Thirty year old veterinarian Beckett Rosa runs a small town animal clinic. When he isn’t at his beloved home away from home, Lakeside Animal Hospital, he spends his time mixing it up and basking in the beauty of the single life. He’s an insufferable flirt, a proud ladies man, and completely incapable of toning down his over-friendly demeanour for the sake of not making a scene, but what happens when Tabitha Lawrence—plain, smart, and in a committed relationship—applies to work at Lakeside?Tabitha breezed through her degree and boasts a number of years experience as a vet. Not to mention, she’ll be the first to point out the graduate certificate framed and hung on her wall—with honors, of course. But when she moves to a town that requires only one vet, she settles for the far inferior position of ‘assistant’, though she holds high hopes to soon join her new boss in the examination room.It will only be a matter of time before Beckett sees her competence and begs her to join him.Right?Unfortunately, Tabitha’s plans go wayward when Beckett has no interest in bringing in a new vet. Instead, his demands lean more toward coffee collection, phone answering, and social calendar organizer, and he has zero guilt that the dates he forces Tabby to schedule tend to rhyme; Jana, Lana, Drama.Tabitha refuses to play a role in Beckett’s disastrous circus act, but when she sets out to inform him of that, more than animal instincts activate.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Once again I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing Emilia Finn is. Emilia Finn is an Amazon Top 20 bestselling, Australia-based author with more than 55 books written and published to date.
She's a mom, a coffee addict, a collector of quirky coffee mugs, and before she had kids, she was a real-life full-contact fighter.
Her experience on the fight circuits helped her pen her first ever book—Finding Home—featuring a world champion MMA fighter Bobby Kincaid, and his leading lady and equal in every way, Kit Reilly. What was only supposed to be a once off experience instead turned into a career for Emilia, a thriving empire, and a daily grind she never wants to be rescued from.

I know I have said this before but Spencer and Abigail (Winner Takes All) have always been my favorite couple. I have read their book at least twice, and I know I have skimmed my favorite parts multiple times. I think the best parts are really the family dynamics between the Rosas. It's like they are the Brady Bunch, The Cleavers, and the Munsters all rolled into one. They are toxically dependent on each other, but they don't see anything wrong with that. Mitch's story with Nadia has finally come full circle. Nixon wormed his way into Idalia and Max's little family, and now Beckett is going to take the fall. Another Rosa is going to bite the dust.
Dr Beckett Rosa exhibits all the classic signs of middle child syndrome. He's an unapologetic attention seeking playboy. Smooth as silk, he'll flirt with anyone. Seriously! Two-legged and four-legged females can't resist his charms. At first, I couldn't believe this guy ever got through vet school. Not very many people have the discipline or the focus to graduate a program of that caliber. How did Beckett ever do it when he only has tunnel vision for members of the opposite sex?
Tabitha Lawerence is new in town. The agreement was that she would move first, and her boyfriend, Mark, would move at a later date once things were settled. He's the main reason for this change as he's just accepted a new position. There are some things you do for love, and this is one of them. Tabby believes it will all work out in the end. She'll get a new job as the admin assistant in the clinic, and eventually Beckett will realize he can't live without her as another vet. It will all work out perfectly. The only problem is that she can't stand her new boss's flyboy ways. Tabby is one of the only people who can see right through him and calls him on his nonsense. She has a boyfriend any way so it shouldn't matter what he does with his personal time, or does it?
There's everything that you would expect to love in this novel. A Dr. McHotty. A strong heroine who doesn't buy into the office drama. Prior characters who make appearances, including a piggy in a tutu. Plenty of Rosa and Lawerence Family shenanigans, and a declaration that is utterly amazing. When Beckett lays his heart out at Tabby's feet, it's one of the most beautiful moments that I have read in a really long time. He's a man possessed, but he has to take the chance that Tabby will listen to him. Mark isn't right for her. He is, and he's standing right in front of her. I am not sure I would call it a grovel, but it's pretty close.
There is one thing that I didn't like about this book. About 40 percent of the way through, I felt like there was a disconnect in the story. I wasn't sure if it was a weird transition that wasn't smoothed out or if I really did miss something. I am not quite sure how to explain it. You're reading. The story is building, and all of a sudden there is a major conflict that doesn't have the proper buildup. It's not a huge big deal, but it did leave some lingering doubt that dampened the rest of the story. I am not sure who my favorite Rosa is, but Beckett is definitely in the top 5. On to the next.
This might be more of the case for "it's not the book it's me" but it was nothing special for me.. and I guess since it has so many good reviews I was just struggling to see why.
I will start with the good - which is the writing, defo engaging and the style overall works for me.. when love declarations came they were thought out and well written too..
