After exiting the Trials, Dabu and Uhane set off in pursuit of Phoenix. However, after encountering a magically charged sandstorm, the pair find themselves far from their intended course. Running short on food and water, they have no choice but to try and find civilization.
Instead, they find deserted villages, rumors of a terrifying beast that stalks the night, and no way to turn back. All they can do is forge on, both to find supplies and to discover what sort of creature can send entire villages fleeing for their lives.

This is a hard book to write a review for. It was those cases where I am love in the story I like the characters but I’m struggling with the overwhelming odds the face. Not a real spoiler but right at the start the face or at least we are introduced to a new enemy big scary powerful enemy. I can’t wait for the end of the story sad to see book today is the finale but then it makes me wonder even more how are they going to survive how do they come out on top. I really do think there’s something hidden in what the author has written that I’ve overlooked that will change things up fundamentally I have an idea what it might be but I don’t wanna gues.
Anyway good book 2 characters advance even further we get to see more of the world more enemies they even make a few friends. We do see just how messed up things are though. I think that is what strikes me the most here things are just messed up. I find it somewhat refreshing that an author is willing to write a story going down this path where things are not all roses and sunshine and learning something new it’s just bleak dreary and ugly perhaps it will get better perhaps it won’t we don’t know we just know one thing it’s ugly and entertaining. Five stars can’t wait for the next book in the series. Definitely interested in how do you wrap all this up.
Really good second book in trilogy, kept the story going. I like the plots going, and can see some cool things coming in future. Dabu is definitely going to be a badass as soon as he gets some more levels.
To be honest I dropped this for about 3 days and came back to just skim the last half I couldn’t read. Our MC just doesn’t vibe well with me, I can’t really explain it well but I just don’t enjoy reading about him.
Also, the progression just kind of stops here. We are getting introduced to these incredibly powerful antagonists and our MC is barely able to fight his own weight class.
