Aerthlan’s five Embraced queens have reigned for twenty years, in peace secured by the power of their magic. But now a new and insidious threat has appeared, to test a new generation.
DESIRE AND DECEPTION
All Princess Eviana needs is an escape. Possessed of an unfortunate and unusual Embraced gift, which she’s been banned from using, she required no training. Now, her overprotective parents want her to wed. As a result, the palace is crammed with obnoxious noblemen. . . . Until Quentin, the enigmatic eagle shifter and royal spy, maneuvers several of the unsuitable suitors into revealing their most embarrassing secrets before the court. Finally, Eviana has an excuse to free herself. If only her family knew the blow that’s shaken her: golden-eyed Quentin’s refusal to let her near . . .
Heroic, but low born, Quentin’s infatuation with Eviana is as inappropriate as it is unshakable. He must keep away from her, for his own sake. But after a series of suspicious deaths, and the princess’s narrow escape from kidnapping, Quentin knows that only together can they expose the danger stalking Aerthlan’s Embraced. On foot, in disguise, they’ll need trust and quick wits to uncover the vicious conspiracy closing around them. But finding the truth might break down their own defenses as well . . .
Kerrelyn Sparks apparently has issues with reality. After writing more than a dozen books about vampires, she has now completely gone off the deep end and wound up on another planet. But how thrilling that she can share this magical new world with her readers! Although she is best known (so far) for the Love at Stake series, which has hit as high as number 5 on the New York Times list and 22 on the USA Today list, she hopes her readers will love The Embraced as much as they did her merry band of vamps and shifters. To learn more about her paranormal, historical, and upcoming out-of-this-world fantasy romances, please visit Kerrelyn on Facebook, Twitter, or her website at www.kerrelynsparks.com.
Kerrelyn loves hearing from readers, even those who howl at the moon. Letters may be sent to P.O. Box 5512, Katy, TX 77491-5512. If you would like bookmarks and signed bookplates, please mail a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope to her P.O. Box, and she will send those items to you.
When a Princess Proposes by Kerrelyn Sparks Fantasy. Spin off from the Embraced series aka Embraced by Magic #6. Second generation. The children from the Isle of Secrets are now grown as are the children of the original sisters / Queens of the Embraced nations.
Eviana has grown up very sheltered and feels trapped by the gentle handcuffs of her parents protecting her. Quentin has been in love with Evie for years. When an idea to help caused problems within the kingdom, the two end up on an investigation and adventure that changes everything.
It was wonderful revisiting this world. And learning that an ability may be based on what is needed at the time is intriguing. Specifically the abilities in this book, more than previous were unusual. I admit I felt bad for The Confessor.
Loved the adventure and conclusion. At least for now. Satisfying, a momentary sad, and happiness overall.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I own the full series and will buy this as well to keep.

*~*~*Notes*~*~* I was slightly confused with all of the newly introduced children. This spinoff series is about them and their HEAs. I typed up these notes for myself, but figured others would benefit from them. Hope this helps 😁
I don’t like series. I just don’t! After the 3rd book or so something happens. I can’t explain it, and it’s most likely my fault/mood, but I am terrible at completing a series. However… Kerrelyn Spark’s Embraced collection seems to somehow keep me entertained and coming back for more. I just can’t get enough of this Aerthlan world.
Something about this story is simple yet enchanting. It balances feel good romance with a sprinkle of action and conflict. It’s enough to distract from the stress of everyday life, without putting the story’s burden on the reader. You get me? Hopefully this is making a little bit of sense.
Moving on to the Embraced world.
Twice a year, one of the two moons of Aerthlan eclipses (or Embrace) the other. Children who are born when the moons embrace are gifted with a magical power. These children are called the Embraced. For many years, the kings on the mainland actively sought our those who were embraced out of fear. Fear of their power. Fear of what they may do. To be embraced meant a death sentence, and many were killed. However, some were whisked off and hidden on the Isle of Moon. This is where our five Embraced queens come from. Their stories and adventure come from the original five books. Now Kerrelyn Sparks is revealing their children’s Happily Ever Afters.
20 years later
“She might not know it, but she could take on the world”
In we met Luciana and Leo who reside and rule in Eberon. In we get their (now an adult) daughter’s HEA. Princess Eviana is the innocent, sheltered, and overprotected daughter everyone would expect having read the previous books. She has been hidden and isolated most of her life for multiple reasons. Her character grows and evolves quite beautifully in this story. She comes into her power and fights for what SHE wants *cough* *cough* Quentin. It’s not often we get to read about a heroine who does the pursuing 😉
"Heroic, but low born, Quentin’s infatuation with Eviana is as inappropriate as it is unshakable."
