Ever since kindergarten, I’ve hated Chance. Everything about him rubbed me the wrong way and still does.

In high school, he was always trying to one-up me either in class or out on the ice. Much to his disappointment, I was always the winner.

The competition between us was fierce, and even though we’d been out of school for over a decade, Chance Reed was still always trying

This was like reading a Wattpad story a 15yr old wrote…. The story was rushed and was all over the place… it was so juvenile and lacked any writing creativity . To me nothing was really resolved, not with Maddox and he crap parents or him being an adult and giving his brother the boot… Not because of what his brother tells Chance should it have changed how much of an inconvenience he is to Maddox…
Maddox should have had a good talking to the trash that was his “sperm donor” and the whore who bir

A great MM story that is part of the Polar Bear Alaska series. Loved Chance and Maddox. They had a enemies to lovers romance which is one of my favorite tropes and this was a well-done ride into their world. The chemistry, attraction and their feelings towards each other good or bad radiated off the pages. You will be pulled into their world and want to get angry when they do and will fall in love when they do. Love books like this. Love to be pulled into their lives and watch them get their HEA ...more

Another fantastic story!! This was all about Maddox and Chance....and oh boy to I mean all about them. My heart broke for Maddox after what Chance did to him, I really wanted to wring his neck! But a chance encounter on a cold, snowy day was about to change both of their lives. This book was angry but soon turned sweet and steamy.

Chance Encounter is part of the Polar Bear, Alaska series. The story is a MM, enemies-to-lovers romance. This story is very steamy, the banter is beyond amazing, and the characters are sexy alpha males!

Chance and Maddox are two alpha males who both live in Polar Bear, Alaska. They are the definition of enemies, they can’t stand each other, and each thinks the other is the worst. They live in the same town but have managed to steer clear of each other since high school ended. Until Maddox’s snow

If you love enemies to lovers romance look no further than Chance Encounter ( Polar Bear Alaska).
This is a beautifully written MM love story that really shows you how to be proud of who you are, love yourself and your partner because love is love. Chance and Maddox haven’t always got on, in fact I would go as far as saying they hated each other but an incident brings them together when they both need validation in their life. Hating each other leads to fighting and plenty of banter which is all

Sally the bear, some snow and a swollen ankle!

I don’t read a lot of MM romance but I really enjoyed this one. I love a good enemies to lovers and Chance and Maddox excelled at that!! I love that they had a history and both struggled with the same thing on different levels.

This is an enemies-to-lovers romance set in rural Alaska, with two protagonists who have history left over from high school. I’d like to say it’s complicated, but actually, their past seems fairly straightforward, and unbalanced in that it’s not a case of “they both made mistakes” but rather one of them was jealous of the other’s success, confused about his own feelings, and made a callous decision that ended up having disastrous consequences for the other. It’s not exactly a sympatheti

Short and cute! Chance and Maddox were hockey teammates while in high school but they were also enemies. Chance was always angry at Maddox because he was always first in class, best in hockey, he always won and Chance resented that. When they won state championship they had a very short happy moment and Maddox gave in to his attraction for Chance. It ended disastrously and made Maddox’s life a disaster.

Fast forward ten years, Maddox is in the wild and facing a huge bear. When he’s about to say

If you hide, they can't see you, but you can't see them either. Chance and Maddox were teammates in high school. Maddox always thought Chance saw him as a rival and hated him. Maddox, misunderstood a look and mistakenly took action. Chance rejected negatively, fellow students recorded the incident. The town and his parents weren't kind. Maddox spent the years living in isolation, feeling ostracized by the town. Maddox finds himself in a bit of trouble and Chance rescues him. They begin a new rel ...more

Chance Encounter is a great story on perspective. Chance and Maddox have known each other since they were in grade school. There has always been some tension between them, that Maddox was not sure why. As a junior in high school, Maddox knew where is feeling lied, and when he was outed by Chance, to him his whole world crashed around him. Years later while out in the snow, Chance comes upon Maddox and helps him, but it is not all roses and rainbows, as hate and pain from the past lingers.

Wahoo, this is an absolutely incredible enemies to lovers story!!! I love it sooooo much! I finished it and immediately wanted to read it again. Chance and Maddox are everything! High school enemies who both truly hate each other. But when at a party and celebrating their hockey victory, signals gets mixed, a line is crossed bringing the hatred to an all time high. Fast forward years later, and back in each other’s lives in an unexpected way, sometimes you realize, your enemy might not be your e ...more

Maddox and Chance have been enemies since an incident in high school and years later they are still enemies, until one event starts to change things between them and they both realize that maybe the other isn’t so bad.

I loved the back and forth between Maddox and Chance, they despised each other, but there was something between them. You can feel the chemistry that is between them. They are the kind of couple that walks that fine line between love and hate and it just sucks you into their story

4 Star review Chance Encounter (Polar Bear Alaska) by Harlow Layne
From start to finish I was invested in the story Harlow Layne wove about Polar Bear, Alaska (I just adore the name). This is an enemies to lovers story about Maddox and Chance.
They were enemies in high school but now years later fate has plans for these two. They have avoided one another for years until circumstances bring them face to face again. There's a fine line between love and hate and it was entertaining to watch Maddox an

Maddox and Chance became enemies after an intimate choice ended up costing one man so much pain. The betrayal was more than any one person should endure. Maddox lost his family, friends, and so much more in that moment. Now imagine carrying that into adulthood and thinking you aren't worthy.
The one person who brought you heartache as a teenager ends up being the one to save your life. Talk about facing all of your fears head on. Now both men are forced to deal with the past, the present and hope

