Charming, Texas
Book 1: Winning Mr. Charming Book 2: The Charming Checklist
The Charming Checklist by Heatherly Bell is the second in her Charming, Texas, series.
Max Del Toro is ready for that next step in life, a wife to share the life he’s worked hard to build. So he goes about it practically, by researching and signing up for dating sites, making sure his requirements are clearly spelled out and his photo updated.
Ava Long is a good friend, and just about the opposite of most of the things on his list. A list she looks over and recognizes is not her. But as a good friend, she offers to draw on her connections to help find the partner of Max’s dreams.
Heatherly Bell does a lovely job with Max and Ava, and I found myself utterly charmed by their friendship and their growing trust and willingness to be vulnerable and honest with each other. It is a delight to see them get to know each other and recognize that sometimes a checklist isn’t a roadmap, and there’s room in one’s life for love and friends. A terrific read and addition to the series.
An opposites attract story with a military hero; be still my beating heart. These two characters could not be more different from one another. She's colour and light, he's regimented discipline. However, at their hearts, both want the same thing: they really just want to be loved for who they are. Ava’s zest for life was a thing of beauty and inspiring to watch. It broke my heart a little to learn what was driving Max, but I think it's something that a lot of people can relate to. Once this pair finally stopped getting in their own way, they were absolute perfection together. Now, I'm curious to find out who the next leading couple of Charming, Texas will be. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
The Charming Checklist by Heatherly Bell We are back in Charming for yet another great read from Heatherly, you cannot go wrong with one of her books. The Charming Checklist is a sweet, dreamy story, that follows Ava and Max, who are fantastic characters that have you glued to the pages all the way to the end. I'm always entertained and encouraged by Heatherly's writing with her amazing real characters that face real-life kinds of struggles. There's depth to her books and I always feel hope when I finish the story. I loved this book and you will too! Strongly recommend this book. Thank you, Heatherly, for this great story and I look forward to reading more from this wonderful town of Charming:)

Max and Ava have been sending up sparks all over the place, even if they both denied it. Because they are such opposites, they do not believe that a relationship between them could ever work. But circumstances find them thrown together, and they begin to discover more about one another. They fall in love quickly, but they begin to hit snags and have to decide whether to cut their losses or fight for love. Ava is adorable and fun to read. The tagline sums Max up perfectly: he definitely, maybe, knows what he wants. The space between definitely and maybe is hilarious. I was greatly entertained, and I am looking forward to Adam's book.
The quirky and intriguing Ava puts Max, the disciplined and structured man on edge. There's something magnetic about her that he can't get her out of his head. Their attraction builds as their plan to help Max find a wife becomes a difficult task. His list of preferred characteristics are everything Ava is not, which becomes a problem for them both. Her whimsy pinned against his stoic persona is a fun and entertaining journey. The other characters add a bit more dimension with their own unique and unsolicited opinions that make this book a special peak into their lives.

