Well then. I'm not going to lie, this book felt like three different books. It just kept switching up the pace, leaving me guessing as to what is to come next.

I'm so excited to see in what direction this world and the characters are going to take. I am living for all these Arthur references and subtle nods.

I would have preferred it if there was more Maxim in this book, I would have LOVED to have seen "Arthur" and "Merlin" work together more closely to save the kingdom rather than worked separate. But then, I just always want more Maxim. *whispers, I love you, Maxim*. He's still my favorite character in this world (although he will doubtless be beaten by the Gawain character once he gets his book, but that's only becuase I adore Gawain with my whole heart and soul). I did like Lis in this book better than Elinor. Dragon riders always beat out princesses, I'm sorry. And when the dragon rider (or at least draco controller) is a princess herself...well

So excited for the next books to come! Especially any books with characters based off of Gawain.

I received a copy of this book from the author, all opinions, however, are my own.

Wow! This medieval YA romance has everything I have come to expect and love in a Jody Hedlund book: action-packed adventure, engaging characters, and sigh worthy romance! This book is not to be missed! I was captivated by this tale of forbidden love as Ansgar, the head of the king's knights, discovers that Lis, the woman he has fallen for, is actually the lost princess and heir to the throne.

Their journey to uncover a deadly plot against the king and escape those who want them silenced kept me hooked from first page to last and I loved every.single.bit of it!

And the romance? Well, let me just say that NO ONE writes swoony but sweet romance like Jody Hedlund. Trust me, my friends.

I loved that the series is based off of King Arthur and Excalibur yet Jody took the story and made it all her own. I am not sure how I am going to wait for the next two books in the series to release - I need them all now!

I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.

Once again I'm left breathless, and nearly speechless. It isn't often the the second book in a series will hold me the way the first one did, but this book was as equally riveting and enthralling. I am held captive by the story from the first word to the last, and I cannot wait to read the third book.

Another amazing story from Jody Hedlund! I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Hedlund’s books, and Entwined is another winner. I feel spoiled getting to read two new books from my favorite author in one week (the other being Never Leave Me, releasing January 2022), but I’m definitely not complaining!

Hedlund’s YA books are easy to devour—readers will be entirely caught up in the thrilling stories the author weaves. There were a few unfinished plot lines in Entwined that I’m excited to see continued throughout this series, but Lis and Ansgar’s story is perfectly satisfying and romantic. I can’t wait for more! 4.5/5 stars

This is a good second book to follow the first. I love when it is in someone else POV and we get new characters. This is a King Arthur type retelling with the sword in the stone, it was hinted at in the first book. These are just fun for me to read. I don't dig deep, I just enjoy and this was a good one. Can't really be read without the first one. Sweet and clean with some religion.

Book 2 in the Knights of Brethren series
Rating: 4/5

"Everything about him was engaging—his determination to protect the king, his effortless way of conversing, his intelligence and wit, his strong and compelling presence."

I just flew through this story and enjoyed every moment. The chemistry between lost Princess Lis and Sir Ansgar was so apparent even Red recognized it before the two humans. I was excited to read more in this series and the author did not disappoint. The characters are further developed and it was fun to see my literary "friends" again. Though you could probably read this story as a standalone, it would make a little bit more sense if you read the previous book, Enamored, first. I believe this series will be four books total and I will be reading more in this series.

“The greatest honor a man can experience is dying to himself and living for a greater cause.”

The author's characters and settings are so well done and the loose retelling of the King Arthur world is beautiful. This story was such a fun escape into Arthurian times but also included some faith aspects which I found appropriate and not forced. Lis must come to grips with her past and her heritage. Ansgar must deal with accusations of treason while trying to protect the king. As frustrating as villains are, the author does a great job with developing her villains and setting up the next books.

“One can never gain something truly valuable without sacrifice.”

Highly recommend for those that enjoy an explosive love story with dragons, bargains, and the magic of the real Excalibur!

Content: Clean read with some violence and action scenes.

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

Absolutely love Arthurian Medieval series! After reading Enamored, I couldn’t wait to read Entwined. If possible, I loved Entwined even more. Full of suspense, action, tantalizing romance, and an amazing story that alludes to both Excalibur and Queen Esther, this book immediately pulled me in. Enamored ended on a cliffhanger and this book picks the story up right where it left off.

Sir Ansgar is all that a knight should be: handsome, strong, brave, and full of integrity. His highest duty is to protect the king. Since the last battle, the wounded king has been acting strange. As Ansgar tries to determine what’s causing the king to deteriorate, the very traitors he is seeking falsely accuse him of treason and he is forced to flee for his life.