This is a great enemies to lovers story and it also happens to be MM romance as well. Two of my favorite tropes. I do wish we got some more of their story as this is just such a short read. I do like the back and forth that these two characters give each other. They each have a very misunderstood past but when they come together their pasts don't seem to matter. It is always nice to have someone to share your stories with and have them understand everything about you. I think that's what Chance ...more
🧔🏻‍♂️🏒Hello everyone! Hoping all is well! Going to keep this short since I DNFed at 10% despite how short this book was. There was no warning for the extreme homophobia early within the book and did not care for how one MC used slurs against the other. Not in the mood for such themes~words. It’s almost Christmas and like Sweet Brown said best: “Ain’t nobody got time for that”! it is also apart of a series that is MF form what i saw. Not surprised 🤦🏾‍♀️. Maddox and Chance were always in competition with each other, Maddox was always the winner, which made any friendship impossible. Hatred really boiled over when Maddox, at sixteen, kissed Chance and was called out for being gay, which blew up his life. He went from hero to loser overnight, even his parents told him their responsibilities with him were done when he graduated.

Years later, Chance saves Maddox from a grizzly bear and they are forced to spend time together in close quarters. Can they

Quick & Enjoyable read

Chance Encounter is an enjoyable quick read featuring an enemies to lovers/forced proximity M/M romance. I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read but the snark and banter between Maddox and Chance was top notch. A misunderstanding by two confused teens leads to years of heated feelings of dislike between the two. When they are forced together because of an injury and a bear things become heated but the anger between them remains. Can they move forward to have a meani

I LOVE Harlow Layne and she is the only Author I will read MM by. Chance Encounter is a MM, Enemies to Lovers Romance that is apart of the Polar Bear, Alaska series that can be read as a Standalone.

Ok first off I have never left Harlow Layne a review that was less than 4 stars but Chance Encounter I did not get the vibes that I normally do with her books. This is steamy, amusing and sweet. Maddox and Chance have been enemies since they met, at first because Chance was jealous of Mad, then Mad being angry at Chance. When they suddenly find themselves together for a night,.they make the most of the tension between them. After that, Chance does everything he can to get Maddox to give in to the temptation they both feel. Chance is a determined and flirty guy, while Maddox is a shy, quiet guy. They're very entertaining together and I enjoyed their sto ...more

Chance Encounter by Harlow Layne

If you love MM/decade long enemies turn into lovers romance, look no further... Harlow has written just that and you're in for a ride. Chance and Maddox have some major chemistry that is off the charts. Oh and the banter between these two is just amazing... it had me laughing.

I don't like giving too much info about the book so you just need to read it to find out what happens... Do they get over their problems or what? Will their chemistry make them burn brighte

This enemies to lovers story is full of angst and intensity!! An incident brings them together where one saves the other in more than one way as they both deal with social issues, past regrets and forgiveness. They have hated eachother for so long that all they do is fight and banter back and forth in spite of being attracted to eachother! The build up is great! You know the goods is coming and you can't wait and it doesn’t disappoint at all!!! Kudos to an unforgettable side character that I for ...more

I really enjoyed this trip to Polar Bear, Alaska. Chance and Maddox had been enemies for over a decade since an incident at high school, each blaming the other for the bad things in their lives. After a dangerous situation with a bear, Chance rescued Maddox and a love/hate romance began. The story was hot, sexy and funny, the banter hilarious between them (although at times I got lost which one of them was speaking) Chance helped Maddox through his huge insecurities to what was a lovely HEA

This was really a great story and i absolutely loved Chance and Maddox. So many emotions, pain, loss, bullying, not feeling like you belong, anger, and new love.
Both have known eachother since Elementary School, and one way or another both never got along.. over the years and moving up to high school feeling have not changes. Secret feeling for the other, but not knowing if the other feels the same. Years after high school both still hate eachother, but end up having to help eachother. Both lear

Competition or Trying to Impress? . . .

Chance and Maddox have been in competition probably since kindergarten. Each tries to one-up the other and prove themselves the “winner”. It escalated to “enemies” status after an incident at high school, however. It isn’t until another incident, this time with a bear, where Chance rescued Maddox, that things started to change between them.

This story had some anger-inducing parts and the characters went back and forth from funny to anger. Would they finally

I did not know that this is a M/M story when I downloaded this book. I don't like this trope but I won't take it against the author just because. I just make the switched in my imagination. It was a nice story, and the writing is good too. There is some moral lessons in the story, i.e., asking for forgiveness when you realized you were wrong and then forgiving them, helping others who are in need no matter if that person is the enemy, being true to yourself and so on.

Good discovery
I loved the intro that puts the character at the end of high school, in a context between sports, reputation, and sexual orientation. The character of Maddox is touching from the prologue. The story then oscillates as the enemies who seek each other, tease each other years later.
It's a good, simple romance with two men who are pretty rough, but also tender, having a hot relationship despite their grievances from the past.

Oh how i loved Chance and Madox story.

Chance and Maddox were two alpha males who both live in Polar Bear, Alaska. They are the definition of enemies, they can’t stand each other, and each thinks the other is the worst. They live in the same town but have managed to steer clear of each other since high school ended. Until Maddox’s snow mobile breaks down and none other than Chance rescues him from Sally.

This story had me not wanting to put it down. The chemistry these 2 had was electric.
