Rate this book
Take up the quest in the hilariously epic second installment of the How to be a Hero series, from Cat Weldon, illustrated by Katie Kear.

Welcome to the Land of Lost Things. Unlikely hero Whetstone and trainee Valkyrie Lotta are on an quest to find Whetstone's long-lost father. But when Loki the trickster God sends his monstrous children after them, and Lotta loses her magic shield and along with it, her powers, things go from bad to worse.

Can Lotta and Whetstone survive a sea-serpent attack, a gigantic wolf who likes his tummy tickled and a very lonely queen of the dead, to keep the quest on track?

The second in this funny, fast-paced series about how to be a friend, what it means to be a hero and just how confusing the Norse Gods really are.

Whetstone and Lotta are continuing with their quest and in the second instalment we find Whetstone trying to find his long-lost father but that sounds much easier than anyone could ever imagine. Journeying through different lands, encountering new and intriguing enemies plus having to battle against his own insecurities Whetstone and Lotta bring more laughs and great story for the readers in this excellent addition to the series. The tiny markdown? A few little editing blips but still a great book.

This book is very intersting and unexpected I would rather read the first book before you read the second book the problem was their were to many Villans in the passage and also there were focusing on other things the main thing, the bad parts of the passage were only the boring, to many villains and focusing to much on other things then the main thing. The good side about this book was it was intresiting is some parts and there were more intresting parts and last thing is its fantasy was very good so I recamend this book to you!!

The previous book in this series (How to be a Hero) was a lot of fun, so I decided to continue the series with The Land of Lost Things.

It was very enjoyable to return the the viking universe, and go adventuring with viking Whetstone and valkyrie in training Lotta again. This was another excellent romp, and our heroes come up again some old enemies, and some new ones. This time, they visit Hel (both the place and the god). There are a good few humorous moments, and the plot is well paced.

The illustrations by Katie Kear were just as excellent as last time - they are lively and convey a real sense of what is happening in the story.

This book was a fun adventure, suitable for children and adults alike. I’m looking forward to the third book in the series.

I was given a free copy of this book, my opinions are my own.

Cat Weldon's sequel has a similar zany charm to its predecessor. Much of it seems like groundwork for the culmination of the series (e.g. Lotta's new powers). Some of the character motivation seems questionable to me, especially Glinting-Fire's reasoning for usurping Odin. But overall, it was an enjoyable story and I am looking forward to continuing with series.