Quentin, our hero, is The Master Spy and eagle shifter. He is an asset to the five royal houses; always among them but never one of them. Because of his social standing, although he’s loved Eviana from afar for many years, he restrains himself from pursuing her. So it’s up to Eviana to take matters into her own hands… hence the title 😉😉😉
When a Princess Proposes is an enjoyable read with fantasy, action, suspense, romance, and humor sprinkled throughout. It’s not flashy with action, full of angst/drama, or heavy with content. What you’ll get is a nice light read to immerse yourself in.
“This ordeal was not over. It was, in fact, just beginning.”
Bring on the next book! I have a feeling it will be about Brigitta & Rupert’s daughter, Roslyn 😅🤞. And after that maybe Faith and Eric???

I had a lot of fun with this book! I have been a fan of this series from the start and was really excited to learn that there would be books featuring the younger generation. I just love the world that these books are set in and the various abilities that the characters possess. This book had all of the action, excitement, and romance that I hoped it would have.
Eviana is a princess and has lived a rather sheltered life and nobody knows what her powers might be. Quinn is an eagle shifter who works as a messenger and spy for the different realms. Quinn has been in love with Evianna for years but feels like he is beneath her. When they go on a mission together they get all the time together that they need to really get to know each other. I really liked Eviana and Quinn and thought that they had a lot of chemistry together.
I loved that this book features not only a wonderful romance but also an exciting plot. I was really worried for the characters several times during the story. They proved to be very brave and worked incredibly well as a team. I liked that we get to see a bit into the life the villains of the story live. I thought that seeing their motivations added a lot to the story. The secondary characters were fantastic and I was thrilled to see not just one but two romances worked into this story.
I would recommend this book to others. Once I started reading this book, I didn’t want to put it down. I love the world-building and the creative abilities of many of the characters in this series. I cannot wait to read more books set in this world.
I received a digital review copy of this book from Kensington Books via NetGalley.
Initial Thoughts I had fun with this book! I have been a fan of this series from the start and was really excited to learn that there would be books featuring the younger generation. I liked the characters a lot and thought that their abilities were really unique and interesting. Eviana and Quentin were perfect for each other and had a lot of chemistry. There was plenty of excitement to keep the pages turning quickly.
This review may contain spoilers, so fair warning, upon reading the review.
First Impressions I felt so blessed to be able to have been gifted this ARC from the publisher on this one here, I was so thrilled to see that Sparks decided to continue the series, and I didn’t know if she would or not, as there has been a long length of time since the last one in the series “The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea” What we get with this one though, is a continuation of the series that features the children of the couples in the first five books of the Embraced series. I was really fascinated by this one here though, and I adored the cover of this one here too. This was quite an interesting story though, and even though I didn’t quite love it like some of the previous books, it was still a solid story. And it features some fun tropes such as “road trip adventure” and “unrequited love” which are two of my favorites. I don’t get a chance to read road trip adventures too often, but I was in love with the way that this one was written and seeing this romance blossom.
Summary Princess Eviana has always felt like the black sheep where her gift is concerned. She is the daughter of Luciana and Leo, but her gift is dangerous and many fear what she would do with it. Even her family has kept her shielded and locked away. But now she is of age to marry and is now able to venture out in the world, Then enters our hero, Quentin, who is valuable but he is also low born and has loved Eviana for years but has stayed in the shadows, yearning for a woman he can never have. But when he reaches out to protect her and reveals the true intents of her suitors at a ball, secrets of the royal family are revealed but becomes a turning point for Eviana to be herself and find the freedom to fly her wings from her overprotective family. When there are suspicious deaths happening and the princess is almost taken captive, Eviana and Quentin begin a journey together in discovering the true intent of the villain, and they discover their enemy wishes to destroy all fo the embraced. That the peace that has been cultivated for years, could be lost. But will Quentin’s secret be revealed in trying to protect her here? Will his love be revealed and when it does will Eviana fight for the man who deserves a HEA just as she does?
