When Philippa first debuted in Society, her black hair and sapphire eyes earned her the nickname “Lady Twilight,” as well as the attention of Everett Cavendish, the Marquess of Hartington. But when Everett’s parents objected to the match, the spurned Philippa married the Earl of Essex instead.
After unexpectedly becoming a widow, Philippa found she missed the pleasures of her marriage bed. She is re-entering Society with a new aim in to take a lover, or several. But among the many men vying for her attention, she did not expect to find Everett.
The Marquess of Hartington had given up hope of being with Philippa, but when circumstances and a bet places her back in his social circle, Everett realizes that he might have a second chance. Defying his parents and Philippa’s expectations, Everett braves her wrath in order to prove himself worthy of her trust again. Now he just has to prove it to her.
Golden Angel is a USA Today best-selling author of heart and bottom warming romance.
She is happily married, old enough to know better but still too young to care, and a big fan of happily-ever-afters, strong heroes and heroines, and sizzling chemistry.
When not in front of her computer writing, she can be found sewing her next project, hanging out with friends, or wandering the grounds of the Maryland Renaissance Festival.
This hurts to say. I had high high hopes. They were soon dashed when I realized the full scope of what I was dealing with.
This may be a Second Chance romance, but first the heroine fucks around with 5 other people to test out her wings after being a widow for 18 months. The hero previously messed up their courtship 3 years ago and she married someone else.
Now she's out of mourning and ready to play, and he wants nothing more than to win her back, but she says she's going to have lovers and he'll have to work hard to win her over. That's fine. Cool cool. Except for the fact that in this 200 page book... she has sex or is pleasured by other people until page 160. Then the quickly reconcile and are married within 20 pages.
Ummm.. fuck no. Bye bye.
I'll still read another book by this author, for sure, but this was a BAD one for me to begin with. Not for me AT ALL.
Why have I not read more of Golden Angel books? I have been missing out. I have seen this author's name bandied around the kinky erotic reader groups for a while. I have even had some communications with her. The hype around her writing is completely on point. I adored this first foray into her writing. I have moved past historicals for the most part but Ms. Angel sucks me back in with her erotic novel.

I really liked this story. I think that Phillipa and Everett had a lot of chemistry together.
I think that Phillipa has a lot of grit and steel. She had no problem telling anyone what she wanted and didn't want. She knew what she wanted, and she was going to make it happen, no matter what. She wasn't going to let anyone get in her way, up to and including Everett.
I think that Everett thought that he knew what was going on, but he really just had no real clue. I think that things really did just throw him at times. I was actually amused by that.
I think that there are times when the traditional Regency romance male and female roles were turned upside down a bit, and I found that to be really enjoyable.
OMG, every man in the world needs to read this book and then return to us. Or better yet, transport me to this place if I wasn't married already.
Pippa or Phillipa, a recently widowed woman, is out to find what pleasure is, but discreetly.
I found so much emotion in this book that I was left with whiplash, but in a good way. I was hopeful, gutted, lustful (I know, bad, but good).
In the book, there was a point when a character said, "Dear Lord, Give me Strength, " which left me giggling aloud. Trust me. You will, too, when you find out why.
Then a scene where one of the main characters said: "Bloody Hell Pippa," left my eyes bulging—looking around the room, wondering if anyone could see me wiggling in my seat.
The love/sex scenes are unparalleled to anything I have ever read. They are so vivid and descriptive yet tasteful. Like, I seriously was like, Oh My "Honey, let's head to bed" LMAO.
I didn't find it obscene, I found it delightfully written with a storyline that swooned my heart into a place that was hopeful and content in the end, and I felt peaceful happiness that made me think back on my own life, and I know I will smile for a while from this book.
Thank you to the author for writing it this way because I feel like many people will resonate with this book.
