Marco knew Kai was his true mate, but to keep him alive, he had no choice but to let him go.
On the run from his panther clan and family, Marco had tried to bury his shifter side and settled into a near-human existence, working as a medic for the ranger service. All that had gone to hell when he met Kai and fell instantly for the gorgeous omega, putting them both at risk from the torture and death he had escaped from.
Nobody had ever wanted Kai—not his family, not the alphas he’d been sold to, and now not even his true mate. Rejected and humiliated, Kai runs right into the exact trouble Marco had tried to save him from.
Finally, just as Marco gets him back, a betrayal he never saw coming hits them both harder than either of them were ready for. Marco won’t just need to battle to save Kai and their unborn child—he’s going to have to start a war that’s never been fought.
Victoria writes about guys loving other guys in between dodging bullets, kidnappers, and serial killers. She enjoys putting them through hell to get their happy ever after—it’s a character flaw she embraces.
She also believes that family is who you choose, that dogs are often much wiser than human beings, and that we’re steadily destroying the world we live in.
And if people read more books, they'd be much happier.
Baby and the Panther by Victoria Sue Shifter Rescue #2. Paranormal shifter M-M mpreg romance. Best read as part of the series in order. Marco worked as a medic for the rangers service when he met his soul mate Kai. Fearing pack threats, Marco let Kai leave him. It wasn’t fair to keep the gorgeous omega for himself when he couldn’t protect him. Kai is once again hurt that’s he’s not wanted and runs away. Unfortunately the pack he’s temporarily with is undergoing leadership changes and all the omegas as no more than collateral to be bartered. When Marco hears that news, he and his crew go on a rescue mission.
I read the first book in the series a year or more ago, so had to look at a few reviews before getting too far into this one. It helped but for anyone that does not care too much about background will still be fine to start here. Kai is so emotionally wounded and I felt sad for him as I listened to his background. I was then gratified when Marco stepped up to plan a rescue and then their tentative relationship grew in bits and pieces. There are a lot of pack dynamics here and threats from outside that add twists and turns to the storyline. There is a series hook in the epilogue. It will make you immediately reach for the next book so don’t read it if you have plans to read something different next. 🤣 I will definitely be continuing this series.
I really enjoy how Victoria does her mpreg books. It was a mix of sweet, spicy and exciting. I hope baby and the billionaire comes soon, because the suspense will kill me until then. Oh, it's hard to write reviews for a series without spoilers! But fear not, Kai and Marco have a wonderful romance and cute babies.
After reading Baby and the Wolf, I was eager to read Kai and Marco's story. Kai was a pregnant omega who'd been taken in by Shifter Rescue after one horrific event after another in his life. He was finally safe. Marco is the medic of the pack. Everybody knows they love each other but their 'trying to do the right thing' keeps them apart, especially when Kai makes the boneheaded decision to leave Marco and the pack and start over again somewhere else with his unborn baby.
Something bad happens a few weeks later and Kai and his baby (Maddox) need to be rescued. Ryker and his rescuers jump into action, sending Marco in to do the rescuing. He, a panther shifter, is the only one who can pass as human.
All that was perfect. Marco, finally having Kai back, was never going to let him go. He loved him and Maddox and they could all live happily-ever-after.
Well, not quite.
And this is where I had issues, and why the rating is rounded down, not up (I really wish Goodreads had half-stars)...
Kai.
He absolutely drove me crazy with his wishy-washy back and forth when it came to Marco. Marco was literally willing to die for Kai and Maddox (who isn't his biologically), yet Kai would pull him in and then push him away again. This happened so much in the book that I was secretly wishing Marco would say, "Enough is enough, I'm gone."
Aside from Kai and Marco, there's constant drama in the pack. It takes awhile to figure it all out. I'm still loving Ryker and I'm looking forward to Zeke's story.