What I Loved There were so many things to this story that I was all the way in for. I was so stunned by the way that this author wrote this unrequited love. I absolutely adore unrequited love and it was done so well here. And I really respected that Sparks didn’t drag it all the way out. Eviana learns of it and even though there is this forbidden love, with their class difference, Eviana becomes such a fighter for the relationship. She knows what they have together is powerful and worth fighting for. Seeing Eviana go about attempting to court Quentin, was beyond adorable. I understood where Quentin was coming from though. I understand why he didn’t feel he was worthy of her, but Eviana doesn’t see it that way. Quentin has protected her for years and sees who she really is when her own family doesn’t see the power and passion she is capable of and what a leader she is. Quentin understands Eviana and only wants her to break free and show what she is capable of and doesn’t stand in her way when it matters to her. The plot of the story was well done and we do get a POV from the villain so that was really interesting. I was intrigued by the way this story was built and what was hinted at for future books. The romance between Quentin and Eviana was beautiful, and so many sweet and sexy moments were built. The chemistry was well done, but it is more slowly built due to the forbidden nature of the relationship and Quentin being so resistant to them being together. But seeing their HEA and how they achieve it …well it was just BEAUTIFUL IN EVERY WAY!
What I Struggled With I will say that the pacing is the only real aspect to this story that could have been improved upon. It’s what kept it from a five-star read for me, it just didn’t quite engage me quite as much as I was expecting considering the last book in the series completely I couldn’t put down.
Overall View When A Princess Proposes was a magnificent read, that combines themes that are built within this fantastical world that Sparks has grown so beautifully. It’s a story of adventure, hidden love, and embracing one’s self!
I was so excited to learn that Kerrelyn Sparks was adding to the world of the Embraced and jumped at the chance to read an advanced copy of the newest book When a Princess Proposes. The series continues with the children of the Embraced fighting against new enemies and old grudges. Twenty years have passed since the conclusion of the last book, and the leaders have ruled a peaceful land. However, a new threat is exposed when the Embraced begin to die under unusual circumstances.
Princess Eviana has been sheltered and overprotected since she gained her powers, which are kept hidden. Isolated and raised to fear her power, Eviana longs for freedom. Quentin is an Embraced spy who has the ability to shift into an eagle. He has loved Princess Eviana for years but is not of noble birth and feels unworthy. Can he keep his feelings in check when he and Eviana, along with two others, travel and work together to find out who is targeting their kind?
I loved Eviana and Quentin. They are such layered and interesting characters, and I found both of their stories compelling. Though their lives were very different, they share many of the same feelings about their circumstances. However, their personalities are very different, and there are definite grumpy/sunshine vibes between the two. Eviana is so optimistic, extroverted, and expressive. Quentin is quiet, brooding, and solitary. They seem like opposites, but for some reason, they work.
The romance between Aviana and Quentin is slow-building, high angst, and filled with chemistry. The banter between this pair is fabulous. They have so many great conversations, some funny and teasing, and others serious, intimate, and vulnerable, and their love story is fantastic. Of course, their budding relationship is not without its obstacles, both internal and external, especially when it comes to Quentin’s doubt and feelings of unworthiness. I like that Aviana takes charge and fights for what she wants and shows Quentin just how worthy he is. There is another romance in the story that is equally lovely, though it is more of a friends-to-lovers story. The way one finds out about the other’s feelings is super swoon-worthy, and the professions of his feelings throughout the story are fantastic.
I also really liked the secondary characters, especially Lady Olana. She has an amazing gift and is feared by many. Like the protagonists, Olana lives a solitary and lonely life, and I so wanted her to find happiness. The story also includes many of the primary characters from other Embraced books, and I really enjoyed learning what happened to these couples. Since twenty years passed between the last book and this one, you really get to see how their relationships have grown and changed, and they are all wonderful additions to this story.
There’s another fascinating character, and I don’t want to go into too much detail and spoil anything, but the moral greyness of this person is perfection. I love characters with redemption arcs, and his road to redemption is brave and honorable. I have a feeling we’re going to see a lot more of this Enchanted as the series continues. The character goes through so much in the story, and his realizations and lessons learned are very powerful. I think this character and his arc highlights the nefarious manipulations and abuse of the villains. His story also shows how effective some are at brainwashing and using propaganda for their own personal gain and desire for power.