I thought that this was a very good book. The writing was well done and the story juicy and engaging. I have to say that I really liked Philippa. She was no milk toast, handwringing Miss and that greatly appealed to me. I wish I could say the same for Everett but while I did warm up to him, I freely admit that he was not my favorite hero. I blame this on me much more than on the book. I find it very hard to forgive and forget. Still, I genuinely enjoyed the chemistry between this couple and the steam that they generated. Intense emotions, tension, drama, turmoil and heat provide a solid and enticing base for this couple's relationship and story to build and unfold on. This is my forthright, volitional review.
Yeah I just love Golden Angel’s stories and this story is no exception. I loved every bit of this story and it has lots of 🔥 sort of scenes in this lovely 🥰 historical romance. I love the ending, such a nice HEA. Basically a second chance at love story in a historical context, with excellent characters.
These two were made for each other and that’s what happened in the end. But without the misunderstandings and the interference of others there would have been no story. A fine romance, with a smidgen of kinky sexy times, heartbreak and redeeming love - all in all a great read.
Everett Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington and heir to the Duke of Devonshire, was madly in love with Pippa, a rich tradesman's daughter, returned that love. Obviously, Everett's parents were horrified at the idea of having Pippa as their daughter-in-law and threatened to cut Everett off if he continued down this path. Conflicted, he got into a huge fight with Pippa and left town to avoid the pressure and in that time Pippa was married off to the Earl of Essex. He's regretted not fighting for her and has been running around being a rake instead of a dutiful son ever since.
Where this deviates from the normal historical romances: Instead of the FMC remaining a virtuous widow,
I really loved how she gave Everett the run around and make him work for it, even when he remained true to form and continued playing some idiotic games (but that's what makes it so interesting).
There's a lot of steam in this book, as there generally is with Golden Angel. If you're looking for a closed door romance with chaste kisses and lukewarm handholding, this book is not for you.
*this e-arc was sent to me by the publisher to give an honest review in return*
This book was not it for me. I rarely give books one star and this was one of them. This book is about a widow, Philippa, who is looking to remarry and her old lover seeks for her. So when I started reading this book, I was kind of enjoying it. I was lost at first thinking that I will understand the more I get into the story but I didn't. While reading, I was confused with what was going on. All I knew was that Philippa needed to find a new husband and Everett had a crush on her. Other than that it was all sex. The writing wasn't the best in my opinion as I didn't understand why the name Olivia wasn't capitalized throughout the whole book. I started to skim through the book because I was lost with what was going on and what the exact plot was.
This book is written from Philippa and Everett povs. I do have to say that I was confused with who's pov I was at. The chapters were labeled with the character's pov and would midway in a chapter alter. The characters weren't honestly written so badly but could have been saved. There were many side characters in the book with one of them being "olivia". The romance is forbidden love and not the best romance with 4/5 level of detailed steaminess but you didn't get butterflies reading it.
I didn't care much about the ending and started skimming the book midway. I honestly thought the book would get better because I enjoy historical romance but this wasn't it. I felt that it was just filled with sex instead of having a proper story. It wasn't a read for me but also don't be discouraged to pick up this book.
I love Golden Angel and her works. I wasn't sure how I felt about Pippa's choices in the beginning, but I started really understanding her choices. Everett needed to prove his love. She wanted and needed her desires filled in the way she wanted. Many people won't like that she saw other men. But really it was the only way the plot was really going to work well. I get sick of romances where the man is a total jerk and the heroine just forgives him over and over. Being faithful even when he's not. So bravo to Golden Angel for turning the narrative on its head.
Anyone who's looking for an original historical romance where the heroine and hero really become equals this is for you. Everyone feels desire to some degree. Finding many people attractive is completely normal. But anyone whose really in a loving relationship with their partner with a good sexual communication will tell you it's different, because it is. I loved that the story showed both sides of the equation.
5 stars HEA No cliffhanger, complete standalone Semi-safe (spoilers below about cheating) They bang hard
I cannot stress how much I enjoyed this book. It really flipped the tables on conventional historical romance by having the heroine (Pippa) be widowed and actively looking for a lover. Merry widow indeed. I appreciated that she didn't let the hero off the hook after all the pain she went through.
