To say this book is complex and deep is an understatement. But I do not want to cheapen or scare people away. Maria and Jordan have a face they show the world and are successful in their professional lives. However, on the inside, the characters have layers, are flawed, insecure, and are quite guarded. The writing will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, but worth it. I will recommend this book to just about anyone.

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy; this is my vo

I don't think I've ever read a character like Maria, or even Jordan. She was unavailable emotionally, jaded, but actually, there's a reason for that. Jordan was betrayed by someone he thought he loved. That didn't bode well now that he wanted more with Maria.

Sometimes the things we thought we wanted the most aren’t the things that are right for us.

Both of them needed to work on themselves, their struggles, and their issues. I loved seeing their characters' developments. I feel so connected to M

let me preface this review, by stating that i, without a doubt, thoroughly enjoyed this book. the emotions that it provoked from me had my head spinning and the need to draw out this book more prominent.

maria, gah i can't recall the last time i wanted to so violently hit someone. she made me so incredibly mad at the beginning of the story, but i liked her by the end of it. i loved her attitude, she exuded confidence and demanded power, but she lacked manners and looked her nose down on

Recommends it for: ANYONE WHO LOVES ROMANCE!!

I was provided a copy of this book for my honest review!

I wanted to slap Maria so many times and high five her a lot too. I loved her in the end though (which side note, my Kindle died then!). Jordan is just hot. I don't want to say so much without giving too much away, but I will say this: I need to read Raquel and Sean's story soon! I need more A.L Woods' books in my life! Bravo!!

Veritas isn’t the type of book I would normally go for. I do like a good second chance romance but I have never been a huge fan of the single parent second chance kind of read. But I’m so glad I took a chance on this book. This extremely well written, slow burn romance has great characters, a ton of angst and a hell of a lot of steam.

Yes! Yes! Yes! This book is amazing! Ms. Woods is an incredible wordsmith with her tragically damaged and extremely real characters. Their intoxicating and passionate pursuit of each other is a stunning experience as they fight tooth and nail for control while slowly falling in love.

Maria Tavares is a woman you love to hate. Wicked smart, beautiful, and entitled. As the only woman in a corporate law firm, she has had to fight her way to the top and now she has been turned down for partner for th

He is the definition of a perfect man. Everything he saw, I could see. Everything he felt, I still feel. I went into this book blind, after having followed A.L. Woods on Instagram and seeing that there was ARC copies available of her book for review.

I’m so in love with this story. I love anything with a single dad, and a pining man, and of course, the STEAM. THE STEAMY SCENES IN HERE. Oh god, they were so detailed, I thought I was in t

Maria Tavares has worked incredibly hard to get to where she is in her life. She is all about her career as a lawyer. No distractions. Not from family and especially not from men. Her love life is just a one night stand situation. Except that one man in particular hasn’t forgotten about Maria.

Jordan Kovacs can get any woman he wants, after all he is a successful lawyer as well. He’s single. He’s handsome and incredibly charming. His charm, however, doesn’t work on every woman he’s met. Maria is

In the beginning, Maria is not a very sympathetic character. Rude and closed off. As the story continues and we get to know her and her background and we get a better understanding.her character growth was a long and painful battle for her. By the end of the story I loved her. I loved her ruthless strength, her self preservation and her intelligence. Jordan was just what she needed. He saw past her walls and pushed her to open up. He had his own demons and at times drew some ire. He was smart, a ...more

Having picked up Ms.Woods' work for the first time recently I've been wanting to read more of her books! As soon as this one was announced I couldn't wait to read it and knew i had to pick it up next! I enjoyed this story!

Maria and Jordan's journey had my attention quickly! I really liked how these two were brought together and how I wasn't sure how everything was going to play out. I really enjoyed the fact that i went through so many emotions throughout reading with these characters.

OMG this book was fanfreakingtastic!
Maria has worked her buns of to get to where she is, she’s all about her job as a lawyer she doesn’t have time for anything else.
Jordan is a successful lawyer with a great charm that works well on a lot of people, but Maria happens to be one of the ones it doesn’t affect and that intrigues him.
The connection that these two have is off the charts in this slow burn. They both have their own emotional stories that just suck you in with the push and pull dance t

Veritas was a mixed bag of emotion for me and those emotions centered mostly around Maria.

I didn't like Maria for the first quarter of the book. She's harsh, closed off, so deeply seated in her trust issues that I honestly didn't think she'd ever turn around for anyone, but...and this is a big but...I understood where she was coming from and this is why I continued to root for her. Why I continued to read and finish the book. There are redeeming qualities from her abrasive, cold demeanor and onc

"Veritas" is translated from Latin as "Truth". It is the basis of our legal system and the single most important aspect attorneys strive for... getting the truth out.
Veritas by A.L. Woods, is a slow build to inferno story of Maria and Jordan. Both are attorneys, though Maria has a much greater difficulty achieving success in the male dominated industry. She has built iron strong cages around herself to endure the challenges in her life. Maria is often perceived as "the Bitch" due to her closed

Maria was not a likeable character for at least the first third of the story, maybe longer. Although I ultimately liked her, it took a lot of change from her and even then, he’s not my favorite. I’m still disturbed by the way she treats Dougie at the end. She has a sad story that explains the way she’s walled herself off from the world. It does not, however, excuse her bad behavior and there’s a lot of it. She uses her lovers without any conce

Veritas is a complex, deep read that will make you think.

