Seven years ago, Teddy Drucker disappeared. He changed his name, altered his appearance, and abandoned his corporate aspirations, fleeing for his life. What choice did he have? In over his head with the cops who’d accused him of murdering his girlfriend and the kind of guys who don’t think twice about cleaning up loose ends with a well-placed bullet.

Only forty-eight hours to save his girlfriend’s life, and Trevor is back on the run. With a go-bag and a stolen car and an unlikely ally who has her own demons. As the bodies pile up behind them, he’s betting it all on her. He’s hoping this girl is as lucky as she seems. Because this time the odds are stacked against them and the stakes are impossibly high. This time, he’s gambling with both their lives.
Forensic psychologist by day, novelist by night, Ellery Kane has been writing--professionally and creatively--for as long as she can remember. Just like many of her main characters, Ellery loves to ask why, which is the reason she became a psychologist in the first place. Real life really is stranger than fiction, and Ellery's writing is often inspired by her day job. Evaluating violent criminals and treating trauma victims, she has gained a unique perspective on the past and its indelible influence on the individual. And she's heard her fair share of real life thrillers.
Ellery lives in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, a picturesque setting that provides the backdrop for many of her novels. If you don't find Ellery interviewing murderers behind prison walls or pecking away at her latest novel, she is probably at the gym landing a solid jab-cross to a punching bag; riding bicycles with her special someone; or enjoying a movie the old-fashioned way--at the theater with popcorn and Milk Duds.
Ellery was previously selected as one of ten semifinalists in the MasterClass James Patterson Co-Author Competition and is the author of the Doctors of Darkness, Rockwell and Decker, and Legacy Series, with two standalone thrillers from Bookouture coming in 2022.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
By now, I’m sure it’s pretty clear I love just about anything this author puts out and this one was no exception! The story is excellent! Very tense and dark. The vibe of this book sells it to me. It’s freaking perfect for an autumn tbr. Even better for spooky tbr.
My only complaint was I wanted more. After reading this author for so long, I can say that while this novella is great, she really shines with her full-length novels. So if you read this and like it, I can personally guarantee you’ll love her other works even more.
A man with a past he is trying to outrun and a girl who wants revenge. Trevor is a man with a go bag and feet that will not rest in one place. He is running from his past and he as at a crossroads when his past finally catches up to him. Lina is a girl on a mission with one goal in mind. What that goal is will have you turning pages faster and faster.
Lucky Girl was good from the first page and kept me engrossed until the very end. Ellery Kane is such a gifted psychological writer. She can take what seems to be such a simple plot and make it complex with many twists and turns. Her books are never the same story you’ve read before and her ability to capture your attention and keep you hooked is the true mark of a great writer.
I truly hope this series continues as it is one of my favorites!
Wow. What a read. On the run, trying to hide. A murder Teddy didn’t do, definitely dangerous out there. Intriguing, suspense and everything you want in a mystery. Couldn’t put it down and wanting more.
I absolutely loved the characters in this book! The pacing kept me at the edge of my seat and flipping pages late into the night. Another well done storyline by a great author!
*I received an advanced copy for my honest opinion.
I started reading this book when I went to bed, before I knew it, I was 32% thru the book. I wanted to keep reading but I had to get up early in the morning. This book is full of excitement, danger and intrigue. No one is who they seem to be and strange twists keep occurring. I saw similarities to the tales of Jeffrey Epstein. 2 stories are entwined, one from 7 years prior and the one from the current year. Trevor is pulled back into what he tried to escape from. Great characters and action scenes. I received an advance reader copy and this is my honest review.
This is a tense well written thriller, a story of who is lucky and a story of redemption. Part of me wanted to read it quickly to find out what would happen and part of me wanted to read it slowly, to savor every unique and original descriptive phrase, some of which are still lingering inside of me after the initial gasp of breath
Lucky Girl by Ellery Kane Another great read from The Doctors of Darkness series, Ellery Kane does not disappoint with this novella. Interesting, unputdownable and just enough to keep you turning the pages as fast as your eyes can devour the words! Thank you Netgalley and the author for another wonderful book and letting me leave my honest opinion.
This Novella came as a most pleasant surprise! The author, Ellery Kane, previously created a series of thrillers with the main characters having backgrounds in psychology. That theme alone ties the books together, as each novel has new characters and a standalone style plot. I read and truly loved all 4 in this series, especially Shadows Among Us.
After creating this series, the author signed a book deal for her Rockwell and Decker series (that I also read and reviewed) which I thought meant the end of the Doctors of Darkness series. So when I received a link for an ARC of this latest installment I was tell-my-family level excited!
The author's background as a forensic psychologist gives her the insight to create realistic characters and devious twists. This book was an action packed page turner that kept me entertained throughout.
Coming in at 212 pages, it counts as a full book to me! If you're considering a new read, this has an amazing pre-order price of .99 and a short wait for publication on September 14, 2021!
A man trying to forget his past and a woman seeking revenge. What do these two individuals have in common? They are seeking the downfall of a powerful few that are involved in using underage girls and blackmail. 'Lucky Girl' by Ellery Kane takes us on a tense ride fraught with danger and reminiscent of today's headlines. I received an advanced copy from the Author. The review and comments are my honest opinion.
This novella is definitely on the darker side of Ellery Kane's writing as compared to the Rockwell and Decker series. While I do generally enjoy her works, I couldn't finish this one as I felt not as connected to the characters. However, her explanation of their psyche and suspense was well done, so I would recommend this to those who enjoy darker, suspense novels.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fab thriller filled with mystery and suspense that will keep you guessing. A dark read that’s dropping bodies like flies and is full of betrayal, lust and revenge. A man with a past he’s trying to out run and a girl out for revenge what could possibly go wrong?? Beware once you pick this up you will find yourself lost in its web and unable to get out it’s that good!
In some ways this is one of the darker of the series. While I didn't like any of the characters I found them compelling. It's fast paced with plenty of action and tension. The conclusion was so satisfying. It's one that will stick with you.
Teddy drucker just can't escape his past it comes back to haunt him when he gets note left by a patient of his to meet soon finds himself on the run and looking for answers enjoyed this read and entire series of these doctors of darkness

REVIEW I have enjoyed any book by this author. She always gives a great thriller story and this one is exactly that. This is a who is who and what in the world kind of story. Nothing and no one is what they seem to be. The suspense just builds until finally... finally... boom! Spooky, twisted, dark, and I wanted so much more! I love these Doctors of Darkness books.