Contains: explicit sex (mf and ffm), toxic parents, elitism by said parents, spousal death (historical, off page), sort of cheating*
*semi spoilers below*
Pippa's husband still had a mistress even while they were married. After he passed, Pippa set about to find a discreet lover because she wants physical affecting but not marriage. Everett wants her, but messes up (again), and she does have sex with others before they end up together. It makes their journey together more meaningful in my opinion. While she physically enjoys the act of sex with others, she finds lovemaking more satisfying in the end. I think it's empowering for her.

April 12, 2022 DNF 2% because I spoiled myself and found things that I’m simply not into. Ok I usually love Angel’s books but this is simply not for me. I assumed from reading the synopsis that it was gonna be between the two main characters and was looking forward to it because I love second chance romances.
I skim most of it and what I got from it is that Philippia is with some of her lovers and I believe exploring with them for pretty much the first half of the book or more. Personally I don’t care to hear about others lovers. She does end up with the man she loves but I think they only get one scene at the end? I did like how he apologized for some bet he involved her in and that she didn’t immediately take him back. Also I believe there might be some FFM which I wouldn’t have minded but it’s wasn’t between the main couple.
Basically it about Philippia exploring with lovers and ending up with the man she loves.
Wow what a book! my first novel by Golden Angel and I really enjoyed it, I finished in about 3days which is fast for me! I loved that it's a Historical but, it's erotic! ❤️ Lots of love partners going around!
Pippa had her heart sat on Everett until his mother would not let them wed due to her low status, Pippa moves on and marries seemingly a decent marriage until her husband dies leaving her a dowager 😢! After an appropriate time of morning she's ready to get back out there, but she doesn't want a husband just a lover!
Everett regrets that his family would not let him marry Pippa but he knows she is back in society will he be able to convince her to marry him this time despite his mother?
Read to find out but............ spoiler alert.......
The reason I didn't give 5 stars
It Just ends like very abruptly Not quite but almost cliffhanger like who does that without a sequel? Oh well 🤷
This book was a thrilling ride that perfectly scratched my Bridgerton itch! Phillipa's bold and adventurous spirit, coupled with the freedom she embraced as a widow, made for a captivating read. The writing was superb, and the story was gripping, with Phillipa emerging as an unforgettable character. The electric chemistry between her and Everett crackled with intense emotions, tension, and passion. Their relationship was a rollercoaster of fiery drama that had me on the edge of my seat. Moments of humor had me laughing out loud, while the vivid, tasteful love scenes left me breathless. This brilliantly crafted tale warmed my heart and filled me with a sense of hope and contentment. It’s a book that will leave you exhilarated and smiling long after you turn the last page.
First time reading a book by this author. What an outstanding treat. No murder, mystery or mayhem is what I prefer in my historical romance , only romance and sex. This story was loaded with plenty of hot, sizzling, steamy sex. The fact that the heroine, Pippa , was experiencing different love making with different people, blew me away. You rock Lady Golden, love your name and I am so looking forward to reading anything else by you. Oh by the way, Everett, my hero, what a man. Rated it: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sexual/emotional: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Romance: ❤❤❤❤❤ The variety of sex acts: 💋💋💋💋💋 Read again: 👅👅👅👅👅
I really enjoyed this latest book from Golden Angel. Phillippa is widowed and looking for a lover. Years before Everett wanted to marry her but things happened and she married someone else. Missing the pleasures of the marriage bed, she is surprised to see him again. I loved how strong of a woman she was and how she was the one who decided what she wanted to do instead of letting "society" decide. The banter between them was awesome and it kept me turning the pages. I would love to see some of the secondary characters get stories. Will Everett finally win her over?
So I liked this book. I liked that the FMC had the opportunity to explore her sexuality. I did not like that a lot of that exploration happened with other people other than the MMC, including one of his best friends. Definitely gave me a little ick. I liked the FFM which you don't see in a lot of histroms. Overall, a nice quick read

I really liked this book alot. Not at all what I expected, which would be a typical romance. I think it was more of her journey with a nicely wrapped up happy ending. I really enjoyed reading about her "adventures" and about her finding herself and figuring out what she really wanted.
