Ocean activist, Trace Latimer has fought for over twenty-five years for the sea otters, penguins, and all sea life, but she’s exhausted and angry at the big shots who always win. But when a cold-hearted businessman orders the demolition of her childhood home, she has to face the biggest fight of her life.
After a bureaucratic nightmare overshadowed his most recent project, entrepreneur Dustin Hawk is fed up. He liquidates his Seattle demolition business and warms to his best friend’s sunny Florida hotel project. Despite his fear of the ocean, he finds himself swimming in shark-infested small-town politics and fears he might drown.
Trace and Dustin face off for a fight which they are both determined to win. But they find themselves in unexpected waters when they have to choose between their convictions or their hearts’ desires.

This is the perfect beach read! I loved the authentic characters, the realistic challenges and the dreamy antagonist. I was engaged and entertained. I wanted to grab my iced tea and head down to Friendship Beach to hang with my bookish friends.
This is book 2 of the Summer Island Book Club series, but it can stand alone.
This clean and sweet, contemporary romance is a great choice if you’re looking for a quick, easy beach read.
I was gifted this advance copy by Ciara Knight, Author Collective 20, and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
This is the second book in the Friendship Beach series, but could easily be a standalone read.
Trace has just moved home after 25 years of fighting corporations to stop polluting the ocean....only to find newcomer, Dustin, is set to demolish her childhood home to add on to his hotel. Now she has to fight him and the town to save it. Along the way, she is dealing with her father's death, her horrible neighbor Rhonda's antics and guilt she feels after a co-worker was killed on her last mission.
There is a lot going on in this story - but it flows smoothly and is an easy read. The characters are so much fun to get to know better, I enjoyed the first book as well.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.
Loved the next installment of this group of best friends from a small town. You don’t need to read the one before it to enjoy this one but it helps you understand some of the dynamics. This was a fast read and you are sucked in right from the beginning.
Trace is one very strong woman who is carrying a lot of guilt around in her head. She doesn’t feel that she can confide in anyone about her problem even though her best friends will support her and want to help. When she finds out that Dustin and Rhonda are behind her losing her father’s house, her world starts to crumble. That is when she starts to realize that she is not alone.
Dustin is one of those big city developers who has never before worked in a small town. The dynamics in a small town are so different, a lot depends on loyalty to those who have lived their entire lives in that town. What works in a city does not work here and he is totally out of his element since he has no clue how to navigate in those waters.
But Trace and Dustin are drawn to each other but they fight it because they are so different and are on opposite sides. The fight starts with Trace’s father’s house and Dustin’s hotel. No spoilers, but the ending will really make you wonder what can happen next in this small town.
Laughter, lost dream & a little bit of mystery. I truly enjoyed reading this story. Four life long friends, come together on Summer Island. Trace's friends can tell she is keeping something from them. And she is also having to fight for her father's home she inherited. But the girl's archenemy, who has always be jealous of their friendship, has caused a lot of problems for Trace, and involved Duncan in her schemes. Can Trace and Duncan, open their hearts to see what is right in front of them? A MUST READ!!
I was never able to get into this book. It felt like I was dropped in the middle of a story with too many missing pieces and I never felt connected to any of the characters. I read other reviews and it appears I'm the "odd man out" because everyone else seemed to love the book. It is listed as a stand alone read but maybe if I had read book one I would have connected to book two better. Read it and maybe you will love it like the other reviewers did. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
Even better than the first book, I couldn’t put it down. It is very well written and without giving away anything, I absolutely wanted to strangle Rhonda. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Going home is hard but when life happens you do what you have to do. Your friends stick by you. The characters will entertain you . a wonderful summer read
2.75 i mean i would recommend it’s just not what i expected and i didn’t feel a connection between the characters and it was in 3rd pov which i don’t like but yeah not my fav but a light summer read
The sequel to Summer Island Book Club and the second book in the Friendship Beach series, it was nice to re-visit these characters.
This time we follow Trace as she tackles the grief of losing her father, fighting a long time enemy to save her fathers house, find love and deal with the death of her young intern.
Trace is a wreck but with the Summer Island girls by her side, her support system is out of this world.
I said it in my review of the first book and I will say it again, I love that this series follows women in their 40s and 50s. Second chance romance and lifelong friendships...what more could a woman want?
