Yachtie Kenzie Anderson knows what she saw at the harbor--a woman murdered and pushed into the water. But there's not only no evidence of a crime, but there's no dead body either.
Jimmy James Gamble believes Kenzie, even if no one else does. But he senses the danger in the air and wants to keep her away from any more trouble--especially after their last charter.
Someone is willing to murder again to get what he wants--which brings them all to a dead reckoning as they navigate unfamiliar waters.
Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.
Kenzie Anderson wasn't sure that she knew much of anything for sure . . . especially after reportedly seeing a woman strangled to death before being tossed over the side of a boat . . . especially when there was no woman in the water and no one on the boat.
But one person believed her, Jimmy James Gamble. Thank goodness for Jimmy James. Although their friendship had been strengthened through adversity, it looked like they were moving towards more . . until they weren't . . . and then they were . . . . . thrown together into the middle of yet another murderous conundrum aboard the luxury yacht, "Almost Paradise".
Kenzie and Jimmy James might have a few important details to figure out in their personal lives, but one thing was as certain as the ocean tides. . . nothing would be resolved if they didn't make it back to Lantern Beach.
A great cruise forward in this attention getting Lantern Beach Mayday series!
YAY! Another story with Kenzie and Jimmy James! I’m really loving these stories with this couple. Even though it seems they are always having crazy things happen around them, they still stand strong. I love the tension between these two, and all the many things that seem to pop up. The author isn’t giving them much breathing room! Trouble seems to find them and follow them wherever they go. Christy Barritt takes her characters on so many adventures. How does she think of all these things? This story has a wave of crimes that just don’t seem to end. I didn’t want to put the book down until I finished it. I really wanted to find out what was happening and who the bad guy was. Wow, what a ride! I’ve said this before, but it is so true - Christy Barritt truly is a gifted author, because her books are always so full of interesting adventures, that make it so hard to breathe. If you LOVE mystery, suspense, action, with a little bit of romance, then you will love this book! This story will keep you on the edge of your seat until you finish it. Be prepared to not put it down, even to eat or sleep! Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE THESE BOOKS! If you like twists, and turns, “who done it” stories, then you need to buy this book! I was given this book by the author which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
A good sequel! Kenzie and Jimmy James are cute in this one, trying to fall in love despite any opposition or danger headed their way. They easily put themselves at risk to help the other and it makes for great romance. Not as much time on the charter in this sequel but still lots of boats involved. The dialogue seemed kind of polite and stiff to me in this one, but still a good read.
What would you do if you thought you saw a murder and no one believes you? That's how this newest book from Christy Barritt begins - and things continue to twist and turn from there. If you like suspense stories that keep you guessing till the very end, you need to read this book. Another great Lantern Beach story!! I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.
In this second installment in the Lantern Mayday Mystery Series, Kenzie is sure she witnesses a woman being strangled and thrown overboard from a yacht docked in Lantern Beach Harbor, but when the police chief checks it out, there is no evidence of the woman or of a murder having happened. Only Jimmy James, the Charter Captain on her first trip on Almost Paradise, seems to believe that she really saw a woman die. Kenzie and Jimmy are attracted to each other, but he thinks she is too good for him because of her past, and the fact he is her boss once again on a second charter complicates things between them. Still, Jimmy James is happy that he can watch over her and keep her safe as danger lurks once again on the high seas and everyone is a suspect. Politics, family tension, blossoming love, and mysterious happenings all lead to a surprising outcome to Dead Reckoning. I look forward to the final book in this series, coming out soon!
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions are my own.
If I were honest, which I try to be. Early in the book I felt like this one wasn't going to be as good as most of Barritt's books. However, the more I read the more I enjoyed it. I didn't figure out who was behind everything until the reveal, which was EXCELLENT! And a little crazy to watch lives falling apart because of lies and deceptions.
It is fun to watch Kenzi become her own person. Like many who grow up with strong parents she's finding her own identity. I'm looking forward to where she'll end up. Likewise, Jimmy James has started growing into a better person... it's fun.
I look forward to the next installment of this series!
Disclaimer: I did receive this book from the author, but was under no obligation to provide a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Kenzie Anderson is preparing for her second charter as stew aboard ALMOST PARADISE when she hears an argument coming from the next boat over and sees a young woman being strangled. When no body is found, Kenzie once again -- with the help of Jimmy James Gamble -- starts looking into the case herself.
I'm glad this is the second in a three-part story. There's a part of me that thinks this trilogy could have been packaged as one longer novel, mainly because of the romantic elements, yet I also understand why each part is released separately. Readers will enjoy the story either way.
Christy Barritt's breadth and depth of creativity are ever expanding with each new series she gifts the reading community. Readers are offered more complexities in the personalities of Kenzie Anderson and Jimmy James Gamble while uncovering truth gems about humanity, perception, bias grace, forgiveness. All are found in this unique suspense where amateurs and professionals alike confront evil and its aftermath.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
I enjoy the characters, who are easy to relate too. I love to imagine life on an island, the small town feel, and constant access to the beach. The main characters of Christy's books are my favorites, Kenzie, Cassidy Chambers who are strong women, who, even in times of danger who, through their fears fights their way to the end. Jimmy James who is a colorful character shows that no matter your past mistakes can show what true life changes can alter your destiny when you are you really working hard to change your hearts motives.