Living a quiet life on a remote farm, Lis’ life was disrupted when she and her faithful dragon Red were drawn into battle and she discovered she’s the long lost Princess Elisbet. Overhearing a plot against the king, she seeks out Sir Ansgar. The palpable attraction between the two is off the charts as each tries to deny their feelings. Later, when Ansgar arrives at her farm wounded and near death, Lis does all she can to restore him to health. With the kingdom in peril, they embark on an impossible quest to find a way to save the king.

I loved the flirtatious relationship and chemistry between Lis and Ansgar. Though there’s an undeniable attraction, their desire to do what’s right endeared them to me. Favorite tropes of forbidden love and a fake marriage add to the irresistible romance. And let me tell you, Jody Hedlund definitely knows how to write heart stopping clean romance, yet compliments it with strong messages of faith that are seamlessly woven into the story.

I loved the references to Queen Esther and especially this quote: “If I have the power to save the king and the kingdom from the control of one as evil as Rasmus, then Father is right—perhaps God has guarded and saved me for such a time as this.”

From start to finish, this book was hard to put down. The last few chapters were especially intense and I found myself staying up late into the night to finish the book. It was well worth it! I can’t wait to read the next books in the series and see how things turn out for all the characters. Highly recommend this fabulous series, but I would especially recommend it to YA readers. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

Oh, my! This is the second book in the Knights of Brethren series, and it's a wonderful sequel to Elinor and Maxim's story. There is adventure, danger, treachery in the King's court, and a knight that we would all love to know. Sir Ansgar is loyal, true, and determined to protect both King Ulrik and a young woman named Lis. Lis, who was raised as the daughter of a farmer but is actually Elinor's older sister, and the true heir to the throne! She is both beautiful and courageous, and a perfect match for Ansgar, but he doesn't consider himself worthy of a Princess.

Author Jody Hedlund teases us with heart-racing romance, but it isn't just physical attraction that makes this couple so drawn to each other. Lis and Ansgar's powerful chemistry is matched by a deep spiritual connection. Will they survive the danger so that their swoon-worthy romance can turn into a lasting love?

Entwined is thrilling, romantic, and inspiring. Fans of medieval fantasy will especially enjoy this fascinating story that gives a new twist to the legend of Excalibur, and I myself can't wait to learn about the rest of the Knights of Brethren!

I received a digital copy from the author but there was no obligation for a favorable review.

Jody Hedlund is a new favorite. Over a stressful weekend, this book was the bright spot in my day. It would have been even if my weekend hadn't been stressful. I want to read books like this forever and ever. What can I say? I'm a sucker for forbidden love and medieval settings. If it has those two things I'm here for it. And this book has it. What more can a girl ask for?

I'm dying to read the rest of the series. I will probably have all of the Knights of Brethren books consumes before the end of next month. To be honest, it's not that unrealistic of a goal. I speed through these books. They're not super long and they're page turners. I'll let you know if I finish them before the end of next month. Please join my fan club. These books deserve it.

A new spin on the legend of Excalibur, filled with adventure and romance.

Lis grew up believing herself to the be the daughter of a farmer and his wife, but now with the kingdom in turmoil she must reclaim her birthright. Ansgar is uneasy with the changes he sees in King Ulrik's health and cannot abide standing by watching him waste away, Rasmus's scheming turns Ansgar's men against him. A thrilling adventure of daring and romance.

I was thrilled to be able to pick this book up so soon after reading Enamored, and I enjoyed getting to know a little more about the knights. Lis is natural leader, humble yet she has a strong sense of compassion and justice. Ansgar is a knight of noble character, he takes his vows seriously. He and Lis make a great team.

I liked how this story showed a different side of what was going on than the previous book, and I hope to see more of the sisters together in the future. I'm excited to see where the series will go and get to know the other knights better. A wonderful complement to Enamored, with excellent characters, romantic tension and strong plot connecting the stories!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

'One can never gain something truly valuable without sacrifice.'

Once more, Jody Hedlund brings her readers a wonderful story. This series is SO good! It has all the qualities that make for a great tale: brave knights, princesses, an evil sage and a kingdom in dire straits looking for deliverance from the machinations of those who seek to gain control of it. It is indeed a great read! I was captivated, especially with the Sword of the Magi thread. I can't wait for more in Hedlund's series! Well done!

My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book. The opinion in this review is entirely my own.

Jody Hedlund consistently delivers when it comes to any genre of book. But I must say, her YA fairy tales are my favorite. With each book, I am reminded again how skilled Hedlund is at creating a compelling story that fires my imagination and grips my whole being.