Maria Tavares is 34 and one of the best attorneys at her firm, yet her contributions are overlooked and she is passed over for partner repeatedly. Determined to try to figure out if she truly is the obstacle to her life moving forward, she decides to go to therapy. The decision has a domino effect, bringing her past, present and future together in a way she never planned.

I’ve not read a book by A.L. Woods before, so I was excited to check out Veritas, and I really enjoyed it! Enemies to lovers is my favorite romance trope, so this was a no-brainer for me; plus, it’s about two lawyers, and since that’s technically what I am (although my license is no longer active), how could I pass it up?

I will say, Veritas was long, clocking in at over 500 pages, but apparently that’s how she writes -- it’s almost more of a saga than just a story. Reminds me of the old Kathleen

This story was more than I thought it would be. It took some time to like Maria. She was a hardened female who didn't let anyone stare her down. I do like strong females but I think her treatment of others bothered me. She constantly looked down at others and that was not okay. But the more I read, the more I realised that her behaviour was a coping mechanism to protect herself. If she was always on the offensive, than no one could hurt her first. It made me feel sorry for her that she felt like ...more

Maria is not a woman meant for love, she doesn't do commitments or more than a few strings-free nights with a man, and she likes it that way. She doesn't want messy, complicated, time-consuming entanglements, she has seen where those can lead. And she is never going there...

Then she meets Jordan, a man that is built mentally quite like herself, a man that is driven, smart, focused on his work, and always goes after what he wants. And he wants Maria...

Honestly, this book went above and beyond my expectations. The characters, especially the lead fc surprised me for all the best reasons.

The writing in this book is not simple or easy to read, because the level of language used is more upscale. Though, that makes sense considering both lead characters are highly successful and educated lawyers. I feel like this book enhanced by vocabulary lol but overall, it is a smooth read and not hard to

This introspective romance was an interesting treat as the author was able to take the reader into the life of Maria's complicated journey to maturity and her final HEA. Full of graphic scenes, the storyline didn't gloss over the poor choices Maria deliberately made and the way her family's reaction damaged her to the core. I liked the way the author never apologized for the way Maria acted out her life or the way she was profoundly affected by her relationship with Dougie.

I'm not going to lie, I'm still so conflicted when it comes to my feelings on Maria. She's a very intelligent attorney who won't give in to distractions like relationships because she's trying to rise in the firm despite the fact that they keep passing her over not to mention some serious demons deep down. Instead of relationships, Maria does one night stands & makes no apologies, but her latest one was with Jordan. He's an attorney who works in her building, and like her, he has some issues wit ...more

Enemies-to-lovers romance

Maria and Jordan are both broken in very different ways and their outlooks on life are also very different. Jordan wants to believe in love while Maria doesn't think there is any such thing as love ... but the heart wants what the heart wants no matter what you believe. The storyline is great and I enjoyed the book even though I found some of the wording and phrases beyond the normal vocabulary. I did like that everything wasn't all sunshine and roses ... because real li

“You’re not afraid of commitment, Maria. You’re afraid of being left behind”

Amanda has done it again and has me been falling for her main male characters. Jordan Kovacs is perfect. A single dad who cares deeply for his daughter and who has taking a liking to Maria regardless of her flaws and attitude. Oh and lets not forget about his dominate side. 😏

The author delivers a slow burn romance that pushed all my buttons and tortured me in the best way. I can honestly say never have I disliked a female character so quickly and as much as I disliked Maria. I have read stories about serial killers with more empathy and understanding than her. Maria is cold and aloof she has what my mum would call a sharp tongue. When she meets Jordan she fights the connection that is obvious to the reader. There is palpable sexual tension every time they are togeth ...more

What an absolutely brilliant book! It is honest, insightful, has amazing characters with whom I could relate, is do very well written and totally captivates. I could not put it down. Told from both Maria and Jordan's point of view with a significant input from another character, the narrative reveals the hearts and minds of both. This is Maria and Jordan’s story. Maria is complex and emotionally detached due to her tough life, and as the only women in a law firm she is overlooked for promotions because of her attitude. Jordan is a single dad, ruthless attorney, and patient and caring. Maria is a force to be reckoned with on the outside. On the inside she's a broken teenage girl. Jordan is jaded from a cheating ex-wife, but he wants Maria. They're both strong, independent and want things their own way. I loved Maria. She was so complex and (partial spoiler) I loved that she took time out of life to press pause and look into herself to try to find what makes her happy. honestly, the book could have ended there and I would have been happy with that.