Edited on 2/3/22 to add my comments on the audiobook: Audiobook Review: Overall – 5 Performance – 5 Story – 5
Wonderful story, wonderful audio performance.
I loved Baby and the Panther when I read it with my eyes and now I’ve loved it even more listening to John Solo’s excellent audiobook performance. This is a series that you really need to read in order to understand what is going on.
Original review below: Another great book in this series.
I loved Baby and the Panther but you really should read the other books in this series to understand what is going on. They are great books and the prequel, Baby and the Bear, is free for signing up for the author’s newsletter. (Go to https://victoriasue.com/books/ and click on the book’s cover.)
We met Kai and Marco in the first book, Baby and the Wolf, and we knew they had a connection but then things happened and I knew I’d have to wait to get their story and now it’s here. Kai goes through some pretty awful things and that makes him distrustful of everyone, including Marco.
Victoria Sue is so good about leading her readers in one direction only to twist things up and this story is no exception. I’m afraid if I say too much it will be too spoiler-y. Take a look at the blurb on Amazon (it’s missing on Goodreads as of when I wrote this) and you will learn more about the story.
I should warn that this book does end with a cliffhanger but the next book is coming in January 2022 and I know it will be worth the wait.
I did a beta read of this book for the author and borrowed a copy from KU.
There was a lot of back and forth here between Kai and Marco, mostly due to misunderstandings and lack of communication. The thing I loved was the presence of children and how cute the interactions with them were. Plot-wise it was it was interesting, as we finally learn more about the mystery behind Marco's family. I can't wait to read Charles' story, I hope it'll be out soon.
The pain these Omegas are going through just breaks my heart. This series is extremely emotional and the characters are put through the ringer. Kai, who is the main character for this book has really had a tough life. I REALLY needed him to get a HEA. I enjoyed reading this book in particular because of the justice that was served at the end.
I just absolutely love this addition to this series. I am so happy for Marco and Kai's story! This is such an amazing emotional story that I just love. Victoria Sue just doesn't disappoint me. I just can't explain how much I love this story. I love how Marco is so willing to protect Kai and Maddox even with his life. Such an amazing story and I can't wait for next one.
Another great book in the series. I absolutely love Kai and was so heartbroken for him when all that terrible stuff happens. I also like Marco but I was a little annoyed that he still thought a certain way even after all Kai has been through. However I was freakin happy when the finally got their HEA. Then there is Charles that just broke my heart even more then Kai. I do so very much hope that he gets his own book, I want to see him happy SO much. This was great but I did enjoy book one a little more therefor the lower rating.
I didn't quite get what was holding Marco back from claiming Kai in the first place. And in the end all that had kept him from doing it was resolved too quickly and without all that much fuss. Also, Marc knows how dangerous it is out there for omega born men and he deemed letting Kai go to a pack quite far away, one none of them had intimate knowledge of a smaller risk than keeping him at his side in a pack that looks out for their omegas? And I also don't quite get what he actually does. It is being said that he is a medic, but does he do? He is not a doctor, he doesn't do blood work, doesn't perform surgery or some such. So his job is taking temperature and blood pressure? So far he hasn't even been at many of the births. It would have been nice to "see" him in action, maybe helping Kai out or even needing Kai's assistance.
The forgiveness was given too quickly and hardly talked through. Both of them felt rejected at one point or another but instead of sitting down and talking about expectations etc. they just glossed over it all and debated in their own heads. I was sometimes a bit perplexed how they came to the conclusion they did, like when Marco had a tantrum, ran off and when he came back Kai moved his things into a joint room and everything was peachy. How, what, why, who??? Maybe I'll have to read it again for me to make sense, maybe I overlooked a chapter or sentence or something.
But again, all in all a good continuation of the series and the characters are lovable just as they were in book 1 making you want to read on and see them all find their HEA.
