. Highly recommend!