“The Dukes Pursuit” is a realistic, steamy depiction of the Regency and Victorian era with no cliff hangers and a beautiful happily ever after. Golden Angel writes a story of intrigue, peppered with a few surprises, romance, drama and rejection which makes this a delightful and interesting read! Phillipa found her true love, Everett Cavendish but he rejected her because his family did not approve. Phillipa married the Earl of Essex instead. Unfortunately, he died and Phillipa was a young widow. Everett deeply regretted his choice and worked hard to remedy this decision. He was determined to earn back his true love. Not so easy when Phillipa refuses to see him or speak his name. And, the story takes off, as we watch, Everette’s desperate attempts to get her attention only to fail time and again. Finally, he gets to dance with her and the sense of passion and fire between them is delightful. There are twists, turns and suspense, as we follow the main characters through an emotional path. The characters are really well drawn in this story. Even the secondary characters are interesting on their own. The main action in the book are in the characters. Golden Angel has done an excellent job of making the people in the story almost breathe. A wonderful and captivating love story that is impossible to put down. The reader is pulled into wanting the best of these people. I recommend this book to all who love reading steamy historical novels!
This romance is steamy and well written. i love this author and just can not get enough. This is a 2nd chance romance. they liked each other when they first meant but his mom and dad didn't approve. Now after marrying another man and becoming a widower. the ? is will everything change or will he still listen to mom.
This was a a good read...but I hate when so many bitter misunderstandings and betrayals are involved. Yes..that's my problem...otherwise a great story.
Warning: I am going to include one small spoiler here because I think it’s something a lot of readers would like to know before reading.
Good characters, good story, good sex. This book strays slightly from the tried and true historical romance path. In a lot of ways, that was fun. Pippa and Everett were both well drawn characters, with full personalities, and they are people you want to spend time with. Pippa knows what she wants and she goes for it. She has some self doubts, but she isn’t consumed by them. Everett is a bit of an idiot, but in a very realistic ‘I am at the top of the society and never really learned how to consider other people fully’ kind of way. What I think might bother some people is that she rebuffs the hero’s advances (for good reason) at the beginning of the book, then proceeds to have sexual encounters with other characters, while he chases her. It’s an interesting variation on the second chance trope, but for me it did lessen the romance of the story as a whole. There are a lot of interesting side characters, and even a secondary romance that I would have loved to see more of (maybe the author will give us a short story to show what was happening off page!). Overall a very enjoyable read.
I was sent this book as a gift from a very dear friend to help me through a very trying time. I truly wasn't sure I'd be able to read the story as I've found reading quite difficult at present but I was totally gripped from the first page. In many ways it is a typical Golden Angel Victorian story but when you read further you realise it is much more than that. You are drawn in by the familiar characters that cross over, but they are incidental and have no true part in the plot. Phillipa and Everett's story isn't your typical Victorian lord and lady story, it's one of unrequited love, betrayal and the never ending path to redemption, with many a twist along the way. Golden Angel in her usual inimitable way drags you into the book and you find yourself both wanting it to end and then again to never end. It is without a doubt one of Golden's best works to date
Actual rating: 3.5 stars I think this was the first time that I came across a widow heroine who actively explored her sexuality with multiple lovers. Usually, the widow may want to but stops short because she feels guilty or already has strong feelings for someone in particular. Not Pippa. She was intent on having lovers and her liaisons were graphic and erotic. Meanwhile, Everett had a tough job working his way back in her heart. An unusual dynamic that worked for me.
I enjoyed reading this different foray into Ms Angel's imagination. Sweet and adventurous Philippa is looking for a lover. Everett is learning just what it will take to win her love. This story is so different, interesting and intriguing. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and I very highly recommend it. This book is very well written and described, so easy to read.