Thank you to Author Collective 20 and NetGalley for my advanced E-Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
My review will be posted on my Instagram in the near future (@thesubstitutelibrarian)
Trace and Dustin met last year and the attraction was there, until Dustin made a deal with a mean neighbor and promised to tear down Trace's house. Trace has a much bigger secret that she can't revil to her sisters for many reasons but for some reason she decided to tell 1 person and what happens after that is explosive. This series is awesome to read
Grab your glass of raspberry Iced Tea, find a comfy chair and catch up with four friends who meet and help support their friend Trace as she battles land developers who are intent on demolishing her home. This was the perfect summer beach read, full of witty characters, an easy narrative that carried the plot, and a wonderful small beach town setting.
This is book two in A Friendship Beach series and it is Trace and Dustin's story. Trace is an ocean activist and she fights hard for all the sea life and even though the big shots always win she still carries on but when her childhood home has been put for demolition she is tired, angry but still determined to fight until the end to stop it from happen even if she has to go up against Dustin Hawk and let the best person win. I absolutely loved how all these friend's were there to help and support each other regardless of the situation and this story certainly pack's a punch and I couldn't put it down and had to keep turning the pages to see what would happen next and who would win in the end. This book was so well written and kept your attention throughout and I definitely recommend you read this book and series and you will not be disappointed.
Girlfriends who are as close, if not closer, to sisters? Trace, Jewel, Kat & Wind agree on that! Trace is back home to save her dad’s house & Dustin is in town to build a new hotel. Dustin has an order to demolish Trace’s home & Trace has a “Stop order” on the old hotel for historical purposes. Then there’s Rhonda who has had an ax to grind for 30+ years with Trace. Trace is an activist & was working on a project when her intern was killed. The court issued a gag order on her. The news media finds out what Trace can’t talk about; but no one knows who did talk!
This book is perfectly tailored for readers who crave the excitement of fast-paced romantic comedies, especially those featuring a captivating rivals-to-lovers dynamic. The narrative unfolds against the charming and often humorous backdrop of small-town life, where lighthearted conflicts and quirky characters add layers of entertainment to the central romance. Expect witty banter, escalating tension between the protagonists, and ultimately, a satisfying journey from spirited opposition to heartfelt connection within a delightful community setting.
Summer Island Sisters author: Ciara Knight Author Collective 20
I savored travelling back to Summer Island in this book, the second in the Friendship Beach Series. Summer Island Sisters can be enjoyed as a standalone. I'm glad, however, that I read Summer Island Book Club first to get acquainted with this group of four friends and fully follow their adventures in friendship, reading, romance, and mid- life predicaments. Lifelong friends, Trace, Jewels, Kat, and Wind come together in the small community of Summer Island. Here, everyone thinks they know everybody's business, via the Salty Island Gossip Line, and secrets and rivalry can get in the way of peaceful, coastal living. Each resident and guest has a story that connects them to the place. This book focuses on Trace, an ocean environmentalist, who returns to Summer Island to preserve her family home and historic charm of the Summer Island Hotel. She is battling serious, haunting issues of a past family relationship and a career related tragedy, both of which overwhelm her as she seeks to maintain her ancestral heritage. To further complicate matters, her current opposition, Dustin, is finding his way into her heart. Knight's story is compelling, with the loyalty of the friends, who feel like sisters, as a theme. Reader's will want a return visit to Friendship Beach and Summer Island for more romance, intrigue and excitement with Trace, Kat, Wind, and Jewels and the locals and visitors. Oh, and everyone will want to know which book these four friends read together next, as well. I have now read several books by this author in two different series, and I like the way she evokes a sense of place. This book and its series take place on Summer Island, and the author describes just enough (without going overboard) so you feel like you are there and can see the location as if looking through the characters’ eyes. I lived on the coast for some time, and what she describes is accurate to my memory of living by the sea. This book feels like half chick lit and half enemies-to-lovers romance--a great combo. I wasn't wild about Dustin at first, with his “I'm ever so important” big-city ways. I love, love, love that this romance involves middle-aged people. Romance novels usually focus on early (twentysomething) first loves, but I think middle-aged characters can make for a far richer story (in the hands of the right author) because they have, hopefully, lived complex and varied lives before the current romance… and have baggage that needs serious unpacking. Both the hero and heroine have regrets; both come to understand themselves (and each other )better and grow in the process. I always love that when it happens in a book. I also liked that the author was able to have some chapters end on mini cliffhangers; that certainly keeps you reading! I do have one quibble. Could somebody actually force the demolition of a property known to be owned by someone... someone who can easily be contacted? It doesn't seem like that should be able to happen. Anyway, I enjoyed this visit to Summer Island, and I look forward to the next one.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Summer Island Sisters (A Friendship Beach Novel Book 2) by Ciara Knight is a marvelous story of a chance of change and love in midlife. This is my favorite of the series so far. I can’t really explain why except it grabbed my attention and my heart from the beginning. Trace Latimer is somewhat a prickly personality. Her longtime friend Jewels (First book) is a much easier personality so it is not exactly Trace that makes it my favorite. There is a mystery concerning her recent past that unfolds as the story progresses. It is clear why she has such mistrust of Dustin Hawk but is it deserved?
