Nearly the entire first half of this book is comprised of two very long poems. Although there were many lovely phrases and interesting thoughts in these poems, they - especially the first - left me wondering, "Where is the plot?" And then, "This is the plot?"

The shorter poems that filled the rest of the book were lovely, and sometimes excellent. These poems were religious and addressed faith, doubt, love, death, and hope. In compromise between the first half and the second half, I give this volu

George MacDonald was a Scottish author, poet, and Christian minister.

Known particularly for his poignant fairy tales and fantasy novels, George MacDonald inspired many authors, such as G.K. Chesterton, W. H. Auden, J.R.R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and Madeleine L'Engle.