The majority of the story finds Eviana, Quentin, Olana, and one other on an amazing journey where they learn more about themselves, each other, their world, and their enemies. They uncover treacherous plots and are thrust into increasingly dangerous and deadly situations. The suspense and intrigue slowly build to a nail-biting climax, and no one is safe. It’s an exciting romance with magic, action, intrigue, dragons, shifter, unique powers, and an epic romance, and it entertained me from beginning to end. I loved the characters and the romances and can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Thanks so much to Kensington Books, NetGalley, and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I wasn’t expecting this to be such an action filled adventure, and I’m not complaining! There was something happening with every turn of the page. I didn’t want to set it down.
The heroine had quite a unique ability but it could cut like a double edged sword and I did worry how it was all going to play out in the long run. The hero had that “I’m not good enough for her” syndrome which is not my favorite. However, I did understand his reasoning as they were from different backgrounds which mattered in this time and place.
There was a lot of humor mixed in with the danger and drama which added to my enjoyment of the story. The little bits of sweet counterbalanced the heavy weight of the rest of the storyline. While there were moments of steam between this hero and heroine, it did not dominate the story. This was actually a very slow burn.
Overall, a cute, fun, adventurous read!

I love that we are getting to the children's story now. I think this world the author has built is fun and has that childhood fairytale storyline, but with a bit of adult content. It just makes for a fun read.
Our heroine, Eviana is the daughter of Luciana and Leo from book 1 of the Embraced series. She has that innocence of a sheltered princess. She also has a pretty, powerful ability that could potentially make her dangerous to others. You really get to see her embrace that power, and go from a sheltered princess to a hero.
Our hero, Quentin is also embraced with the power to shift to an eagle, which makes him a powerful spy for the royals. He's been in love with Eviana for years but does not feel worthy for her station. That will be the biggest struggle for this couple to overcome while they battle an evil that wants to rid this world of the royal family.
This is a big fantasy world this author has created and a lot of story to be told. I look forward to where she takes us next.
Three and a half I thoroughly enjoyed the previous Embraced stories and I’m delighted that the author has now gone twenty years or so into the future to give readers books about the next generation. Eviana is the much protected Princess, innocent to a point that’s irritating and naive to boot ! Her power is this huge secret that only close family know and because of this she is closeted at home and forbidden to actually use it ! Quentin is a shape changer and uses his eagle form to act as the Kings spy. He’s from a humble background and knows he’s never going to be a true part of the Court but that doesn’t prevent him loving the beautiful, charming Princess who can never know of his feelings. When an underground cult try to kidnap Eviana it’s Quentin who finds her and Eviana suggests/persuades him to help her but sadly her secretive power has been discovered and things escalate putting many more lives at risk ! You have probably guessed from my opening remarks about Eviana that she wasn’t my sort of heroine. However I did like Quentin and several supporting characters made me sit up and take notice . Perhaps a little slow for my personal taste but things certainly perked up when a Raven shifter and his family were introduced to the storyline. Of course it’s a happy ending for the young couple with the King almost having his Solomon moment which definitely made me smile. I very much look forward to what I’m guessing might be a revenge story next but sincerely hope that the heroine is a lot more outgoing than Eviana. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
From the very first book in the Embraced series, I have been a die-hard fan of the Aerthlan world and the magically gifted rulers of its five kingdoms. So imagine my elation when I came upon book no.6 of the series - a second generation story.
Ever since her powers manifested on her thirteenth birthday, Princess Eviana has been forced to live a sheltered life, and her magical gift kept a closely guarded secret by her parents, the King and Queen of Eberon. As an eagle shifter, Quentin's gift makes him invaluable as a royal spy and an official messenger for the five kingdoms. Despite being desperately in love with Evie, Quentin considers his lowly status makes him ineligible for a princess and so stays on the sidelines, watching her from afar. But when danger strikes, throwing them together in an adventure, the mismatched pair realize that they have more in common with each other than they thought.
The story picks up twenty years after the last book and has all the elements that made the Embraced series a big hit among fantasy lovers - a brooding hero and a feisty heroine with unique magical powers, and mystery, angst and romance galore. The plot follows the same formula as the previous books wherein the protagonists join hands to fight a common enemy and save their kingdom, falling in love in the process. It was a tad disappointing though that Lady Olana who, I had hoped, owing to her powers, would be more prominent in the book was only given a supporting role. Moreover, her romance with Elam was also depicted in broadstrokes and was fairly rushed. The Raven, a conflicted character was the most interesting one in the plot and I look forward to seeing more of him in the coming books.