Victoria is the Queen of angst and this installment to the series did not disappoint. Marco and Kai's relationship once all their misunderstanding was sorted out was beautiful. This book also reiterates why communication is important and assumptions are the enemy. In addition we got more clan and pack drama. More Omega rescue, some action and a lot more of that found family dynamics this series is famous for. I absolutely loved this epic adventure with all the cute babies and I can't wait to read the next one. This series is best read in order for full enjoyment and I highly recommend it, especially if you're looking for a sweet, sexy, and angsty read. I was given an ARC of this book by the Author in exchange for an honest review.
I read for enjoyment but this story was just so frustrating. I have little patience for assumptions and lack of communication. The main character, Kai was just stuck on stupid. How many times are you going to get kidnapped (more like put yourself in harms way by thinking you can help) in one book? The sexual abuse got to be a little to heavy. The first book in this series was great and yes, sexual abuse was a small topic but in this book the sexual abuse topic more prevalent. I usually don’t write negative reviews but I was so frustrated with the main character that I couldn’t help but to share my disappointment.
Really odd thing with this series: in the first book, the author goes into way too much detail about how MPREG works in this series; how male omegas have both a "female" and "male" sex organs. But then in this book (and the prequel), it turns out that they can't produce milk of their own, and have to rely on formula! How likely is it that evolution would have let that stand? Also, they refer to what would have to be formula as 'milk,' as if babies can live off of cow's milk.
3.5 Stars ~ I liked Kai and Marco’s story. Again, I think the author is shooting herself in the foot because a lot of the world building is presented in a somewhat convoluted manner and there is NO way these books can be read as stand-alones. There’s still Zeke and Darriel, not to mention Fox and Charles, plus the whole Marcos’s evil mom issue, etc. A lot going on!
*4.25 stars* The first thing you need to know about Victoria Sue’s engrossing Baby and the Panther is that the book is not a standalone. It is preceded by Book 1, Baby and the Wolf, and a prequel novella, Baby and the Bear. You must read at least Book 1 before embarking on Baby and the Panther or you will have no idea what is going on. This is a continuing storyline, and it’s simultaneously fascinating and complex and completely worth sinking into.
In this installment, we get Marco and Kai’s true mates story. Marco is a rare panther shifter hiding from his vicious mother, a Panthera of great power who nearly killed Marco in a rage when he was a teen. I found it easy to attach to and sympathize with Marco. Ms. Sue gives him great dimension and his backstory drives the storyline in this book.
Now Kai on the other hand, I had a bit of difficulty with. For quite legitimate reasons, Kai has deep trust issues. Yet, I found myself resenting his treatment of Marco for a large portion of the book. Ironically, Ms. Sue did such a great job crafting Kai that his trauma eclipses the bonding between him and Marco.
Baby and the Panther maintains excellent pacing unlike Baby and the Wolf, which lumbered along at times due to multiple, convoluted storylines. Here, Ms. Sue drops us into the action from page one, and the plot hooks you and doesn’t let go.
Note, however, that this is not really a romance. Marco and Kai’s relationship takes a back seat to the dramatic engagements with Marco’s family and the evil Harker and his pack. Additionally, the book contains a great deal of on-page (and off-page) violence and abuse, both sexual and physical. Ms. Sue depicts the horrors of shifter politics rather heavy-handedly in my opinion. Also, I did not see any trigger warnings, which seems irresponsible particularly in light of the content.
That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed Baby and the Panther. It’s dark and gritty yet addictive, so the cliffy ending hurts. It’ll be a long wait until January to find out what happens with Zeke and Darriel. Catch up on the series in the meantime and join me in the wait for the next exciting story. The main characters, Kai and Marco are good, they have the background story, the interests, the conflicts and personality to make this a great romance. But... just like in the previous book their relationship moves in slow awkward steps and jerky fast jumps that make the whole thing unbelievable and unpleasant to read.