But the problem for me here was that there was nothing glaringly bad, nor amazingly good here.. i.e. very average:
* some funny moments initially and a bit of anger between them, but as she joins his vet clinic - he is straight away "she is awesome" * the way the time skips as to when they are building relationships doesn't make sense as it felt almost - they meet at the "non interview", fight, he hires her after a week, he thinks she is awesome, takes her to family dinner "as an assistant", time-skips, they go for a meal, have phone sex, go away from work...he already loves her. And she him technically. But like where was the build up, we didn't get to experience those moments when they fell in love! *this is slow burn, so no full smex till 86%.. and even then it's kinda meh. * her boyfriend sub-plot.. SPOILER... She moved to this little town for her boyfriend, left everything she knew buut he doesn't ome to town straight away- so she keeps waiting for him whilst working for H for like months. In the end when she brakes up with him before being with H (so no cheating apart from one kiss) (at ~80%) as he was still not present after 3 months and never moved to little town..after the break up, we find out he is gay.. I mean I don't know..after 3 years she had no idea that might be the case? Came out of nowhere.. it felt like it was there to justify why she fell in love with H. Oh and the after break up when she is meant to come and meet the ex, and discuss the break-up we are not even told it, as it skips to epilogue which is when we (as in readers) are told that her ex boyfriend was gay). * family members.. now I love when supporting characters are good and love strong family support etc, but here it was just a filler. Like they served no purpose.. nor Hs family, nor her sister. * the plot and book name has no correlations either.. yes, they are vets but.. again nothing much about animal instinct. *oh and almost forgot.. since she was his assistant he made her book loads of lunches with "one night stands" for him, but apparently at 80% we found out he actually haven't slept with any of them after meeting her.. which is great...but why make her book these dinnersall the time, as then he said it and it.. it just didn't make sense cause why would you go to dinners all the time over months if you knew you couldn't get it up for anyone other than h (his words not mine)😌
Also, I have read author's other work and really enjoyed it, it's just this book clearly not working for me :)

A fun, slow burn romance with witty banter, some steamy scenes, drama in the vet practice and engaging side characters that have starred in previous books. Can be read as a stand alone, but it helps to know a bit about the background of all the characters, so I would suggest reading from the beginning of the series if possible. All are in KU.
As usual, this author gave me the delicious bantering with her characters that make them come to life. I find myself laughing and consuming her words like the air I need to breathe.
I wondered again if this book was going to be a duet because of how fast it ended. It was at the over 90% mark and still had so much story left to tell. I felt the conclusion with Mark was lacking and I wanted more closure. Other than that, this was a great book. Looking forward to seeing who is next. Regardless of whether it is Corey or Troy, I'm sure it will be good.
The first of Emilia Finn’s books that I can say disappointed me. The plot just went from zero to one hundred. Spoiler***** Tabby is in a committed relationship of 3 years, that’s a long time and as soon as she gets the job, she starts falling for her boss. Late night FaceTimes, talks etc. in one single day she breaks of that relationship THROUGH TEXT, just to go be w Beckett. Overall, it felt so thrown together. I feel like the book could have been extended with her legitimately leaving her relationship before jumping in bed with another man. It took a lot to finish this book! Extremely disappointing.
Book three for the Rosa brothers and I loved it! Muscles, tattoos and he is a veterinarian…. Mmmm. 😋 Normally love triangles get a little harder for me to read due to sometimes having cheating. However, Emilia was able to write this one nicely, and thankfully NO cheating.
Beckett, the well known player, falls for his secretary. Cliche, maybe, but the fun part comes when he falls in love with her without “dating” her! Tabitha, while she may have feelings for her boss, hides them and is completely oblivious to Beckett’s feelings. Her ex wasn’t really in the picture, even while they were together and the constant time of being around each other, feelings began to grow.
It was interesting watching them with other people and then finally find each other, due to a mishap in hotels bookings! Due to the loyalty that Tabitha showed to her ex, Mark throughout the book, the spicy factor is a slow burn. 🔥 However slow it may be, the chemistry and feelings are definitely there throughout. Oh but that 📞 scene….. that was 🥵!!!
After reading the prior Rosa family books, it was so nice to see Beckett put in his place, as well as finding a long term partner. Both in life and in his practice. I’m excited to see what’s in store next for Corey Rosa….. could it potentially be who it’s hinted at in this book?? Maybe??
Overall, this book is definitely recommended. Doesn’t have to be read in order of series, but would definitely be helpful!