This newest book in Hedlund's Knights of Brethren series has it all: a lost princess, an evil conspirator seeking to overthrow the king, a forbidden love, and a prevailing message of sacrifice. I think I would rather sit down with this book than watch a Disney princess movie any day! Quite simply, I adored everything about this story, and I cannot wait for the next in the series!

“The greatest honor a man can experience is dying to himself and living for a greater cause.”

So so good. This second book in the Knights of Brethren series shifts focus to the Grand Marshal of the Knights Ansgar and the hidden Princess Lis who is next in line to the throne of Norvegia. Their mutual respect and fantastic banter make them a delightful couple. Ansgar’s unyielding honor, steadfast devotion and loyalty, even in the face of betrayal, make him a swoony hero. Lis’ fierce independence, intelligence, bravery and loyalty, even when faced with impossible odds, make her a worthy heroine. We do get glimpses of Maxim and Elinor from the first book, which is a lot of fun.

The Sword of Magi returns to center stage in this book and this theme has a satisfying conclusion but another search for a completely different relic starts at the end of the book. Filled with action, suspense, plot twists, lovely characters, and a hefty dose of faith, this medieval YA romance is sure to please every romance loving heart.

I received the book via publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own.

I liked these two but I wish I could have liked them more

There was insta love and no really deep and meaningful way of how they “fell in love” which is sad cuz they had the potential to be a favorite of mine. It was all lusty in some way and I hate it when a relationship is immediately based off that and not understanding or caring.

This is the second installment of the Knights of Brethren Series, and after loving Enamored, the first book, I doubted Entwined could best it and it totally did! I absolutely loved it!
This story continues where the first book left off… King Ulrik of Norvegia has been injured but finally saved thanks to Elinor and Maxim -and ultimately Lis-; the latter flee to escape Rasmus’s evil schemes to kill Princess Elinor, the childless King’s niece and and only heir to the throne. But at the end, they hint that Lis is the firstborn lost daughter of deceased Princess Blanche, the King’s sister, and Elinor’s older sister. Lis has lived a simple life next to her widowed father, helping him take care of their very isolated farm. She holds a special bond to a draco, a kind of dragon that had an important part in saving the King’s life and to whom Lis communicates from afar.
Ansgar is the highest ranked Knight of the King, and has vowed to live to protect the King’s life. But after they save the King from the battle against Swaine, the King starts to deteriorate and lose his mind. Before he can discover who might be hurting him, he is accused of treason and sent away from the Castle. After Rasmus’s pawns try to kill him, Lis’s draco, Red, unexpedly saves him and leaves him unconscious in Lis’s hands. As she and her father tend to him and help him heal, a deeply strong bond develops between Lis and Ansgar. And Lis’s father tells her the truth about her birth and how she is the rightful her to Norvegia’s throne. He asks Ansgar to take Lis to King Ulrik and present her as his true heir. Meanwhile, the men from Norvegia are trying their luck in freeing the Sword of the Magi, which legend says that only the worthiest man to be a King can free it from its case. But Rasmus may have the key to freeing the sword and it might end up in his most manipulated knight’s hands. Can Lis claim her right to the throne? Does she want to? Can Ansgar protect her life, and let his heart remain unattached, as he is not of noble blood and will never be considered royal potential?
This was an amazing adventure! I couldn’t put the book down! The plot had unique twists and turns that kept me engaged, and the characters just pulled me in! I totally fell in love with Ansgar! What a swooning hero! His integrity, his humility, his undying devotion for Lis, his willingness to sacrifice his own happiness for others, not only Lis, the King, his people! He was also an amazing protector, so courageous, and you knew that he would die to keep those he loves safe! I also loved Lis’s innocence, her straightforwardness, her sincerity, and her boldness. She was out of her comfort zone in the sense that she had never wandered much out of her father’s farm, hadn’t interacted with many people, and circumstances just threw her to the unknown, and she was willing to sacrifice everything for her King and Country. And wow! The love story was swooning! A deep attraction, yet it was sweet and solid, because it wasn’t a relationship based on only feelings or mere attraction, it was real love, the one that thinks more of what’s best for the other, for each other’s happiness before their own! A true love, I have to say!
I definitely recommend this book and series! It has everything: clean romance, adventure, danger, mystery, a terrible villain, and an inspiring message about love and sacrifice that can overcome centuries! A must read! If you love Medieval Romance with a tiny sparkle of fantasy, this is for you! It's like the real story of Excalibur!
I received a complimentary of this book but wasn’t required to post a positive review. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

