Brooklyn Morrison is the most fascinating woman I’ve ever met – and she’s my new boss.
The first day of my training fellowship offers more than I expected. Brooke isn’t just my boss – she’s also the woman I spent one hot and sexy night with two weeks ago. She’s insistent that our random night together was a one-time only event. But I know it’s only a matter of time before we have a repeat performance.
I’m not one to back away from a challenge – especially one with a sharp tongue, brilliant mind, and a killer body.
Lucas Brennan is the sexiest man I’ve ever met – and he’s my new trainee.
Our steamy night together is burned into my brain. Permanently. But I refuse to be tempted into another night with my new trainee. We’re professionals and my job is to teach him, not picture him naked.
I will resist his charms, his Hollywood smile, and those killer dimples. At least, that’s what I tell myself.
Until the temptation becomes a flame I can’t resist. I only hope I don’t get burned.
Aubrey Bondurant is a romance author who believes life is better with humor, heat, and a happily-ever-after. She writes the kind of stories she loves to read—smart, flirty, and spicy enough to make you blush in public.
When she’s not writing, Aubrey is usually spending time with her family. She can be tempted by anything caffeinated, great cocktails, and any dog big enough to knock her over with enthusiasm. She’s convinced the world needs more kindness, more laughter, and way more swoony book boyfriends.
Ms. Bondurant has done it again. She made me fall in love with another one of her heroes, made me wish he was real, and had me swooning and smiling and giddy with happiness so many times.
Not only did I love Lucas, but Brooke was equally amazing.
A swoony hero with a heart of gold…check. A confident, lovable, badass heroine who is done taking shit…check. A story that has humor, steam, tons of heart, and plenty of feels…check, check, check, and check.
From the time Brooke & Lucas met (which was very entertaining…and then HOT) until the very last page, I thoroughly enjoyed these characters, their journey, and all the goodness, passion, and deliciousness in between.
Both Brooke & Lucas knew what they wanted, knew what they were getting into, and they were perfectly fine with that. Until those pesky feelings started getting in the way. Watching them try to convince themselves they didn’t want more, didn’t feel more than they did, couldn’t BE more, was funny. Not funny ha-ha, but funny ridiculous. Because their chemistry was through the roof! They couldn’t stay away from each other if they tried. Their relationship was so sweet and sexy and sometimes amusing and fun. And even pulled my heartstrings a few times. I loved these two.
Just like with the previous books, I was immediately pulled in and didn’t want to stop reading. It comes as no surprise this was another great story in this amazing series!
Brooke has a one night stand after walking out on her domineering family and the wedding from hell. Lucas is adamant about two things, not having relationships and building his home health care business. When Brooke comes to fill in for an obstetrician who is out on maternity leave, she and Lucas must navigate professionalism as well as figure out how to be friends. But both their pasts and work keep pushing them apart. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to everyone. The whole series is great, and can’t wait for more.
Dr. Brooklyn Morrison is finally living her life like she wants it, and a relationship isn't in the plans for her at this time because she's been burned before. Dr. Lucas Brennan is a man scarred from his last relationship, and he won't even open his mind up to anything other than one night with women. Before these two started working together, they hooked up, and it was HOT, so you already know their new work situation will get complicated. See, while Lucas makes many mistakes when it comes to Brooklyn, he's still so drawn to her, and those sparks won't be denied for very long. I LOVED this story so much as Aubrey Bondurant has an addictive writing style with characters that are easy to fall in love with, and at this point, I know that I could never start one of her books before bed because I won't be able to fall asleep until every last page is devoured. Miss Chief is one hell of a story that everyone needs in their lives no matter what genre you prefer so don't drag your feet, just hit those one click buttons to be swept away with Lucas & Brooklyn's fantastic story! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
5 star Review Miss Chief (Miss Series #7) by Aubrey Bondurant
Having read the previous books in this series I was looking forward to reading Miss Chief. This was an entertaining read that ticked all the boxes for me. From the first chapter to the last I was drawn into her story about Dr. Brooklyn Morrison and Dr. Lucas Brennan.
