It’s school festival time and that means mayhem, but first our heroine has to deal with her erstwhile “enemies”. Also, Osaki comes to school and manages to find Tamamo’s hair apparents.

Oh god, this volume is, to use my favourite phrase, on fire from the get-go. From one rival turning out to not be a tanuki but a trash-ass raccoon from North America to quite possibly the funniest cross-dressing joke I have ever seen.

The ne’er-do-well furries of the degenerate photography club steal so much of this first section. They are not even hiding their thirst at this point, but are so bad at it (minus one locker room shot that’s going to cause an ass kicking) that it’s utterly hilarious.

Just as good is the part where the girls, fuelled by years of shojo manga, start to re-enact what they expect to happen during festival preparations, which leads to the boys cowering in terror at the unreasonable gender expectations being thrust upon them.

And despite all this, the book is anchored by a strong bond of friendship between the lead trio and it’s that core sweetness that makes the sharper stuff stand out and land better. The balance struck isn’t perfect, but it’s very good.

Tamamo remains delightful by virtue of her sheer joy at everything and also her unintentional divinity (they should not let her collect votes). Between blessing pop-up businesses and being able to supernaturally track her friends’ relationships she’s super fun.

I also like how the “evil” wolverine at school is nothing of the sort and turns out to be a shy girl who wants a friend. Her radio show with Tamamo turns out to be really sweet and it’s cute the lengths she goes to to hide her feelings from her raccoon pal.

There’s entirely too much good stuff in this book - the school festival is a blast, there’s a pretty fun hiking section (stolen by a couple of tengu), and Osaki, Tamamo’s little sister, gets her own chapter that is very funny and also has some amazing horror-comedy that just keeps escalating.

The book’s biggest failing remains that every single adult figure is some variation of awful and frequently horny awful. Fortunately this isn’t the predominant vibe of the book. And Tenko takes some of the edge off since she spends a lot of time tricking gullible horny teenagers.

And despite my appreciation for some of their antics, there is no question that the photography club crosses the line at a couple points. It definitely skirts being uncomfortable, but I was able to deal. Your own mileage will vary.

4 stars - the book has a heart as big as its main character is fluffy and it’s still so funny that I laughed more than once. Caveats aside, duly rewarded for its efforts.

I've enjoyed this well enough but I think I've hit my limit on the gags.

While Yuuki Ray still hasn't topped the first volume in my eyes, I still really like this series. It's episodic slice of life, but really good slice of life.

Story: Tamamo has basically no story besides adding new characters, school life, etc. That's not a bad thing though, as Ray excells at writing a fun story. Especially here. This one was super enjoyable to read. There's not much wrong with the volume as well. All the chapters have really fun and memorable mini stories. Nothing too special to write home about though.

Characters: There's also some more Osaki, who's my favorite fox! We also get some of the Weasel girl who's easily my favorite non-fox. She has a cute relationship with the rest of the cast. For Tamamo being the title character however, I still don't think she's the best protag, her comical personality might get a bit old fast. The characters aren't the most interesting but they work well with the comedy.

Art: I feel like the art is getting better every volume, either that or I'm just imagining it. Nothing too special, but the style is growing on me. The expressions are good too.

All in all, a really good slice of life manga so far.

It is time for the cultural festival, both the preparation and the event itself. Tamamo's presence gives it a lot more traditional festival feel. The tanuki (or raccoon) and weasel are trying to outdo Tamamo-chan and her sisters, but the weasel is a lot more friendly than she appears to be at a first glance. Like previous volumes, a nice entertaining read on high school life mixed with some traditional Japanese culture events. Great characters. Although at times things drag on a bit long. All in all, a good read.
