There is more than one kind of magic. There’s real magic, if we believe in it and in our friends. Today is Jimmy and Johnny Honeycutt’s twentieth birthday and everything is right with the world. What could go wrong? As fate would have it, the worst thing happened.
Consumed by guilt, Jim blames himself for his brother’s death. To avoid reality, he retreats inside himself because he doesn’t know what to do until he stumbles over a root from the oldest largest tree he’s ever seen near Honeycutt Haven. It is here that the magic of the Bristlecone begins.

Bristlecone Magic is a YA Chriistian fantasy about love, community, friendship, yes, even tragedy. After all, life has its ups and downs even in Rouses Point, NY, a small out of the way community in Upstate New York. Jimmy and Johnny , twenty-year-old twins, decide to go for a short midnight ride, what could happen, right? Something happens and Jimmy is distraught. Only a few hours later Jim decides to go for a walk that turns into a run and an unusual discovery. News travels fast in the Point as the town rallies around Jim and his family. Bristlecone Magic is about the magic of a hello, a simple thank you but there is the other type of magic too. This is a fast-paced dialogue-driven novel that should be enjoyed and treasured by anyone from 12 to 109.

This is the first book I have read in eighteen months and it did not disappoint. Bristlecone Magic is a touching heart warming story that was a pleasure to read. The chapters are the perfect length for a bedtime read. (I have been wrestling with long chapters myself of late) The pacing was strong and there were several story lines that were all tied up in a satisfying way. I look forward to reading this author’s next work.

The Bristlecone Magic story is magical and real, tragic and triumphant. A story about coming full circle and the company that you meet. Most importantly, it is a tale about faith in the face of fate.