I really enjoy Aubrey Bondurant’s style of writing, her characters are engaging and you cannot help but become invested in her stories. From the moment they met, the sparks flew however now they are co workers so things are about to get complicated.
When lines are crossed, the passion ignites and it was steamy. I really liked both these characters, particularly Brooke who is sassy and feisty and a woman I could easily see as a friend. The push and pull of their relationship as walls crumbled made for an enjoyable read.
I loved everything about Miss Chief and this may well be my favourite of the series.
I'm torn between 3.5/4 Stars with this one, but I'll have to go with 3.5.
The beginning was rough for me. The "meet" ends up being a one night stand after Brooke's sister's wedding (who happens to be marrying her ex-fiance). I didn't love the beginning because I truly like a slow burn, and that felt like jumping ahead and then we took a step back. Idk, obviously it's a matter of opinion, but it set a weird tone for me.
The things I did like: I really adored the side characters, that Brooke and Lucas are both doctors, and a look into the home patient practice they are both working at. It was really interesting and sweet, and overall I did enjoy the story. Brooke was a really likable character, and I loved how she stood up for herself to her (absolutely awful) family (excluding Caleb, her brother, of course).
I really enjoy this series, and how we get to see how all these characters are connected. It's fun seeing old faces pop up!
My biggest problem here though was actually Lucas, and kind of how the romance developed. To be honest, I feel like Lucas treated Brooke terribly, and I wanted so much better for her. He was constantly gaslighting her, reminding her that he would never be in a real relationship with her (even though she wasn't asking, and they were clearly on the same page in terms of expectations), and lashing out at her when they weren't able to fight their attraction to one another. Look, I get that we need some tension/angst/drama in the story, but we don't need the MC to act like a complete idiot for 80% of the book. I actually started to feel really bad for Brooke, and wanted her to find someone else! We get it, Lucas has massive commitment issues, but he doesn't need to constantly lash out at Brooke because of it. Ugh.
Then, I never felt like he truly made up for how he treated Brooke. He has a grand gesture at the end, finally deciding he wants to be with her, but it felt like it came out of no where. Lucas randomly decides "Oh wait, I actually do love her and am no longer afraid of commitment, at all"... It feels a little unbelievable.
Anyways, I still highly recommend this series, and this addition, but I had much higher hopes for Lucas.
I thought Lucas and Brooklyn's romance was amazing. I loved the intense emotions, deep feels, thick tension, steamy heat and raw heart that smoothly flowed through and fueled this engaging read. The pull between what these two felt they wanted mentally and what their hearts and bodies demanded made for a very entertaining battle that delivered lots of feels and swoon. This is my unbiased and unsolicited review.
As with all the books in this series. Amazing. I have loved all the stories. With strong women who know their worth. They find the man inside. Narration was awesome.
Hero was pretty awful with his push/pull and it felt manipulative. Heroine just seemed to shrug it off, and while she did point out some hard truths to him, he overcame his abandonment issues very fast. She certainly didn't make him work for it, not sure if I would trust him not to run... but then she didn't seem too invested herself.
2.5 but have to round up cause the whole series before this was great. This author writes some pretty awful relatives, and the h's mother was deliciously horrible. Would have loved an epilogue with mom all old and miserable and lonely, raising her dysfunctional abandoned "real" grandchild... Lol
One of my favourite series and this latest story definitely didn't disappoint, although I wasn't expecting it to! I absolutely adored Lucas and Brooke and it was fun catching up with previous couples from earlier books.
Love Brooke & Lucas! Holy cripes! Brooke had me from the very beginning! Like I knew she would be perfect for Lucas. I love that Brooke is trying to hard to take control of her own life and not let her mother dictate things anymore. Lucas is just so wishy washy that I wanted to smack him a time or 4... Every time something would happen between them he would go into freak out mode. There was this really touching moment that had me putting my hand to my heart. It was very moving. Brooke's need for independence is probably what I loved most about her. She has finally figured out what she wants and is ready to make it happen. And I am not going to lie..... Lucas had some VERY romantic grand gestures for someone who was terrified of commitment! So freaking swoony!! This has got to be one of my favorite series and I am so freaking ecstatic that it just keeps going... there is always some side character brought in that I need to see them get their HEA. The Miss Series is fan-freaking-tastic and is NOT one to be missed!!