Plot wise this book also has potential. There's a lot to build suspense, drama, conflict and excitement. At times that's how it felt, but happenings were made either nonsensical or ridiculous by the characters reactions. While they had reasons to fight, make up and for their relationship to move forward through the difficulties they were living... the plot had a lot of meaningless drama and unnecessarily loops of angst to fill up written space, adding to that some secondary characters that ended up making no sense within the story, not because they didn't belong but because of how "out of character" they acted or spoke.
The novela isn't without good stuff. Not only does it have potential... there was also some good humor, the relationship between the omegas in the pack is fun and sweet. Kai already is entertaining and my interest was peaked in further installments by mentions of other possible relationships and information on new characters.
So, I'll give a 2 stars. I don't precisely recommend the book. I will read book 3, since I did get the impression of improvement. Maybe I'll check out other books by the author. I insist there's talent and she can probably present better pieces with the right editing and fact checking. Her characters, plots and world building have the makings of great stories, and that keeps me a little hopeful for future reads.
I was gifted my copy of this book. That i write a review was not required.
This is book 2 in the Shifter Rescue series, and you really SHOULD read book one, Baby And The Wolf before this one. It sort of follows on but much happens in that book that isn't fully recapped here. I did read that one, but didn't enjoy it very much.
THIS one, however, is a much better read and I have no idea why!
We met Marco and Kai in book one, and Marco knew they were mates, but to keep Kai safe, he had to let him go. And look how well THAT turned out, huh? Now they face a battle to find Kai's baby, and with each other, to trust again. Just as they get there, they are betrayed by someone they never expected to hurt them.
This is a much darker read, I thought, than book one. There is a good deal of violence, but to be honest, it is NEEDED to get the point across, just how far some people will go to get what they want, and WHO they want.
But that violence is tempered by the love that Marco clearly has for Kai and his baby, even if Kai keeps him at arms length for much of the book. You know why Kai does that, and you feel for both of them.
I did get a bit confused with the Panther hierachy thing at times, and I gave up trying to get my head round it. I got what I needed, and left the rest of it behind. It's propbably just me, not fully concentrating, is all.
We are set up nicely for book 3, with a cliffhanger ending and I look forward to reading that book! But gotta wait til January next year!
Like I said, a much MUCH better read (for ME) than book one!
Kai has big trust issues that just get worse as there is trouble within his new pack. As we left Elliott and Ryker's story, Elliott had just received a frantic call from Kai. With this call, Marco is on edge because he feels responsible for Kai leaving and now in danger. This is where vengeful wolves enter the picture. Rescue Squad has their paws full of issues surrounding the rescue of Kai and then his son Maddox. During all of this, Marco is trying to keep his panther hidden because his mother is a spiteful and selfish Panthera on the west coast. Let's just say height of family drama there. This is our panther clan issue which thankfully, Regina helps out with. With all of these things happening he is still trying to prove to Kai that he can be trusted as a mate and father to little Maddox. This one is full of things happening with the pack adding some cubs and pups from another pack along with a few unmated omegas. They also take in another omega that sets Kai on edge but may also be a mate for Fox?! Can't wait for that one! We also can't leave out Zeke who, once again, plays a vital role in the story. He also could be mate to our pregnant bedridden friend, Darriel. So much going on and I love it. You need to read from the start of the series to keep up with everyone and the details behind each character. You will enjoy it if you like omegaverse, mpreg and with action thrown in.
Omg first I need to get the ahhhh!!! Out. Omg!!! I need the next book! This was Kai’s and Marcos story. You may remember Kai from the first book. Emmet tried to get pregnant him to stay but he wouldn’t. We go through the journey of what happened after Kai left. And we learn about Marco. This was a rocky ride to their HEA but it we got there. The writing was amazing, this author knows how to pull you in. The smexy was HAWT!!! And the side character you already love. Don’t let the cover fool you into thinking this is just another sappy insta love shifter book. This series has everything I want in a shifter book and these characters have to fight to get their HEA. This book isn’t really a stand-alone you need info from the previous book tho understand what’s going on, and about the world. I’m so ready for the next book. Great cliff hanger. Oh Zeke, what will we do with you.