Though the book can be read as a standalone, considering the multiple references to characters and events from the previous books, IMO, it would make better sense to read those first for a better appreciation of the story, characters and the Aerthlan world. And with more second generation characters introduced in this plot, I am hoping for more books to follow.
Overall, a fab addition to an already wonderful series. Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington books for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Since the fall of the Circle of Five peace has reigned on Aerthlan, but now twenty years later, the Seer, Queen Maeve has been having haunting dreams and visions that foretell trouble brewing, especially for the Embraced and King Leo of Eberon. So she sends the royal messenger, an eagle shifter named Quentin to warn King Leo of Maeve’s dreams.
Quentin is both excited and dreads his trip to Eberon because it will bring him in the proximity of the one and only woman who owns his heart – Princess Eviana. Someone who could never be his as he a nobody, an illegitimate sone of servants, but that doesn’t stop his heart from longing for her. He arrives at the castle during King Leo’s birthday celebration and sees Eviana dancing with one of her many suitors. Quen is jealous, but stays in the shadows just watching her – until his friend and fellow Embraced, Lady Olana finds him. Olana’s gift is to make people confess their secrets with just a touch and is the only person who knows Quen is in love with Eviana. She urges him to dance with Eviana, but instead, Quen decides to show Eviana that none of her suitors are worthy of her and convinces Olana to help him, they dance and she “accidentally” touches the would-be suitors and they confess their secrets in front of the entire gathering. But things don’t go as planned when Eviana rushes out of the room.
Eviana has led a very sheltered life and feels trapped. When her suitors begin confessing their secrets, she uses the commotion to run to her sanctuary and escape the pressure to find a husband. When Quentin comes looking for her to apologize, she is drawn to him and asks him to be her friend, a request he immediately rejects and takes off. Later her parents decide after the fiasco at the ball, that it might be best for Eviana to leave for a bit and send her off to visit Norveshka. But when her barge is attacked and she uses her Embraced gift, it is Quen who comes to her rescue. Quen has learned some disturbing news, someone is killing the Embraced and he is going to inform King Leo when he sees the royal barge under attack. When he finds Eviana, it is clear someone was trying to capture her and he is sure it is the same people killing the Embraced. Despite his misgivings, he and the princess must work together to find out who is targeting the Embraced and stop them. He just hopes he can work closely with her without revealing his secret love. For her part, Eviana is excited to use this time with Quen to convince him they are perfect for each other and protect her family from this new threat.
This is yet another well-written, fabulous installment of the Embraced/Embraced by Magic saga, filled with familiar faces and lots of new ones. The story is filled with intrigue, magic, dragons, shifters, great secondary characters, as well as a secondary romance, a great setup for future books, some extremely nasty villains, and finally a very sweet HEA. I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to more installments featuring the next generation of Embraced. This book is the Third (or Sixth, depending on your POV) but it is more like the beginning of a new series and can easily be read as a standalone title. If you enjoy the Fantasy/Paranormal Historical sub-genre, I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that I requested and was provided to me by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.*
I really enjoyed coming back to the world of the Embraced and getting to see what all my favorite couples have been up to for the last 20 years..
We follow Quentin a hawk shifter, and Princess Eviana as they travel in disguise to uncover a new plot to destroy the royal family and everyone that is Embraced.. I loved seeing Quentin and Evie really get to know each other and fall in love.. I also loved the relationships of the side characters Oriana especially.
While reading this I laughed ALOT.. There is a part in the beginning when Evie's suitors are all spilling their worst secrets and it had me smiling and laughing out loud.. This story was cute and heartwarming all with this overall feeling of tension as they are on this mission to find out who is behind the deaths of the Embraced.
I can't wait to see whose story we get next! I hope we get one for all of the kids of the original couples.. and that Raven will get his own HEA.
When a Princess Proposes takes place twenty years after the big battle on the Isle of Secrets. The intervening years have been filled with peace for our ruling couples and their kingdoms, however Queen Maeve has seen a new threat on the horizon. The embraced are in trouble. This book follows Eviana, the daughter of Queen Luciana and King Leo and Quentin, who was one of the embraced children liberated from the Isle of Secrets. Quentin has secretly been in love with Eviana for six years and doesn't think he is worthy of her. When Eviana is put in danger the two of them team up to deal with the threat and ofcourse adventure and love ensue. I loved getting to meet a grown up Eviana and am looking forward to more adventures of this new generation of embraced. This was a fantastic addition to this series!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I liked the role reversal in this one. That along with the talent of saying your biggest secret made for some great fun while reading. The secret part mostly made me laugh, but I'm sure if you were the person that caused it, it would be hell, like what was described. I love that this person found happiness in the end.