So glad, Lucas got his book, however, the sexy doctor. The man who seems to be so romantic, and, even magical the night he meets, Brooke. He ends up, being a selfish lover, for most of the book. In fact, when you think about it, it's scandalous, that he knows who her brother, Caleb. He is even friends with him, and his girlfriend, Daisy, but doesn't say anything to, Brooke about it.
What's funny is when she skips out on him, the next morning after, their one-off. The feeling of being left, is not as fun, as being the one, leaving. Brooke had it rough the day before, and quite frankly the one-off works well, for her. Although, she is ruined for all the other men, in the bedroom. Not to mention, Lucas is a movie star, hot.
Even he, however, could not take her mind off, the fact that she had quit, her job with a sixty-day, notice. All because of her mother, the controlling beach she is. Blackmailing her into attending, the wedding of her younger sister’s, wedding to her ex-fiance, of only three, months ago. So, when she is twenty minutes away from her jailbreak her mom starts harping, her that she needs to leave the bar area to take family pics.
That is Brooke’s line in the sand. Not happening. She will not take a pic with the two backstabbers, hard no on that one. Her mom for whom Brooke works threaten her job. Saying if she doesn't do it she will fire her. Brooke says don’t bother, I am giving sixty days' notice, I quit. On this night, Lucas does find out that she is an obstetrician. So, when they need one at his practice stat, he has his boss, get her.
Okay, let's just say, Brooke’s mom has it way over, the wicked witch, of Oz. Holy cow she, is icy. I have to say, Lucas can sure give you whiplash that is for sure over this whole relationship issue. I love, Brooke. She is all woman and doesn't worry about what she eats. She is a true foodie who loves it all. But, comfort food works best.
This story is about Caleb's sister, Brooke and she is matched with Caleb's divorce client, Lucas. Both are doctors and they meet by chance and don't realize their connection to Caleb and Daisy. They also are both doctors and I love doctor romances so I could not wait to read this story. This is a standalone story in the series but if you want a little history on them, you can read Miss Fortune before you read this story. The two meet and have a one-night stand and have no plans to meet up again until they end up as coworkers and Lucas is the one to train her and show her around.
I love how strong and independent Brooke is. She has a terrible past and her family is beyond a train wreck, but she is strong, smart and knows she deserves better than her past. Lucas unfortunately is not as awesome as Brooke and his divorce really damaged him so much that he has rules and only does one nighters. Brooke is a real challenge for him because he has all these rules, but he wants to fight his own rules because he also sees how awesome Brooke is.
This was a hot, romantic story about one night that changes everything for these two. Can you have a one-night stand and then become work friends and co-workers without it getting in the way?
I really loved the story. I felt bad for poor Lucas, but I cheered Brooke on as she becomes this awesome doctor who makes Lucas work for her heart.
I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Meh. I loved this premise, and the beginning was so promising. I hated the MMC though, and he never truly made up for how horribly he treated the FMC throughout the entire story. From day one of her working at his job, he attacked her personal life, when they had previously been getting along just fine. This continued, only he would also lash out at her for his own inability to control his desire. It was somehow always her fault, and he had to back it up every time he felt something for her with a reminder to her that she wouldn't ever mean more to him, or that they could never be more. It got old so fast. And then in one moment, his insecurities and childhood trauma is healed and he suddenly wants everything he pushed away, with hardly any internal thoughts on how he arrived at that conclusion, just that he was lonely for a moment without her? Yeah okay. I really see this relationship lasting (/sarcasm).
The grovel after that sucked. It was non-existent. Their little hotel bar thing was cute, but the MMC did absolutely nothing to show her that things would be different before she decided they needed to head up to the room.
And we got a couple quick spicy scenes, then the rest were all fade to black, and mentioned often (because their entire relationship is based on sex), so the book doesn't even have that going for it.