Tabitha moves to town ahead of her boyfriend of 3 years. Mark is supposed to be following shortly. She is to get their apartment ready while he ties up lose ends before he arrives. He has excuses week after week why he doesn't arrive. Tabby is a vet who left a job she loved to move with Mark. She now needs a job. She applied for a receptionist job but initially didn't get the job. After a week the vet, Beckett called her and begged her to come work for him immediately. She did and got the office in tip top shape right away.
Beckett is gorgeous and dates many girls. He is a big flirt and makes Tabby make dates for him. Then they drive 5 hours to a convention and auction. She didn't know that she had to go to this and makes him a reservation at a bed and breakfast to be mean. Then they end up having to stay there in what they've deemed the "murder house". The people are strange and scary. The husband takes his truck apart so they can't even get to the meetings. Beckett tells Tabby that she needs to break up with Mark as he doesn't deserve her or appreciate her. Then he professes his love for her which she find preposterous. Can he convince Tabby to take him seriously? Fun time in the Murder house.
“…just to clarify, by dinner…” She looks around at the trees surrounding us. “You mean romantic and sweet, special for a brand-new couple, but chaperoned by a murder family, right?”
Animal Instincts may be my favorite Gilded Rose book so far! When Tabitha moves to town ahead of her boyfriend, she goes to interview at the local vet office, hoping to get a foot in the door as an assistant but work her way up to vet. She doesn’t count on the local vet, Beckett, being a serial dater and not hiring her but instead giving the job to a less qualified bimbo. Realizing he made a mistake after a week with a crappy assistant, Beckett calls Tabby and gives her the job, but their relationship starts off rocky. With a story that includes an accidental late night drunken phone call, a family that lives in a murder house, a boyfriend who seems reluctant to move, and a pregnant horse about to give birth, you really can’t ask for more. Full of humor, passion, and emotion, Animal Instincts is a must read.
I have loved all of Emilia’s other series but I feel like she dropped the ball (or didn’t even try) with this clan. Each book is worse than the previous.
This story didn’t even make any sense. It had no plot, no story to tell. Plus, the FMC knows how the MMC likes his steak and suddenly she’s the love of his life. I don’t get it. There was no effort to this book like there usually is with her other series. Nothing captivating or interesting.
The writing also tanked. Super contradictory or redundant at times: - “I find no pleasure now in the random hookup. The free and easy. The fast and pleasurable.” (No pleasure but fast and pleasurable??) - “Grabbing the ancient picnic basket, he opens the top flap to find plates and silverware. Not plastic or paper, but the real deal. He sets one plate down in front of me with a wink, then the second in front of himself. Placing a knife and a fork—only one of each—on my plate, he does the same for himself” (what additional insight were we supposed to get from this??) - “I fumble and search for a pillow. A blanket. Hell, I’d take a fucking chicken from the yard and press her to my face if I could reach.” (Huh??)
Don’t even get me started on the cop out that was Mark’s “twist.”
I loved McHotty Beck all the way through the book, and Tabby won me over by the end, but she did get on my nerves at times. Overall, there was a ton of witty banter, sizzling chemistry, some laugh out loud moments, and a plot twist for good measure. I love Jen and Corey, and Troy. There will be more great stories coming! It was great to see Abby, Spence, Mitch, Nadia, Nix, Idalia, and Max again too! I’m always ecstatic to curl up with a new Emilia Finn book, because I know it’ll be emotional, hilarious, sexy, and interesting. Always a must read!
Beckett Rosa’s life is good. He has a job and business that he loves, a bevy of beautiful women at the ready and an amazing family. All of that changes when Tabitha Lawrence comes to town. Tabby has aspirations of doing the job she loves and living her life in a new town with her boyfriend. What she doesn’t expect is for Beckett to take those plans and turn them upside down. Will Beckett and Tabby be able to quell their initial dislike for each other and work together? Can they survive their families, responsibilities and outside adversities? Read about the next hunky Rosa brother and his sharp tongued assistant now to find out.
I think I literally HEARD the click the first time these 2 laid eyes on each other. Beckett & Tabitha’s relationship was solidified from the very beginning. I’m not even talking about a romantic relationship. Their friendship & professional relationship was absolutely perfect. The way they just fed off each other & read each other so well was so endearing. I just fell in love with them from the start. And Beckett is such an unexpected sap 😂. Oh...and when they finally come together...wow!!!!
I kinda feel bad when I get to the end of a new release on the week it is released and want the next book!
Beckett Rosa the overworked town vet is at wits end when his assistant retires. So he puts an add in the paper. 100 not the right material girls show up to interview to get a chance with the hot vet. The 1 capable one is the only one that isn't interviewed properly. But it doesn't take long with one of the 100 for him to call her. The right one. The only one for him.