This is book two in the Charming, Texas series and the main character ex-Navy SEAL and businessman, Max Del Toro, finally deciding that the time is right for him to find a wife and get married, have children and so on He has a list of what he wants from hi perfect woman and it is quite a list. He has set up loads of dates for himself, after signing up for every online dating app he could find, in particular the ones that go really in depth to supposedly match the right people together. He is approaching it like one of his SEAL missions according to his best friend Cole Kinsella, his partner in the Salty Dog Bar and Grill they own together, after Cole’s father ran the business into the ground and the friends saved it. When the first few dates are nothing like he expected, one even having a grandmother turning up, to veto the date for her granddaughter, to save her wasting her precious time, he decides another woman for help. Ava Long is the daughter of a family of doctors, her parents both being high flying doctors, as well as her two brothers, and none of them can understand her wish to do something else with her life. She is twenty nine and hopes to open her own coffee shop, having grown to love coffee and making her own blends from the coffee beans her Nanny Lucia introduced her to. Currently she is the president of the local Chamber of Commerce, a one woman stop for all your business needs and questions. Max likes Ava, but her multi-colour dress sense and quirky nature, plus the fact she is always happy and very talkative, make him decide she cannot be a woman he could marry and he doubts she is qualified enough, for all the other requests on his list for a wife! Ava has her parents and brothers all coming to Charming in a week for her birthday, their annual evening together to try and demean her current lack of ambition and purpose in life and to try and persuade her it isn’t too late to become a doctor or a lawyer. None of her family seem to value her for who she is. When Max asks for help to find the right woman to be his wife, she decides to ask him to accompany her to her birthday celebration, an evening she dreads every year and never turns up to on time, and for him to pretend they have been going out for some three months already. In return, she will set him up with some of her Princeton friends and colleagues, who match his demanding list, all while realising that she actually likes him more than she did Cole. Cole is now happily besotted with a part time helper at his bar and grill and full time teacher Valerie and never even noticed Ava once Valerie was on the scene! Everyone tries to tell Max that love will just happen and find him when he least expects it. His regimented approach to love is never going to find him the right woman! Ava calls him out for being grumpy and even for not being spontaneous, so he kisses her! Both enjoyed the experience, but this has left Max not knowing what to do about his feelings, what he thought he wanted with his list and his regimented search. He finds out a lot more about her past and her upbringing as they spend more time together and he finds out she actually far surpasses some of the items on his list! It seems that these two opposites are meant for each other! But true love never runs smoothly and ha to have a few bumps along the road to true bliss, as they find out. Max is still a man who acts through action rather than words and when challenged to express himself, falls at the first hurdle and believes it is easier to quit than do something he has never had to do. Adam, another Navy SEAL and one who actually saved Max’s life once, is brought into the bar and grill as a new chef and ends up staying with Max, which stifles the love machine a little, but not as much as Max’s inability to communicate what he loves about Ava. An amusing set of scenes follow as Max tries to draw on self-help books to get him over this hurdle, as he realises his error only hours after his actions and wants Ava back. He even ropes in Adam and Cole to help! He needs to figure out the words of love and be able to convince Ava of his sincerity and true feelings and hope she can finally forget the silly list he made at the beginning, which ensured Ava was never going to be a match for him. Expectations of who would be your ideal partner in life are examined in this story, with friends becoming lovers and so much more, as the story progresses to a HEA ending. A great read and I hope to get a chance to read the first book in the series and any more that follow soon. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This book focuses on Ava and Max. At first, because they are so very different in many ways, it seems impossible that they will ever be able to get along with each other. However, they eventually discover that they have more in common than they realized.
Max’s grandparents were immigrants who constantly travelled as they did manual labor on different farms. Max’s father never really had a home. Therefore, when he grew up and had children, he settled in Watsonville, California so his family would stay in one place and live in a proper home. However, Max still grew up in a poor family who picked strawberries in the fields in Watsonville.
In spite of those circumstances, Max, at thirty-four years old, has become a very successful businessman. He owes his success to his many positive qualities. He is an overachiever and a hard worker, who is also goal-oriented and extremely logical. Max believes that, with all of these qualities and a lot of planning, he will be able to reach all of his goals and dreams quickly.
Therefore, Max decides to pick his future wife in the same way that he became successful. He decides to join every online dating service and schedules short “dates” every day so he can interview them. He also makes up a list of characteristics that he wants in his future wife. Max’s theory is that whenever his heart is “in disagreement” with his brain, “his brain wins every time.”
Unfortunately, Max is very attracted to his good friend, Ava. Ava has always been attracted to him, but she has none of the characteristics that Max values for a wife. She is only twenty-eight years old and she always follows her heart. She is perky with over-the-top enthusiasm. She appears flighty, doesn’t seem to take anything seriously, and has no ambition other than working at Max’s bar. She also talks too much which drives him crazy.
When Max pretends to be Ava’s boyfriend for a birthday dinner with her parents and brothers, he sees a different side to Ava. Thus begins the growing love story between Max and Ava.
Heatherly Bell does a FANTASTIC job of skillfully revealing the metamorphosis of Max’s feelings as he slowly falls in love with Ave. Because Ms. Bell reveals their love so gradually, their change in emotions is very realistic, and easy, for readers to believe.
I was so riveted to this story that I could not put it down until I finished the book.