This was so so good! OMG! I read this book in one day and I loved it! Entwined is the second book in Jody Hedlund’s Knights of Brethren series. This series has been so amazing, and I was blown away by Entwined. It was even better than the first book! The characters were so engaging, and I couldn't put the book down. I needed to see what was going to happen.
Liz was such a fun character because she was strong while still being kind. I really liked Liz from the beginning. I loved how she was stubborn and willing to work hard. She had to work in order to survive, and it was interesting to read about her interacting with Ansgar. I loved reading about her growth as a character as she learned what it meant to be royalty and lead a people. It was sweet to read about Liz as she started to fall for Ansgar. They were super cute together.
I loved Ansgar. He was such a noble knight. It was so cool to read about Ansgar as he sought to protect the king. It was sweet to read about him falling for Liz. They were so cute together. I liked reading about Ansgar as he learned that he was not perfect but that he could still strive to do good. He was just an amazing character! Ansgar had to learn what it would mean to fall for Liz and how to protect her.
Ansgar and Liz were perfect together. I loved their chemistry. Their lives were entwined in ways that they never would have expected. I enjoyed reading about them as they journeyed together and sought to save the kingdom. The plot was so interesting, and I was on the edge of my seat. I also love the hints of the next book and I can’t wait to see what will happen next!
Entwined is a great book! I would totally recommend it! You need to read it, the characters were awesome and I could not put the book down. Entwined is a clean YA book inspired by King Auther. I would recommend Entwined to 13 years and up, to those who enjoy fantasy romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

The first book of this series had me hooked in this magical land of Norvegia. Now, this second book has “entwined” me deeper into the whole fantasy of dracos, knights, castles, and princesses. There is beautiful pageantry and grandeur, it made the story come alive!
Jody Hedlund writes stories full of colorful images, sweet dialogue, and fierce battles with evil forces.
In this story, we continue the saga of the rightful heir to the throne of Norvegia. Can the true “worthy one” be able to save the throne from the evil schemes of Rasmus? Will Elisbet be acknowledged as the princess she is? Will Ansgar be able to protect his heart and the princess?
This is an enchanting story about love, honor, friendship, loyalty, and justice. It's also a story about making the truth of the past be known and conquering evil.
An author who can create a wonderful world that captures your mind and takes you on a journey into the unknown is an author I will read more from. Jody Hedlund is such an author.
This book had drama, suspense, action, medieval elegance, overwhelming hardship, conquering evil, and sweet romance that will knock your socks off.
I highly recommend picking this book up! It really will keep you captured!
I was given this book by the author which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

"One can never gain something truly valuable without sacrifice"

The adventures of the Knights of the Brethren continues with
Entwined, by @jodyhedlund!

In this story we follow Sir Ansgar and Lis - Their paths seem to continually cross, and soon they discover that perhaps their destinies are in fact, entwined. ❤

They have tried to fight their feelings! Knowing that their different circumstances don't allow for a romantic relationship, but they are both such good, honest, strong individuals, you're rooting for them and their love the whole way!

This book was exciting and intriguing because the romance was goooooood 🔥 [always clean, and still soo swoony! Fake relationship moments yuuuuupp] AND the storyline was full of action, adventure, and so many discoveries!! #iykyk!! So exciting! I can't say any more because spoilers, but I was so happy with how things ended 😊

[But also - the deal they made with Ulla?!?!?! I cannot wait to see how that plays out in the future!! 😱]

As always, I totally recommend this book, because Jody Hedlund is amazing! It could be read as a stand-alone... but personally I would recommend reading book 1, Enamored, first!

This book releases Dec. 7th!

Just a few pages into Entwined and the word that kept coming to mind was sizzling. Jody Hedlund started us in the middle of an adventure begun in Enamored and didn't let us catch a breath between the suspense and romance (talk about chemistry!).
The first book in this series, Enamored, gave so many pleasant surprises that I couldn't wait to see what book two presented. This series is fresh and gritty in its take on King Arthur, and from the moment we met Lis and her draco I couldn't wait to learn more about her and see her in action. I'm a book highlighter, and this book saw a lot of action as the characters give us the spicy and sweet, and the action keeps making the reader turn another page....and another. Medieval/fantasy clean romance is my genre of choice for escape and Jody Hedlund is one of my absolute favorites, a master at it.

This book has it all—princesses, knights, intrigue, and romance! Like all Jody Hedlund’s young adult books, this one is easy to devour and I think I read it in only two sittings. The plot flows well and the twists and turns of danger kept my attention easily. Both Lis and Ansgar have troubles they must handle, but I enjoyed their character development and their relationship as it grew in the story. The descriptions and scenes are well written such that as a reader you have no problem picturing this fantastical land. I think it is best to read this series in order as the storyline does continue between novels (and this one leaves some unfinished details). I simply cannot wait to read the next two books in the series!