The story flows so well I felt as if I was there in Summer Island. However, the first book also did this. Perhaps it is the growth of the characters Trace and Dustin that drew me in so much. Both have regrets, I can identify with that which anyone older could. However, they learn that it need not define them or their future. Of course, the longtime, strong, always supporting friends is an allurement to in this story. Such great friendship is something we could all envy a little.
It is not a heavy read but certainly not a silly one either. For me it was a positive reflection on doing what is right, living a life that you can not only love but also be proud of too. Just the kind of reaffirming read I needed but didn’t know it.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Summer Island is home to a group of life long high school friends, women who will move heaven and earth to protect those they love. They will always have each others back, no matter what. This is the journey of Trace and Dustin. Trace Latimer left Summer Island to live her dream of saving ocean life. That is until her father passes away. Her town is in need of saving now so she returns home to take care of everything. Dustin Hawk decides to leave his business in Seattle for a less hectic life in Summer Island. Afterall his buddy lives there and can't say enough great things about the little town. Together they plan to renovate the local hotel hoping to bring more business in. There is one thing though, seems there is a run down home that he plans to demolish. The problem is that the home in question belongs to Trace's father. Two stubborn people locking horns and butting heads. They need to work together to accomplish both of their tasks. Summer Island Sisters
This author never disappoints. All of her characters are fully developed realistic and fascinating. This series features four best friends, the ups and downs in friendships and life in a small town. This book tells Trace’s story. Trace has spent years fighting big corporations and trying to save marine life, now she has returned home only find she has a bigger, more personal fight on her hands. Determined, persistent, take no prisoners Trace pits herself against Dustin who is equally determined to demolish her family home and use the land for a hotel project. They face off against each other, but neither expects the attraction and emotions that build between them. Her friends are there to offer support her, but they are also aware that Trace is keeping secrets. Read this deftly written book to discover how Trace’s story develops. It is a very enjoyable read.

This is the second in a series of stories of childhood friends finding their way through life and back into the lives of each other. Trace and Dustin’s story goes from one of enemies, to losing their hearts to each other. I enjoyed the changes the main characters made as the story progressed. They first brought out the worst in each other, but as they grew in trust, (in themselves and in each other), and understanding, they grew into stronger, better people. The friends are there to love and protect their own. Each has talent and expertise that is valuable to the group as a whole, in the circle they consider their sisters. I love that these strong women of the world have a positive influence on their friends and community. I would definitely recommend this clean collection to my reader friends.

I’m loving this series about a group of older women that still have a lot of living left to do. Jewels, Trace, Wind, and Kat have been friends for decades. This story is centered around Trace and Dustin. How can two totally opposite people get their happily ever after? It’s not all smooth sailing, that’s for sure. Grab your copy and see what happens. I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Summer Island Sisters is a typical light, summer, no-brainer read. It is the story of a group of friends supposedly in their early 50s that behave like 20 year olds (totally annoyed me). Trace is the main character who encounters a bit of trouble while fighting for the ocean as an activist. The trouble follows her home to Summer Island where she comes to heal and reclaim her childhood home. However, there's more drama at home with a neighbor/high school rival trying to manipulate the town leaders into demolishing Trace's home due to disrepair. This story is full of drama, friendship, and standing up for yourself... with a bit of romance mixed in. I would not necessarily recommend this book, however, if you're looking for a quick book to pick up while on vacation or at the beach, this could fit the bill for you!
Thank you NetGalley, Ciara Knight and Author Collective 20 for the ARC of Summer Island Sisters. This is my personal review. Trace has moved home to live in the family home she has inherited but is shocked when she finds out is it set to be demolished! She has a fight of her life on her hands, but she has some amazing friends by her side. This book has everything a great beach read book needs- friends, romance, great setting, and a secret. Jewels, Trace, Wind and Kat feel like you have been friends with them all your life. This is the second book in the series Friendship Beach. I loved the first book in the series so much. I was thrilled to be back. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