OMG! Max and Ava’s story is very entertaining and will leave you grinning or laughing out loud. Max is ex military, a successful businessman and ready to wed. Too bad he knows nothing about women, thinks finding a wife takes logic and strategizing rather than any emotion, and being grumpy is his normal attitude. Oh yeah, while he is looking for his perfect candidate using multiple dating sites, he is busy denying his attraction to Ava to himself. Ava is a ball of sunshine in female form. The community is important to her and she is thrilled to help out whenever and wherever she can. She has dreams of being a business owner herself and not the doctor or lawyer her parents desperately want her to be. Her move to Charming, Texas was done to escape the nagging and disappointment of her parents. They visit on her birthday, not to celebrate, but to remind her that she is wasting her education and her life. Max agrees to act as her date on the night of her parents visit in exchange for her helping him find a perfect for him wife. Their agreement ends up opening both of their eyes to each other, the true selves they try to keep hidden or that they never noticed before. Their path to true love has a couple of bumps and few surprises, but they do eventually find that they are indeed a perfect match.

Another fun book from Heatherly Bell set in the fictional town of Charming, Texas.
Max Del Toro ex SEAL, disciplined, successful, and has decided he needs a bride. Having tried the dating websites with no success he figures his best friend Ava, can help him find the perfect mate.
Ava Long has had feelings for Max forever. When he asks her to help him find the perfect wife, she really tries with no success.
Max continually finds fault with the women he meets....except Ava. But Ava doesn't fit ANY of the 'requirements' he has written down.
Will these friends be able to find their own happily every after? Will Max's requirements automatically exclude Ava since she is NOT what he thinks he must have in a spouse.
A fun book. The Charming Checklist is a combination of opposites attract and friends to lovers.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout. The review is my own.
Max has decided he wants not just a girlfriend, but a wife ad he has his check list of all things he is looking for only he foray into dating doesn't go so well especially as he is treating it like one of his old military missions and not about finding love. Ava one of Max's friends is awesome with how she cares about everyone and everything and bucks the path her parents want her to go down and totally get why she decides Max has to be her pretend boyfriend when her family come to town. You know having Ava provide dating advice is a bad idea from the beginning as she is attracted to him and he has no clue on this at the start, thus causing many a laugh as well as awkward moments, new perspective on what they want or think they need as well as finally seeing what's right in front of them making this a great love story.

This was a beautiful, romantic story that was cute, heartfelt, and funny at times. Max, at the age of thirty-four decided he was ready to settle down and get married. He wanted a wife and wrote a list of his ideas for a perfect wife and then he signed himself up on all of the dating sites. The dates were interesting to say the least. Ava had a bit of a crush on Max but agreed to help him find his perfect wife if he helped her too by being her fake date for her family's birthday dinner for her. I liked both Ava and Max and how neither one seemed to realize how the other one felt when everyone else could see their chemistry and attraction. The story was so much fun to read and I enjoyed seeing Max struggle with his feelings toward Ava when he seemed so perfect in other ways. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Max is ex military and a business owner so structure and goals have gotten him through his life. To find a wife, he plans on doing the same... with a list of what he is looking for. Asking Ava for help, she agrees if he will be her fake boyfriend while her parents are in town for her birthday. They are disappointed in her career and her status so she moved far away from them. As they spend time together, they start to realize that Ava does not check off any of the boxes on his list, but his heart wants her anyway. The characters are heartwarming, strong and determined. The storyline has its speedbumps, drama, surprises, and friendship turned to more. Loved their chemistry and banter. The ending was a great step to the future.

Due to his past Max is a man who thrives on order and is methodical both when it came to his career as a SEAL and as a businessman however it hasn’t yielded him positive results when it comes to finding a woman to share his life with. Out of options he decides to ask his best friend Ava for help.
Ava views success and happiness much differently than her family so she is determined to forge her own path. When he recruits her to help him find the perfect woman she asks him to pretend to be her boyfriend to appease her critical parents. What could possibly go wrong?
Both Max and Ava are endearing characters who take us on a heartwarming journey as they realize that what they been looking for has been in front of you all along.
Another good book in the series. Fun characters and storyline. Max has done his homework and hopes to find his future wife very soon. Ava is the president of the Chamber of Commerce in Charming. They are physically attracted to each other but she thinks he’s too grumpy and he thinks she’s too cheerful to spend much time together. He agrees to pretend to be her boyfriend for her birthday dinner with her family. In return she promises to help him find his perfect woman. Let the fun begin! *Some bedroom scenes.