It was easy to see why Quentin was so enamored with Eviana and why he thought he wasn't good enough for her. I love how it was fixed at the end and the speed at which the parents went.
On a side note, the discussion at the tavern on how to get a girl baby or boy baby was so much fun, really gave the couple something to think on.
The Embraced series just keeps putting you on the edge of your seat! This book picks up with the next generation of embraced while still bringing in the originals that we know and love. Someone is killing off embraced young adults in order to diminish the powers, but things get intense when it is obvious that someone is after the Eberoni Princess! Great plotting to keep you intrigued and engaged coupled with wonderfully developed characters that once again draw you in and keep you interested in their unique perspectives to the story! Toss in a little light romance and you have a sweet romance wrapped in an intriguing paranormal suspense to keep you delightfully entertained for hours! I can't wait to see what comes next as it seems clear to me that this storyline is far from finished!
Quentin has been in love with Princess Eviana for years but he is not a royal, Princess Eviana has felt sheltered her entire life and longs to break free. When the opportunity arises she steps up and fights for her chance to help her family and experience the freedom she so desperately needs. She enlists Quentin and two of her loyal servants to assist her on this dangerous journey. I truly enjoyed this story, it was quirky but engaging in so many ways, All the characters were interesting and you even wanted to fight for some of the bad guys and hope they would have a happy ending along with everyone else. At every turn their was danger and excitement and it kept the me very interested it what was going to happen next.

I was delighted to see the Embraced series is continuing, this time 20 years later with the next generation of Embraced characters. Though it would be best to read previous books to better understand the world building and the history of past events, its not necessary to enjoy this story.
This was another fun romp in the fantasyland of Aerthlan. There is a new danger brewing for Embraced people, with sinister new villains. I loved the new characters and the appearance of past favorites. The humor was spot on, and interjected at just the right moments. Quentin has been in love with Evie for 6 years, but she is a princess and he is a servant, and feels unworthy of her. But Evie shows us she is more than just a pretty royal. She's smart, noble and kind, and willing to risk everything to save those she loves. Evie and Quentin are forced to spend time together while they go on a mission to unearth the new danger attacking the Embraced. Their journey gets them into both dangerous and hilarious situations. I also enjoyed the secondary story of Olana, The Confessor, and was glad to see she finally finds acceptance and a true love of her own.
This series is so great because there are so many possibilities and promises of more stories to come. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series. Each one is a light, fun read with a sweet romance.
There is magic in these pages! With touches of medieval, fantasy, paranormal and romance, just really good storytelling brings it all together in stories of wonder and, yes, magic… This extension of the original series has more of what I loved….
This is Quentin and Eviana’s story and it was un-put-down-able. With all the elements this series is known for, including family, love, loyalty and humour, with Quentin involved you know it would include a healthy dose of intrigue and hopefully (not so un-requited) love. Entrusted to find any and all secrets that might threaten their realm and those they loved, the pair were united in the latest quest. No matter what the cost…
Magic didn’t mean all was well. Feelings of self-worth are waged even in a fantasy and made Quentin relatable and (still) one of my favourite characters…. ~Diane, 4 stars

I'm a big fan of this series, and I am enjoying this sequel saga so far! Though this fantasy romance didn't necessarily do anything outrageous or groundbreaking, I still enjoyed the world, and how Evie and Quen ended up together. Quen has been in love with Evie for 6 years, but has worked for the royal families for so long, that he feels he doesn't have a chance to catch his love. When Evie tries to recover from a bad night, she is ambushed on her way to her favorite place. A bigger plot is afoot, and it does tie into the previous arc of the story, so you will do best with some context. Even if you just read the one book before this one, The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea, that will give you enough context to fully understand what is going on. Can't wait for the next installment!