Ok well 4.75 actually. My only complaint about this second offering from Jody’s Knights of Brethren series is that I wanted it to be a bit longer!

Entwined follows on from Enamored but follows different characters. This is Lis and Sir Ansgar’s story even though the other characters are still there from the previous book.

The king is ailing and Lis knows he is being poisoned and knows just the person who could save his life. However, what can she do living out on a farm with her father.

Sir Ansgar is banished from court and ends up being tended back to health by Lis. Together they must work to try to save the king from his enemies but it seems like an impossible task. Lis is coming to terms with her heritage and as such Ansgar and Lis must fight their growing feelings for one another.

Another fantastic, adventure/fantasy/romance/Excalibur/ mediaeval/Christian ya novel.

Ansgar and Lis are wonderful characters and you root for them the whole way through the book.

Lovely ending with an unexpected turn. Nicely leading into book 3 which I can’t wait to read.

Highly recommended and good clean romance.

Really a 3.5 Star read. I enjoyed this book, in fact I think I liked it more than the last one and I am starting to get into the world the author has created. There were a few things which irked me though: some loose ends were simply ignored.

There were also some tropes which kind of got on my nerves as well, or just came over as unrealistic, but aside from that I did like this as vaguely fairytale-like adventure story with dragons. A couple of parts kind of reminded me of Dragonheart, which is one of my guilty pleasures, although I think some of the lore involving dragons might have been borrowed from Game of Thrones/HTTYD as well.

Would recommend for YA readers, and adults who enjoy fairytale or fairytale style romances and retellings and light fantasy.

Lis has lived a simple life and plans to continue doing so even though she has found out something about her heritage. She realizes that she needs to step up and take her rightful place, she doesn't and continues to help out on the family farm. As things continue to stay unsettled an unexpected visitor comes to hide out on the farm. It is a knight who has been accused of treason and must find a safe place to stay until he can clear his name. As he and Lis come to know each other, the must work out all of the differences that will come between them.

I have really enjoyed this series and look forward to hopefully seeing what will transpire next.

I've never had a special relationship with a pet, but this book would be perfect for someone who does. As the second book in the Knights of Brethren series, we learn more about Elinor's newly discovered sister who is the true heir to the throne of Norvegia, and we get to know another of the king's most trusted knights. They are determined to not become romantically involved in spite of the attraction that is evident to anyone who sees them. I recommend reading this young adult medieval romance series in the intended order. As always, it is clean and promotes Christian values.

Entwined was everything I wanted and more. This series has been so fun to read, and I'm so glad the books have released (somewhat) close together! Ansgar and Lis are basically perfect for each other, but only in a way that Hedlund could join them.

Entwined gives readers romance, danger, action, a little mystery, and so much more. In all honesty, it was extremely hard to put this book down. Hedlund keeps you on your toes wondering what's happening next, where will the characters go, and how will it all turn out. It's one of the reasons I love reading her novels so much - they are just non stop!

If you are looking for a high paced story to read, I highly recommend this one. This series actually. I am now impatiently awaiting the next book to come out. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I didn’t think it was possible, but this second book is even BETTER than the first! ENTWINED jumps right into the action/adventure for Ansgar and Lis, while still providing enough background details for those who haven’t read the previous book.

Loved the dialogue containing wit and wisdom along with solid themes like courage, sacrifice, love, and duty. Finished the book within a day…it’s that addicting a read! And while this book is completely appropriate for teen readers up through adults, it is no slouch in the romance department! Could feel the chemistry crackle between Ansgar and Lis!! Always refreshing to read a tale of chivalrous romance.

(Some might be a tad concerned about the “curse” that threatens Lis, but today we’d call it a hereditary illness/disease.)

Anyway, loved it and now can’t wait to get my hands on book three!

Honestly, this has been one of the best book series that I've read this year!
I loved this story so much! First, I have to say that I really liked reading about Ansgar and Lis in the first book in the series Enamored, although they were mostly in the background of the story at that time, I was really excited to read more about them in this the 2nd book in the series.
You're going to want to read both and when you're finished you can join the rest of us in waiting for the next book in the series!
I really loved the chemistry between Ansgar and Lis and I was wondering till the very end of the book how and if everything was going to work out so they could be together!
This series has been a great twist on the story of Excalibar! Can't wait for the next book!

wow

A whirlwind of a read. Fantastic. The first page drew me in and I couldn’t put it down until it ended.