“We’re gonna make sure we’re on time for dinner,” he snickers. “If we cooperate, they might let us live.”
Beckett, Beckett, Beckett… you gangsta of love & ladies… Tabitha is his kryptonite. She’s tough, loyal to a fault, but isn’t going to any sh** from him, family or clients. It takes a trip to the “murder house” for life lessons to be had. Shhhh don’t mention “The Shining”, “It”, or corn… Emilia Finn your brain is the 8th Wonder of the World!!! Another amazing story!!! These Rosa men have got it going on… hubba hubba :)
The glimpses of Beckett in the other books showed a sexy and loud ladies man, and the instant eruption between Tabby and Beckett in this book only fueled the nonstop thrill. The back and forth grit and determination between them was emotional and endearing. Loved the road trip destination that made me laugh out loud. So many feels. Another page turner from this amazing author!
I took a break from reading for awhile and had forgotten how funny, how poignant, how wonderful Emilia Finn’s books are! So glad I’m back and reading Ms Finn’s books as quickly as I can! They make me laugh and cry and ache and get angry and then relieved and experience all the feels. Emilia Finn is one of the authors I can count on one hand that I do not hesitate to read. Her series are amazing!
A quick intake of breath that shoves tears down my face. That's how this book, and all of Emilia Finn's books, end for me. She weaves such an amazing story about this wonderful town. Go back to the beginning, learn all about the amazing people here. This story is a quick glimpse into a love filled forever between Beckett and Tabitha.
That was soooo much better than expected. The only thing I thought about was H been a fuck boy like the Hart twins (gosh how i hated those 2 books), i hate readying about the main characters been with anyone else other than the h is just a turn off on the story! But this... Emilia really had me going there for a minute. Becket really grew as a character.
Beckett is hilarious, but how he can make his business work talking like he does one will never know. The banter between him and Tabitha is fantastic, they definitely keep the entertainment going. The subtly used to show the growth in their relationship and feelings were well done. The murder house is great. But I hope it doesn’t color people’s opinion about bed and breakfasts.
Emilia Finn is my favorite author. I love all the connections in all of her books. I love the way Emilia wrote the Beckett and Tabby characters. So funny. Hard loving. Both are so cut to the point. I still do have a couple unanswered questions but I'll head over to the Rollin On Crew Facebook group to ask them 🤪🤣.
This is one of the best slow burns I’ve read in a while. The back-and-forth between Tabitha Lawerence and Beckett Rosa is funny, full of sexual tension, and keeps you on your toes. There are surprises that I wasn’t expecting, but enjoyed every minute. Emilia Finn has written another stellar book that had me laugh-crying all the way through.
Wow, who knew that the infamous playboy Beckett would fall so hard and so fast. He takes his time telling Tabby his feelings because she is already in a committed relationship, but when he opens up, he jumps right in and completely steadfast. He knows what he wants, who he needs and both of those things are Tabby.
Swoon for the Rosa Family. This is book 3 of the currently slated 6 book series. Unfortunately for me, so far only 4 books have been released. Thus I go into reading the next chapter of this crazy family's adventures unfortunately knowing that I'll have to put them on pause before deciding who's my favorite; Bishop's or Rosa's!
Well written, heartfelt and feelings abound. I enjoyed this book but of the 20+ Emilia Finn books I've recently read, it was on the lower end of my favorites list. There isn't anywhere near as much interaction with the rest of the Rosa cast and no interaction with the extended characters with the experience of one dinner. I missed the community in this one.
3.5 ⭐️. Where are all the supporting characters? One of the things I love about these series are the interactions between the characters. They were absent for this book. The Rosa’s have been all up in each other’s business but just in the background here. I liked Tabby except her fit throwing in the epilogue took some of that away. It just made her look immature and selfish.
Emilia Finn does it again! She is always exceptionally Five stars on Kindle! This one was extra funny! I laughed so much reading this one! The best part was the part about grabbing a chicken out of the yard to stuff in her mouth to drown out the sounds she was making! Priceless!
I loved this book I seriously couldn't put the book down. Beckett has turned into my newest book boyfriend. He is so sweet and loyal. I loved Tabby. She is so strong and perfect for Beckett. Great book! I can't wait for the next book!
I try not to read her books in one sitting. I try to drag the book out but I just can't stop reading. Awesome as always. I can't wait for the next one to come out.
I chose a 5 star rating because it had me non stop laughing!!! I would so recommend this book to anyone would love a good laugh and just the pure honesty. This two were for sure something else. I loved it and can’t wait for the next book.
Emilia never disappoints. Always a great story the just sucks you in, you hate to put the book down until the story is done, and then you are left waiting for her next book. Loving this series too.
