June Mabee is a lot of things.
She’s the girl next door.
She’s the best friend I ever had.
She was my first kiss, as awkward as it was.
And she’s the last person I should have feelings for. Ever.

Two years ago, I cut all ties with her because I had no choice. No more late night phone calls, no hellos or goodbyes, not even a passing smile. I left her to wonder what happened to

This was book 4 in the series. It's from book 1 but Lucas' pov. I like that we got a good recap of book 1. And I like it from the H pov. As always great writing by Ginger. Great character build. Such a good story. ...more

When I first read Varsity Heartbreaker I was completely enamored with Lucas Fuller. Varsity Heartbreaker is told from the heroine's point of view but I could tell that there was so much going on behind the scenes when it came to her love interest, Lucas Fuller. I was so delighted when I saw tha
This was addictive in the way that Ginger Scott books often are. The story itself was just ok for me, though. I wasn't a huge Lucas fan when I read the first book in this series, so I was hoping getting his perspective would help shed a little light on why he was such a jerk to June. It doesn't really, though. The reason for him not talking to her (which I always was thought was a little sketchy to begin with) is not really expanded on at all here. He would be a dick to her and then think "I act ...more

I read a sample from the Hit Summer School nights Anthology and unfortunately I did not like this one ( Sorry - But I did adore Scott’s Wild Reckless)

Lucas is not a swoon worthy character he’s a dick. Through and through.

June has no character.

And Ava is dreadful. I wanted to gauge her eyes out with a spoon.

That’s not to say others won’t enjoy it I just couldn’t gel with the characters.

Maybe I need to read it as a whole book and get a proper feel for the characters?

Varsity Captain is a second chance romance that has two people crossing paths some time later. Lucas and June have suffered at the hands of their parents through lies that drove them apart, taking a friendship that was everything to nothing. Questions will be finally answered that were left previously hanging in the balance and the angst will be seriously high and will have you on the edge of your seat. June will suffer at the hands of his Lucas's ex and her drama and torment. Their story will s ...more

There's something to be said about having a favorite Author who always gives you a book you can sink your teeth into and simply, escape. I read several genres and when it comes to YA/NA Ginger is the Master.

This is the H's side of the first book in the Varsity series. Everyone has the fear that a book like this would be just a few words changed around. With Varsity Captain that is definitely not the case. Ginger gives Lucas a true voice in this flip side and I'm blown away. Truly. Ginger doesn'

DEAR GOD LUCAS FULLER AND JUNE MABEE OWN ME! I thought I couldn’t love them more after reading Varsity Heartbreaker, but as always, Ginger Scott proves me wrong by offering me their story through the eyes of Lucas. They tug my heartstrings in all the beautiful and aching ways. I absolutely inhaled this book and I hate myself for it. Hearing his thoughts, though, help fill in holes from the VH that I didn’t know I wanted filled. Scott really does a brilliant job at getting inside the head of Luca ...more

One of the reasons I have so little time to review books anymore is bloody TikTok. I spend far too much time on that app for someone in their 30s, but it did lead me to this book.

I wasn’t aware this was book 4 in a series. I read it as a standalone and didn’t realise until after, so I think it’s safe to dive in.

I wasn’t overly enamoured by this. June was a bit bland for my liking and Lucas was a bit of a selfish dick. Plus the storyline lacked any real originality.

When I read Varsity Heartbreaker I really wanted Lucas's point of view. Lucas was frustrating to say the least in that book. I just wanted to shout at him to give it up and admit to what was going on with him. The secrecy around his character was fabulous for the storyline with June, but it felt like something was missing. The thing that was missing was Varsity Captain. I am
This book is from Lucas's point of view. I really loved meeting him and learning about his history. I didn't like him at first, but he really grew on me as the book went on. I liked how he grew up and left his toxic relationships behind and matured. The way he cared about June was awesome. He messed up and owned up to his mistakes. Also, June carried a lot of spunk. She wanted to know the truth and wasn't afraid to go after what she wanted. The book does deal with serious topics as to many of th ...more

Having read Varsity Heartbreaker and other books in the Varsity world I've been looking forward to more! So when i found out about this one i knew i had to pick it up! I enjoyed this story!

I was so curious about this book when it was announced and when i found out it'd be from Lucas's point of view i wanted to get into his mind. I was so glad to jump back into Lucas and June's journey once again but in this new way! I really liked getting to dig deeper into this story. Once again, I loved how i

If you've read Varsity Heartbreaker, you know this story, but this one is from Lucas Fuller's point of view, which I loved, because you don't always get the guy's thoughts. This one also gave you some added content, which only added to the story, so overall, I really loved it. It was so nice being back in this world. Highly recommended! ...more

This all is the lead up to Varsity Heartbreaker and its from Lucas’ point of view. He was a guy I didn’t care for at first but by the end I understood him better. I have to say that June’s story broke my heart.

