When Weston Hatfield rides back into town like he owns it, I don’t want anything to do with him.

I definitely don’t want to take the mean boy from my youth out on my tour boat.

Or laugh with him as we watch the whales play in the Bay.

Know what else I don’t want to do? Fall for him.

He’s an NHL superstar…I’m a girl who knows her way around a lobster boat. Can you say opposites?

But I like who I am, and you know what? I’m beginning to think he likes me for who I am, too.

Until he does the one thing that proves otherwise…the one thing I’m not sure I can come back from.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, Weston and Charlie. Two different souls, one with hurt, one with only nostalgia from his past, this was a fiery and confronting combination of the two that I was not prepared for.

Even though there are several obstacles that come between this lovely couple such as Charlie's distrust for Weston and Weston not being much of a settler, a player in more words, fate is damned to make sure that nothing stays obstructing their path to love and finally finding peace from their demons in each other.

With fantabulous writing, laugh-out-loud moments, fiery chemistry and even fiercer emotional bonding, this novel was unputdownable and left me wanting more of the other players in the series.

Until the next read,

love to be canadian

Loved this book. Maybe the idea it's written in Nova Scotia. It's true what they say. Nova Scotian are welcoming people to be around. They take pride in their heritage. Now I want to visit Briar Islands. Take a trip near Digby. You will fall in love with our Canadian slang and our food. Charlie and Wes are funny and could their attraction be more than a summer fling. The Rookie is about a Canadian boy that followed is passion of hockey and comes back home when he can. Love, love this book.

A fun, relatively light-hearted read. Weston Hatfield might be the 'Rookie' NHL hockey player but back in Digby, Nova Scotia he's still just the boy from the farm who turned out to be good at hockey.

Back visiting his home town with some friends, he runs into Charlie, a girl he knew of from his school days. When a 'fake-dating' opportunity arises, he's eager to take it as a way to get Charlie on side as she seemingly hates him.

When a weekend trip brings them closer than they thought, the two find they're willing to take their game a little futher.

I really liked both of the main characters in this. Wes is charming and playful, but it's sweet to see him cheering Charlie on and recognising her strengths. And whilst Charlie might have some doubts internally, outwardly she seems quite confident in herself and is used to being independent.

Although this didn't have any real surprises to it, I rated this 4 stars because it flowed nicely and had a good storyline. I do wish we'd have gotten to see more of what happened between Breton and Wes though as there appeared to be more to that story at one point? Likewise, I think it would've been nice to have seen more about the misunderstanding with Les, as for me, that seemed to resolve itself a little too quickly. However, this was a quick, light read for me and I enjoyed the relatively fast past and heat between the pair. Likewise, i also really liked Rider and Jules' characters, they seemed really chill so I hope to be able to go back and read their book at some point.

*ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

*The Rookie is book 10 in the Players on Ice series, however it can be read as a standalone.

A spicy tale of second chances, hot romance and past regret that will stir something deep within the heart. He's trying to live down his past mistake. She's trying to forget the worst decision she ever made. With the odds stacked against them and the town secretly rooting for them, odds are good that things are about to get complicated. The Rookie is my favorite type of read. Small town romance drowning in heart, hope and humor. Fox turns a heartbreaker into a heartwarming romance.

I like the idea of the book and I even enjoy reading it at the beginning that why I decide to give it 3 stars. Wes and Charlie have chemistry I can't deny BUT I lost my interest after 50% of the book because (I totally agree with Jules) they need to talk to each other. I like Charlie but the reason she holds grudge against Wes is a little bit unreasonable and I don't understand her about her job because she seems to know what she wants to do and she is happy with her small town life. Wes is a rookie but he is also a farm boy through and through which shouldn't be problem at all but both of them have their issues about love and what they lack is communication. They just assume to the worst in their own heads which makes me feel a little bit annoyed. I have to skim reading it after 80% of the book because I can't tolerate with their assumptions anymore.

The Rookie definitely had a heroine that I don't oftentime come across in all my reading but that's a draw to me because of that originality. Weston is a pro hockey player who is a farm boy through & through, while Charlie is a girl who knows her way on a lobster boat. He comes home to visit & Charlie doesn't want anything to do with him so it's safe to say she has trust issues when it comes to him. So you can only imagine how cranky she may or may not have gotten when she was the one to take him out on her boat for a tour LOL! And while Weston is that farm boy at heart who just so happens to be really good at hockey, he's not the settling down type (or is he?!). These two have serious chemistry shooting sparks all over the place, but Charlie is definitely putting him through the paces. I will say that The Rookie is a lighter read even with the demons that plague these two, there's still quite a bit of hilarious moments that had me laughing hard. These two are complete opposites but you know what they say about that. To see how it will all play out you know what to do especially since I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

I was lucky and 'scored' this title at the recent Romance Fiction Literary Salon hosted by Dartmouth Book Exchange, in celebration of Bookstore Romance Day, in which the author was in attendance.

I really liked reading about the farm boy who just happens to be good at hockey, Weston Hatfield, the Rookie. This is only the 3rd book I have read in Cathryn Fox's Players on Ice series, and this book is the 10th in the series, so they can be definitely read as stand-alone novels and still be enjoyed. I also liked the very capable Charlie, Charlotte, who is strong, independent, and desirable even in her overalls and rubber boots. I enjoyed the fact that the book is set in 3 places in my home province of Nova Scotia; the Halifax Waterfront, Digby, and Brier Island, with mentions of our Beaver Tail delicacies, the Harbour Hopper, and Whale watching. I am looking forward to reading more books set locally by this author.

I am so in love with Wes and Charlie! They made my book loving heart happy! Why you ask? Because I loved that they were Canadian and everything that entails! Reading this book made me miss home (Canada) so much but proves that you can take the girl out of Canada but you can’t take Canada out of the girl!

The Rookie is a small town, kind of, sort of, enemies to lovers and friends with benefits (you need to read it to understand 😉), sports romance. Wes and Charlie are from the same small town in Nova Scotia but their lives could not be more different. She’s a spitfire, he’s a giant teddy bear and together they are amazing!

I loved how they found their way to one another and got their incredible happily ever after. I’m giving The Rookie the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!

The rookie (Players on ice 10)

This is the tenth book in this series by this author. This is the story of Weston and Charlie, these two characters are so heart warming together but with some hot and steamy chemistry too. This is a small town romance at its best. This book is filled with swoon worthy moments, second chance love, heartbreak and hope. The story is so gripping you’ll want to read this book in one sitting. This is an amazing addition to this series from this author.

I was given an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my honest review

This is the 10th book in this awesome series and is Charlie and Weston’s story. Weston is an NHL superstar who returns to his hometown, and he cross’ paths with Charlie who went to school with him. The chemistry between these two is combustible and undeniable, and they are complete opposites but compliment each other perfectly, and they have some challenges to overcome along the way. This is a well written light0hearted story, which is fun, endearing, and with witty banter, humor, emotions, regret, and love, which leads to an entertaining and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Weston is a professional hockey player who finds himself spending time in his hometown where he reunites with a girl from his past however she wants nothing to do with him and he is determined to change her mind.

Charlie loves her life in Nova Scotia and the lobster boat she manages. Her past has shown her that men shouldn’t be trusted so the last thing she needs is to cross paths with a man that she knew as a boy.

Weston and Charlie take us on an entertaining journey filled with witty banter and great chemistry.

A quick, easy read and such a cute story about reconnecting with somebody from your past and getting over old misunderstandings. However, how many times can one person write "just a farm boy who's good at hockey"?

Short but sweet

And hot! An easy, light read but with enough depth to develop a relationship and make it believable. I do like this series.