Max is a hard working focus on making something of himself to the point that he has to plan every little thing including making a list of the perfect woman he wants to marry. Ava is happy friendly and always helping anyone around town that needs her help so when Max needs help finding the perfect woman he ask Ava to help find a woman with all his requirements. The more time she spends with Max she is angry that he has a actual list and she has none of the requirements on his list especially after they share a kiss that she can not forget and the more women that Max meets he soon realizes that the kiss he shared with Ava still sticks in his mind. Great story.
Max Del Toro is a man on a mission. 34, he's decided it's time to get married and approaches the problem with the same mind set that made him a great SEAL, and business man. So, he makes a list of qualifications, goes on dating apps, and walks away disappointed each time. So, he shows his list to Chamber of Commerce head Ava Long, for her help, in exchange for helping her with her business plan for a coffee shop. What he doesn't realize, is that the one woman for him has been right in front of him the whole time. But can Max change his list to see that Ava fits everything he wants?
As they say, opposites attract and they did in this book. I loved how the attraction between Max and Ava starts with friendship but they fall in love quickly. All the characters were entertaining and realistic. The story line was fun and kept my interest and attention through the book. It’s well written and easy to read. I highly recommend this series.

Max and Ava had a lot more in common than they thought in this opposites attract romance.story. Max wanted the perfect wife and made a list of her attributes but learned that what he was looking for was something totally different. but You can’t dictate who you fall in love with. Their love story had bumps along the way but the did get their HEA. I would definitely recommend this book.

Max Del Toro has decided it is time to find his future wife and after disastrous dating site dates, he has asked Ava for help. Ava is a bubbly person who everyone likes. When he gives her his check list, she sees it is totally opposite of her. Where she is outgoing and talkative, he is quiet and grumpy. What happens when they learn there is a lot more to each other when they spend time together. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the second story in the "Charming, Texas" series. It is a stand alone read about Max and Ava. The story is a friends who are opposites attract and find more. Max and Ava are such opposites that finding love and a common ground may see unrealistic. I really love how they story develops, snags, hiccups and all. The two are really perfect together in so many ways. I love the characters! The checklist of criteria that meet his perfect women are interesting as well.
Making a checklist for the perfect mate might be a little crazy because even though the brain thinks it knows what it wants, the heart wants what the heart wants. Max and Ava are total opposites but that is just what the heart wanted. This story is funny and romantic and the characters are all so interesting and entertaining.
Max knew he was ready to settle down. He wrote a checklist for Ava that listed all the attributes he wanted on his ideal woman. This story was funny and cute. The lead female character is cheerful and fun loving. Fake it till you make it is her motto. The male lead is an educated, black and white kind of person. How could thi book not be good with a combination like that?
This is a fun story. Ava always has a smile and something nice to say to everyone she meets. Max seems to be grumpy all the time and has got his life planned out or does he. Wonderful characters and would love to read more of this town and people.

The second book in the Charming, Texas series a well written story with a very good storyline that held my interest until the end. Ex-SEAL Max Del Toro and his friend Ava Long are so different but they belong together. I enjoyed seeing them realize that. The story was well worth reading. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I enjoyed this charming story. First impressions are not always correct, esp if you don't spend the time to get to know the person better. This story had some funny moments and was entertaining from start to finish. Overall, a good romance. * I received an ARC of this story and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Charming is certainly the right word for this town! I love a good grumpy/sunshine story and I definitely receive that in the form of Max and Ava. The idea of Max having a checklist of requirements for a wife are almost as funny as Ava’s reaction to that list. I love their chemistry and I love the premise of the story. I’m hoping to come back to visit Charming, Texas very soon!!
What a fun story about the pitfalls of a love list. Many have lists of perfect partners but we all know that love doesn’t work with a list. Sweet story that shows us that some spontaneity and responsibility balance each other perfectly.