Sometimes when you pick up a book and the first two pages you know you are are going to love it??? Well this book was that for me. Nothing like overbearing family meets a girl that has had too much of that family! Brooke in this book was to relatable for me. You know when you reach you breaking point and then fight back when others around you act the victim? Well I loved how strong Brooke was and found her inner voice to tell others to take a flying leap. She had a personality that drew Lucas in and lord knows he needed. Lucas cares about others around him but never took the time to care about himself. He needed Brooke to come into his life and work as a team to get thru both of their issues. They have amazing chemistry and just great banter. Sometimes in life you don't know what you need till it is standing right in front of you. I love how Aubrey brings other characters from other books into her new ones. I have read every book of hers. She gives us a glimpse into the other characters lives which as an avid reader I appreciate. Way to go Aubrey you made it so my trip back from Colorado (8 hrs) flew by and I didn't even pay attention that my husband was driving like a NASCAR driver!
I do not know who wrote this book description but whoever did should be fired immediately. The book was completely different! The only common point was that they were both doctors who had an ONS and then ended up working at the same practice. Brooke was not his boss. Lucas was the one hell-bent about not being in a relationship. AND I preferred the way it was written here! Even though I have liked, I also thought it was quite obvious how its story was going to play out for the get-go. Furthermore, I found it a little shallow the bits that were supposed to be more intense. I am sure Miss Chief is going to be a blast for those who love a quick and slightly light romance with a HEA and lots of steamy hot sex.
P.S. Despite being part of a long series—which I had not read—, I did not find the other couple(s) storie(s) heavy or important on the development or comprehension of this one's.
This is the 7th book in this amazon series, and this is Brooke and Lucas’s story. Brooke is a doctor who is sassy and feisty, and craving independence from her overbearing family, and when her new trainee arrives, it is Lucas, the man she spent a spicy night with 3-weeks previously. Lucas is charming and has a killer smile, and he is also a doctor who is training for his fellowship. Can these two resist the attraction between them? This is a well written story with undeniable chemistry, family, humor, witty banter, passion, drama, romance, emotions, and love, which leads to a steamy and entertaining page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend. I received a free copy of this book via Give Me Books and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow, this series keeps getting better and better. I absolutely loved Brooke and Lucas's story. It was such an addictive story, I love seeing the cameo appearances from previous characters and their role in the story.
Brooke is a fiery woman, 'crazy girl', after deciding enough is enough from her mother. She has a passion for her field, being a obstetrician, she cares about her patients. I won't give too much away but I wanted to slap some people but it also had me laughing with the banter.
Lucas is a compassionate doctor, just closed off to relationships, sticking with one night stands. Will he change?
I loved the realness of the characters, all of aubrey's characters are realistic and relatable. The heat in the story is so real it's like your watching a TV show. I can't recommend this series enough and the amazing author, I honestly can't wait to see who's story is next
Aubrey Bondurant knows how to make a reader crave more.
This entire series has been that way from page one to page last. She makes these characters you wanna love, hate, hug, fall for, and be in your life. No exception with Lucas and Brooke. These two are coming out of bad relationships that left sour tastes in their mouths, and the more you read about them, you see so many layers of their lives.
I loved how this book flowed from Daisy & Caleb's book and how they both were intertwined in different ways with those characters. And adding Tory in the mix was pure perfection. If you need a book that will give you good emotions, you need this book. Honestly, start with book 1 of this series and go from there. Each book is addicting in its own way and you just want to see what's next with each person and how their lives progress. Can't wait for more from this amazing author.
This was exactly what I needed right now. After a couple of heavy books this was light enough that I wanted to devour it. Brooke was gorgeous and brilliant. While she has an inner strength that she’s just found, she’s incredibly kind and a gentle spirit. She’s over her narcissistic Mum and ex and is looking for some fun. Lucas is only looking for fun. This sweetheart has so many abandonment issues that he pushes away everyone before they can hurt him. But Brooke keeps calling him on it. Which forces him to realise what he is doing and why he’s doing it. I really enjoyed the dynamic between these two. I loved the brother/sister bond that she shared with Caleb and how they supported each other. And the little old lady- Myrna, they always have pretty good advice and something to ponder.