This second book is definitely not a standalone. It needs to be read after the first book in the Shifter Rescue series. Many shifter readers believe the most dangerous are lions, wolves, or grizzlies. Well in this world successfully built by Victoria Sue, Panthers are at the top of the predator hierarchy - females in particular. And while the Panthers play a huge role in this book The Omegas interactions and relationships are secondary only to the MCs. The way each pack treats their Omegas and young has created the need for a shifter rescue.
Stubborn, obstinate, hard headed Alpha and scared Omega Daddies do what they consider is in the best interest of each other. But you need both parties alive and free for any semblance of a HEA. This is a violent, ugly shifter society with terrible Alphas who think they have the right, power, strength, alliances, and enforcers to do whatever they please.
I've really been on an angst free kick lately so this one was a bit of a shock to the system. At its core, this is actually a book about a sweet romance between Marco and Kai with Marco having to show his mate that he can be trusted and Kai struggling with a lot of trust issues (I just wanted to give them both a hug!). Their actual romance is lovely to read and is sweetly paced. The book as a whole though is quite angsty, so be prepared. There are some really heartbreaking moments in this. That's not to say it's not still great and seeing that Marco and Kai get through some pretty horrible things and find their happiness is wonderful. The series is coming on really well; each book leaves me wanting more and counting down the days until the next book releases!
I don't have the words for how fantastic this series is. It really is best to read the series in order because we are introduced and given good backstories for how different characters got where they are. This story has the right amount of relationship conflict/building, action, adventure, mystery, betrayal, deceit, trust and good character development. Marco, is a panther shifter in hiding and the medic of the pack. He recognizes Kai as his mate. He also knows that Kai will be in danger because of his Mother the west coast Panthera. We meet a few new characters, as the pack grows based on their rescue mission statement. Will Marco save Kai? Will Kai save Marco? Will west coast Panthera succeed? Will East coast Panthera save the day? I would absolutely buy this series if it was in a box set. Great writing! Well done!
Marco, a panther shifter hiding from his brutal past, sacrifices his bond with his true mate, Kai, to keep him safe. But Kai, already scarred by rejection and abandonment, doesn’t understand the reasons and ends up running straight into the danger Marco feared. When fate brings them back together, the reunion is bittersweet—complicated by betrayal and the revelation that Kai is pregnant. Now Marco must confront not only his past but an entirely new threat, fighting for love, family, and a future neither of them ever thought possible.
I enjoyed this story with the two men who were fated to be together but had some hurdles to get past. I did find their communication and trust issues a bit silly in the end. Lots of emotions and feelings. This was an MM story with mature content set in the omegaverse with MPREG and mature content.
While this one DID have a more cookie-cutter feel to it than the first one, it was still unique enough to keep me entertained! Marco and Kai had their hands full in more ways than one. There were kids coming out of the woodwork and babies everywhere! Kidnappings, rescues, and true love... what more could a girl ask for? *grin*
As appears to be the pattern, we are left with a small cliffhanger, but have no fear Blue Ridge Pack and friends to the rescue, again, in Baby and the Billionaire (Shifter Rescue #3)!
Can a male omega trust himself enough to allow himself a HEA??
Kai, after recently moving to Mississippi, is sold to the highest bidder and his recently birthed son Maddox is ripped from him in the process. He is able to get out a quick distress call to Emmet and Ryker with the shifter rescue teams… Marco is all in when it comes to getting his fated mate back, but is he willing to confront his past in order to establish his future!? That is the question… So many obstacles in the way of love for these two, the biggest of them being themselves… several dramatic twists lie in wait for them the team and their HEA! Better read after the first book in the series as the characters continue and are all in their glory! the Blue Ridge Pack is back!!
