Beautiful as Taschen reproductions are, with as good a historical background on Braun/Hogenberg as one is likely to find.

This book is a unique and interesting way to view the European world in the mid-late 1500s. Many of the illustrations are quite lovely while still being functional, and the original descriptions are a window into the past.
Unfortunately, this book has a few too many editorial mistakes and the harsh split down the middle of the book obscures the center of many illustrations.