I had a BETA Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Jimmy James is again Captain of a Charter boat out of Lantern Beach, and Kenzie is a steward on the boat. She witnesses a murder before the cruise departs, but no body is found. Christy Barritt again has written a super book with suspense and a bit of romance. The plot includes a political race and a senator. I would highly recommend reading this book.
Jimmy James is still hung up on his past and how that will affect his relationship with Kenzie making him susceptible to manipulation. She saw a murder, but without evidence or a body she isn't readily believed. She keeps getting threatened but digs into the circumstances alone. Will they work things out and capture the killer before she is done in? Clean suspense story.
Relaxing before her next yacht cruise as a steward, Kenzie witnesses a murder. Or did she? There is no evidence and no body. No one is even reported missing from the area! The intrigue thickens as the cruise gets underway. Unfortunately, Kenzie finds herself looking down the end of a gun barrel to see a rather surprising face! Get caught up in the suspense. Get to know some of my favorite new characters. Enjoy the trip!
Kenzie witnesses a murder but there is no body. Jimmy James gets the captain's job on Almost Paradise & hosts a state senator and his family, plus two bodyguards & a political strategist. Turns out, the person who arranged for the murder of the woman on the other yacht, is on board Almost Paradise. Suspenseful, but shorter than previous books. Waiting for next book in series.
A little difficult to believe. I'm not sure I believe someone can be so prone to this much trouble, and so close together. An interesting story plot. Another one where I didn't get the culprit til late in the book, though a tad quicker than the first book in the series. Jimmy James and Kenzie are still adorable. I love his protective nature. Let's see where the next book takes us.
Another good book by Christy Barritt. The hurdles that Kenzie and Jimmy James have to overcome in their relationship are very realistic, even if Kenzie always has someone out to get her. After witnessing a murder, Kenzie becomes a target. Only problem, there's no dead body to be found and no concrete evidence of a crime. Will Kenzie be able to stay alive and get justice for the woman she saw murdered?
Wow not a good combination. Kenzie dislikes her dad to the n th degree. But her dad talks Jimmy James in to doing his wish. This is after she sees a woman killed the night before on the the yacht across from them. The story begins. Just know you can’t put the book down when you start reading another great book by Christy Barritt.
I so enjoyed this book … I liked seeing Axle & Chief Chambers … I LOVE how Christy can take a tidbit of information, then skirt around it - you rush your reading to find out what’s going on! If you’re like me, You have to go back and reread it because you know you missed something! The pages just kept turning until Sunsets & lemonade
ChrIsty Barritt has another great story in Dead Reckoning. Our hero and heroine are in the crosshairs of another criminal as they work to make a charter cruise a success. There's definitely a wonderful blend of suspense, hope, faith and romance. This story has some unexpected surprises to keep the reader on their toes. Well worth reading!
I really liked this book up until when the villain is exposed. The book was a 4 at that point. Without giving too much away, some things should have been shared. But they weren't. Also the main character never mentioned what she heard, at the very beginning.
"Dead Reckoning" is the 2nd book in the Lantern Beach Mayday series and another great story by Christy Barritt. This one continues with Jimmy James and Kenzie and another mystery. This one had a small twist that I didn't see coming. Christy Barritt continues to amaze me with her writing! I highly recommend this book!
Another great book by Christy Barritt. It kept me engaged and wanting more. The characters are interesting and relatable and I like the mix of romance and mystery.
This was a good story line. Kenzie seemed really annoying in this one though. Like she was trying too hard, or trying to make something out of very little. Overall pretty good book.
I really love this new series. It has just enough suspense and intrigue to keep you interested. I can't wait for the next book to come out. I recommend this book and series.
There isn’t a Book 3! I just finished Dead Reckoning (I need italics) just after reading Run Aground. I loved the cruise ship and Lantern Beach settings. I am waiting for a movie to be made of one of Barritt’s books!
I’ll pick the underdog every time. Which team do you root for? The one that’s expected to win cause they’re “big and bad” or the team that puts in their all and just won’t give up? Join Jimmy James on this adventure, then answer my question.
I have so enjoyed this series! I love the characters and suspension.I being a dedicated Christy Barritt fan truly love how she integrates characters, places and other such things from other series. Thank you once again Christy for the entertainment! God bless you
For those with a curiosity about working a private yacht, with a taste of daring, truth and rough going. Complications and adversity don't always come from the sea or the weather but often have the taint of people who choose wrong over right.
This series involves a luxury yacht and the adventures aboard. Murder, danger and intrigue are are the main points while relationships take a backseat. I'm looking forward to the conclusion to the series.
This is the second book in this series. I love reading Christy's books the lantern beach books are great looking forward to reading another of her books