Lucas Fuller, I’m in love with you!
This author writes some of the most satisfying mature YA, in my opinion.
It has all the angst of teens, not over the top or manufactured. Real life stuff. And it’s written so smart, with the emotions and the flow of the story is perfection.
She writes the butterflies of all those new and “first” experiences so beautifully and never fails to have me right there in the moment with the characters. Nervous, giddy and emotional. I feel vulnerable like a teenager. It
This book is the other POV from Varisty Heartbreaker. So, we get Lucas Fuller's side of the story and get to see a bit more what happens when the doors are closed. While I was super excited for this, I don't feel as though I got too much more into Lucas' head. I did walk away disliking his father even more. June's personality didn't shine through in this side of the story as I expected it would. There were even times when I was a bit disappointed in Lucas' thinking - more so than in Varsity Hear ...more

Such an unexpected surprise for those of us who loved and devoured the original trio of Varsity books, Varsity Captain was the extra cherry on top of what I consider one of Ginger Scott's best love stories ever. A part of me had almost forgotten the pain June Mabee and Lucas Fuller endured as their best friend status went from 100 to zero almost overnight. How they suffered from the sins and lies of their parents and fell out of rhythm with each other. As we now get Lucas's side of what transpir ...more

I'm always excited when an author retells a story from another perspective, and that is what Ginger Scott has done in Varsity Captain. I'd read Lucas and June's story before in Varsity Heartbreaker, Book #1 in the Varsity series, but that book was told from June's POV. With Varsity Captain, we get inside Lucas's head, and it gives their story an entirely new feel.

I'll admit that when I first started reading this book, many of the details of Lucas and June's story were a little fuzzy, but it only

Varsity Captain is Lucas' POV of the events in Varsity Heartbreaker, the first book in the Varsity series. I was intrigued by Lucas' perspective during the time I read the first book. I understood why it was important to get only June's POV during that book. But I wanted to know what was going on in Lucas' head and heart. That's the reason I was very excited when Varsity Captain was announced.

It was fantastic to be back in the Varsity series world. I absolutely love these

I have loved every book I have read by Ginger Scott. To me, this one was not on the same level of drama as her other books. But I am completely ok with that. This was a sweet, all-consuming read. Lucas and June have been friends since they were eight years old. They are next-door neighbors. They are each other's confidants until Lucas learns about an affair between June's mom and his father.
Trying to keep his family together and happy, he shuns June. He goes out with her worst enemy, and he does

June Mabee is the girl that has had his heart from the moment they met, but these days they are enemies that can't stand the sight of one another. There is not a day that goes by that he doesn't regret hurting her and cutting her off two years ago. Ginger Scott's newest mature, coming-of-age sports romance is Lucas Fuller's tale.

"You were never a mistake."

Varsity Captain is book 4 in her Varsity series, connecting all the wonderful characters that we have come to love, but now with a twist...a story from Lucas's POV regarding all his confused feelings when he starts his Senior Year and comes face to face with a person he had tried to distance himself from, June Mabee.

Author Ginger Scott can always be counted on for a good read. Her writing style and storytelling are perfection. In Varsity Captain, the author gives us a story of angst, family drama and love from the guy’s point of view.

Lucas Fuller and June Mabee were first introduced to readers in Varsity Heartbreaker- a fabulous five-star read. We re-read their story in Varsity Captain from Lucas’ point-of view. Ms. Scott has given readers a little something more than just a simple retelling. Seeing June fr

I have waited for June and Lucas's full book for quite a while. Its timeline happens before Varsity Tiebreaker so I am a little bit confuse at first. But after I catch up with the timeline, I think it makes sense and fulfill a story in Varsity Tiebreaker more.

Now about this book, the story is full of angst and tension between Lucas and June. It is so intense and heartbreaking at the same time. I cry a few times while I am reading it because I feel sorry for what Lucas has been through. Yet I st

I just loved every single thing about this amazingly perfect story . Sports romances are one of my very favorite tropes in romance !!! And man does Ginger Scott have such a gift for writing them so brilliantly. Luca and June . Best friends growing up , she was literally the center of Luca’s world . Due to certain things that happen ( everything changes for them ) what happens when the person who was once everything to you is no longer that . Wow just wow !!! I really could not stop reading once ...more