Miss Chief is a great story, and I thought the chemistry between Lucas and Brooklyn was off the charts. The passion was there and felt from the very beginning. The chemistry was off the charts, and everything flowed nicely!
I really liked Brooke’s character. I thought she was the perfect mix of sassy and feisty. I also really liked Lucas’ character too, but sometimes I wanted to throw my kindle because of how he would go into freak-out mode a lot. Eventually, though, he redeemed himself.
Overall, this book was great! Lucas, with the romantic gestures, made me believe in love; Brooke finding her ultimate independence, the secrets, the angst, the romance, and the steam – just simply amazing! If office romance books are your thing, or you are just a fan of contemporary romance, read this!

The house call making Dr Lucas and the sister Dr Brooke (sister to Caleb) meet at the bar following her walking out on her sister's wedding to Brooke's cheating ex-fiance. When Brooke's mom threatened her job, she quit. Now she is filling in for 6 weeks where Lucas works. Things get complicated and then she walks out as he is getting ready to ask for forever. He needs to track her down and convince her that he really does believe in forever.
I've enjoyed each book in this series. All of them should be read by only those over 18. They can be standalone, by I would recommend reading in order.
Aubrey Bondurant truly gets better and better with every single book she writes. We previously "met" Brooke in several other stories, mainly Miss Fortune where we get a peek into her story. That is also where we "met" Lucas although never did the two meet...until now. This story delves way more into Brooke's back story. She is a completely successful doctor who has been "tied" down by her family in several different ways. When she meets Lucas, it is just a way to blow off some serious steam and get away from the drama that is her life-act out, be crazy. Little did she know that this would be the beginning...of the beginning ... of her taking back her life, of being true to herself. Lucas also needs to figure it all out and find emotional stability. The chemistry between these two is amazingly off the charts. I laughed, I cried, I swooned.
Brooke has been her family's doormat one to many times and that leads her to meeting Lucas. A steamy one night stand gives her the confidence to take back control of her life. Imagine her surprise when he is her new coworker. Can they keep it professional or will the sparks fly?
I love this series! It is so fun to spend time with Brooke and Lucas as well as couples from the previous books. There is plenty of witty banter and laughs but it is also so sweet. Lucas is such a caring doctor and cares for his patients in such a personal way. Miss Chief was the perfect way to fall for my next book boyfriend. Can't wait for whatever Aubrey thinks of next.
The summary provided by the author is not what this is about.
Brooke has a one night stand with a sexy doctor (she's one too, but doesn't tell him), at her sister's wedding to Brooke's former boyfriend with whom she caught her sister. It's trashy and the mother (also a dr) doesn't help matters. When Brooke refuses to go back to the wedding, her mother throws a fit and Brooke quits the practice where she works with Mom.
In searching for a job, Lucas actually recommends her since he knows what's up with that awful family. At no time does she become Lucas' boss, so she's not chief of anything.
Miss Chief is a great addition to the Miss series! It's a one night stand meets kind of office romance. I absolutely loved Brooke. I loved her sassy attitude and how she stood up for herself and started putting herself first in all aspects of her life. I also loved Lucas but I wanted to knock him out sometimes. I felt he went in constant circles with Brooke always reminding her (and himself) what was and was not happening between them. Eventually he figured things out and I loved the ending! You don't have to read the other Miss books to read this one, but there is character overlap.
Absolutely outstanding, Aubrey Bondurant has done it again . She 100% nailed the characters of Lucas & Brooke.
Lucas brought all of the vulnerability, & relationship negativity…. Plus great sex, & Brooke brought all the sass …. Plus great sex .
One night stand , to colleagues, to friends with sex off the table , to friends with sex on the table , literally, to………. Forever….. with balls off the table ….. but only in the car .
Miss Chief by Aubrey Bondurant is the seventh book in the Miss series and it was soooo good! It was my absolute favorite in the series so far. Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop-it was that addicting. The writing was incredible as usual and the characters were unforgettable.
Luke and Brooke were two amazing characters. Their chemistry was off the charts hot and the connection between the two was instantaneous. I loved watching them fall and their journey to a HEA.
Overall, Miss Chief was a phenomenal story. I highly recommend reading it!