This book is nothing short of magical! I absolutely loved the characters. The princess is an absolute spitfire and once she sets her sights on that special eagle shifter it’s pretty much all she wrote. Okay! Not really, there are bad guys, weird guys, and even some good guys along the way, one being the aforementioned eagle shifter. But he is not alone. I absolutely loved reading the romance in the air as these two couples traveled towards the truth and their HEAs. The author kept the intensity high with plenty of action and danger, and she kept the romance alive with each emotional interlude. This book was truly captivating and I didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
When a Princess Proposes is the beginning of the next generation. I would read the others in the series because the amount of world building and previous characters mentioned, but it not necessary. This one to be honest wasn't my fav. It felt very different from the others in the series. The storyline didn't really grab my attention as much. I'm still curious to see if the series will continue.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Amazing return to the world. This sixth book in the series gives us a time skip and focuses on the next generation of the Embraced. With Kerrelyn Sparks' usual wit and unique characters, this book was an excellent adventure that I was invested in from the first page. A bit thicker in length than the rest of the books, this one definitely kept a decent pace with a mysterious band of villains and a wonderful love story to accompany it. Another favorite from the Queen of fluffy romance herself. <3
When a Princess Proposes by Kerrelyn Sparks is part of this author's Embraced by Magic series. I love when one of my favorite series gets continued on to the next generation. I totally enjoyed this book. Once again there is danger for the Embraced in Aerthlan. I found Princess Eviana's (Evie) Embraced gift quite intriguing and her bravery very impressive. Quentin's Embraced gift of being able to shift into an eagle is awesome. I like Evie and Quentin as a couple and enjoyed following along to the Happily Ever After. I look forward to the stories of more of the younger generation.
There is a reason why I buy books by certain authors without even checking the blurb. Just instant buy. Kerrilyn Sparks has been on that list for awhile and with good reason. I loved this book — just the right mixture of fantasy, romance, humor and maybe even a bit of suspense.
Omg! The second generation of the Embraced children are here! I have loved this series from the beginning and now to read Leo's and Luciana's daughter get her HEA is absolutely amazing! Once I started this book I could not put it down, and I've got the dark circles under my eyes to prove it. But it was all worth it. This story gave me all the feels. And there are some new secondary characters introduced that I would love to see them have their own story as well. Seriously. If you want an adventure filled story filled with courage and love and some heart warming moments, you need to read When a Princess Proposes. After reading this story it's got me in the mood to reread How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days, just so I can relive Leo and Luciana's love story again. I really think this is my favorite series by Kerrelyn Sparks. I'm still happy sighing because I'm so in love with this story.
I am thrilled that we are getting more books in this world. This time, led by the second generation of Embraced Royals! I was so heartbroken after The Siren and The Deep Blue Sea, thinking the series was over. It's not! And once again, here I am, rooting for all these new characters. We also get to see a foreshadowing of future couples hinting to even more sequels! What I love most about the Embraced series is how different one book is from the others. It is not the same story, again and again, just changing the couple. And, we'll probably get some enemies to lovers soon! Which is one of my favourite tropes. When a Princess Proposes was heartwarming, exciting and funny. I thought Brody couldn't be surpassed, but Quentin... he was incredibly sweet and caring. And obstinate. The perfect mix. Thank you, Kerrelyn, for writing more stories of the Embraced! <3
I was fascinated by the fairytale like world build in the novel. I quickly feel in love and couldn’t wait to see how Quentin and Eviana relationship would develop. We got the right amount on misunderstanding, cheesy lines to swoon over, and a dash o spicy to to make this romance complete.
This fast passed novel was truly a delight, even after discovering mid-reading that this is part of a series. Must have slipped when was perusing what to read. Most importantly my reading and understanding of the story was not altered, probably those that have read would be glad to see characters they know already. However, it can be read as a standalone easily.
I also found refreshing that we have author that understand characters are people! I mean that go to the toilet, eat, sleep. Makes their journey from place to place more real. As real as a book with gifted people that can shift to animal, trip you or confess your most guarded secret could get.
I’ll just say I make a terrible reviewer for advanced reader copies. These days, I only wanna read books that really appeal to me. And this book just was boring. Plus, Insta lust is almost never my thing.. I’m sure this book is fine for plenty of folks but it just didn’t grab my attention and I just don’t want to finish it. With so many great books in the world, this just isn’t worth my time. I made it about 40% in before stopping and now I’m going to stop trying to read avanced reader copies of books for authors I don’t know already.
When I first started the book, I was a little worried that it wouldn't live up to the others. I did not need to worry. The plot kept me reading and wouldn't let me put the book down. Reading about all the young children now grown helped round out the entire series. I enjoyed watching Eviana grow and forge her future. While Quentin learned to value himself. This book was great and an easy read.
